The Shamexpress gelding came over from New Zealand after notching two wins and two placings at three and four and was an immediate hit, leading all the way in a Class 4 – 1020m sprint on the No 2 track last month and was swiftly promoted a class.

The feature race was one of four races originally scheduled to be run on the No. 2 track but switched to the main track because of a downpour.

The five-year-old was out of the stalls in a flash and immediately went to the front. He then led his rivals on a merry chase to win by one and three quarters lengths.

PACIFIC FLASH came from a long way back early to finish strongly on the rails for second place ahead of PACIFIC EMPIRE.

“The horse (TOM’S LIGHTNiNG) has good speed and he loves the wet track,” said jockey Lim Shung Uai. “He was always going to win.”

“He’s (TOM’S LIGHTNING) a nice and easy horse to train,” said Charles Leck. “He’s got good temperament and always delivers what we expected of him.”

“He’s a horse with a lot speed and will go on winning more sprint races.”
