Ganeesh) particularly in the home straight. The Stewards’ concern was Jockey M Ganeesh failed to take a run to the outside of WENONA’S LEGACY in the home straight when there was an opportunity to do so, and he elected to stay to the inside where in the opinion of the Stewards, there would be insufficient room to obtain a clear run.

After taking extensive evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer WC Lim and after viewing the gelding’s previous race starts in particular its racing manners, the Stewards were satisfied with the Trainer’s explanations and gave Jockey M Ganeesh the “benefit of the doubt” on this occasion. RACE 1 (R172) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

The Stewards questioned Jockey M Ganeesh, in the presence of Trainer PS Kumaran, into the tactics that will be adopted on KIM SALUTE in this event. Jockey M Ganeesh reported that from Barrier 1, he was instructed to go forward, and try and gain a position third or fourth placing and do his best in the straight to gain the best possible placing. Trainer PS Kumaran confirmed the instructions and this was supported by the Trainer’s Instruction Form. The Stewards informed Jockey M Ganeesh that they will be monitoring his ride.

Prior to being loaded into the barriers, AIR POWER (SS Vanan) reared high in the air, dislodging its rider. Jockey SS Vanan was examined by the Club Doctor and was passed fit to fulfill his riding engagements for the remainder of the day.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT
SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2017
SATURDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding
(Running rail in true position for the entire circuit)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Michael Castillo (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R265) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

CHAMPAGNE ROSE (App S Zulfikri) jumped awkwardly.

LAZAROO (HK Cheng) and YOU NEVER KNOW (App AK Lim) were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 700M, MY TOUCH (App A Zaimuddin) was momentarily restrained by its rider in an endeavour to settle the gelding and as a result, SUPREME SASSO (F Yap) which was following, was momentarily inconvenienced.

LAZAROO shifted out approaching the home turn and made turn awkwardly.

CONQUISTADOR (App T Krisna) had to shift out over the heels of ROCK AND STONE (S Sandana) and VAGABOND (App M Hanif) in an endeavour to gain clear running in the home straight.

Over the final 150M, MY TOUCH which had a tendency to lay inwards, had to shift off the heels of NEW CLASSMATE (App KC Wong) to gain a clear run.

The Stewards questioned Trainer C Leck and Jockey S Ruzaini into the disappointing performance of ARLO which was favourite in the betting market. Trainer C Leck explained that in his opinion, he was surprised with the betting of this horse as the gelding was having its first start for his stable and has shown marginal improvement. The instructions were to get back on the gelding, and try and gain a soft run in the early stages and by doing this, the gelding may be able to show some improvement to finish off its races.

Jockey S Ruzaini confirmed the Trainer’s Instructions, however, stated that he placed the gelding under pressure at the 500M but it failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and he could not offer any explanation on the disappointing performance. The Stewards took into consideration the margin of 5 ¼ lengths from the winner.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 1
SLTC, Saturday, 25 February 2017

The Stewards informed Trainer C Leck to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding on returning to his stable. Their explanations were noted for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of ARLO revealed no significant finding.

RACE 2 (R266) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

The start of this race was delayed when RUBICON (App AK Lim) proved difficult to be loaded into the barriers. RUBICON will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that RUBICON returned having bled. In terms of MRA Rule 92(3), it will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks of any racecourse for a period of 2 months, be entered for a bleeder’s test for a period of 3 months, start in any race for a period of 3 months after such declaration, and then only after passing the bleeder’s test.

MY BEAUTY (App T Krisna) which dislodged its rider en route to the start, was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

Upon jumping, BAIL OUT (HK Cheng) reared high in the air and as a result, was slow to begin. When questioned, Jockey HK Cheng reported that his horse was in the barrier for too long and this may have contributed to this incident.

CIVIL UNION (A Nawawi) and BAIL OUT both raced wide throughout the event.

Q NINE MAC (HS Gill) had a tendency to lay outwards approaching the front straight on the run to the finish.

Shortly after entering the front straight, ACME (S Ruzaini) had to be severely checked by its rider when the gelding had a tendency to lay outwards over the heels of MY BEAUTY which rolled in marginally and as a result, lost ground.

Over the concluding stages of the event, JERAM GLORY (M Ganeesh) laid in under pressure.

The Stewards questioned Jockey HS Gill into the performance of Q NINE MAC in this event. Jockey HS Gill reported that after beginning well and over-racing, he found himself leading the event. Jockey HS Gill further stated that the gelding continued to have a tendency to lay outwards and over-raced, and he placed the gelding under pressure but it failed to respond to his riding. He further explained that carrying a heavy weight may have contributed to the disappointing performance of the gelding.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 2
SLTC, Saturday, 25 February 2017

After viewing the official patrol films of the gelding’s previous race starts, the Stewards were satisfied with the explanations given and noted his comments for future reference.

RACE 3 (R267) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GREY IS POWER (App AK Lim) began awkwardly.

EAGLE SOAR (App T Krisna) and RAINBOW CENTRE (App SU Lim) were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

JUST DUIT which was beaten 21 lengths and GHOST ACE which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Trainer A Scott and Jockey S Ruzaini into the tactics that would be adopted on CLAIM in this event. Trainer A Scott reported that her instructions would be to try and gain a midfield position, and this was confirmed from the Trainer’s Instruction Form. She further stated that Jockey S Ruzaini must try to shift outwards in the home straight in order to gain a clear run as in her opinion, the gelding is better suited to be ridden in this manner. Jockey S Ruzaini stated the he was having his 2nd start on the gelding and he was fully aware of all the instructions given.

Following the running of the event, the Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini into the tactics that were adopted on CLAIM as the concern of the Stewards was that in their opinion, Jockey S Ruzaini may have been able to shift out sooner in the home straight in an endeavour to gain a clear run to gain the best possible placing. He further stated that shortly after entering the front straight, he shifted outwards and rode hands and heels as he was instructed by the Trainer, however, it failed to respond to his riding and he commenced to use the whip sparingly and the gelding ran home okay.

The Stewards questioned Trainer A Scott into the tactics that were adopted on CLAIM in particular in relation to the change of instructions to be midfield rather than be on the pace as it has previously been in its previous starts. Trainer A Scott explained that in its previous race starts, CLAIM has been in weaker company and was satisfied with Jockey S Ruzaini’s ride on the gelding as he rode it to her instructions. She further stated that this horse is not an easy horse to ride and its normal rider, Jockey Y Aify is currently under suspension.

The Stewards were satisfied with their explanations and noted their comments for future reference.

Over the final 200M of the event, SOON I WILL (App S Uzair) shifted outwards abruptly and finished wide on the track.

Upon returning to scales, Jockey S Salee, the rider of MR VICTORY, reported that his whip broke during running.

After taking extensive evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer A Scott on the tactics that were adopted on TAUBOSS, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry at a date to be fixed.

RACE 5 (R269) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Shortly after the start, BIRRALEE ROAD had to be eased off the heels of D’GREAT LEGION (J Low) when D’ GREAT LEGION shifted inwards.

RUSSELL THE CROWE (App S Zulfikri) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 4
SLTC, Saturday, 25 February 2017

Approaching the 300M, ONE FOR ALL (D Chong) shifted inwards resulting in BIRRALEE ROAD being tightened in onto DEKATI (M Ganeesh). Jockey D Chong was shown the official patrol films of the incident and was reminded of his obligations.

D’ GREAT LEGION had a tendency to lay outwards under pressure.

Upon returning to scales, App S Uzair, the rider of BIRRALEE ROAD, reported that his whip broke during running.

The Stewards questioned B Trainer Siva Kumar s/o Subramaniam, in the presence of Trainer PS Kumaran, into the tactics that were adopted on RUSSELL THE CROWE in the event. The Stewards took into consideration that the Trainer’s Instruction Form which was duly signed by both parties, stated that the gelding was to be ridden in mid-to-back position, however, on this occasion, the horse was found to be contesting for lead throughout the event.

When questioned, B Trainer Siva Kumar stated that it was a mistake on his behalf as he did change his instructions that were given to the Jockey. He believed that from a good barrier, to try and race in a forward position as was the case. The Stewards informed B Trainer Siva Kumar in the strongest term that in future should he wish to change his instructions, he should inform the Stewards prior to the race.Trainer PS Kumaran agreed with the Stewards’ observations and believed that it was not intentional on this occasion. The Stewards did not take any action, however, a warning was issued.

The Steward questioned Jockey J Low and Trainer R Lines into the performance of D’ GREAT LEGION in particular in the home straight of this event. Jockey J Low explained that approaching the 300M, he had to momentarily shift off the heels of TILSWORTH MALI (S Ruzaini) which rolled in marginally and shortly after this incident, was disappointed for a run between TILSWORTH MALI and LUCKY SIXTYSIX (S Sandana) and as a result, had to shift wider on the track to gain a clear run and lost valuable ground.

Trainer R Lines agreed with his rider’s explanation. The Stewards were satisfied as it was confirmed with the official patrol films and noted their comments for future reference.

STREET CHAMP (C Goon) was very slow to begin.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 5
SLTC, Saturday, 25 February 2017

ANGEL OF MINE (App A Zaimuddin) jumped awkwardly.

ANGEL OF MINE had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and had to be eased off runners in front and as a result, got its head up and raced ungenerously.

STREET CHAMP was caught racing wide in the early stages before progressing forward and gaining a position behind runners at the 900M.

ANGEL OF MINE which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Trainer C Leck and Jockey C Goon into the reasons why STREET CHAMP was slow to begin. Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding has shown a habit of beginning slowly and was endeavouring to rectify the problem. Jockey C Goon confirmed this.

After viewing the official patrol films in particular the inside barrier cameras, the Stewards were satisfied with their explanations and noted their comments for future reference.

This race was run in heavy rain.

TAKE A BOW (HK Cheng) dislodged its rider behind the barriers, was apprehended, examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

Upon jumping, WINGED FOOT (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin and shifted inwards abruptly towards the running rail resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and as a result, trailed the field in the early stages. WINGED FOOT will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

CRESCENDO and TAKE A BOW both raced wide in the middle stages.

Approaching the 900M, LIM’S CHARGE (App A Zaimuddin) rolled inwards resulting in BLOOD ROYAL (J Low) having to be eased by its rider.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 6
SLTC, Saturday, 25 February 2017

Over the final 400M, WINGED FOOT shifted out under pressure and finished very wide on the track.

Approaching the 200M, when being struck with the whip, D’GREAT SURPRISE (Lou Ho) shifted inwards abruptly for some distance which resulted in the rider becoming unbalanced when attempting to straighten the gelding. This resulted in severe contact which inconvenienced LIM’S MISSION (HS Gill) which in turn was taken towards the running rail and had to be severely checked by its rider. After taking evidence from Jockey Lou Ho and in view of the gelding’s racing manners, D’GREAT SURPRISE will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

CRESCENDO which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1 to 1 1/2kgs overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

As Trainer L Moy had left the course, the Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the bit being incorrectly fitted on TAKE A BOW upon arriving at the barriers.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 2 (R173) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 4 FEBRUARY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 21 February 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the tactics that were adopted on ELEGENT in the above race.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 7
SLTC, Saturday, 25 February 2017

After taking evidence from Jockey Y Aify, the rider of ELEGENT, and Trainer Anna Scott, the Trainer of ELEGENT, and after viewing the official patrol films in particular the gelding’s previous race starts, the Stewards, acting on their own observations, found Jockey Y Aify guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding ELEGENT in the above race, shortly after entering the home straight at approximately the 350M mark, Jockey Y Aify failed to shift ELEGENT outwards to gain a clear run when the opportunity presented itself and he elected to stay to the inside where in the opinion of the Stewards, was detrimental to his chances of gaining the best possible placing in the field. The Stewards were also not satisfied that Jockey Y Aify showed his normal riding style and displayed sufficient vigour between the 350M to the 150M where the horse ran home well into 5th placing beaten by a margin of 3 lengths from the winner.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s mitigating factors, the betting market as ELEGENT was one of the favourites in the event, his previous riding record and submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 22 February 2017 and to expire on 21 May 2017, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with his current suspension. He was also fined RM20,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (12:15pm).

Jockey Y Aify subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of three (3) months and fine of RM20,000/- will be held at a date to be fixed.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Michael Castillo (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R274) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SEA MASTER (J De Souza) which cast its near fore plate behind the barriers, was replated, examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

FULL MEANING (Lou Ho) jumped inwards and inconvenienced LITTLE JUMBO (App AK Lim).

GRANDE AFFARE (App S Zulfikri) reared as the gates opened and was slow to begin. After viewing the barrier cameras, the Stewards were satisfied that the gelding became fractious prior to the gates opening and reared upon jumping.

SPARKLER (App CK Khaw) jumped awkwardly.

FULL MEANING had a tendency to over-race in the early stages despite the efforts of its rider, got its head up and raced ungenerously.

SEA MASTER, ELEGENT (M Ganeesh) and FULL MEANING were all caught racing wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 1100M, CHINO DIABLO (App SU Lim) had to be eased by its rider to avoid the heels of ABOVE THE MILLION (C Goon).

Approaching the 300M, VALBERRY (App M Hanif) was held up for a clear run behind SUPER GOOD (S Ruzaini) and had to shift out over that gelding’s heels to gain a clear run. Shortly after this incident, VALBERRY was placed in restricted racing room in between SUPER GOOD and SEA MASTER.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 1
SLTC, Sunday, 26 February 2017

FULL MEANING had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider from the 400M and approaching the 300M, inconvenienced ELEGENT. Approaching the 200M, FULL MEANING had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider and again momentarily inconvenienced SEA MASTER.

The right side winker of SEA MASTER became undone at approximately the 200M.

Approaching the 100M, ACE SURPRISE (SS Vanan) had to shift out to gain a clear run over the heels of ELEGENT which had a tendency to lay inwards and ran home well.

The Stewards questioned Trainer F Maynard into the improved performance of FULL MEANING given the gelding’s previous race starts. Trainer F Maynard explained that in his opinion, the rain-affected track, although “yielding”, suited the gelding. He further stated that it had just returned from a wind operation and had worked well throughout the week and expected an improved performance. The Stewards accepted Trainer F Maynard’s explanation and he was reminded of his obligations in relation to the Rules regarding in and out running.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 2
SLTC, Sunday, 26 February 2017

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, App L De Souza pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards from approximately the 300M to the winning post with sufficient vigour to gain the best possible placing.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App L De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. The Stewards, in not issuing a more severe penalty, also took into consideration that he has a limited race riding experience. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App L De Souza’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 5 March 2017 and to expire on 3 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was also advised that he must complete a series of trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to riding in races again. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:40pm).

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini and Trainer A Scott into the disappointing performance of PERFECTLY PERFECT in today’s event. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that after jumping well, he was able to gain a good midfield position, however, commenced to try and improve his position from the 1000M mark but the mare failed to respond to his riding despite his urging throughout the event. He also stated that he could not offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of the mare.

RACE 2 (R275) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 26 FEBRUARY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2017

The Stewards questioned App L De Souza, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, into the tactics that were adopted on PERFECT RUN in the home straight in particular why App L De Souza failed to show any vigour in his riding style over the final 300M.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 5 March 2017 and to expire on 4 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was also advised that he must complete a series of trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to riding in races again. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:40pm).

YOU NEVER KNOW (App A Zaimuddin) and ROCK AND STONE (S Sandana) both jumped awkwardly.

BAIL OUT (HK Cheng) was caught racing wide from a wide barrier.

Jockey A Nawawi, the rider of CIVIL UNION, reported that his horse did not handle the going.

BAIL OUT which was beaten 30 1/4 lengths and ROCK AND STONE which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Lou Ho, the rider of I’M KOOL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of THUNDER KING (App T Krisna) which was placed in restricted racing room to the outside of YOU NEVER KNOW. As a result of this incident, THUNDER KING clipped the heels of I’M KOOL, blundered and lost its position. As a result of this incident, FLEDGELING (App SU Lim) which was following, shied away from THUNDER KING and inconvenienced ROCK AND STONE (S Sandana) which lost ground.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Lou Ho’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey Lou Ho’s suspension. SEA HORIZON (App T Krisna) reared as the start was effected.

LIM’S RANGER (Lou Ho) had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages.

ACME (SS Vanan) made the turn awkwardly at the 1000M and shifted outwards abruptly.

CLAIM (S Ruzaini) raced 4-wide throughout the event.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 2
SLTC, Saturday, 25 March 2017

Approaching the 500M, LIM’S RANGER seemed to dip on a number of occasions resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced.

Approaching the 150M, D’GREAT VICTORY (App WK Lee) had a tendency to lay outwards under pressure resulting in ACME having to shift inwards to gain clear running and avoid that gelding’s heels.

The Stewards questioned Trainer A Scott and Jockey S Ruzaini into the disappointing performance of the favourite, CLAIM. Jockey S Ruzaini stated that from the wide Barrier 10 and jumping well to gain a midfield trailing position, he placed the gelding under pressure to improve his position at the 800M but it failed to respond to his riding. He further stated that he believed today’s 58 ½ kgs and the “yielding” going may have contributed to the disappointing performance. Trainer A Scott was of the opinion that weight, track condition and the rail out may have contributed to the gelding’s disappointing performance and could not offer any further explanation.

The Stewards, after reviewing the films, noted their comments for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of CLAIM revealed no significant finding. The gelding was impounded.

The Stewards questioned Jockey Lou Ho into the tactics that were adopted on LIM’S RANGER. The Stewards were concerned with his lack of vigour which was shown over the final 300M of the event. Jockey Lou Ho explained that the mare had a tendency to lay inwards despite his efforts to correct it and as a result, attempted to change his whip to his left hand to try and rectify the problem. He further added that he was not a strong left-hand whip rider and for this reason, he elected to ride hands and heels after testing the mare on 3 occasions with the whip, the mare ran home well. He further stated that it was having its first start in Malaysia.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films and acting on their own observations, were not fully satisfied with his explanations, however, gave Jockey Lou Ho a “benefit of the doubt” on this occasion and would be monitoring him in future race starts. The Stewards noted his comments for future reference.

Shortly after the start, when attempting to improve its position, App WK Lee, the rider of HAPPY EDDINGTON, accidentally dropped his whip. The Stewards took into consideration that this is his first offense. He was warned that a repetition of dropping the whip in future may lead to a monetary penalty being imposed.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of METEOR GARDEN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of NINE POINT (D Chong) resulting in that horse having to be severely checked and lost its position.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. RACE 8 (R392) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons why EASTERN TOWKAY (J Low) had to be severely checked by its rider at the 1000M. The Stewards took evidence from App M Hanif, the rider of KABALI, in the presence of his Master, Trainer LN Danis, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of ELF’S DREAM, and Jockey J Low, the rider of

EASTERN TOWKAY.

It was established that approaching the 1000M, EASTERN TOWKAY which had a tendency to over-race and shift outwards, made contact with KABALI which was racing on its outside on several occasions and as a result, was placed in restricted racing room and tightened on the running rail. It was also noted that ELF’S DREAM did have a tendency to

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 4
SLTC, Sunday, 26 March 2017

lay inwards at this stage which contributed to this incident, however, Jockey J De Souza did attempt to alleviate the pressure by turning his horse’s head outwards.

The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol film, could not blame any rider for this incident, however all riders were reminded of their obligations under similar circumstances in future.

RACE 6 (R390) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Low into the tactics that were adopted on GOLIATH in particular why he shifted from a position 4-back on the rail to race 4 wide at the 1000M.

Jockey J Low reported that his instructions were to make sure the gelding raced in clear room as in its previous start, it did not perform and the stable was attempting to improve its performance by trying something different with the gelding. He further stated that he placed the gelding under pressure from the 800M, however, it failed to respond to his riding. He also informed the Stewards that he advised the connections and Trainer to delete the horse. The Stewards noted his comments for future reference.

………………………….

RACE 8 (R392) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

The Stewards questioned Trainer C Leck into the improved performance of YOU DA ONE (D Chong). He stated that in his opinion, the gelding was suited by the “yielding” track conditions and the 1400M distance. He also was of the opinion that the gelding was given an opportunity of a “soft” lead sectional times in the race while racing in front and had kept him fresh, which may have contributed to the improved performance of the gelding. He also added that there was some support from the connections and stable.

The Stewards noted his comments for future reference and warned him in terms of MRA Rule 117(3) regarding inconsistent and unreliable running.

At the 400M, ACE SURPRISE shifted out to gain clear running and ran home strongly.

Approaching 300M, CHATEAUNEUF DUPAPE shifted in and as a result, BLACK AHEAD was taken in onto LITTLE JUMBO (App SU Lim).

MR EPIC (D Chong) had a tendency to lay in from the 200M resulting in the rider having to be straightened and ran home strongly.

Upon returning to scales, Jockey S Anandan, the rider of GHOST ACE, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout the race. GHOST ACE which distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey D Chong into the tactics that were adopted on MR EPIC throughout the event. Jockey D Chong reported that his instructions were to try and gain a midfield position, however, informed the Stewards that prior to mounting the gelding, he was informed to try and be in a more handy position.

Jockey D Chong reported that after beginning well from a wide barrier, he attempted to improve his position, however, it failed to respond to his riding and as a result, found himself further back than he had anticipated. Jockey D Chong stated that he placed the gelding under pressure shortly after entering the front straight where it ran home strongly into 3rd position.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films, advised Jockey D Chong that in future he would be expected try and improve his position in the middle stages in an endeavour to get closer to the leaders and he would have been able to finish better than 3 ½ lengths. NOVA GENERAL (App A Zaimuddin) reared as the gates opened upon jumping.

MASTER OF SUCCESS (App S Saddam) shifted outwards and bumped STEERING (Lou Ho) and as a result, STEERING, having received the bump, shifted outwards and inconvenienced NOVA DASHING (App WK Lee) and RUSH-MORE (J Shankar).

Making the turn at the 1000M, WAWA MASTER (M Zairi) which was over-racing, had to be eased off the heels of SEMIFREDDO (S Ruzaini) which rolled in at this point.

NOVA DASHING had a tendency to over-race at the rear of the field and had to be continuously checked off the heels of runners in front.

Approaching the 200M, RUSH-MORE had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure when being struck with the whip.

Leaving the 200M, STEERING rolled in marginally and as a result, NOVA GENERAL shifted in and away from that gelding and brushed the running rail resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced and losing some ground.

Upon returning to scales, App WK Lee, the rider of NOVA DASHING, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout the race. NOVA DASHING which was beaten 21 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Jockey M Ganeesh stated that at this point, he had to gather his reins in an endeavour to shift outwards to gain a clear run and as a result, lost minimum momentum, however, once in the clear, the gelding ran home well. He also added that GREENSTONE may have suited further distance than today’s 1400M.

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of DANCING TSURU, into the reasons why he appeared to lose some ground at approximately the 1000M mark. Jockey S Ruzaini stated that he had pressure from TAKEAIM (App A Zaimuddin) from his outside and as a result, had to check his horse and lost ground.

The Stewards, after reviewing the official patrol films, were of the opinion that approaching the 1000M, MOGAN’S PRIDE (HK Cheng) had a tendency to lay inwards resulting in TAKEAIM being taken inwards which placed DANCING TSURU and HAPPY EDDINGTON (J Shankar) in restricted racing room and as a result, DANCING TSURU lost some ground. It was also noted that DANCING TSURU ran home well into third position.

The Stewards could not blame any rider for this incident, however, Jockey HK Cheng was shown the official patrol films of the incident and reminded of his obligation to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

SEA WORLD (J Low) reared as the gates opened.

PERFECT ATTACK (D Chong) had a tendency to over-race in the early stages.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 5
SLTC, Saturday, 1 April 2017

GHOST HANA (App A Zaimuddin), SEA WORLD and THE OMEGA MAN (F Yap) were all caught racing wide throughout the event from wide barriers.

Approaching the 900M, GHOST EMPEROR (Lou Ho) had to be eased off the heels of FORTUNIQUE (L Sofhan) and shifted out to gain a clear run.

PERFECT PEARL (J Shankar) was held up for a clear run entering the front straight behind runners in front and had to be eased by its rider.

Approaching the 350M, CRAZY CLUB (App S Saddam) shifted out to obtain a clear run over the heels of MR ARMSTRONG (TK Barnabas).

Approaching the 300M, LISTEN (App S Zulfikri) shifted in several horses when ridden along with the whip and as a result, SEA WORLD had to be severely checked by its rider and JUSTICE WORLD (S Ruzaini) was inconvenienced.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Zulfikri, the rider of LISTEN, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer M Sukri, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 200M when being ridden forward with the whip, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of SEA WORLD (J Low) resulting in Jockey J Low having to severely check his mount. JUSTICE WORLD was also inconvenienced in this incident.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Zulfikri’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 3 April 2017 and to expire on 9 April 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:15pm).

Approaching the 150M, CRAZY CLUB (App S Saddam) had a tendency to lay outwards and as a result, MR ARMSTRONG had to be eased off that gelding’s heels. Jockey TK Barnabas, the rider of MR ARMSTRONG, was reprimanded for unnecessarily striking his horse forward of the shoulder.

SLTC, Saturday, 1 April 2017

LITTLE LION (App A Zaimuddin) was held up for a clear run in the early part of the home straight behind runners in front.

Leaving the 300M, KEEPER’S PRINCESS (App WK Lee) was placed in restricted room when NO MONEY NO TALK (D Chong) shifted in under pressure and as a result, KEEPER’S PRINCESS had to shift out from that gelding’s heels in order to gain a clear run.

CRESCENDO which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Shankar, the rider of JP SUMMER, into the reasons why he failed to ride his mount out with the required vigour from the 200M. He stated that he placed the gelding under pressure from the 500M but it failed to respond to his riding and after leaving the 200M, the horse was flat and in his opinion, he did not want to punish the horse.

The Stewards advised Jockey J Shankar that the minimum requirement that is expected by the Stewards is at least hands and heels unless he feels that there may have been something amiss with the gelding. The Stewards did not take any action on this occasion, however, reminded him of his obligations.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey C Goon, the rider of V FOR THAILAND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at approximately the 800M, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of MAGIC RANGER (App S Saddam) which was taken in onto ALL SILVER (J Shankar) which had to be severely checked by its rider.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Goon’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 27 March 2017 and to expire on 8 April 2017, both dates inclusive. Prior to the running of the first event, the Stewards called the Club Doctor for his opinion on a report submitted by Jockey J De Souza in relation to a course of medication taken by him over the last several days. The Club Doctor informed the Stewards that the medication given to Jockey J De Souza contained several prohibited substances and was concerned for his safety whilst mounted on a horse given some side effects from this type of medication.

The Stewards advised Jockey J De Souza that for this reason, he was stood down from fulfilling his riding engagements at today’s meeting and a clearance certificate must be tendered prior to riding trackwork and races.

RACE 9 (R393) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 25 MARCH 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2017

The Stewards questioned Jockey Lou Ho into the riding tactics that were adopted on ESPERANZA in particular in the home straight as in the opinion of the Stewards, Jockey Lou Ho failed to show sufficient vigour from the 400M as expected.

Jockey Lou Ho stated that racing to the 1000M, the gelding had a tendency to over-race and as a result, had to shift out to gain clear racing room and found himself 4-wide for the remainder part of the event and he believed that he placed the gelding under pressure but it failed to respond to his riding. Jockey Lou Ho agreed with the Stewards’ observations that he may have been able to show a bit more vigour than he did on this occasion.

The Stewards, after giving consideration to the run that ESPERANZA had throughout the event and given the track conditions, did not take any action against Jockey Lou Ho, however, informed him that the Stewards expected him to show far greater effort than he did on this occasion. A warning was issued.

The Stewards were unable to blame any particular rider for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

The Stewards questioned Jockey HS Gill into TWODOLLARMUPPET’S performance today. He stated that his instructions were to be mid-to-back and he decided to settle it back when the gelding showed no early pace. He said that it travelled well and he commenced to improve from the 600M and on entering the straight, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and finished the race off fairly.

RACE 5 (R609) CLASS 4 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 13 MAY 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on Friday, 26 May 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of ARC CARA and took further evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and Trainer of ARC CARA respectively.

Trainer S Dunderdale’s evidence was noted.

After reviewing the films and considering the evidence tendered, Jockey M Ganeesh was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

1. from the 300M to the 150M, in the Stewards opinion, he showed no initiative or purpose to obtain a clear run; and

2. at the 100M when the clear run was available to the gelding, he hesitated and failed to use sufficient vigour for some distance.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey M Ganeesh’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months with effect from 28 May 2017 and to expire on 27 September 2017, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM20,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (11:55am).

The Stewards, on Friday, 26 May 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of DIRAC and took further evidence from Jockey J Shankar and Trainer F Maynard, the rider and Trainer of DIRAC respectively.

Trainer F Maynard explained that his instructions were to be mid-to-back and he was satisfied with Jockey J Shankar’s ride. Trainer F Maynard’s explanation was noted.

Jockey J Shankar explained that he carried out his instructions but felt that the gelding was not travelling well and at the 800M, he used the whip on several occasions and again at the 600M, however, when DIRAC failed to respond to his riding, he elected to use his whip in the left hand in the straight in an effort to get the gelding to finish the race. Jockey J Shankar’s explanation was noted but he was warned to ride all his horses out in such a manner so as to leave no room for query, in particular on this occasion, his use of the whip.
