STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT
SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2017
SATURDAY, 19 AUGUST 2017
STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 & 2), upgraded to “Good” after Race 2.
Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:
Mr Philip Anderson (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward).
RACE 1 (R1035) CLASS 5 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)
SWISS BANK (App A Zaimuddin) over-raced in the middle stages of the race.
The Stewards showed App W Faizal, the rider of VALENTINE BABY, the vision of the final 100M, and warned him that he must have better control of his mounts when shifting out under the whip.
The Stewards questioned Jockey L Sofhan and Trainer LN Danis, the rider and trainer of MANMADHAN respectively into the mare’s poor performance today. Jockey L Sofhan stated that his instructions were to be midfield. He explained that the mare had no early pace, failed to respond to his riding at any stage when being put under pressure with the whip, found nothing and ran a disappointing race.
Trainer LN Danis confirmed the instructions, and stated that the mare had been working well and he was very disappointed with the run. The Stewards informed Trainer LN Danis to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the mare on returning to his stable. Their explanations were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of MANMADHAN revealed no significant finding.
The Stewards warned Jockey L Sofhan that in future he must obtain the Stewards’ permission to leave the jockey’s room prior to the conclusion of his riding engagements.
At the conclusion of an inquiry, App AM Aizat, the rider of SWAN SONG, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(2) in that he failed to arrive on course within the prescribed time prior to his riding engagement. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous record and his submissions on penalty. He was fined RM250/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

PACHELBEL’S CANON (Y Narredu) had to steady racing to the 200M when the MILLIONAIRE (Y Aify) laid out at the same time as THE OMEGA MAN (J De Souza) laid in.
The Stewards questioned Jockey Y Aify and Trainer L Moy, the rider and Trainer of THE MILLIONAIRE respectively, into Jockey Y Aify’s ride on the gelding. Jockey Y Aify explained that at about 100M after the start, he had to steady his mount to avoid the heels of DROGBA (App AK Lim) and as a result, was unable to be midfield as his instructions. He further stated that racing to the 700M, he again had to check off the heels of DROGBA and clipped that gelding’s heels, taking him back to last. He informed the Stewards that racing to the 200M, when drawing the whip, he dropped his reins for a short distance.
Trainer L Moy confirmed the instructions and after due consideration, the Stewards took into account what happened to THE MILLIONAIRE during the race and took no further action. The Stewards noted their explanations.
The Stewards questioned Trainer S Hamilton into the improved performance of GABBAR (S Salee). She explained that GABBAR has been racing consistently prior to its last start and today, the gelding was better suited in the going. She also stated that she expected the gelding to run a good race and had no other explanation for the improved performance. The Stewards noted her explanation.
