SELANGOR RACE PREVIEW FEB 23
Two divisions of the 1200m Supreme A will highlight another marathon card of twelve races at Selangor Turf Club this Sunday commencing at 12.15pm.
Division One (Race 7) is an interesting contest where a couple of the principal chances have drawn wide.

KING ARTHUR (2) (Br 12) and SHIRVO (3) (Br 13) are both coming off impressive performances and are the likely market leaders in what looks to be a high quality event.
Even though sectional times are not recorded officially, there’s no doubt former Macau galloper SHIRVO (3) would have reeled off one of the quickest final 400m sections when finishing runner up in the Listed Wilyah Silver Bowl three weeks ago. It was stunning local debut delivered by the 5yo and if he can emulate that performance with 2.5kg less to carry, if might prove hard to beat despite the wide barrier.
KING ARTHUR (2) was entitled to win at his second run in the country in an 1100m Metro A contest on the same day. The 7yo was first up for two months when he sat off a hot pace from pole position before charging late to defeat Super Salute by 1.25L. The gelding may require some luck this time around as he is only a moderate beginner but he does possess the class as displayed against the high graders when based in Singapore.
PACIFIC PADRINO (8) stepped up to the mile for the first time when taking out the Listed Chinese New Year Prosperity Trophy on January 31. From the good draw (Br 3) and to carry the same weight, he looks the best of the lightweight chances.
RENZO (9) trialed well earlier this month and is a four time winner over the trip. AWESOME STORM (1) has been the highest rated galloper in Malaysia for the past two seasons and can never be underestimated when produced first up while THE MAREEBA MANGO (4) has had his share of issues in an interrupted career and will be first up for nine months.
Race 7 Selections: (3) SHIRVO (2) KING ARTHUR (8) PACIFIC PADRINO (9) RENZO

Division Two (Race 8) is another cracking contest as WITNESSIMPACT (3) will be seeking immediate atonement following his defeat in the Listed Wilyah Silver Bowl. Usually a leader, the gelding races best when allowed to dictate the pace which he was prevented from doing in the Bowl when PACIFIC VAMPIRE (2) applied the early pressure before eventually working to the lead. Both horses weakened noticeably in the closing stages after a fast speed was set throughout. Dropping 3kg and 3.5kg respectively, both horses have the ability to redeem themselves and recapture their best form on Sunday.
SUPER SALUTE (1) deserves a win also and is still a chance despite the 59kg impost. The 6yo led and was pressured all the way in the race won by King Arthur and although he is a fast beginner, he may elect to take a trail in a race where there appears to be an abundance of early speed.
GOOD FIGHT (4) has recaptured his best form in recent months and the versatile 7yo will be rolling forward from the start. KONG FU PANDA (5) hasn’t started since finishing 3rd in the G1 Penang Sprint Trophy in July last year and the G1 Perak Gold Vase winner does boast an excellent first up record. Stablemate SUPER HAPPY (8) also goes well when resuming and the Vase place getter from last season should be competitive at this level. The horse to watch at value odds is BIG UNION (7) for trainer Jerome Tan. The 4yo should win his share of races in Malaysia coming off a good Singapore record of 5 wins from 11 starts and will be first up since finding the 2000m a fraction too far in the Singapore Gold Cup last October.
Race 8 Selections: (3) WITNESSIMPACT (1) SUPER SALUTE (2) PACIFIC VAMPIRE (4) GOOD FIGHT
