ANTIPODEAN REIGNS SUPREME
14 October 2024, Kuala Lumpur
Eighteen races took place over the course of the weekend at the Selangor Turf Club with mixed results for punters on Saturday, but a big turnaround on Sunday. Despite the mixed results on Saturday there were still a few noteworthy achievements and highlights including the in-form apprentice, I FIKRI, who rode a treble aboard all of THE STAR; TAVI WILL DO and BUURAQ SIXTY-ONE in the first four races of the afternoon and now takes his in tally to 28 for the season – equalling his total wins from last year.
GULF EAGLE continued his hot form despite stepping up in class. He came in with bottom weight and showed no signs of stopping with his quick turn of foot. Despite being lightly raced as a five-year-old, he’s showing big improvement with every run and has now taken his win tally up to four wins from six starts with his margin of victories increasing as he keeps rising in class.
Sunday’s race meeting was profitable for the favourite backers when all of YES MAN; WITNESSIMPACT; INFINITY WARRIOR and ANTIPODEAN confirmed their position at the top of the betting boards while making it a quadruple for trainer Simon Dunderdale who, a few weeks ago, celebrated a career best of five winners on a raceday.
A star-studded field lined up for the 2024 Sports Toto Supreme Challenge Cup and what a race it turned out to be. The rivalry between Antipodean and Golden Pegasus has now been put to bed with a victory that left spectators on the edge of their seats when Antipodean came from a hopeless position to win the RM100000 G3.
The Simon Dunderdale runner had no luck in running from a bad draw ,once again, and had to race wide for the majority of the race. Berry Bliss arguably had the run of the race tracking the leader, Violet, until the top of the straight and had no excuses despite a cheeky effort in second. However, while Berry Bliss was enjoying his smooth run, Antipodean started his move around runners at the 600m switching straight to the outside. He wasn’t even in the picture until the final 200m when all of a sudden R Shafiq aboard the now nine time winner, came swooping past Berry Bliss to take home the honours.
Berry Bliss held on to second while Cheval Blanc bounced back to form running on to finish in third. Golden Pegasus could only manage to complete the quartets in fourth. Antipodean certainly has the qualities of being the best horse in Malaysia and is without a doubt a fan favourite amongst the racing fraternity.
Racing takes a break from Selangor for two weeks where we’ll back for a double header of racing on the 26th & 27th of October.
