Good Fight floors rivals in comeback
KUALA LUMPUR: January 19, 2025
Good Fight proved no match for his rivals when he cruised to an easy win in the Supreme B event over 1400m at Sungai Besi today.
It was the first win for the Super One gelding in 14 months and truly deserved by the Australian gelding who has performed consistently in the last year.
Good Fight ended the 2023 season in a blaze of glory, bagging a hattrick which included the Coronation Cup (1600m) and Charity Cup (1400m) in Ipoh.
Last year, he finished third (to Antipodean) in the Selangor Gold Cup, second (to Mega Gems) in the Coronation Cup and was last-start second (to Lucky Magic) in the Penang Gold Cup (2000m) on Dec 29.
Reverting to a much shorter distance today, Good Fight again showed his customary dash by hitting the front shortly after the start.
Under Tuan Ammar who has won on him twice before, Good Fight kept up a relentless gallop, pulling away just when Dragon Claw and Mega Gems seemed to be getting to him at the 300m.
Good Fight won by 3-1/2 lengths, with the two Macau imports Mega Gems and Dragon Claw fighting for second place.
“He (Good Fight) was always relaxed when in the lead,” said Ammar. “In the straight, he gave me plenty.”
“Good Fight is an ultra consistent horse. He rarely runs a bad race,” said trainer Simon Dunderdale.
“It was very nice front running ride from Ammar.”
Good Fight landed in Malaysia unraced and has now won 11 races in 44 starts.
