Proof Perfect eyeing Sprint Trophy glory
KUALA LUMPUR: Jul 16, 2023
It’s a perfect two-from-two for PROOF PERFECT in Malaysia after an impressive win in the Metro A set-weight event over 1100m at Sungei Besi here today.
Today’s success came on the heels of his upset win over THE MAREEBA MANGO in a Class 3 – 1075m on the No. 2 track here last month.
Ridden once again by Mohamad Firdaus, the Star Witness gelding settled nicely behind the pace set by the two favourites FA FA STAR and GAMESTONKS.
GAMESTONKS led early but FA FA STAR took over the running and led into the straight. GAMESTONKS, who started odds-on, collared FA FA STAR at the 300m with PROOF PERFECT poised to strike.
PROOF PERFECT collared GAMESTONKS at the 200m with FA FA STAR beaten at this stage.
PROOF PERFECT surged ahead with ease at the 100m and went on to win one and a quarter lengths. VULCAN flashed home to beat GAMESTONKS for second.
“I was surprised at how well he performed today,” Firdaus. “He ran better than on the No. 2 track the last time.”
“He jumped well and I just followed the pace which was rather fast. He responded well when I asked him for an effort in the straight.”
“I am extremely pleased with the win,” said trainer Stephen Cook. “I was worried about GAMESTONKS.”
“The owners have decided to give him a chance at Group 1 glory in the Sprint Trophy (on July 30).”
PROOF PERFECT raced for three seasons in Australia, winning three races and was placed three times in nine starts.
He picked up three more wins in Class 4 in Singapore from 2020 to last year. At eight, he is showing that there is plenty of racing left in him.
