At the conclusion of an inquiry, App WW Cheah, the rider of DRONE, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, R Lines, was found guilty of a charge of incompetent riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(b)(iii) in that:
-
He rode DRONE to lead by an inordinate margin mid-race; and
-
He looked around more than four (4) occasions, actions which interfered with his proper riding to ensure his horse was given full opportunity of winning the race.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App WW Cheah’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Further, the Stewards considered similar penalties under the same Rule. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, to be deferred, with effect from 19 September 2022 and to expire on 18 October 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

After taking evidence from Jockey S Ruzaini (NORTHERN STAR) and the gelding’s Trainer, HY Cheng, the Stewards found Jockey S Ruzaini guilty of a charge under 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that he failed to exercise sufficient vigour and purpose in his riding of NORTHERN STAR in the straight.

Following the running of this race, the Stewards questioned several riders related to their horses jumping sections of the track. It was ascertained that a different level of grass cutting had pre-disposed to horses either shying or jumping at different parts of the course. Following an inspection, the Stewards considered the issue and under the provisions of MRA Rule 159(2)(d), instructed that the remaining three (3) races be conducted on the Long Course over the same distances but effected from different starting positions. Subsequently, this necessitated a delay as below:

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC
TUESDAY, 30 AUGUST 2022, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL
The Stewards, on 8 September 2022 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into an interference near the 700M where SACRED SEA (App A Nazir) and SUNRISE (App WW Cheah) were forced to restrain with SUNRISE forced inside the safety marker poles.
App A Suriya (ALWAYS AFRAID) was reprimanded under the provisions of MRA Rule 44(9) for putting pressure on runners on his inside at this stage of the trial.
TUESDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER 2022, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL 2
The Stewards, on 8 September 2022 at the Selangor Turf Club, questioned Jockey MM Firdaus related to his actions in riding GENERAL QIN in the early stages of the trial. He explained that his foot had slipped from the near stirrup on jumping. An inspection of the stirrup irons identified them to be in poor condition.
Jockey MM Firdaus was instructed to report any such incidents that may affect the performance of his horse and identify defective equipment. Trainer KC Tiang was reprimanded for presenting GENERAL QIN to trial with sub-standard equipment.
RACE 7 (R972), SATURDAY, 20 AUGUST 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2022
The 3-week embargo imposed on ATTENTION on the above date, was rescinded. ATTENTION will only be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
TUESDAY, 30 AUGUST 2022, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL 3
Trainer SY Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for presenting LIMITLESS VENTURE to trial with a lead bag over the top of the saddle cloth number.

The report dated 25 August 2022 (V22/127) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 31 coded urine and 31 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 20 August 2022, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
