Magic Player

Brazilian jockey Andre Luiz Da Silva, who boosts a 100 percent “in the money” record when he rode briefly in Kuala Lumpur three months ago, is back to wow racegoers.

The three-time champion jockey in Brazil has been granted a one-year licence by the Selangor Turf Club and will make his comeback this weekend.

Da Silva won a lot of fans when he scored thrice – first-up on Magic Player on Jul 13 and a double on Karisto and Thousand Mile Eye on Jul 21 – along with three second-place and four third-place finishes in 10 rides.

Da Silva has picked up five rides – Roti Kaya, Nimbus Flare, Good Man, Good Fight and Flaming Phoenix – this Saturday.

His sole engagement on Sunday is astride the unraced three-year-old Lightning General in the RM80,000 TBC Gamefi Club Trophy, a 3YO Novice race over 1300m, for trainer Cheng Han Yong.

Former Singapore-based jockey Ruan Maia introduced Da Silva to Cheng who sought Da Silva’s services to ride Graphjet Express in the RM100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock 3YO Trophy last July.

The combination just came up short in the 1400m race when Graphjet Express finished second to then unbeaten Antipodean.

Da Silva has also ridden successfully in Mauritius and Macau. He also won the championship at the People’s Turf Club in Mauritius and has some 840 wins to his name.
