STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2024

SATURDAY, 18 MAY 2024

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stewards:

2 Members of the Panel selected by the Committee

4

7

FARDUS

(App H Haikal)

Bumped and squeezed out at the start. Vet inspection: No significant finding.

Jockey J Daniel (ICHIKA BACHIKA) appeared before the Panel and was questioned separately regarding his riding instructions. In this regard, he advised that his instructions were to ride this horse in order to obtain a handy position from the jump.

Trainer S Dunderdale appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his instructions on ICHIKA BACHIKA. In this regard, he explained that his instructions to Jockey J Daniel were that this horse has a history of jumping moderately, therefore he was instructed to ride this horse in a manner that afforded it an opportunity to obtain a forward position. The Stewards drew Trainer S Dunderdale’s attention to the lack of similar intent in this gelding’s recent runs. Trainer S Dunderdale explained that today, the better track and a better rider were, in his opinion, a contributory factor to ICHIKA BACHIKA racing in a position that it did in the race.

The Panel noted the explanation of Trainer S Dunderdale, however, was of the view that as similar intent from the jump could not be established from the riding of this gelding in its last 4 runs, the instructions today were tantamount to a change of tactics. Consequently, Trainer S Dunderdale was found guilty of a contravention of MRA Rule 35(8) and a penalty of RM1000/- was imposed.

Vet inspection: Lame off fore – 1000M/Vet (2 weeks embargo)

Jockey J Daniel (SESON) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding instructions. In this regard, he explained that his instructions were to sit in a handy position, however, after jumping as well as he did, he did not want to risk being caught wide and instead elected to commit his horse to a forward position which resulted in an unanticipated lead.

Trainer R Lines (SESON) appeared before the Panel separately and was questioned regarding his instructions on SESON. In this regard, he explained that he had instructed Jockey J Daniel to obtain a forward position and he had not specifically instructed him to lead, however, after jumping, he found it acceptable that Jockey J Daniel continued to commit SESON forward as failing to do so, would have resulted in him being trapped wide. The Stewards noted the explanation of Trainer R Lines.
