World Class CSI Jump-off at STC Annual Horse Show
It was a fun-filled day coupled with charity and serious competition at the Selangor Turf Club Equestrian Centre on Sunday, 2 October 2022, which was also the final day of the 3 days of Annual Horse Show.
The highlight of the show were the world class Concours de Saut International (CSI) Show Jumping competition held in partnership with Sime Darby Auto Bavaria. The event saw the participation of 20 riders from nine Equestrian Clubs/Centers competing in two different heights of jump-off at 110cm and 130cm. The CSI classes are approved by the international governing body of equestrian sports, Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and are held under international FEI rules.
Daniel Chen Soon Cheong riding Gaudi Van Ter Cauwerburg from 3Q Equestrian emerged as the Champion for the jump-off 130cm, meanwhile Abdul Hariz Abdul Majid riding Qui A Vu De La Lande from Estika Equestrian and Sharizal Mohamed riding One Special Van De Vsd Stable representing DBKL secured the second and third placing.
In the jump-off 110cm Arysha Haya Kanda astride Intermetzo from Bukit Kiara captured the first placing followed by Pierre Delort riding Ceigneur Du Gue from STC and Jumaat Rasing riding Mayang Sari from DBKL took the second and third spot respectively. These events provided Malaysia young athletes with an opportunity to participate in a world class event locally.
The Show also showcased a “Ride & Drive” charity fun event whereby a rider completes a show jumping course on a horse and jumps into a waiting BMW X5 with his partner ready to drive and complete the other course set for the car. The fastest team to complete both the courses would emerge as the winner. This event successfully raised RM20,000 to set-up a Riding for the Disabled (RDA) centre at the Selangor Turf Club.
Riding for the Disabled (Malaysia) Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization where horses bring therapeutic benefits to children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. Among the individuals who participated in the “Ride & Drive” event are YAM Dato’ Paduka Tengku Shaharin Abu Bakar, General Manager of Olympic Council of Malaysia, Mr Fong Wan Hor, Executive Secretary of Equestrian Association of Malaysia, Dato’ Major ® Yap Mou Soon, Deputy Chairman of Selangor Turf Club, Mr Clement Chew and Committee Member of Selangor Turf Club, Mr Rodney Cheah.
Besides the above, over the three days, the show also featured novelty classes such as Mitavite Six Bar Competition, Dressage Free Style to Music, Ex-racehorse Combination Classes and a Charity Gymkhana for special children. The Annual Horse Show is sanctioned by Equestrian Association of Malaysia (EAM) and sponsored by Totalisator Board of Malaysia, Optimax Eye Specialist, Sungei Besi Autoworld, Boo Pet Groomers, Marine Treasure, Mitavite Asia, ENA, Urban Retreat Spa, Inglab and Equestrian Support Services.
“We are happy to include the prestigious CSI Show Jumping event at our Annual Horse Show. Over the three days, the show has attracted 106 riders and 82 horses from 18 different riding clubs. We are delighted to host a competition where riders can come together, compete and showcase their riding skills. We are also glad to play a part in raising the awareness of equestrian sports and riding for the disabled in the country”, said Deputy Chairman of Selangor Turf Club, Mr Clement Chew Kuan Hock.
