ANTIPODEAN TO BOUNCE BACK
Kuala Lumpur, 6 September
The Selangor Turf Club hosts a fantastic day of racing on Sunday the 8th of September with the main event, The Hygain Horse City Selangor Gold Cup, taking centre stage as thirteen runners will battle it out for the second leg of the Triple Crown Series. Overall, there are eleven races on the program with the two undercard races including, the Horse City Trophy as well as the UPBH Platinum Trophy.
The Hygain Horse City Selangor Gold Cup is Race 9 on the card and will be contested over 1600m in a really competitive field. The unbeaten run for ANTIPODEAN unfortunately had to be stopped in his last start when he finished second behind Gamestonks over 1300m in what was his toughest race to date. He was unlucky in the race when Gamestonks had set a good pace up in front while Antipodean had to settle five lengths back when turning for home. With horses in front of him fading back, he had to be switched out at the top of the straight to be allowed a clear run but ran on too late. However, this does suggest that the step up to 1600m should not be a problem for him and a chance is taken on him to bounce back to his best here for the S DUNDERDALE stable.
His biggest danger is the WC LIM trained GOLDEN PEGASUS who is already a six time winner from just fourteen starts. He is unbeaten over this distance and the rate at which he is improving will certainly keep Antipodean honest. It should make for a great showdown between the two that look to be the upcoming stars of racing in Malaysia.
The first of the ‘special races’ is in Race 5, the Horse City Trophy to be contested over 1200m. REVOLUTION, trained by S DUNDERDALE, has only had the four starts in Malaysia but he has already won two, including a class 3 event back on the 23rd of June. He was only beaten by a head in his last start when he took the trip up to Penang for the Memorial Trophy and in that race, he finished ahead of Gamestonks who came out to beat Antipodean a few weeks ago. With form like that coming into this race, it should be no surprise to see Revolution at the top of the betting boards. His biggest dangers could be the stable companion HIGH WATER as well as PACIFIC RIVER from the KC TIANG stable.
The second of the undercard races is Race 7, the UPBH Platinum Trophy over 1400m. FLAMING PHOENIX could play a strong role here and could provide a bit of value. He’s a three time winner over this distance and has won three of his last five starts. S RUZAINI retains the ride and he should be one of the main contenders. The favourite will most likely be GULF EAGLE from the R LINES stable. He was an impressive winner in his last start in a Class 4B over 1250m . He meets a slightly stronger field here and it shouldn’t be easy after receiving his 4-point penalty for that win. However, he has won two of his four career starts and there should be plenty of scope for more improvement to come.
The first race is off at 12:35 local time and will conclude with Race 11 at 17:55.
