GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 4 (R625) CLASS 5a – 1500M (A lc), SUNDAY, 11 JUNE 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2023

The Stewards, on 23 June 2023, reconvened an inquiry into App M Lukman’s riding of MIEJ in the above race. Evidence was taken from App M Lukman, the rider of MIEJ, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer WC Lim who is also the trainer of MIEJ.

After considering the evidence and viewing the performance of MIEJ, App M Lukman was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being:

  1. He allowed MIEJ to drift back in the field to a rearward position between the 1300M and the 1000M;

  2. Failed to attempt to improve his position, when clear to do so between the 1000M and at the turn into the straight;

  3. Restrained MIEJ with his left arm whilst feigning the use of the whip near the 300M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App M Lukman’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 24 June 2023 and to expire on 23 July 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 5 (R662) CLASS 4a – 1275M (II), SUNDAY, 18 JUNE 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2023

The Stewards, on 22 June 2023, inquired into the running and handling of TORNADO PEGASUS in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey Y Aify and Trainer NM Selvan, the rider and trainer of TORNADO PEGASUS respectively. Dr Hafiz of the SLTC Veterinary Clinic also tendered evidence.

After considering the evidence, Jockey Y Aify was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride the satisfaction of the Stewards in the manner he had ridden TORNADO PEGASUS (dead heat for first) in the straight, whereby he restrained the gelding on several occasions.

 After taking into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s mitigating factors, submissions on penalty and his poor riding record related to this charge, he was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months and fined RM20,000/-.

Jockey Y Aify subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and was granted a Stay of Sentence. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 9 (R666) CLASS 4a – 1075M (II), SUNDAY, 18 JUNE 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2023

After considering the evidence, App A Nazir was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in his riding of MR G in the straight which lacked purpose and strength.

After taking into consideration App A Nazir’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty, he was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 21 June 2023 and to expire on 20 July 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 8 (R629) CLASS 4a – 1100M (A sc), SUNDAY, 11 JUNE 2023, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2023

The Stewards, on 22 June 2023, concluded an inquiry into Jockey S Ruzaini’s riding of TORNADO PEGASUS in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey S Ruzaini and and Trainer NM Selvan, the rider and trainer of TORNADO PEGASUS respectively.

It was established that although instructed to be ridden in a forward position, TORNADO PEGASUS had tended to stumble on jumping and had been crowded at the first turn, subsequently losing its handy position. Although ridden along in the straight, TORNADO PEGASUS had failed to make any ground and had indeed lost ground finishing ninth.

As such, the Stewards did not consider they could substantiate a charge in terms of the Rules, but Jockey S Ruzaini was warned that he must place and ride every horse so as to be fully tested.
