*When questioned as to the reason being so far back, Jockey J Shankar stated that D’GREAT VULTURE had been leaning to the right on jumping and both he and the gelding had become unbalanced, it was his intention to be running handy-to-midfield position, however, after this incident, he had been rearward. He also advised that the gelding was inclined to lay inwards when ridden forward on straightening. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.
*Jockey J Daniel, when questioned, stated that HAVANA, being a fractious horse, was loaded early and due to the protracted delay, had to stand in the stall for a considerable part and had effectively switched off. He was then in a position that he had to ride the gelding from the rear rather than its preferred midfield position.

He stated that after trialling on two (2) occasions, he was of the opinion that REDOUBT would be best suited by attempting to lead. He further advised that although CAPONE had led and won at its two (2) previous starts, on both occasions, he had instructed that the gelding be ridden handy. Also, that both of those races were Class 5 and in his opinion, significantly inferior to this race. Whilst accepting these explanations, the Stewards reminded Trainer HY Cheng that he is obliged by the Rules to advise of any change to tactical instructions.

APPEAL BY JOCKEY MOHAMAD ZULFIKRI BIN MOHAMAD SALIM (S ZULFIKRI) AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF THREE (3) MONTHS AND FINE OF RM20,000/- FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE PANEL OF STEWARDS RELATED TO HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “SACRED TONIC” IN RACE 8 (R795), SUNDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021
The Selangor Turf Club Appeal Panel heard the above appeal on 10 February 2022 (Thursday).
After considering submissions from Jockey S Zulfikri and the trainer of SACRED TONIC, Trainer S Siva and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Appeal Panel dismissed the appeal against the conviction under MRA Rule 44(10). On the issue of penalty, they ratified the suspension of three (3) months but reduced the fine to RM5,000/-. His suspension commenced from 22 January 2022 and to expire on 21 April 2022, both dates conclusive. The deposit was ordered to be refunded.
RACE 4 (R176) CLASS 4 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2022
The Stewards, on 10 February 2022 (Thursday), inquired into Jockey J De Souza’ riding of D’GREAT EFFORT in the above race.
After considering evidence from Jockey J De Souza and Trainer S Siva, the rider and trainer of D’GREAT EFFORT respectively and reviewing the film, the Stewards found Jockey J De Souza guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that the manner in which he rode D’GREAT EFFORT out in the straight was considered insufficiently vigourous and was in contrast to the level of vigour that he usually demonstrated.
The Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 14 February 2022 and to expire on 13 March 2022, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with any other penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
