11

YULONG DREAM

(J Low)

Trainer fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 35(1) for presenting the gelding with an undeclared shoeing. Pulled hard, throwing its head near the 850M.

The Stewards inquired into the riding of ROTI KAYA. Evidence was taken from Trainer HY CHENG who stated that he had instructed the gelding be ridden in a mid-to-back position and had advised Jockey J Kamaruddin that ROTI KAYA was blind in one-eye. He further advised that it raced on the pace when a (default) winner, but at its previous start, it had begun badly and raced rearward despite the urging of the rider.

Jockey J Kamaruddin stated that ROTI KAYA had not begun quickly and he had been in a rearward position when crossed by DETERMINE TO WIN near the 800M where he had restrained to avoid that horse’s heels. He believed that ROTI KAYA had then raced reluctantly and was timid despite his mid-race urging. He explained that although failing to improve his position between the 550M and the turn into the straight, the gelding was inclined to lay outwards and he became concerned for his safety when steadying ROTI KAYA on two (2) occasions after DIAMOND SET had shifted in and was again blocked for a clear run near the 150M.

The Stewards were aware that ROTI KAYA had been permitted to race at Selangor Turf Club with one-eye after having performed several trials satisfactorily.

The Panel of Stewards advised Jockey J Kamaruddin that they were dissatisfied with his riding particularly the mid-race section where he had failed to improve his position and his lack of diligence in taking expedient action to best position ROTI KAYA when he received minor interference on two (2) occasions in the straight. The Stewards advised Jockey J Kamaruddin that they believe that whilst they could not substantiate a charge in terms of the Rules, as several elements of his evidence and defense were directly related to the fact that ROTI KAYA was blind in one-eye, they had grave concerns related to his true purpose and veracity in his riding of ROTI KAYA.

Trainer HY Cheng was advised that although permission had been given to permit ROTI KAYA to continue to race with one-eye under the provisions of MRA Rule 79, the Stipendiary Stewards were withdrawing such permission and would make a report to the Committee under MRA Rule 79(3) to revoke the registration of ROTI KAYA after considering that on the evidence tendered, the gelding posed a danger to other horses and riders in a race.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

TUESDAY, 11 JULY 2023, SLTC TRACKWORK

The Stewards inquired into the reason for STAR FIFTYTWO and ALPHA SONIC working on a non-designated section of the grass track on Tuesday, 11 July 2023.

The Trainer of both horses, Trainer KC Tiang stated that he had sent the riders to work on the better part of the grass and that there were no designated markers at that stage. It was ascertained that these markers had been removed in line with the policy to facilitate trials albeit that the grass track was still open.

Trainer KC Tiang, App R Nuqman (STAR FIFTYTWO) and Track Rider Muhammad Syafiq Bin Mohd. Hussain (TR.56) (ALPHA SONIC) were warned that a repetition to any work outside of the designated area and training regions would lead to a penalty being imposed.
