RACE 1 (R579) CLASS 5(A) – 1200M
MISS MICHELLE, a course scratching as it had sustained cellulitis off hind cannon, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
The Stewards permitted Jockey S Ruzaini to replace Jockey S Saddam as the rider of SUNNY FIGHTER when the latter failed to arrive on course within the prescribed time. Jockey S Saddam was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 44(2).
The Official Starter reported that bridle on SONG RIVER (Y Aify) had to be re-fitted at the start. Trainer HS Lim was warned to ensure that all equipment is properly fitted in future.
OUD WOOD (J Low) jumped awkwardly outwards, inconveniencing SONG RIVER.
CITY KNIGHT (HK Cheng) was obliged to race wide on the turn.
At approximately the 400M-mark, BIG POWER (App R Nuqman) was inconvenienced when TILSWORTH MICK (KC Wong) rolled outwards and at the same time LEESTOWN EXPRESS (S Salee) rolled inwards.
SUNNY FIGHTER was hanging in in the straight.
Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of CITY KNIGHT, reported that the breast check on the gelding broke during the running.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that CITY KNIGHT returned having cast its near fore plate.

RACE 2 (R580) CLASS 5(A) – 1200M
ROCK ARTIST and YOU ARE GENIUS, both course scratching as they had sustained a stone bruise near fore foot and sole bruise off fore respectively, will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
Trainer C Robert was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours for PULAU PINANG (App N Varmah).
At approximately the 75M-mark, FIRST SUCCESS (HK Cheng) was inconvenienced when MOONSHINE MISTRESS (App AR Aiman) rolled inwards. App AR Aiman, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer HS Lim, was shown the video of the incident and warned to make a better attempt to keep his horse on a straight course in future.
App A Nazir, the rider of LUCKY SIXTYSIX, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of LUCKY SIXTYSIX revealed no obvious abnormality.
A post-race veterinary examination of BALL AND CHAIN (J Daniel) revealed no obvious abnormality.
At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App A Nazir, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer CC Ooi, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(9)(b)(iii) for incompetent riding in that whilst riding LUCKY SIXTYSIX, he failed to give his mount sufficient rein on jumping, resulting in it being very slowly away. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, App A Nazir’s riding record and points of mitigation. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from Sunday, 15th May 2022 and to expire on Thursday, 14th July 2022, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4.10pm).

RACE 3 (R581) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M
JULIUS CAESAR, PURE SPARK and MAKE U FAMOUS are all course scratching. JULIUS CAESAR had sustained a swollen near fore cannon, PURE SPARK was knocked right knee and MAKE U FAMOUS had colic. These 3 geldings will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
SOLID BRISK (J Low) was over-racing in the early and middle stages.
Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of DROUGHT, reported that his whip broke in the running.
Jockey SU Lim, the rider of ALPHA MOLTRES, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ALPHA MOLTRES revealed no obvious abnormality.
Post-race veterinary examinations of LOUEY VELOCE (KC Tham) and BATTLESTAR (KP Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.
Jockey KP Lim was questioned with regards to the start and was shown the video. He was warned that in future, he would be expected to make every effort to ensure that his horse jumps on terms with the field, failing which action may be taken against him.

RACE 4 (R 582) CLASS 4(B) – 1200M
Emergency acceptor, D’GREAT STRIKE was withdrawn due to a capacity field.
CAORUNN (S Salee) and DESIRE SKY (WK Lee) brushed on jumping.
At about the 1000M-mark, PONTIANAK (J Daniel), when shifting in, clipped the heels of IAMBUTTER (AK Lim) and stumbled.
ACE’S WILD (KC Wong) over-raced in the early and middle stages.
The saddle on NO REGRETS (KP Lim) slipped back in the running.
A post-race veterinary examination of SHOWCASE THE GOLD (Y Aify) revealed no obvious abnormality.

Emergency acceptors, GRASSWOOD STAR and CITY OF DREAM were both withdrawn due to a capacity field.
TRAFALGAR, a course scratching as it had a swelling on the near fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
MR AK (AK Lim) was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barrier and was passed fit to race.
FLYING BABY (AM Aizat) was slow into stride.
Jockey AM Aizat was questioned with regards to his ride on FLYING BABY. After viewing the video, the Stewards warned Jockey AM Aizat that in future, he should ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.
The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” after the running of this race.

RACE 6 (R584) BANDED 51 – 74 – 1300M
(ONLY APPRENTICES ALLOWANCES PERMITTED)
The Stewards permitted TRUDY (S Salee) to race without blinkers.
MR HOPKINS (K Eirwan) was restless in the barrier, threw its head up as the start was effected, being slow into stride.
TRUDY drifted out under pressure in the concluding stages.
Jockey R Rueven, the rider of ANDADO, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ANDADO revealed no obvious abnormality.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that MR HOPKINS returned having cast its near fore plate.
Post-race veterinary examinations of SACRED DON (App M Ruvanesh) and D’GREAT BOSS (AM Aizat) revealed no obvious abnormality. SACRED DON and D’GREAT BOSS, which raced poorly, will each be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 7 (R585) CLASS 4(A) – 1600M
Emergency acceptors HONEY BOWL and AYAAN were both withdrawn due to a capacity field.
MULTIBLUE SHARK, a course scratching as it was swollen near hind fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
ORDOS LEGEND and ONE FORCE which were down 18kgs and 16kgs in body weight respectively since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.
Jockey J Daniel was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1½ kg over on SACRED GALAXY within the stipulated time.
Trainer K Coetzee was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours for ORDOS LEGEND (KC Wong).

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that BACK TO THE FUTURE (App AR Aiman) returned having cast its near fore plate.
Post-race veterinary examinations of ORDOS LEGEND and ONE FORCE (CK Tan) revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 8 (R586) CLASS 5(B) – 1200M
RICHE RICH (SU Lim) and MYSTICAL STAR (App N Varmah) were both slow into stride.
A post-race veterinary examination of GORDON G (S Ruzaini) revealed no obvious abnormality.
Trainer S Shanmugam was questioned with regards to the improved performance of ASIAN JET (J Daniel) today. The only explanation he could offer was that he removed the blinkers and the tongue-tie and had hoped that this horse would improve which it had. In his opinion, this had accounted for the improvement. He undertook to race ASIAN JET equipped in a similar manner in future. His explanation was noted.
Trainer R Lines was questioned with regards to the disappointing performance of GORDON G (S Ruzaini) today. The only explanation he could offer was that the gelding was drawn badly today and was unable to be as handy as he would have liked and as such, disappointed. His explanation was noted.

RACE 9 (R587) CLASS 5(B) – 1200M
BEAUTY THIRTYNINE which was down 21kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
HERO CHAMPION (J Daniel) was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to race.
HERO CHAMPION blundered badly on jumping, almost dislodging its rider.
Shortly after the start, RAISE ME UP (AM Aizat) became crowded when racing tight on the inside of LIM’S KEYWAY (App N Varmah) which was racing on the inside of BEAUTY THIRTYNINE (HK Cheng) which had been slightly influenced inwards by BLACK IS POWER (SU Lim). The Stewards deemed this to be a racing incident and took no further action.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that HERO CHAMPION returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
Trainer HY Cheng and Jockey SU Lim were questioned with regards to the improved performance of BLACK IS POWER today as compared to its run at the Penang Turf Club on 1st May 2022. Jockey SU Lim stated that he had received the same instructions which were to get a good jump and place the horse where it was comfortable. Trainer HY Cheng stated that he had given the same instructions to Jockey SU Lim today. However, the horse was drawn better today and there was no pace in the race. Furthermore, he was surprised by the horse’s performance today and could not offer any further explanation. His attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding “in-and-out” running and he was warned that should this horse prove to be inconsistent in the future, it may be suspended.

RACE 8 (R532) CLASS 5(A) -1600M, SUNDAY, 1ST MAY 2022, PENANG TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2022
Trainer HS Lim was questioned with regards to the improved performance of SACRED GALAXY (R Rueven). The only explanation he could offer was that the horse had rested well since its last run and he had changed the rider and this, in his opinion, accounted for the improvement.
HEARIING OF APPEAL FROM JOCKEY CHENG HAN KOK (HK CHENG) AGAINST THE PENALTY OF FOUR MONTHS’ SUSPENSION AND FINE
OF RM10,000/- IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS FOR A
CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) FOR THE RUNNING AND HANDLING OF “GOLDEN CRAFTSMAN” IN RACE 1 (R136) ON SATURDAY, 29TH JANUARY 2022, 1ST DAY, PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022
The Penang Turf Club Racing Stewards on 13th May 2022 heard the above Appeal. Jockey HK Cheng was assisted by Ms Mok Cheng Yoon, a certified Court Interpreter.
After considering the submissions from Jockey HK Cheng, Trainer HY Cheng and the Chief Stipendiary Steward, and reviewing the video replay, the Racing Stewards dismissed the Appeal. The penalty of four months’ suspension was enhanced to six months, to take effect from Monday, 16th May 2022 and to expire on Tuesday, 15th November 2022, both days inclusive. The fine of RM10,000/- remains in effect. The appeal deposit was forfeited.
