19 January, Kuala Lumpur

When Red Dragonfly first moved to Malaysia being a maiden after 20 starts in Singapore, I’m sure no one was under the impression he would come out to win twice in a row let alone FIVE! He continued his hot run since relocating to Malaysia and despite stepping up in class, he was able to fend off any sort of challengers and ended up going start to finish up in front. He is unbeaten in Malaysia and the way in which he won today, it seems like there’s still more to come. Whenever there is a challenge from the opposition he really seems to dig deep and show plenty of heart. He was ridden by CK Khaw for the Ooi stable.

Big Bad Mama

Another runner who simply does not know how to lose at the moment is Big Bad Mama from the N Selvan stable who took out the penultimate race on the program on track two over 1020m. Heading into this race she was four from four over this course and distance and despite the concerns of stepping up in class, she ran the field into the ground by going start to finish in front under KC Low with the advantage of the bottom weight and is now unbeaten from five starts over this track and trip. She was narrowly outside the track record as well with a winning time of 58,58 seconds.

Good Fight

The day got off to a rocky start with a few runners upsetting in the beginning of the card with all of Stretchy Four; Jing Jin; Grand Avante and Diaz winning at odds of over RM30. But the day steadied out during the middle and end of the race meeting with favourable results turning the tides for some punters. For the training ranks, N Selvan celebrated a double for the day with Diaz  and Big Bad Mama in the winners box as well as Richard Lines who joined issue with both of Jing Jin and Thunder Star bringing up a double for the yard as well.

S Dunderdale was the third trainer to have a double for the day with both of Good Fight and Ong Mari winning in successive races with Ong Mari flashing from nowhere to beat Duma who looked like a winner until the final 5 metres of the race. From the jockeys, only one celebrated a double and that was the young WW Cheah who won aboard Diaz and Thunder Star.

Racing returns next week Sunday on the 26th of January at the Selangor Turf Club and it should be another bumper race meeting to look forward to.
