STEWARDS’ REPORT – WEDNESDAY, 8 FEBRUARY 2023

INQUIRY INTO URINE SAMPLE CODED “J-4341” TAKEN ON SATURDAY, 31 DECEMBER 2022 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB, WHICH WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN “MITRAGYNINE”  – A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE IN TERMS OF MRA RULES

On Wednesday, 8 February 2023, the Stewards continued an inquiry, into the Analyst’s Report dated 6 January 2023 (V22/203) that Sample Coded “J-4341” taken on 31 December 2022 at the Selangor Turf Club December, was found to contain mitragynine.

Further evidence was taken from Jockey S Uzair, from whom the sample was taken.

Dr Chan Sue Hay, Chief Analyst of USAIN BIOMICS tendered a report that upon analysis, no prohibited substances were detected in either of the two (2) herbal supplements as supplied by jockey S Uzair at the initial inquiry on 13 January 2023.

Jockey S Uzair was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) with having supplied a urine a sample at the Selangor Turf Club on 31 December 2022 which upon analysis, was found to contain the prohibited substance, mitragynine.

In considering a penalty, the Stewards took into account; that jockey S Uzair had been suspended from riding in races for a period of 3 months in February 2022 for a breach of the same rule related to the same substance and also personal aspects as put forward by him.

Jockey S Uzair was disqualified for a period of twelve (12) months to expire on 7^th February 2024. This penalty is cumulative on any other penalty being served.

He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
