KUALA LUMPUR:  Aug 24, 2024

ANTIPODEAN’s unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of the seasoned campaigner GAMESTONKS in the Supreme A stakes over 1300m at Sungai Besi here today.
The set weight event was eagerly anticipated as it brought together some of the top names in local racing, including CIRCUIT MISSION (Penang Sprint Trophy), CHEVAL BLANC (Penang Gold Cup and Tunku Gold Cup) and PASIR PINJI (Selangor Gold Cup).

ANTIPODEAN came into this race on the back to seven unbeaten runs and, despite being his first big test against the established starts, started favourite at RM8.
But it was GAMESTONKS, who twice this year fell short in the Tunku Gold Cup and Perak Gold Vase, who outdid them all.
The Showcasing gelding surged to the front after a brief tussle for the early lead and broke away. He was always two to three lengths in front until ANTIPODEAN came charging home in the final 100m.
But GAMESTONKS had enough to spare, winning by half a lengths for his 10th success in 18 starts in the country. He paid RM26.
The gelding had raced 13 times from two to four years in New Zealand for a win and three placings.
He was unbeaten in his four starts in the country in 2022 and also managed a hattrick last year.
“His (GAMESTONKS) previous start in Penang was a little disappointing,” said trainer Joseph Leck who was referring to the gelding’s fifth placing to QUICKEN AWAY over 1300m on July 28.
“I freshened him up and gave him two lead-up trials. Going into this race I was quietly confident he would run well as he is the highest rated horse in the race.
“Clyde (Leck) rode him to a tee and was able to hold on for the win.”
“He was not 100% in his previous run so I knew he would definitely improve after that,” said Clyde.
“He was primed for this race and showed how well he could run. Thankful for the ride and happy for the win.”
