STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 26 AUGUST 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

(Running rail out 4M on short course bend, 2M on long course bend)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1067) CLASS 5(B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

MUSANG KING (App WK Lee) was slow to begin.

POLO MASTER (App CK Khaw) was slow to find its stride.

At about the 1000M, ARCHER COMPANY (R Rueven) laid inwards and brushed the rail.

Approaching the 500M, NOVA ACE (SU Lim) was disappointed for a run on the heels of ARCHER COMPANY.

In the last 100M, NOVA ACE laid outwards under pressure causing COMMODORE LINCOLN (L Sofhan) to be taken slightly outwards in response.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

IMMORTALITY (C Goon) was slow to find its stride.

ROGER (Z Khairil) was observed to be racing keenly in the early stages. ROGER subsequently laid inwards approaching the 100M, forcing the rider to ease and correct.

When questioned regarding the performance of IMMORTALITY, Jockey C Goon stated that the mare was slow to find her stride, and struggled to go with the early pace but then improved approaching the 500M, at which point he felt confident that she would finish the race strongly. However her response to pressure in the straight was just fair.

Trainer SY Lim, the Trainer of IMMORTALITY, was unable to offer any further explanation for her performance which he considered to be disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of IMMORTALITY revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S REUNION (App A Zaimuddin) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

RACE 3 (R1069) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SMART MASTER, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he was late to arrive at the appointed place for mounting prior to the race.

AMAZING (HK Cheng) reared leaving the barrier and was slow to begin.

SMART MASTER (HS Gill) jumped awkwardly outwards.

MEGUSTO (App CK Khaw) jumped awkwardly outwards and was slow to find its stride.

GOLD KIDS (App AM Aizat) was slow to find its stride, and showed no pace in the early and middle stages despite being urged.

RISING STAR (SU Lim) which was beaten 25 ¼  lengths and SMART MASTER which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performances.

RACE 4 (R1070) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

PRINCE RAVEN (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

SPIN FIRE (L Sofhan) reared leaving the barrier and was slow to begin as a consequence.

At about the 100M, LA FAMILIA (Y Aify) shifted inwards under pressure causing MAZANDARAN (Z Khairil) to be slightly eased.

When questioned regarding the performance of ROC THAT, Jockey C Goon reported that his mount showed insufficient speed from the barrier to obtain a good early position. He therefore allowed the rider of THE LAWMAN (App W Faizal) which was drawn outside him to cross in front, and as he did so, LA FAMILIA (Y Aify) also crossed in front of him. He thus found himself shuffled back to the last place with little opportunity to improve his position before the straight. Jockey C Goon also stated that ROC THAT responded fairly in the straight and would ideally be suited in a longer distance than 1200M.

The Stewards noted his explanation but warned Jockey C Goon that in future he must be seen to ride his mounts in a positive manner in order to give his horses the best chances to be competitive. A post-race veterinary examination of ROC THAT revealed no significant finding.

When questioned regarding the performance of D’GREAT EMINENCE, Jockey HK Cheng stated that he was unfamiliar with the mare as this was a pick-up ride due to Jockey J Low being injured. He explained to the Stewards that the mare showed tremendous early speed and easily pulled many lengths clear of her rivals in the middle stages without any encouragement. At this stage, he was concerned if he tried to restrain D’GREAT EMINENCE, she would fight him and race even more keenly. He therefore allowed the mare to stride and maintain her advantage which she narrowly failed to hold.

RACE 5 (R1071) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

D’GREAT SONG (App KC Wong) had to be resaddled behind the barriers due to a broken stirrup iron.

TAFFETAS (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin  but recovered into a midfield position.

BLACK THORN (C Goon) jumped outwards causing AHMAR (L Sofhan) and MR ARMSTRONG (App WK Lee) to be taken outwards. As a consequence, MR ARMSTRONG was slow to find its stride and AHMAR bumped with LAUS DEO (J Mallyon).

Approaching the 200M, MOZART ECLIPSE (Y Aify) shifted inwards under a right-hand drive causing FIRST PRECINCT (J De Souza) to be taken inwards in response.

Approaching the 200M, BLACK THORN laid inwards under pressure.

At about the 100M, MOZART ECLIPSE continued to shift inwards despite the rider changing his whip to the left hand and attempting to correct, and bumped with RUSSELL THE CROWE (App AM Aizat). After reviewing the vision of the race, the Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

RACE 6 (R1072) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GHOST SPIRIT (App A Suriya) reared and jumped away awkwardly, causing the rider to become unbalanced.

BIG CENTURY (App A Zaimuddin) was slow to begin and raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Approaching the 400M, GHOST SPIRIT was shifted abruptly outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of NADESIKO JAPAN (App N Varmah). Thereafter GHOST SPIRIT continued to shift outwards under pressure and finished wide out.

When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of DUNE SAGA, stated that the horse had finished well from the rear of the field in its last start and the Trainer’s instructions were for him to drop the horse in behind. He therefore restrained DUNE SAGA after the jump with the intention to take a position directly behind ROTI CANAI (C Goon). However, GOLDEN CHOICE (S Sandana) which was drawn to his outside, was shifted quickly inside, and took the position that he was aiming for. Thereafter he found himself trapped wide and although he made some progress around the bend and believed himself to be sufficiently close to the leaders at about the 400M, he reported that DUNE SAGA produced only a fair response to pressure and raced greenly. A post-race veterinary examination of DUNE SAGA revealed no significant finding.

BIG CENTURY which was beaten 22 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

RACE 7 (R1073) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer L Moy was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 109(1) for failing to present OVERSEER (A Aucharuz) at the pre-race holding area within the prescribed time.

ARECIBO (J De Souza) was slow to begin.

ASTRO MAN (SU Lim) was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages in order to obtain a forward position.

SWEET LODGE (App WK Lee) was disappointed for a run on the heels of CHAR SIEW (L Sofhan) at about the 400M, and was shifted abruptly outwards to obtain clear running in the last strides.

When questioned, Trainer L Moy, the Trainer of OVERSEER, notified to the Stewards at 4:12pm that OVERSEER, which had led on its last start, would be ridden well-back in the field today.  The Stewards reminded Trainer L Moy of his responsibilities under MRA Rule 35(8) to notify the Stewards of any change of riding tactics not later than 5 minutes prior to the start of the race.

Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of OVERSEER, reported that it was his intention to take the horse well-back in the early stages but OVERSEER had over-raced, and therefore he had settled the mare in midfield. She then finished the race just fairly and in his opinion, had resented being restrained. A post-race veterinary examination of OVERSEER revealed no significant finding.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of TIGER BAY (R Rueven), Trainer F Maynard explained that in today’s race, TIGER BAY drew a better barrier and was able to easily obtain a forward position. He had reported on 5 August 2018 that TIGER BAY received interference in the early stages and appeared to sulk.

METALLOCENE (HK Cheng) jumped outwards.

CONDADO (App KC Wong) laid inwards approaching the 300M, and had to be eased and corrected.

RACE 9 (R1075) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SACRED SURFER (Y Aify) jumped outwards and brushed with PALTROW (C Goon), which in turn brushed with SATELLITE MAN (HK Cheng).

DAHEES (S Ruzaini) threw its head up on jumping.

Approaching the 400M, SATELLITE MAN laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty, and then compounded in the straight. When questioned regarding the performance of SATELLITE MAN, Jockey HK Cheng reported that the gelding got on the wrong lead leg around the bend and thereafter was disappointing.

Approaching the 300M, VOYAGER (SU Lim) commenced to lay inwards under pressure causing D’GREAT EFFORT (App KC Wong) to race in restricted room between VOYAGER and DAHEES approaching the 200M. App KC Wong reported that approaching the 200M, he checked his mount in order to avoid bumping with DAHEES on his inside. After reviewing the vision of the race, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Approaching the 300M, TALISMAN (Z Khairil) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.

Jockey R Rueven, the rider of YOU KNOW WHEN, reported that his horse raced greenly.

The Stewards acceded to Trainer F Maynard’s request to allow SYMPHONY ECLIPSE (Y Aify) to race without hind shoes as the mare had cast its near hind plate in the saddling area. As the mare became agitated when the Club Farrier attempted to remove its off hind shoe behind the starting gate, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SYMPHONY ECLIPSE at 6:01pm.

Trainer PS Kumaran was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 35(8) for failing to notify the Stewards of his intention for LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil) to race in a manner different to its most recent starts. LUCKY SIXTYSIX raced well-back in the field in its last 2 (two) starts but shared the lead in today’s race.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

THURSDAY, 23 AUGUST 2018, SLTC TRACKWORK

Trainer SY Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as he was observed by the Stipendiary Stewards to be taking FRANKLY MY DEAR (R240), HIGH TENSILE (R239), ROYAL GIBRALTAR (C448), SYMPHONY ECLISPE (E297) and an unnamed horse to the training track after the stipulated opening time for trackwork on the above date.

Trainer Shane Ellis was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Regulation 17 in that as the receiving Trainer, he was the person responsible for the lodgement of the Transfer Form when BROTHER WIND (W584) arrived into his stable but the said form was never lodged.

RACE 5 (R959) OPEN MAIDEN [W-F-A] – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 4 AUGUST 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 24 August 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of KITA TEAMWORK in the above race. They took evidence from Trainer Siva Kumar s/o Subramaniam (S Siva), who on 4 August 2018 was the B Trainer to Trainer PS Kumaran, then the trainer of KITA TEAMWORK. Jockey F Yap, who had given evidence to the Stewards on 5 August 2018, was also present.

Trainer S Siva explained that his intention was for KITA TEAMWORK to obtain a forward position, preferably second place, in the early stages. He added that he had given Jockey F Yap instructions about the mare’s tendency to jump slowly from the barrier and to throw her head up in response to pressure on the mouth. He also stated that he had requested KITA TEAMWORK to be loaded last as he felt that she was more likely to become agitated if left in the barrier for a significant period of time. Prior to the commencement of today’s enquiry, the Chief Starter had informed the Stewards that he had received such a request, but declined it on the grounds that KITA TEAMWORK had not previously given trouble at the barrier. The mare was therefore loaded first since she was allocated the inside gate.

The Stewards noted the explanation tendered by Jockey F Yap on 5 August 2018 that KITA TEAMWORK reared and was slow to begin, and thereafter raced greenly in the early stages and responded fairly to pressure in the straight. However, they informed Jockey F Yap that one particular aspect of his riding was concerning, in that his response to KITA TEAMWORK rearing out of the gate was to steady the mare under a tight hold, causing her to forfeit further ground. The Stewards noted that they had inquired into Jockey F Yap’s riding of BEIJING STAR on 25th February 2018 in similar circumstances (R257).

The Stewards warned Jockey F Yap that in future he must take all reasonable measures to obtain a good jump from his mounts and that his performance in this regard would be monitored.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 12 AUGUST 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1002) CLASS 5-B – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

This race was delayed by 10 minutes due to MUSANG KING (C Goon) dislodging the rider on the way to the start and WILL BE BETTER’s (App CK Khaw) unwillingness to proceed to the start. MUSANG KING was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

MUSANG KING jumped outwards. Subsequently, MUSANG KING was forced to race wide in order to obtain a forward position.

D’GREAT HAWK (App L De Souza) jumped inwards, causing AMONGST THE STARS (A Aucharuz), FLYING NEKO (J Low) and NOVA ACE (SU Lim) to be crowded between them. NOVA ACE lost its position as a consequence.

An inquiry into the running and handling of UNION JAC (App A Zaimuddin) will be held at a date to be fixed.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of GOLDHILL PRINCESS (J De Souza), Trainer R Lines stated that the mare showed signs of stiffness after her last start, and was medicated accordingly. He added that in his opinion, the race today was weak and uncompetitive.

RACE 2 (R1003) CLASS 5-A – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

This race was rescheduled to start at 1:10pm.

BEIJING STAR (HK Cheng) was slow to begin.

At about the 900M, BRILLIANT STAR (A Aucharuz) was briefly crowded on the inside of DAWN OF THE WORLD (M Ganeesh).

At about the 400M, GHOST AFFAIR (C Goon) shifted inwards causing BRILLIANT STAR to be switched abruptly outwards to obtain clear running.

At about the 300M, D’GREAT WALL (App KC Wong) rolled in abruptly and bumped ZENZERO (S Ruzaini). At about the 200M, D’GREAT WALL again shifted in slightly and bumped ZENZERO.

Approaching the 200M, LIM’S SIGNATURE (App A Zaimuddin) commenced to lay inwards, causing DAWN OF THE WORLD to be taken inwards in response.

At the 100M, LIM’S SIGNATURE laid in and bumped DAWN OF THE WORLD, and subsequently shifted across DAWN OF THE WORLD causing the rider to check. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed. Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of DAWN OF THE WORLD, placed third, lodged an objection against LIM’S SIGNATURE (App A Zaimuddin), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference in the last 100M. However, during the hearing of the objection by the Racing Stewards, Trainer S Dunderdale indicated that he would like to withdraw the objection.

At the conclusion of a subsequent inquiry, Trainer S Dunderdale was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 122(3) for lodging an objection being deemed by the Stewards to be frivolous in Race 2 (R1003) on 12 August 2018 (Sunday) at the Selangor Turf Club. The particulars of the charge were that he instructed Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of DAWN OF THE WORLD, to lodge an objection directly after the race, however, during the course of the subsequent hearing in response to the objection, he withdrew the said objection.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Trainer S Dunderdale’s mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was fined RM2000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (5:10pm).

When questioned regarding the performance of ZENZERO, Jockey S Ruzaini reported that the gelding was rather slow to find its stride and received pressure from D’GREAT WALL which was racing upsides, at various points of the race. He added that he received a bump from D’GREAT WALL in the straight and was trapped on the inside, and never had the opportunity to find clear running. He further added that ZENZERO may not be suited by backing up quickly within one (1) week as on this occasion. Trainer C Leck concurred with this observation. A post-race veterinary examination of ZENZERO revealed no significant finding.

SPIN FIRE (C Goon) jumped outwards and bumped ROC THAT (M Ganeesh) onto ELEGENT (App KC Wong). EASTERN TOWKAY (App AM Aizat) was restrained in the early stages and appeared to race ungenerously.

When questioned regarding the performance of EASTERN TOWKAY, App AM Aizat stated that his instructions were to race in a mid-to-back position to overcome the disadvantage of a wide barrier. He explained that he restrained EASTERN TOWKAY in the early stages in order to cross behind PERFECT RUN (App CK Khaw) but at the same point, PERFECT RUN slowed and he had no choice but to remain on his outside. Thereafter, he felt that EASTERN TOWKAY showed little pace despite being urged and was not suited by the “good” track which in his opinion, was significantly firmer than EASTERN TOWKAY prefers. He also informed the Stewards that the gelding responded fairly to pressure in the straight and made up some ground as the horses in front were tiring due to the strong early pace. A post-race veterinary examination of EASTERN TOWKAY revealed no significant finding.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 5 AUGUST 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R964) CLASS 5 – 1800M (LONG COURSE A)

Trainer WC Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to confirm with App AK Lim prior to declaring him on POLO MASTER (App CK Khaw).

SINGSURAT (O Chavez) was restless in the barrier and slow to find its stride.

FLEDGELING (SU Lim) reared leaving the stalls.

Approaching the 1600M, SHAHPUR JAT (A Aucharuz) laid inwards causing OD STAR (App KC Wong), COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini) and JET COSMO (App W Faizal) to be crowded on his inside. JET COSMO brushed against the running rail in this incident and lost its early position as a consequence. Jockey A Aucharuz was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he must show greater awareness of runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

POLO MASTER (App CK Khaw) showed no pace in the early stages.

At about the 300M, VERGLATICA (App A Suriya) shifted inwards under pressure causing App A Suriya to ease and correct. VERGLATICA subsequently showed a tendency to shift inwards under a right hand drive and the rider experienced difficulty in pulling the whip through to his the left hand at about the 100M.

At about the 100M, NAPOLEAN (R Rueven) shifted slightly outwards causing OD STAR to be crowded between SPEED CRAFT (J De Souza) and VERGLATICA and lose his place.

SPIRIT OF SPEED (App N Varmah) which was beaten 25 1/4 lengths and POLO MASTER which was distanced, will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performances.

When questioned regarding the performance of SPEED CRAFT, Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding has a history of intermittent leg problems and therefore his form was inconsistent. He added that SPEED CRAFT had performed well in an Official Barrier Trial earlier in the week. He further stated that he considered today’s race to be relatively weak and uncompetitive.

RACE 2 (R965) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Prior to the race, Trainer SY Lim, the Trainer of SIX EMPIRE, informed the Stewards that the gelding which has often led in his races, would be ridden in a mid-to-back position from a wide barrier today. SIX EMPIRE (C Goon) raced ungenerously in the early stages and was wide in the middle stages.

TAUBOSS (M Ganeesh) was slow to begin and showed no pace in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of TAUBOSS revealed no significant finding. The gelding was impounded.

At about the 400M, SOON SEEKER (A Aucharuz) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of BATTLE HORSE (R Rueven), and at this point, HAPPY EDDINGTON (J Mallyon) was forced to ease to avoid the heels of SOON SEEKER. HAPPY EDDINGTON was shifted slightly outwards in this incident and brushed with DROUGHT (Z Khairil) which in turn shifted outwards and brushed LIM’S BATTLE (HS Gill). An inquiry into this incident will be held on a date to be fixed.

Approaching the 200M, DROUGHT which had been crowded in the earlier incident, was shifted inwards in order to obtain clear running.

In the last 100M, BATTLE HORSE laid inwards under pressure and brushed with WILLIAM KING (WK Yan).

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the inconsistent and unreliable running of TAUBOSS. Evidence was taken from Trainer SB Tan and Jockey M Ganeesh, the trainer and rider of TAUBOSS respectively.

Trainer SB Tan pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of MRA Rule 117(3) in that:

  1. He is the Trainer of TAUBOSS;
  2. TAUBOSS was presented to race under his training on 8 July 2018 (R850), 21 July 2018 (R900) and 5 August 2018 (R965);
  3. The performances of TAUBOSS were extremely inconsistent in the three (3) aforementioned races;
  4. As the Trainer, he must attempt to ensure that all horses under his training perform in as consistent a manner as possible;
  5. He was unable to offer any satisfactory explanation into the inconsistent racing pattern and performances of TAUBOSS in these races.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Trainer SB Tan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. TAUBOSS was suspended from racing for a period of one (1) month under the provisions of MRA Rule 117(3), and will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (7:15pm).

FLYING WINNER was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers at the request of Jockey Z Khairil and was passed fit to race.

REBEL FURY (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1350M, BIG BOSS (App WK Lee) shied away from FLYING WINNER (Z Khairil) on his outside and in doing so, shifted inwards causing RAINBOW FISH (App L De Souza) to be crowded against the inside rail and to lose his position.

ARC CARA (C Goon) over-raced in the early stages and had to be eased to avoid the heels of D’GREAT BLESS (HS Gill) at about the 1000M.

At about the 400M, BIG BOSS displayed a tendency to lay outwards under pressure.

At about the 200M, BIG BOSS again laid outwards under pressure and at the same time, HIGH COUNCIL (S Ruzaini) commenced to lay inwards, causing MAZANDARAN (HK Cheng) to be squeezed between them. Thereafter, HIGH COUNCIL continued to lay inwards under pressure and had to be checked and corrected to avoid the heels of ROYAL GREEN (S Anandan) at about the 100M.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of VOGAGER, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip in the last strides. The Stewards noted that VOGAGER had lost no momentum as a result and had therefore achieved the best possible placing.

At about the 1300M, MOZART ECLIPSE (Y Aify) laid inwards despite the rider’s best efforts and brushed with ROYAL EXPLORER (O Chavez). Jockey O Chavez reported to the Stewards that ROYAL EXPLORER had received pressure from the outside and had tended to over-race in the early stages as a consequence.

Approaching the 500M, MR ARMSTRONG (App WK Lee) was disappointed for a run on the heels of ROYAL EXPLORER.

Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of LISTEN, reported that at about the 300M, his whip was knocked out of his hand by accidental contact with the whip of Jockey J Mallyon, the rider of TRUSON. After reviewing the vision of the incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Inside the 100M, App WK Lee, the rider of MR ARMSTRONG, attempted to shift outwards to obtain clear running but was unable to do so.

Trainer L Moy was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on OVERSEER (A Aucharuz).

GOOD PEOPLE (SU Lim) fly-jumped leaving the barriers.

LION CITY GOLD (App L De Souza) jumped outwards causing GHOST SPIRIT (App A Zaimuddin) to be crowded onto GOOD PEOPLE on the inside of MACHUNG STAR (S Ruzaini).

DING LIK (App WK Lee) jumped inwards and continued to lay inwards in the early stages causing MACHUNG STAR to be crowded on the inside of DING LIK.

At about the 400M, JABBAR (O Chavez) rolled in briefly and brushed with OVERSEER  which laid inwards in response, causing MACHUNG STAR to be disappointed for a run on the inside of OVERSEER. Thereafter JABBAR continued to roll inwards.

SYMPHONY ECLIPSE (Y Aify) laid inwards under pressure in the closing stages.

When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that his instruction was to ride MACHUNG STAR in a handy position today. However, after receiving pressure from DING LIK on his outside after the jump, and perceiving that more riders were intending to shift inwards from the outside, he elected to restrain MACHUNG STAR into a midfield position. Jockey S Ruzaini added that he had been disappointed for a run on the inside of JABBAR at about the 400M but his mount responded disappointingly to pressure and as such he felt that the incident at about the 400M made no difference. A post-race veterinary examination of MACHUNG STAR revealed no significant finding.

RACE 6 (R969) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GRANDE AFFARE (L Sofhan) which dislodged its rider behind the barriers and ran loose, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3:50pm. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

FULL BET (S Ruzaini) reared as the gates opened.

From approaching the 200M, SO ON (App W Faizal) demonstrated a tendency to lay outwards under pressure and the rider was unable to use his full vigour in the finish.

Approaching the 800M, HAPPY BUFFALO (HS Gill) started to hang aggressively outwards and in doing so, caused ELITE ROCKET (App A Zaimuddin) to be taken outwards when not clear of AUSSIE EAGLE (HK Cheng), which was sharply checked and lost its position. After reviewing the vision of the incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident. After this incident, HAPPY BUFFALO continued to hang and was effectively uncontrollable. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for his poor racing manners.

PENDRAGON PRINCESS (J Mallyon) raced keenly in the early stages.

Approaching the 1000M, KENT THE PATCHETT (A Aucharuz) raced greenly and laid inwards, causing SECOND CHANCE to be tightened for room on the inside and to lose ground.

Approaching the 900M, GLORY KID shifted inwards abruptly causing BEIJING STAR to be bumped against the rail. The Stewards attributed this incident to greenness on the part of GLORY KID. After reviewing the vision of the incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

KING OPERA (S Ruzaini) raced wide in the middle stages.

GLORY KID laid inwards under pressure from the 400M. A post-race veterinary examination of GLORY KID revealed no significant finding. The gelding which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 5 (R959) OPEN MAIDEN [W-F-A] – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 4 AUGUST 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 5 August 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, opened an inquiry into the running and handling of KITA TEAMWORK. The Stewards took evidence from Jockey F Yap, the rider of KITA TEAMWORK, Dr Silamban Subbarao, the Chief Starter, and Mr Tasharizal Mohd Tahir, the Assistant Starter.

The Stewards adjourned the inquiry in order to hear evidence from the Trainer of KITA TEAMWORK, Trainer PS Kumaran, and also to view footage from the barrier camera.

RACE 6 (R960) CLASS 4 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 4 AUGUST 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 5 August 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of ALASAMO. The Stewards took evidence from Jockey S Sandana, the rider of ALASAMO, and Trainer BT Lim, the representative of Trainer KF Wong, the Trainer of ALASAMO.

Trainer BT Lim reported that Trainer KF Wong had informed him of the riding instructions, which were to race in midfield and finish the race off as well as possible. Jockey S Sandana confirmed these instructions. He added that ALASAMO was not striding out to his satisfaction in the early and middle stages and for this reason, he had focused on keeping his mount balanced. He added that ALASAMO had responded fairly to pressure in the straight and would be better suited by a longer distance.

The Stewards warned Jockey S Sandana that he must ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query, and that in particular he must be seen to take opportunities to make progress whenever they present themselves.

Prior to the race, Trainer S Edwards, the Trainer of RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN (J Mallyon), informed the Stewards that the mare would be ridden with restraint from a wide barrier today. On jumping, RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN threw her head up and then raced greenly in the early stages.

TAIL SPIN (S Anandan) jumped slightly inwards, causing PLATINUM TYCOON (App L De Souza) and D’GREAT WALL (App KC Wong) to be briefly crowded to his inside.

Approaching the 1000M, PLATINUM TYCOON shifted abruptly inwards causing App L De Souza to ease and correct. In doing so, PLATINUM TYCOON was shifted outwards causing NOVA POWER (S Ruzaini) to run on his heels and to be checked.

Approaching the 200M, ACIPENSER (J De Souza) was shifted outwards to take a gap between RED SAPPHIRE (App CK Khaw) and NOVA SPIRIT (SU Lim). Thereafter NOVA SPIRIT commenced to shift persistently outwards away from ACIPENSER and finished wide out. The Stewards showed Jockey SU Lim the vision of the race and warned him that under similar circumstances in future, he should take appropriate measures to keep his mount straight, including switching his whip hand.

When questioned, App KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT WALL, stated that it was his intention to obtain a handy or midfield position but D’GREAT WALL showed no pace in the early stages and then, approaching the 1000M, he had been unable to hold his position on the inside of PLATINUM TYCOON which shifted inwards. Thereafter, he felt that D’GREAT WALL responded fairly to his urgings but stated that the gelding’s lack of early pace had left him placed too far back in the field. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT WALL revealed no significant finding.

FEISTY LEO was taken back to race in midfield on 21 July 2018 [Race 7 (R900)] and raced further back in the field on its previous three (3) starts, but took the lead in this race.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of TIGER BAY, Trainer F Maynard stated that as TIGER BAY had drawn a wide barrier, it was his intention to race further back in the field than his previous start. However in his opinion, TIGER BAY had resented being restrained in the early stages during which he also received some interference, and thereafter sulked and failed to perform.

SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

SATURDAY, 21 JULY 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R894) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

AIR POWER (App L De Souza) was slow to begin.

JANGO (S Anandan) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1200M, LIM’S RANGER (HS Gill) and BRILLIANT STAR (A Aucharuz) were racing in restricted room between RANT AND RAVE (J Low) on the outside and ELITE GUSTAVO (App A Zaimuddin) on the inside. At this point, ELITE GUSTAVO commenced to lay outwards causing BRILLIANT STAR to be pushed outwards, crowding LIM’S RANGER to the inside of RANT AND RAVE.

LIM’S RANGER clipped heels and blundered severely as a result of this incident. Jockey HS Gill reported that after this interference, he has found himself too far back in the field and was unable to make up the lost ground. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

Approaching the 100M, HAPPY JOY (A Aucharuz) rolled inwards under pressure as GALLOPY SWIFT laid outwards under pressure. Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of MUSANG KING, reported that at this stage, he had taken a precautionary check to avoid being crowded between HAPPY JOY and GALLOPY SWIFT.

The Stewards noted that thereafter, Jockey M Ganeesh allowed his mount to coast home with no assistance, however they considered MUSANG KING had ultimately obtained the best possible placing of which it was capable. The Stewards therefore warned Jockey M Ganeesh to ride his horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards under the provisions of MRA Rule 44(6).

PRINCE RAVEN (S Ruzaini) raced wide in the middle stages.

ENCOSTA ZONE shifted inwards under pressure at about the 200M.

At about the 200M, DAYFLIRT (App J Daniel) laid inwards under pressure causing FEISTY LEO (App L De Souza) to ease and correct in order to avoid his heels.

The Stewards inquired into the improved performance of the winner, TAUBOSS (M Ganeesh), trained by Trainer SB Tan. He reported that since the gelding’s last race 2 weeks previously, he had varied his training regime to which TAUBOSS seemed to respond well. He added that in his opinion, the horse had been ridden too far back in the field on its most recent start and had improved under a different rider today.

The Stewards warned Trainer SB Tan that according to the provisions of MRA Rule 35(8), he should inform the Stewards if he intended this, or any other horse in his training, to be ridden differently to the manner of its most recent start.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of ELEGENT. Having taken initial evidence from App AK Lim and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of ELEGENT respectively, concerning the riding instructions given, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

STAR INVINCIBLE (J De Souza) jumped inwards and bumped LIM’S BATTLE (HS Gill) inwards. LIM’S BATTLE was slow to find its stride as a consequence.

TARZAN (Y Aify) showed no pace in the early stages.

THAI BAHT (M Ganeesh) showed no pace in the early stages, despite Jockey M Ganeesh administering reminders at intervals from about the 1000M. When questioned, Jockey M Ganeesh reported that his instructions were to relax the gelding and conserve his energy for a late finish but THAI BAHT raced with little enthusiasm in the early stages. Jockey M Ganeesh further stated that THAI BAHT displayed some response when urged in the middle stages and caught up to the remainder of the field. However in the straight, the gelding displayed a tendency to shift away from the whip under pressure and he felt unable to use his whip with full vigour. He added that due to THAI BAHT’s greenness under pressure, the gelding was denied a clear run on more than one occasion. A post-race veterinary examination of THAI BAHT revealed no significant finding.

Approaching the 400M, D’GREAT RISE (J Low) was disappointed for a run on the heels of CONFOUND (S Ruzaini).

From the 400M, TRUMPS UP (App S Uzair) had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure causing the rider to ease and correct on several occasions.

ALRINA (Z Khairil) was slow to find its stride.

LIM’S STARDOM (App A Zaimuddin) raced greenly and laid inwards in the early stages.

DAHEES (O Chavez) shifted inwards under pressure from the 200M.

CHARLIES MISSILE (App WK Lee) which was beaten 23 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App AM Aizat, the rider of HALO BRIGHT, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 1200M, he moved across DAHEES when not sufficiently clear, causing that horse to be carried inwards towards CHARLIES MISSILE which in turn was carried onto TILSWORTH JACOBI (J Low), which was severely checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App AM Aizat’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) Malaysian race days with effect from 23 July 2018 and to expire on 5 August 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5:45pm).

OPTIMUS (M Ganeesh) reared as the gates opened and was slow to find its stride.

D’GREAT SONG (App KC Wong) jumped inwards and crowded D’GREAT CONQUEROR (App AM Aizat) on the outside of BRILLIANT DEAL (App W Faizal), which was bumped outwards by HATTA (S Ruzaini).

Between the 600M and 500M, D’GREAT CONQUEROR was forced to ease in order to avoid the heels of COMMANDO ECLIPSE (Y Aify) which laid in around the bend. As a result of this, Jockey Y Aify was warned by the Stewards that he must show greater awareness of runners on his inside in future.

Approaching the 300M, BIG BOSS (App WK Lee) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.

At about the 100M, LUKE MAN (F Yap) laid outwards abruptly and bumped with D’GREAT SONG and became unbalanced. D’GREAT SONG was carried outwards and bumped with BIG BOSS.

Approaching the 50M, BRILLIANT DEAL (App W Faizal) shifted out under pressure causing LUKE MAN to be briefly eased in order to avoid his heels in the latter stages. App W Faizal was warned that he must exercise greater care to keep his horses straight under similar circumstances in future.

JERAM VILLAGE (Z Khairil) was forced to race wide in the middle stages in an attempt to make progress. When questioned, Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of JERAM VILLAGE, stated that his instructions were to race with cover. However, he felt that JERAM VILLAGE was struggling to maintain the pace over today’s shorter distance of 1200M, and therefore allowed JERAM VILLAGE to continue to race wide in order to maintain his momentum.

App AM Aizat, the rider of D’GREAT CONQUEROR, returned to scale 1.8kgs overweight. Initial evidence was taken from App AM Aizat, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard, and Track Rider Muhammad Aiman Bin Mohd Nazir (TR.110), an employee of Trainer F Maynard.  The Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.

JERAM VILLAGE shifted outwards shortly after the line, causing OPTIMUS (M Ganeesh) to be eased to avoid his heels. The Stewards warned Jockey Z Khairil to take greater care when pulling up after the line.

Approaching the 600M, SIX EMPIRE (C Goon) was crowded between ALWAYS D’GREAT (App L De Souza) and STEP BY STEP (HS Gill), and was forced to check.

FOR FUN ONLY was forced to race wide in the middle stages in order to maintain a forward position.

Approaching the 200M, FOR FUN ONLY laid inwards under pressure and came across SIX EMPIRE which was being shifted outwards to obtain clear running. At this point, SIX EMPIRE made contact with the heels of FOR FUN ONLY and blundered, causing the rider to lose his irons. After reviewing the vision of the incident, the Stewards established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 100M, METALLOCENE laid in slightly under pressure and brushed with RA FORCE (App P Mogun).

At about the 50M, STEP BY STEP laid in under pressure and briefly crowded METALLOCENE on the outside of RA FORCE.

RAINBOW FISH (App AM Aizat) raced ungenerously in the early stages and had to be put under strong pressure to maintain his position. Thereafter, RAINBOW FISH raced wider around the bend in order to make progress. When questioned, Trainer R Lines, the trainer of RAINBOW FISH, stated that App AM Aizat reported that the horse had run flat. He added that RAINBOW FISH had been training well during the week. He was therefore unwilling to attribute the gelding’s disappointing performance to backing up within 7 days.  The Stewards instructed Trainer R Lines to report anything he subsequently discovers that may have affected RAINBOW FISH’s performance.

BAHAR was observed to over-race in the early stages.

I’M COMING BABY (App A Suriya) showed no pace in the early and middle stages despite being urged.

Approaching the 400M, EN LAUDER (App L De Souza) laid outwards on the bend, brushed with RAINBOW FISH and became unbalanced.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 6 (R848) CLASS 4 – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 8 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 10 July 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of LIM’S ELUSIVE. Evidence was taken from App A Zaimuddin, the rider of LIM’S ELUSIVE, in the presence of his Master, Trainer BT Lim. App A Zaimuddin was assisted by Ms Ramizah Bt. Ab Rahim (SC. 35), an employee of Trainer BT Lim, as an interpreter.

Trainer BT Lim stated that this was the first time that LIM’S ELUSIVE had raced under his training, having been transferred from Singapore. He informed the Stewards that he had instructed App A Zaimuddin to take up a position where the gelding was travelling comfortably, and to ride a patient race.

App A Zaimuddin stated that LIM’S ELUSIVE was frequently changing its legs, which he reported to a Stipendiary Steward after the race. In the circumstances, he had concentrated on keeping LIM’S ELUSIVE balanced in the middle stages of the race rather than attempting to make progress towards the leaders. He added that LIM’S ELUSIVE had given little response to pressure from the 400M.

Trainer BT Lim further stated that he believed that LIM’S ELUSIVE had struggled to cope with the undulations of the track, and may be better on softer going.

After reviewing the vision of the race and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards warned App A Zaimuddin that in future he must ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

RACE 6 (R848) CLASS 4 – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 8 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 10 July 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of GOLDEN PENINSULA. Evidence was taken from App CK Khaw, the rider of GOLDEN PENINSULA, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, and Dr James Yu, Veterinary Surgeon of Selangor Turf Club.

Trainer R Lines stated that he believes that the gelding performs best when obtaining a handy position in the early stages. He therefore instructed App CK Khaw to adopt similar tactics to GOLDEN PENINSULA’s previous start in Penang, where it had raced prominently under App CK Khaw and finished second, beaten half-a-length.

App CK Khaw stated that he was unable to obtain the forward position he wanted from barrier 9, as several horses on his inside showed early speed. He therefore opted to shift in behind his stable mate, RAINBOW FISH (App L De Souza) so as not to be forced wide around the bend. Thus he found himself further back in the field than intended, and explained that although GOLDEN PENINSULA responded to pressure from the 400M, he was unable to reach the leaders. App CK Khaw added that, with the benefit of hindsight, he should perhaps have attempted to make progress on the outside of RAINBOW FISH between the 800M and the 600M.

App CK Khaw further stated that GOLDEN PENINSULA had changed his legs under pressure approaching the 200M and appeared to be moving short when returning to the unsaddling area. Dr James Yu, Club Veterinary Surgeon, reported that although GOLDEN PENINSULA displayed no abnormalities immediately post-race, the gelding was significantly lame on its near fore leg the following morning.

At the conclusion of the inquiry, App CK Khaw pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(11) in that he failed to report to a Stipendiary Steward something that may have affected the performance or the chances of his horse in the race. He was fined RM1000/- and was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, which was deferred to commence with effect from 16 July 2018 and to expire on 22 July 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:45pm). The Stewards also warned App CK Khaw that in future he must do his best to ride to his instructions.

TUESDAY, 10 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OFFICIAL BARRIER PRACTICE

NOVA ACE (W2) which was lame off fore after its Barrier Practice, will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again.

 RACE 12 (R854) CLASS 4 – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 8 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

Jockey I Saifudin (SOON SEEKER) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was allowed. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

TUESDAY, 10 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB TRACKWORK

It was observed by a Stipendiary Steward on Tuesday, 10 July 2018, that the following horses were being exercised on a section of the Number 2 Turf Track that was clearly marked as not for use. The trainers and riders of the respective horses were all warned that a penalty may be imposed under similar circumstances in future.

  2. VOLCANIC GENERAL (STR KP Lim) – Trainer C Leck

BULL AND BEAR had finished last of 13, beaten 17 lengths, on its previous start and had subsequently been scratched from two engagements due to injuries on its off fore. No abnormalities were detected at the time of examination by the Chief Veterinary Surgeon.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (J De Souza) was slow to find its stride.

NOVA GENERAL (J Low) over-raced without cover in the early stages and raced wide in the middle stages.

Approaching the 200M, GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim) was shifted outwards to avoid the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (O Chavez). Thereafter, GALLOPY SWIFT laid inwards under pressure in the closing strides causing MONTE CARLO (App KC Wong) to be checked in order to avoid his heels. As a result of this incident, the Stewards reprimanded App AK Lim and warned him to make greater effort to keep his mounts straight under similar circumstances in future.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of GOLDHILL PRINCESS, reported that the mare was slow to find her stride and that he was unable to obtain a forward position as a consequence. He further reported that GOLDHILL PRINCESS produced a disappointing response to pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDHILL PRINCESS revealed no significant finding.

At about the 100M, D’GREAT LEGION (App L De Souza) laid outwards briefly under pressure causing PERCIUS (Y Aify) to be taken slightly outwards.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of ONCE A THIEF (App S Uzair), Trainer L Moy stated that he attributed the improvement of ONCE A THIEF’s performance to the removal of Blinkers on this occasion. He stated that App S Uzair had felt that the gelding was uncomfortable with the gear in his previous start. His explanation was noted.

Between the 250M and the 150M, D’GREAT RICH (App AM Aizat) was disappointed for a run on the heels of JUBILATION and WHAT IFF (S Anandan), and was only able to eventually obtain clear running inside the 100M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer W Lim and Jockey SU Lim regarding the tactics that were employed on NOVA WARRIOR. Trainer W Lim stated that it was his intention for the rider to obtain cover on NOVA WARRIOR but due to the slow early pace, Jockey SU Lim decided to go to the front. Jockey SU Lim added that NOVA WARRIOR became somewhat excitable when being attended in the barrier and was difficult to control in the early stages.

Trainer W Lim explained that in future races, he would ask the rider of NOVA WARRIOR to seek cover but allow them flexibility to take the lead if necessary, noting that the horse had previously been successful under forward tactics in Singapore.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 13 MAY 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 4), upgraded to “Good” after Race 4.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward)

RACE 1 (R611) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

RAMZES (F Yap) was slowly into stride and was outpaced in the early stages, and was never competitive. A post-race veterinary examination of RAMZES revealed no significant finding.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of GOOD VIBRATIONS, reported that the gelding stumbled shortly after the start.

ASHQAR (L Sofhan) raced ungenerously and was observed to carry its head awkwardly from about the 400M.

LONESOME ME (SU Lim) laid outwards under pressure from the 200M and bumped ROCK AND STONE after the line.

CHAMPAGNE ROSE (App CK Khaw) was disappointed for a run on the heels of ROCK AND STONE (App J Daniel) at about the 100M and was shifted inwards to obtain clear running.

RACE 2 (R612) CLASS 5 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim) jumped inwards and bumped UNION JAC (HS Gill).

NOVA RANGER (S Ruzaini) jumped inwards and crowded JANGO (S Anandan) on the outside of VRAAD (App WK Lee) which jumped slightly outwards.

LIKA TIGER (J Low) was slow to find its stride.

METEOR GARDEN (A Aucharuz) laid outwards in the last strides and brushed with GALLOPY SWIFT (App AK Lim).

When questioned, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of UNION JAC, stated that his instructions were to obtain a forward position from his outside barrier, however, he was unable to move across towards the inside as no appropriate gap presented itself. Thereafter he was caught wide in the middle stages and UNION JAC produced little response to pressure from the 600M. Jockey HS Gill stated that in his opinion, the gelding does not race well when coming under pressure at an early stage. He added that UNION JAC displayed a tendency to lay outwards throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination of UNION JAC revealed no significant finding. The gelding was impounded.

RACE 3 (R613) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer BT Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the removal of visor from ELITE GOLD (Y Aify) within the prescribed time.

Jockey F Yap, the rider of D’GREAT WORLD, reported that his gelding stumbled on jumping. The Stewards observed that D’GREAT WORLD sat back as the gates opened.

LINING TOGETHER (A Aucharuz) jumped awkwardly outwards and continued to hang outwards in the first few strides, causing him to bump HAPPY START (L Sofhan).

Shortly after the start, CAPTAIN CLASSIQUE (M Zairi) commenced to shift inwards despite the rider’s efforts and bumped ROYAL ACE (App L De Souza) inwards which caused DING LIK (I Saifudin) to be crowded between ROYAL ACE and D’GREAT WORLD. As a result, DING LIK lost its position and was forced to check. Thereafter DING LIK commenced to over-race and laid outwards approaching the 1000M.

At about the 1000M, HAPPY START was forced to check to avoid the heels of LINING TOGETHER and BIG BUS (J Low) was forced to ease to avoid the heels of HAPPY START. As a result of this incident, Jockey A Aucharuz was warned to show greater awareness of runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

KING ROULETTE (SS Vanan) laid outwards at about the 400M, raced wide in the straight and finished wide out. The gelding was distanced and will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

LINING TOGETHER shifted abruptly outwards at about the 100M, and had to be corrected and eased.

BIG BUS raced greenly throughout the race.

RACE 5 (R615) METRO A – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer F Maynard was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 105(2) for requesting a change of rider when one was already declared on COMMANDO ECLIPSE. He explained that Jockey Y Aify had been declared in error, and that he had intended to declare Apprentice AM Aizat. The Stewards accepted that the mistake was due to a clerical error and therefore authorized the change at 4.55pm on Tuesday, 8th May 2018. In determining the level of the penalty the Stewards noted that this was Trainer Maynard’s second breach of this particular rule in the last three months. COMMANDO ECLIPSE was a course scratching as it had a bruised back and will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Trainer S Dunderdale was fined RM1000/- under MRA Regulation 20.3.2 as read with MRA Regulation 20.6 for failing to ensure the vaccination status of PALTROW (S Sandana) for Japanese B Encephalitis was current. PALTROW was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:20pm.

GOT LUCK (SU Lim) jumped inwards, causing SATELLITE MAN (App AK Lim) and NOBLE LIAISON (HS Gill) to be taken inwards. NOBLE LIAISON lost its early position as a result.

Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of LISTEN, reported that shortly after the jump, he received pressure from NOBLE LIAISON on his outside causing him to shift inwards and bump the hindquarters of D’BUFFALO MAN (I Saifudin) which was turned outwards as a consequence. LISTEN was then badly crowded between NOBLE LIAISON and D’BUFFALO MAN causing Jockey Z Khairil to lose his irons. Thereafter LISTEN was positioned well-back in the field before making late progress.

Approaching the 500M, D’GREAT EFFORT (HK Cheng) was eased away from the heels of AUD DOLLAR (M Ganeesh) which threatened to roll in.

At about the 500M, GOT LUCK negotiated the bend with difficulty and had to be eased to avoid the heels of D’BUFFALO MAN.

Approaching the 400M, D’BUFFALO MAN was checked to avoid the heels of TIDAL WAVE (J De Souza). LISTEN was then shifted inwards to obtain clear running on the inside of D’BUFFALO MAN.

GOT LUCK which was beaten 25 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/Vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

App S Saddam reported after the race that GLORY KID raced greenly throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination of GLORY KID revealed no significant finding.

The Stewards observed that at about the 400M, App S Saddam, the rider of GLORY KID, got his whip entangled with his reins and took some time to free it.

Jockeys Y Aify and S Ruzaini, the riders of COLD WAR and FASTLANE respectively, reported that their horses raced greenly throughout the race.

RACE 8 (R618) SAFAR GEMILANG CUP – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

D’GREAT LEGEND (HK Cheng) jumped outwards and bumped D’GREAT TIMING (A Aucharuz) which was crowded on the inside of TARZAN (Y Aify). At the same time, FIREPUBLICGAME (App WK Lee) jumped inwards and bumped MULTIBLUE EAGLE (App P Mogun) twice causing that horse to be carried inwards, crowding GASSUR (S Ruzaini) and TARZAN on his inside. RACE 10 (R620) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

LIM’S BATTLE (HS Gill) was slow to begin.

I’M COMING BABY (App A Suriya) was slow to find its stride.

From the 800M, D’GREAT BLESS (App KC Wong) persistently laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

Approaching the 400M, GOD HELPS ME shifted slightly inwards causing CRAZY CLUB (J Low) to be eased and switched outwards in order to avoid his heels.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT BLESS, in the presence of his Acting Master, Trainer BT Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 400M, he allowed his horse to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of WINNING TANGO (M Ganeesh), causing that horse to be taken inwards when not clear of GOD HELPS ME (A Aucharuz) which was shifted inwards and bumped MAZANDARAN (Z Khairil).

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App KC Wong’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App KC Wong’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 21 May 2018 and to expire on 2 June 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:25pm).

When questioned, Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of MAZANDARAN, reported that the gelding had been unable to establish himself in the lead in today’s race, due to the fast early pace.  He added that MAZANDARAN received a bump at about the 300M, which put him out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of MAZANDARAN revealed no significant finding. MAZANDARAN which was beaten 19 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. The gelding was impounded.

The Stewards, on 13 May 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of CONDADO. Evidence was taken from Jockey F Yap and Trainer PS Kumaran, the jockey and trainer of CONDADO respectively.

Jockey F Yap stated that his instructions were to race forward but that CONDADO threw his head up on jumping, began awkwardly and laid outwards. As a consequence, the gelding was slowly away and had no opportunity to recover his position in the early stages.

Jockey F Yap added that he did not feel to make progress on the inside between the 800M and the 600M as he was concerned about being caught on the heels of MIA (App L De Souza) which rolled in briefly. Approaching the 400M, he elected to shift to the outside of MIA as he felt that this would give him the best chance of a clear run in the straight. However, the opportunity to obtain clear running did not present itself until the final 100M, whereupon CONDADO responded to pressure and finished strongly.

The Stewards warned Jockey F Yap that under similar circumstances in future, he must be seen to take sufficient measures to improve his position in the middle stages, and attempt to develop a run in the straight rather than waiting for a clear run to present itself.

They also informed Trainer PS Kumaran that he may be required in future to give the riding instructions for CONDADO in front of the Stewards’ Panel, in the event that he chooses a rider who is unfamiliar with the horse.
