GENERAL REPORT(S)
RACE 3 (R933) CLASS 4 – 1300M, SATURDAY, 28TH JULY 2018,
2ND DAY, PENANG SPRINT TROPHY MEETING 2018
The Stewards today (29th July 2018) continued their Inquiry into the performance of HORSE WARRIOR in the above race. Further evidence was taken from Trainer K Coetzee and Jockey HS Gill. Trainer K Coetzee explained that his instructions were to ride the gelding from midfield to back as HORSE WARRIOR was having its first start since 17th October 2017. Trainer K Coetzee stated that HORSE WARRIOR had bled during the trial on 24th October 2017 and had been sent for a very long spell. The horse was resuming after passing its bleeder’s test on 22nd June 2018. Trainer K Coetzee further explained that the gelding had been working well. Jockey HS Gill stated that his instructions were to race from midfield to back, however, the gelding was not showing much pace from the 800M despite his urging and was racing further back in the field than he anticipated. However, the gelding started to improve from the 300M when he rode vigorously with the whip and did finish off the race well. The Stewards advised Jockey HS Gill that he might have got too far back in the early stages of the race and he was warned to ride his horses in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.
Trainer K Coetzee’s explanation was noted.
RACE 4 (R934) CLASS 4 – 1600M, SATURDAY, 28TH JULY 2018,
2ND DAY, PENANG SPRINT TROPHY MEETING 2018
The Stewards today (29th July 2018) concluded an Inquiry into the poor performance of BAHAR in the above race. Evidence was taken from Trainer F Maynard and Jockey S Ruzaini, the trainer and rider of BAHAR respectively. Trainer F Maynard stated that after the gelding’s run in its last start, his instructions were to sit midfield to allow the horse a chance to settle and finish the race off. Jockey S Ruzaini stated that after getting a fair jump, BAHAR was very difficult to settle going into the first turn and had to be restrained from getting onto the heels of D’GREAT GLORY (App KC Wong). Passing the 1000M, BAHAR again commenced to over-race and was difficult to settle. From the 600M when he placed the gelding under pressure, it failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the finish.
The Stewards noted the explanations tendered by Jockey S Ruzaini and Trainer F Maynard. However, Trainer F Maynard was advised that should he make changes to his riding tactics, he should inform the Stewards. Jockey S Ruzaini was advised to ride his mounts so as to leave no room for query. BAHAR which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
