Sunday, 11th August

Despite the showers and thunderstorms in the morning, it turned out to be a fantastic day of racing at the Selangor Turf Club with all 9 races being run including SAFAR 247 Asia Pacific Sprint Trophy; SAFAR 247 Asia Pacific Cup and the KRA Trophy

Gulf Eagle

GULF EAGLE from the R Lines stable claimed the SAFAR 247 Asia Pacific Sprint Trophy contested over 1250m under CK Khaw. He was the joint leader alongside Pacific Hunter for most of the race and at the top of the straight, it looked to be a two horse race as they locked horns and fought it out to the wire. There was a late challenge from Rhythm Of Zen but it was too late as Gulf Eagle had rewarded the punters who backed him into favouritism

Wecando

Race 6 saw the running of the Korea Racing Authority (KRA) Trophy over 1250m. Military Flag and Trigger Pegasus had attracted all of the betting support but it was the F Maynard trained, WECANDO who quickened up from well off the pace to beat Military Flag. There was plenty of pace on with Golden Sardine and Tribute who dictated the fractions in front and allowed Wecando a smooth run in transit when he settled back 8 lengths in running midway through the turn. SU Lim slowly started to get to work aboard the 10 year old gelding and when the gap opened up down the inside rail, there was no turning back for Wecando who won by 2 1/2 lengths.

Arthur Pegasus

The last of the feature races was run over 1800m in the penultimate race of the afternoon and it was ARTHUR PEGASUS for trainer NM Selvan who would take home the spoils in the SAFAR 247 Asia Pacific Cup. A Azizi decided to push forward with Arthur Pegasus to keep up with the pace and eventually conceded his position to allow Rs Parker to take over the lead turning for home which allowed him something to aim at down the straight. He held off the late challenge from Show Hand who was doing his best work at the finish as well as Wiseman who ended up placing in third despite hanging in.

All of A AZIZI; SU LIM and S RUZAINI had a double on the day whereas every race was won by a different trainer to end a great weekend of racing in Sungai Besi
