RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN (J Mallyon) jumped awkwardly and commenced to race greenly in the first 400M.

IMMORTALITY (App S Zulfikri) was outpaced for the first half of the race.

Rounding the bend at about the 500M, GERMANIC (HS Gill) laid out around the bend causing RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN to be taken wide.

At about the 200M, RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN was disappointed for a run as D’GREAT ERA (App KC Wong) laid out slightly under pressure and thereafter RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN raced awkwardly and ungenerously, and was inclined to lay in behind other horses.

LIM’S ADMIRAL (App WK Lee) laid out when tiring in the last 200M.

At about the 150M, TRIPLE ONE STAR (J De Souza) was switched out to obtain clear running, causing AUD DOLLAR (H Bukhari) to be taken out. After taking evidence from Jockey J De Souza and reviewing the film of the incident, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey J De Souza and warned him that he would be expected to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

The Stewards questioned Trainer SB Tan and Jockey H Bukhari, the Trainer and rider of AUD DOLLAR respectively, into the mare’s performance. In response to the observations that different tactics were employed today as compared to the 1st of October 2017 when AUD DOLLAR had led from the start and finished second, Trainer SB Tan replied that he felt the mare had run away with her Apprentice rider on that occasion. Jockey H Bukhari added that in his opinion, the mare was well suited to the racing pattern employed today, and would have finished closer but for interference in the straight. Trainer SB Tan stated that with hindsight, AUD DOLLAR would be better suited by racing over 1400M and that he would try to start her over that distance next time.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2017

SATURDAY, 21 OCTOBER 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1324)       CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer L Moy was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on BOWEN BOY.

Approaching the first bend at about the 1000M, DETERMINE TO WIN (C Goon) took a precautionary check, causing WILL BE BETTER (App AK Lim) to check off its heels which in turn caused FIORELLA (SU Lim) to check off WILL BE BETTER’s heels. At the same time, JOE SWIPER (App KC Wong) rolled in slightly, causing the rider to check and correct which led to a brush with ROCK AND STONE (App S Saddam).

After reviewing the films of the incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 250M, FIORELLA was forced to switch out to obtain a clear run.

At the 150M, JOE SWIPER (App KC Wong) commenced to lay out under pressure.

The Stewards questioned Trainer LN Danis into the performance of MILITARY STAR (Y Narredu). Trainer LN Danis explained that he had instructed his rider to be handy, but to take the lead if it was easily available, however in hindsight he felt that MILITARY STAR was unsuited for having to compete for the lead in what turned out to be a fast run race.

Jockey Y Narredu stated that he got to the lead easily but thereafter was harassed by MYSTIC WARRIOR (App AM Aizat) and that MILITARY STAR was never able to relax as a consequence. A post-race veterinary examination of MILITARY STAR revealed no significant finding.

 RACE 6 (R1329)       MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

HK DOLLAR (TK Barnabas) was slow into stride.

At about the 1000M, D’GREAT EMPRESS (HK Cheng) which was leading, raced greenly approaching the bend causing WHAT IFF (R Woodworth) to check off its heels. In doing so, WHAT IFF shifted in causing POKEMON BABY (App S Saddam), SHARON’S STAR (App M Hanif) and LISBOA STAR (J De Souza) to be crowded approaching the bend. CRESCENDO (L Sofhan) was forced to check off the heels of LISBOA STAR as a result of this incident. After reviewing the films of the incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

TEDDY BEAR (H Bukhari) raced awkwardly and ungenerously in rear until the straight.

At about the 300M, POKEMON BABY commenced to lay in under pressure causing HAPPY DAYZ (S Anandan) to be tightened against the rail and D’GREAT EMPRESS (HK Cheng) to check sharply and switch out to avoid the heels of HAPPY DAYZ. D’GREAT EMPRESS was unbalanced by this incident and shifted out causing SKYHAWK (SU Lim) being forced to take evasive action.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Saddam, the rider of POKEMON BABY, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer PS Kumaran, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to drift towards the rail at about the 300M without taking sufficient corrective measures.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Saddam’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 23 October 2017 and to expire on 5 November 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:05pm).

TARZAN (App W Faizal) became outpaced at about the 1000M.

NANA (J Mallyon) raced ungenerously in the first half of the race, got behind and was forced to switch very wide in the straight.

POWERFUL FIGHTER (J De Souza) shifted out under pressure in the straight.

At about the 400M, PERFECT RUN (App L De Souza) shifted slightly out under pressure causing PICASSO (H Bukhari) to be tightened between PERFECT RUN and PERFECT PEARL (HS Gill).

Between the 350M and the 300M, CHIPS shifted in under pressure causing App KC Wong to steady in order to correct and straighten his mount.

RAINBOW FISH (F Yap) reared leaving the stalls and was slowly away.

RAINBOW STAR (Y Narredu) was slow to find its stride and was forced to take a wide position.

The Stewards questioned Trainer F Maynard and App KC Wong regarding the disappointing performance of D’GREAT OPULENT. Trainer F Maynard stated that in his opinion, the horse was a one-paced galloper which prefers a longer distance. App KC Wong made the same observations and added that the horse was laying in under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT OPULENT revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At about the 1000M, FLEDGELING (Lou Ho) rolled in briefly causing PURE RABID (Y Aify) to take a check.

VERGLATICA (SU Lim) was forced to race very wide throughout.

At about the 500M, PURE RABID (Y Aify) shifted out for a clear run and at the same time, SILVER MAN (M Zairi) shifted out causing DUEL OF HONOUR (App KC Wong) to take a check to avoid its heels. STREET CHAMP was forced to take evasive action to avoid the heels of DUEL OF HONOUR. The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into this incident at a date to be fixed.

POLO MASTER (App CK Khaw) was disappointed for a run at about the 450M and at about the 400M, TIME TO SHINE (App S Saddam) shifted out briefly causing POLO MASTER to be taken out and to brush with SATELLITE LEGEND (HK Cheng), thereafter POLO MASTER obtained clear running to the line.

At about the 300M, LIM’S BATTLE (App AM Aizat) shifted out, inconveniencing VERGLATICA. The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into this incident at a date to be fixed.

RACE 5 (R1227) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 1 OCTOBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2017

The Chief Starter reported that NOVA CANO (HS Gill) got loose from the handler, bolted and galloped a considerable distance. The 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test imposed on NOVA CANO was rescinded.

RACE 5 (R1169) METRO A – 1700M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 3 October 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry opened on 17 September 2017 into the running and handling of TRUSON which raced in last place until the home straight where it made modest late ground. Further evidence was taken from Jockey F Yap and Trainer S Cook, the rider and Trainer of TRUSON respectively. Jockey F Yap was assisted by Trainer WC Lim as an interpreter at this inquiry.  Jockey Lou Ho was also called as a witness as he was previously TRUSON’s regular rider.

Trainer S Cook stated that TRUSON has a habit of over-racing and he therefore instructed Jockey F Yap to get the gelding settled with cover before making his effort in the straight.

Jockey F Yap stated that he was able to get TRUSON settled in last place early despite the gelding throwing his head up in response to being restrained. He further stated that the bit was not in full contact with TRUSON’s mount and that he feared that the gelding would run wide if asked to improve his positon. For this reason, he felt unable to take an opportunity to improve on the inside at the 1200M or to make ground on the outside between the 1000M and the 700M resulting in TRUSON getting further back than ideal.

After considering the evidence tendered and reviewing the films, the Stewards decided not to lay a charge under the Rules of Racing. However, the Stewards warned Jockey F Yap that in future he would be expected to ride throughout the race in such a manner so as to leave no room for query regarding his commitment to ensuring that his mounts were well positioned.

BLOSSOMS SEQUEL (App L De Souza) was slowly into stride.

PERFECT PEARL (SS Vanan) was trapped wide and had to race wide in order to obtain a forward position

At the 400M, TIGER BAY (J De Souza) shifted out due to becoming unbalanced causing ONE FOR ALL (App M Hanif) to be taken out. At the 300M, TIGER BAY again shifted marginally out and ONE FOR ALL shied away from the whip of Jockey J De Souza, the rider of TIGER BAY. This in turn caused PERFECT PEARL to be taken to the right, while at the same time, receiving pressure from FLYING NEKO (S Anandan) which laid inwards abruptly. As a result of this, PERFECT PEARL clipped the heels of FLYING NEKO, became unbalanced and lost momentum. AMAZING (F Yap) was forced to take evasive action as a result of this incident.  After reviewing the films of the incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

App P Haris, the rider of SILVER VICTOR, was fined RM1000/- under MRA Rule 121(7) for weighing in 1.1kgs over his declared weight. When questioned, App P Haris, in the presence of his Master, Trainer BT Lim, admitted that he had taken a drink of water after weighing out.

GOLDEN CHOICE (App WK Lee) raced wide until the straight where it laid in under pressure.

LOVE GOES AROUND (C Goon) was slow into stride and was forced to switch very wide to obtain clear running in the straight.

GOOD DEAL (App S Zulfikri) was slow to begin and raced well behind the field until making late ground in the straight. After taking evidence from App S Zulfikri and Trainer SB Tan, the rider and Trainer of GOOD DEAL respectively, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

In the first 100M, there was a brush between AUSSIE EAGLE (G Pereira) and SHARON’S STAR (App M Hanif) which caused SHARON’S STAR to race greenly and throw its head in the air.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of THE JEUNEYMAN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift inwards at about the 1000M, leaving insufficient space for AUSSIE EAGLE (G Pereira) and CHIPS (App KC Wong) to his inside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey Y Aify’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 9 October 2017 and to expire on 15 October 2017, both dates inclusive. D’GREAT LORD (Lou Ho) was slowly into its stride.

SONG KID (App KC Wong) was soon outpaced in rear and never recovered.

Approaching the 400M, on straightening, POKEMON BABY (App AK Lim) became unbalanced and laid out causing HK DOLLAR (H Bukhari) to be taken wide.

At about the 400M, POKEMON BABY shifted in under pressure causing CROWN PRINCE (C Goon) to be short of room and unbalanced.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App AK Lim, the rider of POKEMON BABY, in the presence of his Master, Trainer WC Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 400M mark, he allowed his horse to shift inwards away from the right hand whip causing interference to CROWN PRINCE.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AK Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 2 October 2017 and to expire on 8 October 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4:35pm).

At the 200M, POKEMON BABY again shifted in slightly as GAIN ECLIPSE (Y Aify) shifted out slightly causing CROWN PRINCE to be crowded between them.

D’GREAT LORD which was beaten 24 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

App W Faizal, the rider of BRILLIANT STAR, eased his mount in the last few strides. The Stewards reprimanded App W Faizal, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy, and reminded him of his obligations in terms of MRA Rule 44(6) to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 7 (R1171) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B), SUNDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 27 September 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into an incident where App S Zulfikri had his feet out of the irons and never regained them at any stage during the above race. Further evidence was taken from App S Zulfikri, the rider of BANKERS CALL, in the presence of his Acting Master, B Trainer Siva Kumar s/o Subramaniam, B Trainer Teh Ming Wan, the representative of Trainer SB Tan, the Trainer of BANKERS CALL, App W Faizal, the rider of COLIN THE FIRTH, Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of KEEPITCONFIDENTIAL, Dr Silamban Subbarao (Chief Starter), Dr Dasarathurao Seeta Ramaiah (Assistant Starter) and Dr Shri Kanth (Senior Veterinary Surgeon).

After considering the evidence tendered and reviewing the various angles of the films including the barrier cameras, the Stewards decided to take no further action but warned App S Zulfikri that in future he must communicate clearly to the Starter if he is not ready. However, having heard conflicting accounts from the various witnesses, the Stewards gave App S Zulfikri the benefit of the doubt on this occasion. The Stewards further accepted App S Zulfikri’s explanation that having left the barrier without his feet in the irons, he tried to make the best of a bad situation in the race itself.

RACE 3 (R1167) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 27 September 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of PERFECT PEARL in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey SS Vanan and Trainer L Moy, the rider and Trainer of PERFECT PEARL respectively.

Jockey SS Vanan pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

He urged PERFECT PEARL into a six length lead in the first 200M, contrary to the Trainer’s instructions.

  1. He took insufficient steps to check how far back his rivals were throughout the first half of the race.
  2. In the first half of the race, he allowed PERFECT PEARL to race at an overly fast pace which it had no hope of maintaining, resulting in the gelding tiring badly.
  3. He made no attempt to give PERFECT PEARL a breather at any stage despite being 10 lengths clear at the 800M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SS Vanan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey SS Vanan’s suspension at his request. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of 4 months with effect from 2 October 2017 and to expire on 1 February 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:50pm).

Jockey SS Vanan subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was allowed. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

TUESDAY, 26 SEPTEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB

RESUME RIDING: APP P HARIS

The Stewards granted permission for App P Haris to resume riding as his suspension expired on 25 September 2017.

RACE 2 (R1138)       CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

The saddle on BLACK THORN (S Anandan) and the tongue-tie on SUPER BONUS (G Pereira) were readjusted behind the barriers.

D’GREAT WALL (SU Lim) was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to race.

D’GREAT WALL was fractious in the barrier and jumped away awkwardly.

CHAMPAGNE ROSE (F Yap) and SURPRISE SURPRISE (App W Faizal) were both slow into stride.

DRAGON WALK (J De Souza) was unable to obtain cover and raced wide in the early part of the race.

Racing to the 300M, BLACK THORN raced greenly resulting in LIM’S RANGER (App A Zaimuddin) having to be steadied to obtain a clear run. BLACK THORN continued to race greenly at about the 200M resulting in Jockey S Anandan having to stop riding momentarily to straighten the gelding.

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines and Jockey J De Souza into the disappointing performance of DRAGON WALK. Trainer R Lines stated that his instructions were to be handy to midfield and this was confirmed from the Trainer’s Instruction Form. He explained that from Barrier 12, DRAGON WALK was unable to secure a forward position with cover causing the gelding to over-race and weaken badly in the straight as a consequence. He further stated that DRAGON WALK has been working well and could not offer any further explanation on the disappointing performance. Jockey J De Souza made similar comments.

The Stewards informed Trainer R Lines to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding on returning to his stable. The Stewards noted their explanations.

FLIGHT OFTHE SAKER (TK Barnabas) was slow to begin.

LIM’S INVINCIBLE (App A Zaimuddin) jumped away awkwardly.

METEOR GARDEN (S Anandan) was slow into stride.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, App L De Souza, the rider of D’GREAT RICH, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(6) in that he failed to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The particulars of the charge were that in the last 30M, he rode with insufficient vigour. App L De Souza admitted to the Stewards that he was unaware of SPLENDOR (App W Faizal) closing on his inside. He was fined RM2000/- and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

GAZOO (L Sofhan) stood still as the barriers opened and was slow to begin.

DELTA WING (G Pereira) was slowly into stride.

App S Zulfikri, the rider of SPIN FIRE, reported that at about the 100M mark, he switched his whip to his left hand and shortly afterwards, dropped his whip when it was knocked by contact with the whip of App A Zaimuddin, the rider of NOVA ACE.

The Stewards questioned Jockey L Sofhan and Trainer LN Danis into the disappointing performance of GAZOO. Jockey L Sofhan stated that the horse had a tendency to go to sleep in the barrier if left in more than a short period of time as it was today. He further stated that after a slow start, the horse raced lazily and he was able to make only moderate progress from the rear division in the straight.

Trainer LN Danis added that he had requested GAZOO to be loaded last but due to the misbehavior of SPIN FIRE, GAZOO had, in fact, been loaded second last. The Stewards noted their explanations.

DIRAC (SU Lim) raced wide throughout without cover.

EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC (C Goon) was out-paced between the 800M and the 400M, and lost its position. The Stewards questioned Jockey C Goon, the rider of EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC, who stated that he tried his best to gain a handy position but was unable to do so and found himself in the middle of the pack. He was then forced to check and switch out inside the 400M to avoid running onto the heels of SPADE OF ACE (App AK Lim). After that, EQUALLY OPTIMISTIC proved one-paced in the concluding stages. FORTUNIQUE (Y Aify) was very slow to begin.

LEE BANK (App S Zulfikri) fly-jumped leaving the stalls, raced awkwardly throughout and hung to the outside throughout the race.

TAFFETAS (J De Souza) was briefly eased at the 500M as US DOLLAR (S Anandan) rolled in, had to be switched out repeatedly in the straight to obtain clear running.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri and App S Zulfikri into the performance of LEE BANK. Trainer M Sukri explained that the gelding had a tendency to get onto the wrong lead leg around the bend and hung to the outside. App S Zulfikri stated that LEE BANK was tractable in the straight but proved impossible to handle around the bend. As a consequence of this, LEE BANK will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for a having poor performance. The Stewards informed Trainer M Sukri that he should carefully consider whether it is appropriate to use an Apprentice Jockey on a horse with such awkward racing manners.

MAGICAL TALENT (App L De Souza) was slow to begin.

BATTLE KING (M Zairi) was slowly into stride, raced poorly and finished tailed out. Jockey M Zairi reported that his horse’s bit had slipped through its mouth. In view of the gelding’s poor performance and its long absence from the track before this race, BATTLE KING which was beaten 19 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Approaching the 200M, CLIP THE TICKET (SU Lim) switched out when insufficiently clear which caused MAGICAL TALENT to be taken out to the right onto IDEAL GUIDE (J De Souza).

When attempting to find clear running at about the 200M, ONE FOR ALL (App M Hanif) ran onto the heels of SATELLITE BOY (App AK Lim) causing App AK Lim to switch sharply to the outside. Thereafter ONE FOR ALL finished the race wide.

TAKEAIM was disappointed for a run and switched in at about the 200M.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding of CLIP THE TICKET which finished unplaced. After taking evidence from Jockey SU Lim and Trainer F Maynard, the rider and Trainer of CLIP THE TICKET respectively, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

An inquiry into the whip use of Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of GIBRALTAR PARK, will be held at a date to be fixed.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of LORD OF SHANGHAI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 300M in this race, he switched out for a clear run when insufficiently clear of IDEAL GUIDE (J De Souza) causing that horse to be checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey L Sofhan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey L Sofhan’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 18 September 2017 and to expire on 24 September 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:50pm).

JUBILATION (M Zairi) got cast in the barrier. Acting on veterinary advice that JUBILATION had sustained injury to both of its hind and off fore legs, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 5:05pm. The gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

GRAND SHOW (App AM Aizat) and BIG MOTOR (A Nawawi) were both slow to find their strides.

At about the 400M, TOTALITY (App AK Lim) clipped heels with KING ROULETTE (App M Hanif) causing App AK Lim to be unseated. LIM’S BATTLE (App A Zaimuddin) shied away from the faller and BIG MOTOR was forced to take evasive action at the rear of the field.  App AK Lim was subsequently examined by the Club Doctor and although not seriously hurt, was stood down from his remaining riding engagement for the day.

At about the 300M, GRAND SHOW was disappointed for a run and shortly thereafter, shifted out causing a minor brush with LUCKY SIXTYSIX (SS Vanan).

                                    PERTH RACING TROPHY

Trainer R Lines was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on FRANCES.

TILSWORTH MALI (SU Lim) which cast its near hind plate, had to be reshod behind the barriers.

DIRAC (TK Barnabas) which was racing tight to the inside of SEE FOR YOURSELF (App S Saddam), had to be steadied and lost ground when SEE FOR YOURSELF rolled in away from GERMANIC (HS Gill).

POLO BOY (App AK Lim) raced wide from the 700M until entering the straight.

The Stewards questioned App M Hanif, the rider of SO THE THING, in the presence of his Master, Trainer LN Danis, and Trainer PS Kumaran, the Trainer of SO THE THING, into the reasons why the mare was slow to begin. App M Hanif stated that when the gates were released, he gave SO THE THING a good rein to jump but it threw its head up, and for several strides, the mare continued to throw its head and then he elected to ride forward and the mare commenced to over-race and raced fiercely. He added that racing to the 1200M, he had to check to avoid the heels of FRANCES (App L De Souza) and shifted ground. He further stated that SO THE THING continued to pull and was very difficult to ride until entering the straight and when placed under pressure at the 400M, it failed to respond to his riding.

Trainer PS Kumaran confirmed the instructions were to be handy and this was confirmed from the Trainer’s Instruction Form. App M Hanif reported after the race that SO THE THING was sore. A post-race veterinary examination of SO THE THING revealed no significant finding. The mare was impounded. The Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2017

                                            SATURDAY, 19 AUGUST 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 & 2), upgraded to “Good” after Race 2.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Philip Anderson (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1035)       CLASS 5 – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

SWISS BANK (App A Zaimuddin) over-raced in the middle stages of the race.

The Stewards showed App W Faizal, the rider of VALENTINE BABY, the vision of the final 100M, and warned him that he must have better control of his mounts when shifting out under the whip.

The Stewards questioned Jockey L Sofhan and Trainer LN Danis, the rider and trainer of MANMADHAN respectively into the mare’s poor performance today. Jockey L Sofhan stated that his instructions were to be midfield. He explained that the mare had no early pace, failed to respond to his riding at any stage when being put under pressure with the whip, found nothing and ran a disappointing race.

Trainer LN Danis confirmed the instructions, and stated that the mare had been working well and he was very disappointed with the run. The Stewards informed Trainer LN Danis to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the mare on returning to his stable. Their explanations were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of MANMADHAN revealed no significant finding.

The Stewards warned Jockey L Sofhan that in future he must obtain the Stewards’ permission to leave the jockey’s room prior to the conclusion of his riding engagements.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App AM Aizat, the rider of SWAN SONG, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(2) in that he failed to arrive on course within the prescribed time prior to his riding engagement. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous record and his submissions on penalty.  He was fined RM250/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT
SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2017
SATURDAY, 7 JANUARY 2017

STATE OF TRACK: Good

(Running rail out 4M for the entire circuit)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Michael Castillo (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Cadet Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R044) CLASS 5 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE B)

STREET CHAMP became restless in the barriers and reared high in the air, dislodging Jockey C Goon out the back gate. Jockey C Goon was examined by the Club Doctor and was found unfit to fulfill his riding engagements for the remainder of the day. The gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:20pm. Trainer C Leck will be advised that STREET CHAMP will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the Starting Stall) test before being declared to race again.

SUPER EIGHTYTHREE (SS Vanan) was slow to begin.

DUBLEO BEAUTY (HK Cheng) jumped outwards and bumped KIM SALUTE.

DUBLEO BEAUTY, PHILIP (J Low) and GOLD STAR PRINCESS (App S Zulfikri) all raced wide throughout the event.

Making the turn at the 1000M, BLACK TRISTAR (App A Zaimuddin) raced ungenerously and got its head up when racing to the inside of KING OF SEAL (HS Gill).

DUBLEO BEAUTY had a tendency to lay in between the 400M to the 200M and had to be eased by its rider on several occasions.

Upon returning to scales, App M Hanif, the rider of KIM SALUTE, reported that his saddle slipped sideways slightly during running.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J Low into the riding tactics of PHILIP in particular in the home straight of the event. Jockey J Low reported that the gelding had a tendency to lay inwards and over the concluding stages, failed to respond to his riding and that was his reason for not riding out. The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol films, reminded him of his obligations to ensure that at all stages, he rides fully to the end of the line.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 1
SLTC, Saturday, 7 January 2017

The Stewards questioned Jockey J De Souza as to the riding tactics that were adopted on NEW CLASSMATE. At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of NEW CLASSMATE, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(6) in that he failed to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that over the concluding stages, for 3 strides from the winning post, he dropped his hands and as a result, he ran fifth, allowing JP REGIS (App WK Lee) to finish fourth.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that Jockey J De Souza was riding a favourite in this event and the nose margin between the 2 runners. Jockey J De Souza was suspended for a period of one (1) month with effect from 9 January 2017 and to expire on 8 February 2017, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards and 3 Veterinary Surgeons inspected REYSHA (J Shankar) at the blood sample collection area, in the presence of Trainer LN Danis. After extensive tests, the gelding showed very minimal lameness which was well within the acceptable level, however due to the slight swelling, the Stewards and Veterinary Surgeons were not totally satisfied and ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 12:35pm. Trainer LN Danis was advised that REYSHA will be barred from racing for a period of 1 month and will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test after the completion of that period, before being declared to race again

CHASE THE DREAM (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

LIM’S CHARGE (HS Gill) reared outwards at the start, unbalancing its rider.

Shortly after the start, JET ACE (Lou Ho) was buffeted for some distance when WINGED FOOT (J De Souza) shifted outwards and STEERING (App A Zaimuddin) shifted inwards.

ACME (SS Vanan) had a tendency to over-race in the early stages, got its head up and raced ungenerously.

RAINBOW CENTRE (App SU Lim) and LIM’S CHARGE (HS Gill) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 2
SLTC, Saturday, 7 January 2017

Upon returning to scales, App A Zaimuddin, the rider of STEERING, reported that his horse raced greenly.

STEERING which was beaten 22 1/2 lengths and LIM’S CHARGE which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

SWISS BANK (App A Zaimuddin) jumped awkwardly and raced wide throughout the event.

Approaching the 1000M, D’GREAT RICH (J Low) began to race fiercely, got its head up and had to be eased off runners in front and lost ground as a consequence.

Approaching the 200M, PATERSON ROAD (App M Hanif) had to be checked off the heels of LIM’S RESPOND (HS Gill) which commenced to give ground.

The Stewards questioned Jockey J De Souza and Trainer R Lines into the disappointing performance of D’GREAT WALL in this event. Jockey J De Souza stated that shortly after the start, the gelding appeared to race flat despite his efforts and he placed it under pressure in an endeavour to improve its position at the 800M but it failed to respond to his riding.

Trainer R Lines stated that he was happy with Jockey J De Souza’s ride as he rode to his instructions to gain a midfield position as in its previous start, it was ridden forward, had a tendency to over-race and failed to finish off over the final stages. Trainer R Lines further explained that he was happy with its work leading into the event and could not offer any explanation into the disappointing performance. The Stewards informed Trainer R Lines to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding on returning to his stable. Their explanations were noted for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT WALL revealed no significant finding.

RACE 6 (R049) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE B)

Trainer A Scott was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on GREENSTONE (Y Aify).

The Stewards questioned Jockey HS Gill into the tactics that were adopted into his riding of KISS ME to the barriers in particular why he strongly galloped to the barriers. He reported that the horse has always been scratchy in its action and requires a good fast warm-up prior to its races and he further explained that in its previous race starts, he has done the same and the gelding has performed creditably. The Stewards, after reviewing its previous race starts, was satisfied and noted his comments for future reference.

Upon jumping, WONDERFUL SURPRISE (SS Vanan) jumped outwards and D’GREAT EMINENCE (J Low) jumped inwards resulting in CHINO DIABLO (App SU Lim) being placed in restricted racing room.

Approaching the 150M, DANCING TSURU (J De Souza) had a tendency to lay inwards resulting in the rider having to stop and straighten on several occasions.

Approaching the 100M, WONDERFUL SURPRISE had to shift out over the heels of LONESOME ME (App CK Khaw) in order to gain clear running.

The Stewards questioned Jockey Y Aify into the tactics that were adopted on GREENSTONE in particular in the front straight, why he failed to show sufficient vigour as required by the Stewards. Jockey Y Aify reported that on entering the front straight, the gelding had a tendency to lay inwards and as a result, he had to shift his whip from his right hand to his left hand in order to stop the gelding from hanging inwards and this placed him at a disadvantage as it was not his natural strong arm. He further explained that over the final 200M, the gelding continued to lay inwards and for this reason, he was

Stipendiary Stewards’ Report 5
SLTC, Saturday, 7 January 2017

unable to use the whip in the normal manner and the gelding is better suited to a longer distance.

The Stewards advised him that they were not fully satisfied, however, gave him the “benefit of the doubt” on this occasion. His comments were noted for future reference.

The start of this race was further delayed when SACRED CITY (J De Souza) proved difficult to be loaded into the barriers and when inside the barriers, reared on numerous occasions resulting in its off fore leg being stuck in the next barrier. The gelding again reared resulting in its near fore leg becoming stuck in the front gate. SACRED CITY will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

ACE SURPRISE (SS Vanan) and MR DREYFUSS (HK Cheng) were both slow to begin.

Approaching the 900M, MR DREYFUSS had to be eased off the heels of ALOHA (HS Gill) which rolled in marginally.
