Jockey HS Gill stated that from the wide barrier, he could not go forward as per his instructions and was caught wide going into the first turn. From the 800M, he again travelled wide and commenced to ride BALBOA vigorously with the whip for some distance but the gelding failed to respond to his riding and on entering the straight, he again used the whip but the gelding failed to respond and finished the race off poorly. Trainer K Coetzee explained that he was disappointed with BALBOA’s performance today and that in the races that the gelding had won, it had been able to lead easily and did its best. Both explanations were noted. Trainer K Coetzee was advised to report to the Stewards should he find anything amiss with BALBOA during the week.

RACE 11 (R885) CLASS 5 – 1600M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 15 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018
The Stewards, on 17 July 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of SO ON. Evidence was taken from App S Uzair, the rider of SO ON, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy.
After reviewing the films and considering the evidence tendered, App S Uzair pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that in the final 200M of the race, he failed to ride with sufficient vigour.
When deciding on a penalty, the Stewards took into account App S Uzair’s guilty plea, riding records and mitigating factors. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App S Uzair’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races, trials and trackwork for a period of three (3) months with effect from 23 July 2018 and to expire on 22 October 2018, both dates inclusive. He was also advised of the provisions of MRA Rule 48(2) & 48(3), and his Right of Appeal (2:45pm).
