HAT-TRICK FOR LECK
13 January, Kuala Lumpur
Clyde Leck is riding at the top of his game after a hat-trick of wins on Sunday’s meeting throughout the 11 race program, which saw some exciting finishes and a changing of the guard as Antipodean was beaten by Witnessimpact in a quality Supreme A field.
Leck opened up his wins aboard From The Navy from the J Leck stable in race 3. From The Navy continued his good run of form making it two wins from his last three starts and defying the step up in class. There was an objection laid against the winner from the connections of the fourth placed horse against From The Navy but the objection was overruled and the result stood.
Leck’s next win came in race 7 this time for trainer Charles Leck in the form of Bintang Sixty-One in a competitive class 3 event. He had a wide draw to overcome but managed to get his ride into a one out position in second heading into the turn and had the run of the race afterwards. Nonetheless, it was a hard fought win as there were late challengers that were flying home late. Leck ended off the day with Naughty Kid, completing a J Leck double on the day. Despite being drawn in barrier 7, he was able to place his ride along the rail and settled back on the heels of the leading quartet and no more than three lengths off the leader. At the top of the straight he managed to find a gap between Zilfikar and Hunter Pegasus and once again, was able to fight off the late challengers in a blanket finish with 1/2 length separating the first four runners.
The big talking point for the day was Witnessimpact taking down the colours of Antipodean in race 8 in a rather comfortable manner. PH Seow went start to finish in front with the S Dunderdale runner and never looked back after a 2 1/2 length victory. Both runners coming off a break and coming into the race fresh, one could see the impeccable condition Witnessimpact was in when he trotted up to win his trial earlier in the week and brought that win to raceday. Super Salute ran an impressive third in what was his local debut run after 239 days since his last run, and should be one to keep an eye on for his next few starts.
All of S Dunderdale; R Lines and J Leck celebrated doubles on the day and for the jockeys L De Souza celebrated a double and Clyde Leck with a treble. Racing returns next week Sunday on the 19th of January at the Selangor Turf Club.
