USHER IN THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE AT SLTC
With the Spring Festival and the birth of Lunar New Year fast approaching, the Selangor Turf Club welcomes racing fans to come together in ushering in the Year of The Snake at the Selangor Turf Club.
The Selangor Turf Club’s race meeting in the Year of The Snake will begin on Friday, January 31, 2025, which marks the third day of Lunar New Year. Patrons visiting the Sungei Besi Racecourse will be welcomed by the display of red lanterns and decorations to mark the Chinese community tradition, signifying auspiciousness and prosperity.
Among the events that have been arranged by the Club on January 31st are Welcome Greetings by Lion Dance, Giveaway of Mandarin Oranges and SLTC Bonanza Contest offering prizes and cash vouchers. In conjunction with the celebration, races on the day will be named after Chinese auspicious names.
On the racing front, racing fans will witness the running of Chinese New Year Prosperity Trophy and Japan Racing Association Trophy.
The Chinese New Year Prosperity Trophy is the first Black Type race to be hosted by the Club in the series of 15 races scheduled in the year 2025 offering a total prize money of RM3.650 million. The Chinese New Year Prosperity Trophy offers stakes of RM100,000 and will run a distance of 1600m. The race is open to horses in Class Supreme A.
Meanwhile, the Japan Racing Association Trophy is a reciprocal race between the Malayan Racing Association (MRA) and Japan Racing Association. The trophy race is held every year in rotation between the three Malaysia turf clubs. The race is hosted by the Selangor Turf Club this year and the President and CEO of Japan Racing Association, Mr Masayoshi Yoshida will present the prizes to the winning connections after the running of the race.
The second black type race, the Wilayah Silver Bowl, offering stakes money of RM100,000 is scheduled to be held on Sunday, 2nd February 2025. The race will be run over a distance of 1200 meters and runners are restricted to five-year-olds.
