Pasir Pinji (NZ) (Nadeem), a graduate of the 2018 sale, produced an irresistible finish from well off the pace to win Sunday’s RM150,000 Selangor Gold Cup (1600m) in Malaysia.
Bought for just $6000 from Book 3 of Karaka 2018, Pasir Pinji returned for the Ready to Run Sale later that year and was bought by Singapore-based Kiwi trainer Donna Logan for $34,000.
From a 29-start career, Pasir Pinji has now recorded 10 wins and five placings, earning a total of over 290,000 Malaysian ringgit – the equivalent of around NZ$105,000.
Pasir Pinji’s first black-type victory in Sunday’s Selangor Gold Cup came courtesy of a spectacular performance. Ridden by Brazilian jockey Bernardo Pinheiro, he settled in fifth-last before coming with giant strides down the outside of the track to score impressively.
Now a winner of all of his last five races in a row, Pasir Pinji is trained by Simon Dunderdale for owner Yee Kin Kong.
Pasir Pinji’s win is just the latest in a long list of recent black-type successes for Ready to Run Sale graduates, headed by the likes of last season’s Group One superstars Golden Sixty (Medaglia d’Oro), Lucky Sweynesse (NZ) (Sweynesse), Sharp ‘N’ Smart (NZ) (Redwood) and Dunkel (NZ) (Dundeel).
The 2023 edition of the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale will be staged at Karaka on 22 and 23 November, with Breeze Ups to be held at Te Rapa Racecourse on 16 and 17 October.
