At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of BLEU MARINE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to take reasonable steps and caused interference to NAJWAN (J De Souza) approximately at the 1300M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey AM Aizat’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 13 November 2023 and to expire on 19 November 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:45pm).

Jockey J Low (CAPONE) appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his riding on CAPONE. In this regard, his attention was specifically drawn to the fact that after jumping well and obtaining the position behind the leader, he allowed his mount to drift back and WECANDO (SU Lim) to take his position in the running.

Jockey J Low explained to the Board that it was his instructions to ride this horse midfield therefore, he did not want to overly pressure this gelding to hold the position behind the leader as it would have been contrary to his instructions. Accordingly, he attempted to settle his mount, finding a position where it was comfortable and allowed it an opportunity to settle and run on in the straight. However, he further explained that despite travelling well in the running, this horse had nothing to come in the straight and faded tamely. The Board noted the explanation of Jockey J Low. Additionally, the Board interviewed Trainer HY Cheng who confirmed the statements of Jockey J Low in so far as they related to him.

Jockey S Ruzaini reviewed the footage of the race pertaining to the incidents involving CHEVAL BLANC and MALAYSIA CAPTAIN. This was followed by an objection being lodged by the Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of the second placed horse (MALAYSIA CAPTAIN) against the winner, CHEVAL BLANC (KC Tham) on the grounds of interference and intimidation from the 450M. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered that, the distance between 2^nd and 1^st at the finish was 0.75L, notwithstanding the incident, MALAYSIA CAPTAIN appeared to have every opportunity to race past CHEVAL BLANC in the concluding stages and from the footage, and in particular the side-on angle, it appeared that CHEVAL BLANC always had the measure of MALAYSIA CAPTAIN.

Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, MALAYSIA CAPTAIN would have finished ahead of CHEVAL BLANC, therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge’s result to stand.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Daniel, the rider of QIJI STAR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to take reasonable steps that he did not cause interference to TRINITY FLYING (App M Ekdihar) and STEEL CUTTER (App R Nuqman) shortly after the start.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Daniel’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 13 November 2023 and to expire on 19 November 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6pm).
