PENANG DECEMBER MEETING 2022  

 1^ST DAY, SUNDAY, 18^TH DECEMBER 2022

INQUIRY CONCERNING URINE SAMPLE CODED “J-6431” WHICH WAS TAKEN FROM JOCKEY S ZULFIKRI ON 12^th NOVEMBER 2022 AT THE PENANG TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2022 RETURNING POSITIVE TO “MITRAGYNINE” WHICH IS A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE IN TERMS OF THE MRA RULES

The Stewards concluded the Inquiry into the above matter on Sunday, 18^th December 2022 at the Penang Turf Club.  Evidence were taken from Jockey S Zulfikri and Dr. Chan Sue Hay, Chief Analyst of USains Biomics Laboratory.

Jockey S Zulfikri pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded “J-6431”, submitted by him on 12^th November 2022 at the Penang Turf Club November Meeting 2022, upon analysis, revealed the presence of “Mitragynine”, which is a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey S Zulfikri’s guilty plea and his                       clean record.  Jockey S Zulfikri was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6)  months backdated to Monday, 28^th November 2022 on which is the date when he was stood down from riding and to expire on Saturday, 27^th May 2023, both days inclusive.  He was informed of his Right of Appeal (12.40 pm).

Jockey S Zulfikri was informed that he would be required to provide a clear urine sample for analysis before resuming riding trackwork/barrier trials and tests.
