STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT
SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019
SATURDAY, 16 FEBRUARY 2019
STATE OF TRACK: Good
Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:
Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).
RACE 1 (R201) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)
ACME (S Ruzaini) jumped outwards and brushed with GOOD VIBRATIONS (J De Souza), which was carried inwards by SUPER JOY (App A Suriya). ACME was then buffeted by GOOD VIBRATIONS for several strides. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of ACME, was questioned regarding the gelding’s disappointing performance. He stated that he was instructed to take a midfield position but due to the interference at the start, ACME got behind whereupon the gelding commenced to race ungenerously and was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of ACME revealed no significant finding.
MUSANG KING (S Mutaza) was shifted inwards to obtain clear running at the 400M and was thereafter disappointed for a run on the heels of ZOLVED (KC Wong) and ELITE GUSTAVO (AM Aizat) at about the 200M.
MUSANG KING was dislodged after the line. Jockey S Mutaza who was subsequently sent to hospital for further observation, was stood down by the Club Doctor for the remainder of the races today and was exempted from weighing in under the provisions of MRA Rule 121(5).

ASHQAR (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.
RAMIFICATIONS (App A Zaimuddin) jumped inwards and brushed with MIROTIC (Y Aify) which in turn brushed with SNOW DANCER (J Low). Thereafter SNOW DANCER lost its position and raced ungenerously in the early stages.
GOOD PEOPLE (J De Souza) showed a limited response to strong pressure in the middle stages and from the 200M, laid outwards slightly causing ASHQAR to be inconvenienced. A post-race veterinary examination of GOOD PEOPLE revealed no significant finding.
A post-race veterinary examination of SNOW DANCER revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of DOMINATE (Z Khairil) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

RACE 3 (R203) CLASS 4 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)
Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of TRUMPS UP, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1/2kg over his declared weight.
PANCA DELIMA (R Shafiq) shifted backwards and placed its head one side of the barrier, and was obstinate and intractable when the Barrier Handler attempted to correct. Trainer SB Tan was informed by the Stewards that a warning was placed on PANCA DELIMA due to its barrier manners and a recurrence may result in a test being imposed on the gelding.
NOVA WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) reared slightly as the gates opened and jumped awkwardly inwards, and brushed the left side of the gates. Thereafter NOVA WARRIOR over-raced and was racing fiercely without cover at about the 900M.
SUN FORCE (SU Lim) was slow to begin and was soon well-outpaced. A post-race veterinary examination of SUN FORCE revealed that it was lame off hind and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
PROUD PINOY (J Low) dipped in the first few strides. When questioned, Jockey J Low stated that this incident did not affect his intended racing tactics as his plan was to drop PROUD PINOY in behind other runners and obtain cover. However he was unable to do so due to NOVA WARRIOR over-racing on his inside and was therefore forced to race wide in the middle stages and forfeit ground. A post-race veterinary examination of PROUD PINOY revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
IMMORTALITY (J Mallyon) had to check to avoid the heels of PROUD PINOY at about the 1000M, and was thereafter shifted inside.
At about the 900M, KUTTNER (KC Wong) was over-racing on the heels of SUN FORCE.
Approaching the 800M, SANGKURIANG (J De Souza) was held up for clear running on the heels of D’GREAT SONG (HK Cheng).
Between the 600M and the 450M, ROMAN WELLS was disappointed for a run on the heels of D’GREAT SONG.
Approaching 200M, KUTTNER laid inwards in response to a right-handed drive and thereafter had to shift outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil). Approaching the 100M, LUCKY SIXTYSIX drifted outwards under pressure causing KUTTNER and TRUMPS UP to be taken outwards.
Approaching the 200M, ROMAN WELLS (App A Suriya) commenced to shift outwards under pressure and approaching the 100M, caused IMMORTALITY to be taken outwards and crowded on the inside of PROUD PINOY. App A Suriya was shown the vision of this incident and warned by the Stewards to take greater care to keep straight under similar circumstances in future.

LIGHTNING HERO (C Goon) was slow to begin.
ORIENTAL SPIRIT (J Mallyon) over-raced in the early stages.
Approaching the 1000M, BUKIT SUBANG (App L De Souza) was forced to slightly ease off the heels of WINGED FOOT (KC Wong).
VALERIUS (SU Lim) which raced keenly, got its head up in response to being crossed by AUSSIE EAGLE (AM Aizat), forcing the rider to check. Jockey AM Aizat was questioned about this incident and stated that AUSSIE EAGLE was racing keenly in response to ORIENTAL SPIRIT and VALERIUS over-racing in close proximity to him. The gelding then shifted abruptly inwards with no warning, causing VALERIUS to check. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.
At about the 300M, GORDON G (HK Cheng) shifted briefly inwards under pressure and brushed with VALERIUS.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of WINGED FOOT (KC Wong), Trainer R Lines stated that the gelding, which normally gets behind due to lack of early speed, had benefitted from the tepid early pace on this occasion which allowed him to be handily placed.

RACE 5 (R205) OPEN MAIDEN – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)
ANTHEIA (S Ruzaini) slipped on jumping and veered sharply inwards, causing MR WASHINGTON (AM Aizat) to be taken inwards onto DONT MIND IFIDO (J Low) which became crowded between MR WASHINGTON and PREMIUM RUSH (App J Daniel).
Approaching the 1000M, SATELLITE MASTER (Z Khairil) commenced to over-race in response to being crossed by DONT MIND IFIDO which then slowed in response to PREMIUM RUSH slowing in front.
Approaching the 600M, DONT MIND IFIDO commenced to hang fiercely outwards, barely negotiated the bend, forfeited significant ground and thereafter raced very wide. DONT MIND IFIDO which was beaten 27 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance and difficult racing manners. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that DONT MIND IFIDO returned with a cut on the off hind.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SATELLITE MASTER, Trainer S Edwards stated that in his opinion, the gelding had over-raced to some degree in its previous start over a shorter distance. He therefore instructed Jockey Z Khairil to obtain cover in order to help SATELLITE MASTER settle.
Jockey Z Khairil reported that having obtained cover behind DONT MIND IFIDO, the early pace of the race slowed and the field compacted in the early stages. He therefore found himself trapped on heels with no opportunity to make progress until about the 500M, whereupon SATELLITE MASTER commenced to lay outwards under pressure, and then responded just fairly.
Trainer S Edwards added that the slow pace of the race was against SATELLITE MASTER today, and the fact that the gelding just raced 6 days previously may also have affected its performance. The Stewards noted these explanations.

RACE 6 (R206) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)
Trainer S Dunderdale was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on ARC CARA (SU Lim).
PARISBAS (Y Aify) was slow to find its stride.
Approaching the 1000M, GOLD POWER (KC Wong) laid outwards briefly causing ARC CARA to be shifted wide.
WILLIAM KING (C Goon) raced wide from the 800M. Jockey C Goon was shown the vision of this section of the race and advised by the Stewards that in future he must take positive measures to obtain an advantageous position and not lose ground by racing wide. In this incident, the Stewards informed him that he could have taken a position directly in front of PARISBAS and therefore avoided being forced wide.
Approaching the 400M, MACHUNG STAR (J Low) laid inwards under pressure causing MOON BABY (HS Gill) to be taken inwards, and GOLD POWER (KC Wong) laid outwards under pressure causing MARY KING (App A Zaimuddin) to be taken outwards onto ARC CARA.
Approaching the 300M, GOLD POWER laid inwards causing BELLA VELOCE (J Mallyon) to be briefly crowded, BELLA VELOCE then obtained clear running, as GOLD POWER subsequently rolled outwards.
Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of MR WOLFF, which was unplaced, weighed in at 1.1kgs lighter than his allotted weight. Shortly afterwards, it was discovered by a Stipendiary Steward that the lead bag had not been in his possession when he weighed in. It was found nearby on the floor, where it had been inadvertently removed with the number cloth. The weight of the lead bag was sufficient to make up the difference within the accepted level of tolerance as specified in MRA Rule 121(2) and as such MR WOLFF was deemed to have carried correct weight.
RACE 7 (R207) METRO A – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)
HIGH COUNCIL (J Low) was soon outpaced and never competitive. Jockey J Low reported that the gelding was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of HIGH COUNCIL revealed no significant finding. The gelding, which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.
Approaching the 1000M, LUCKY JUSTICE (AM Aizat) shied away from SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (KC Wong) causing AWATERE (S Salee) to be crowded on the inside.
Approaching the 600M, SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (KC Wong) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SUPER MARIO (SU Lim).
At about the 100M, DUKE OF NORMANDY (App S Rosmizan) was forced to shift outwards for clear running in response to being crossed by PANDA BOMB (App A Suriya) which laid inwards under pressure. The Stewards reviewed the vision of the incident and concluded that PANDA BOMB was clear at the time of the crossing, and no interference had occurred.
A post-race veterinary examination of AWATERE revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
When questioned as to the improved performance shown by PANDA BOMB today, Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding performs best when he obtains a prominent position. In its last start, in a stronger race, PANDA BOMB jumped awkwardly and suffered interference in the early stages which placed him at a disadvantage.

RACE 8 (R208) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)
Trainer SB Tan was warned for failing to ensure that the deworming status of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini) was updated.
PLAYBOY SOON (App S Uzair) brushed with FLYING WINNER (R Shafiq) on jumping.
APOLLO (App A Suriya) was slow to begin. App A Suriya reported that his saddle slipped backwards on jumping.
At about the 1000M, GREENSTONE (Z Khairil) commenced to over-race and when restrained to avoid the heels of HERO CHAMPION (J Low), laid outwards and bumped APOLLO outwards.
At about the 300M, HERO CHAMPION (J Low) commenced to shift inwards under pressure, causing FLYING WINNER, SEGAR THE BEST (App A Zaimuddin) and PLAYBOY SOON on his inside to be crowded at about the 200M. Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of GREENSTONE, which was racing in the gap between SEGAR THE BEST and PLAYBOY SOON at the 300M, reported to the Stewards that he had anticipated the gap narrowing as horses from the outside were taken inwards, and therefore as a precautionary measure, had changed direction and shifted outwards approaching the 250M.
At about the 200M, APOLLO was disappointed for a run on the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini), which compounded, and then when shifted inside to obtain clear running, was briefly crowded by ARECIBO (App L De Souza).
At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider of HERO CHAMPION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 300M, he allowed his mount to shift persistently inwards under pressure causing FLYING WINNER to be crowded on his inside, and SEGAR THE BEST and PLAYBOY SOON to be seriously unbalanced and tightened to the inside of FLYING WINNER at about the 200M.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) Malaysian race days with effect from 18 February 2019 and to expire on 16 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5pm).

ENCOSTA ZONE (Z Khairil) was slow to begin.
MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) was slow to find its stride.
Approaching the 1000M, TILSWORTH MALI (SU Lim) ducked abruptly outwards and bumped FRANCES (App L De Souza).
NATION THEATRE (App A Suriya) over-raced from the 1000M to the 600M.
WINTERFELL (KC Wong) showed no response to strong pressure from the 600M and commenced to lay inwards from the 400M. A post-race veterinary examination of WINTERFELL revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of KISS ME (AM Aizat) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and was lame off fore. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
RACE 10 (R210) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)
STREET CHAMP (App A Suriya) was slow to find its stride, and had to be urged to obtain a forward position in the early stages.
At about the 1100M, RED SAPPHIRE (App WW Cheah) was eased to avoid the heels of EMPEROR WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) and ducked inwards, causing LIM’S ACTION (HS Gill) to be badly crowded on his inside. At the same time, COLONEL LINCOLN (S Salee) was eased to avoid the heels of SEMIFREDDO (AM Aizat) which rolled inwards. This caused a chain reaction which led to SMIDDY BYRNE (App J Daniel) being awkwardly placed on the heels of COLONEL LINCOLN and ORION (App L De Souza) being awkwardly placed on the heels of SMIDDY BYRNE whilst also being crowded by LIM’S ACTION to his outside. Jockey J Mallyon, the rider of RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN, had to take evasive action to avoid the heels of ORION causing his mount to lose ground.
At about the 400M, LIM’S ACTION was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.
At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of SEMIFREDDO, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear, causing COLONEL LINCOLN to ease and the horses following COLONEL LINCOLN to be awkwardly placed.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 February 2019 and to expire on 3 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:15pm).
GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC
RACE 10 (R192) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A), BRIGHT FUTURE STAKES, SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019
A post-race veterinary examination of SUCCESSION (HS Gill) revealed no significant finding. SUCCESSION will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. The gelding was impounded.
RACE 9 (R191) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), GREAT WEALTH STAKES, SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019
The Stewards, on 15 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of CHAR KWAY TEOW in the above race. They took evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer C Leck, the rider and trainer of CHAR KWAY TEOW. Also present to give evidence were the Starter, Assistant Starter and Barrier Attendant Khangharam Choudhary.
Trainer C Leck stated that he had instructed M Ganeesh to ride CHAR KWAY TEOW wherever comfortable, but above all not to rush the gelding in the early stages. He added that CHAR KWAY TEOW had displayed difficult barrier manners in two recent Barrier Practices and demonstrated a tendency to rear up. As such, Jockey M Ganeesh, who had ridden him in both practices, requested for the gelding to be attended to prevent a recurrence. Having reviewed the vision of the start, both Trainer C Leck and Jockey M Ganeesh stated that CHAR KWAY TEOW was responsible for his own slow jump in that the gelding shifted backwards just before the gate opened. They added that although Khangharam Choudhary had released his grip on the bridle slightly too late after the gate had opened, this had no material effect.
After reviewing the vision of the whole race after the jump, and hearing further evidence, Jockey M Ganeesh was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride CHAR KWAY TEOW to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were:
i) Between about the 850M and the 650M, he made insufficient effort to improve his position when a clear opportunity was available to do so by progressing into the gap between DROUGHT on the outside and SOON SEEKER on the inside.
ii) From just before the 400M to just before the 200M, he used his whip in a manner different to his normal style of riding a finish and which appeared to be less effective, in that several of his attempted strikes made little or no contact.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s riding record, his mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month. This suspension will commence on 18 February 2019, to be served consecutively following the completion of his suspension from Monday, 11 February 2019 until Sunday, 17 February 2019, both dates inclusive (2 Malaysian race days).
An application to defer the commencement of the suspension under the terms of MRA Rule 48(5) was refused. Jockey M Ganeesh was advised of his Right of Appeal against both the suspension imposed and the refusal to defer its commencement.
Jockey M Ganeesh subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal against the refusal to defer the commencement of his suspension, on the grounds that he had provisionally accepted mounts for the Selangor Turf Club race day on Saturday, 23 February 2019. A list of seven (7) potential mounts was provided to the Racing Stewards who will deliberate on his appeal.
INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING A REPORT FROM SELANGOR TURF CLUB (SLTC) MEDICAL STAFF IN RELATION TO TWO (2) HORSES TRAINED BY TRAINER S SIVA ON TUESDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2019 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB
The Stewards, on 16 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into a report from a member of the SLTC Medical Staff that he had observed two horses under the training of Trainer S Siva returning from the training track at approximately 6:08am on Tuesday, 12 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, over 20 minutes before the training track was officially open.
Trainer S Siva admitted that ALIEN and BUKIT SUBANG had used the Sand Ring before it was officially open, but stated that his staff had assumed this not to be the case as the floodlights were already operational, and the gate was open and unguarded.
The Stewards undertook to review security procedures at the training tracks. They also reminded Trainer S Siva of his responsibility to ensure that his staff comply with all Club Regulations.
