Cheval Rapide gets back to speedy way
KUALA LUMPUR: Feb 25, 2023
After winning six races in four seasons in Singapore, CHEVAL RAPIDE got his campaign in Malaysia off to the great start when he won three of his first starts in the country last year.
His winning run, however, came to a disappointing halt when pitted against some of the best in a Supreme A event last November when he finished down the field.
CHEVAL RAPIDE finished on board in three subsequent runs but the winning spark was missing.
In all of his last four runs, the Irish entire had been kept well well off the pace in the running. A change was called for and it brought the desired results.
There was a tussle for the early lead in today’s Metro A race over 1400m involving other horses. But apprentice Tuan Ammar, riding CHEVAL RAPIDE for the first time, managed to send him to the front as the field settled down. The pair was never caught after that, winning handsomely by 1 3/4 lengths.
“Strong win for CHEVAL RAPIDE running 1min 22.97secs on a yielding track,” declared trainer Simon Dunderdale.
“We changed the tactics and decided to lead. Well done to apprentice Ammar for a great ride especially since he cannot use the whip yet.”
CHEVAL RAPIDE raced for two seasons as CALLENDER, winning twice and was placed twice in nine starts.
The son of Exceed And Excel won five races when racing as YULONG FAST STEED in Singapore and picked up one more win after changing to his current name.
