RACE 1 (R1427) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M
YOU ARE SPECIAL, ANOTHER SHOW, FIRST SUCCESS and KYO are all course scratching. YOU ARE SPECIAL and ANOTHER SHOW had each sustained a bruised near fore sole, FIRST SUCCESS had sustained a bruised near fore cannon and KYO had sustained a bruised near fore fetlock. These 4 geldings will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
TAIWAN CAPTAIN (HS Gill) and MYSTICAL STAR (SU Lim) were both slow into stride.
LIM’S HOPEFULLY (M Ewe) was hanging in in the straight.
At approximately the 600M-mark, ROCK ARTIST (S Salee) commenced to give ground. A post-race veterinary examination of ROCK ARTIST revealed no obvious abnormality, however the gelding cast its near fore plate on returning.
Jockey HS Gill, the rider of TAIWAN CAPTAIN, reported that his mount did not act in the going. A post-race veterinary examination of TAIWAN CAPTAIN revealed no obvious abnormality.
A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S HOPEFULLY (M Ewe) revealed no obvious abnormality, however the gelding returned having cast its near fore plate.
TAIWAN CAPTAIN and ROCK ARTIST, which raced poorly, will each be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 2 (R 1428) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M
LUCK HAPPY, D’GREAT RISE and WHITE RABBIT, all course scratching as they had sustained a bruised off fore sole, bruised off fore suspensory ligament and sore back respectively, will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
DON’T FORGET THIS (L De Souza) which was difficult to be boxed, will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.
HOUSEHOLD DYNASTY (M Yusri) which stood and was slow to begin, will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of MICHAELEARNSTOROCK (AK Lim) which raced poorly revealed no obvious abnormality. The mare will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
Trainer S Shanmugam was questioned with regards to the improved performance of CHERISH (R Rueven) as compared to its run on 27th November 2022. The only explanation he was able to offer was that this gelding had been working well and in his opinion, was suited to the 1400M distance. The Stewards were not entirely satisfied with his explanation and as such, his attention was drawn the rules regarding “in- and-out” running (MRA Rule 117(3)). Trainer S Shanmugam was further advised that should CHERISH prove to be inconsistent in the future, it may be suspended.

RACE 3 (R1429) CLASS 4 (B) – 1100M
HARLEY FLAME, a course scratching as it had sustained a stone bruise near fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
Acting on veterinary advice that ELITE SAINT (S Salee) was lame off fore, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3.14 pm. ELITE SAINT will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
YOGI (R Rueven) was slow into stride.
OUD WOOD (J Low) was hanging in in the straight.

RACE 4 (R1430) CLASS 4 (A) – 1100M
GOOD LUCK CHARM, a course scratching as it had a nail prick off fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
At approximately the 1000M-mark, MYO (L De Souza) was bumped by GOLDEN QUEEN (M Ewe) which was shifting in. Jockey M Ewe was shown the video of this incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Jockey HS Gill, the rider of ZHU CAPTAIN, reported that his mount was not striding out freely and was making abnormal respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that ZHU CAPTAIN returned with respiratory distress and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of SUPER SIXTYONE (Y Aify) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 5 (R1431) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M
CAVALLA COURT and I’M SMART GREY, both course scratching as they had sustained float injury (swollen left hock and bruised right hip) and a bruised near fore suspensory ligament respectively, will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
GALILEO’S APPROACH which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
GEORGETOWN (SU Lim) jumped awkwardly inwards, brushing PERFECT MISSION (HK Cheng) and shortly thereafter, SUNNY FIGHTER (App WW Cheah) shifted inwards, carrying GEORGETOWN inwards.
BLEU MARINE (AM Aizat) over-raced in the early and middle stage of the race.
Jockey R Narendran, the rider of JET BLACK, dropped his off side rein at approximately the 350M-mark and regained it shortly thereafter. Jockey R Narendran was shown the video of his ride and was warned against the practice of using his whip when his horse is clearly out of contention.
A post-race veterinary examination of JET BLACK which raced poorly, revealed no obvious abnormality. JET BLACK will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 6 (R1432) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M
ALWRICH which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
Trainer K Ananthen was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the use of blinkers on BRING IT WIN (AM Aizat) within the stipulated time.
LIM’S PIPER (KP Lim) was slow into stride.
SMOOTH OPERATOR (S Salee) jumped awkwardly inwards, bumping BANGKOK BOY (R Narendran).
A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S PIPER which raced poorly, revealed no obvious abnormality. LIM’S PIPER will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 7 (R1433) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M
PLACE YOUR BET, BELLA VELOCE, COME AND TAKE ALL and PULAU PINANG are all course scratching. PLACE YOUR BET was bruised near fore fetlock, BELLA VELOCE had suffered multiple wounds from float injury, COME AND TAKE ALL was sore right shoulder and PULAU PINANG had sustained bruised off fore heels. Each horse will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
TWILL GUY, which was up 18kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
JULIUS CAESAR (SU Lim) jumped awkwardly.
SUNNY STAR (M Ewe) jumped awkwardly, brushing the outside gate and was slow into stride.
TRIPLE ONE STAR (App WW Cheah) and GAIN ECLIPSE (App A Nazir) raced tight between the 1100M and 1000M-mark.
The saddle on RAISE ME UP (S Salee) slipped forward in the running.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that TWILL GUY (AM Aizat) returned having cast its off fore plate.

POST-RACE ANALYSIS (EQUINE)
27TH NOVEMBER 2022

The report dated 8th December 2022 (V22/187) from the Chief Analyst of Usains Biomics Laboratory stated that 27 coded urine and 27 sets of coded blood samples from the above- mentioned race meeting were received on 28th November 2022 for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

The report dated 8th December 2022 (V22/188) from the Chief Analyst of Usains Biomics Laboratory stated that 2 coded urine samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 28th November 2022, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
INQUIRY CONCERNING URINE SAMPLE CODED “J-6431” WHICH WAS TAKEN FROM JOCKEY S ZULFIKRI ON 12th NOVEMBER 2022 AT THE PENANG TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2022 RETURNING POSITIVE TO “MITRAGYNINE” WHICH IS A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE IN TERMS OF THE MRA RULES
The Stewards concluded the Inquiry into the above matter on Sunday, 18th December 2022 at the Penang Turf Club. Evidence were taken from Jockey S Zulfikri and Dr. Chan Sue Hay, Chief Analyst of USains Biomics Laboratory.
Jockey S Zulfikri pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded “J-6431”, submitted by him on 12th November 2022 at the Penang Turf Club November Meeting 2022, upon analysis, revealed the presence of “Mitragynine”, which is a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.
In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey S Zulfikri’s guilty plea and his clean record. Jockey S Zulfikri was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months backdated to Monday, 28th November 2022 on which is the date when he was stood down from riding and to expire on Saturday, 27th May 2023, both days inclusive. He was informed of his Right of Appeal (12.40 pm).
Jockey S Zulfikri was informed that he would be required to provide a clear urine sample for analysis before resuming riding trackwork/barrier trials and tests.
