Streets Of Fire too hot to handle
KUALA LUMPUR: Apr 16, 2023
With six wins since joining the stable in 2020, it’s not surprising that STREETS OF FIRE has become a favourite of trainer Tiang Kim Choi.
“Tiang’s wife has a special fondness for the mare,” revealed apprentice Nuqman Faris Rozi after he had piloted the mare to victory in the Supreme B event over 1400m at Sungei Besi here today.
Nuqman has ridden STREETS OF FIRE in a few trials recently but it was the first time he partnered the seven-year-old in a race.
A confident Nuqman settled the mare in fourth spot with CHEVAL RAPIDE crossing over from a wide barrier to set a brisk pace. Nuqman eased STREETS OF FIRE from just off the rails at the top of the straight.
CHEVAL RAPDIE soon came under pressure. The favourite SAN ANDREAS quickly made his bid on his outside and SINCERELY took the inside run on the rails. STREETS OF FIRE soon joined them to make it four across the track approaching the 200m.
But it was STREETS OF FIRE who hit the front with ease shortly after to win as she liked by two lengths.
“She (Tiang’s wife) hoped I could win this race for her and I am very happy for being able to do that today,” said Nuqman who had a treble for the day. “She ran very well for me today.”
Nuqman had bagged the opening race on COSMIC SANDS and followed up two races later to score on ELITE SAINT.
“She (STREETS OF FIRE) is a very good mare,” said Tiang. “She has a good temperament and knows when she is participating in a race. That’s when she displays her strong fighting spirit. She is special and I hope I can win many more races with her.”
STREETS OF FIRE finished down the field in two runs in Singapore but quickly proved her worth with three consecutive placings and a win in her first four runs in Malaysia for trainer Lim Shung You.
Despite the success, she was sold and transferred to Tiang and has rarely run a bad race for the trainer.
