Shortly after the start, STREET CHAMP (App A Suriya) steadied off the heels of COLONEL LINCOLN (App CK Khaw).

Near the 300M, SUPER BUFFALO (C Goon) became unbalanced when struck with the whip.

THAI BAHT was inclined to drift inwards at the last 75M.

RACE 5 (R621) CLASS 4 (B) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

SUNNY (App CK Khaw) and MOMENT OF JUSTICE (J Low) were slow to begin.

After being slow into stride, PARISBAS (App A Zaimuddin) had to ease off the heels of MOMENT OF JUSTICE near the 1450M. On straightening, MOMENT OF JUSTICE held NANA (Z Khairil) tight on its inside with those horses bumping.

When questioned Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of TAUBOSS, advised that he was unable to fulfill his required instructions to have the gelding in a mid-to-rear position as it had jumped very well and commenced to race strongly. He also stated that although he had steadied TAUBOSS, he was left sitting in second position.

RACE 6 (R622) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Acting on the Veterinary advice that EATONS GOLD was found to be lame near fore, it was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3:19pm. EATONS GOLD will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

TAFFETAS (App WW Cheah) was slow to begin.

HIGH COUNCIL (S Ruzaini) veered in considerably passing the 250M. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that HIGH COUNCIL returned having cast its off fore plate.

An inquiry was opened into the riding tactics on ARC CARA (HK Cheng) and Trainer S Dunderdale and Jockey HK Cheng, the trainer and rider of ARC CARA, were both questioned. Trainer S Dunderdale advised the Stewards that after assessing the race composition, he considered there was no early pace in the race and as such, instructed that ARC CARA lead. He stated that he believed that the gelding would benefit from a soft lead.

Jockey HK Cheng confirmed this instruction and further advised that his saddle had slipped backwards passing the 800M which had exacerbated the issues.

After considering the race sectional timing of ARC CARA’s previous start and this start, the Stewards were satisfied that ARC CARA had been ridden in similar fashion.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 1 (R587) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 12 MAY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 17 May 2019 (Friday) at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded the adjourned inquiry into the running and handling of ARECIBO. Evidence was taken from Jockey J De Souza and Trainer R Lines, the Jockey and Trainer of ARECIBO respectively.

Trainer R Lines advised the Stewards that he had instructed that ARECIBO not be forced early as he believed there would be significant pace in the race and also, it would be better given the gelding’s significant handicapped weight. He was of the opinion that ARECIBO was disappointing under significant riding in the straight.

Jockey J De Souza stated that he had not forced ARECIBO on jumping but had not restrained the gelding but had then niggled at ARECIBO near the 1000M in an attempt to keep in touch with the mid division. He further stated when struck with the whip, ARECIBO had commenced to raise its head in the air and he considered that although ridden strongly with the whip in the straight, ARECIBO had been disappointing.

After considering this evidence, the Stewards did not believe they could not substantiate a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards, however, Jockey J De Souza was advised of their dissatisfaction and warned him that he must ride every horse positively at all stages in future. Trainer R Lines was reminded of his obligations to instruct that horses be ridden in a consistent manner unless prior approval is granted by the Stewards.

RACE 8 (R583) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 11 MAY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MAY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 17 May 2019 (Friday) at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of MYSTIC MASTER. Evidence was taken from App A Zaimuddin, the rider of MYSTIC MASTER, in the presence of his Master, Trainer BT Lim, who is also the Trainer of MYSTIC MASTER.

App A Zaimuddin, the rider of MYSTIC MASTER, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being:

  1. He restrained MYSTIC MASTER from the start and caused it to lose its position until approximately the 1000M mark, being restrained from the 4th placing to approximately the 7th placing;
  2. He continued to restrain heavily MYSTIC MASTER from the 800M until well in the straight at about the 350M when in the clear;
  3. He exercised no vigour when behind CONDADO until about the 225M, before CONDADO shifted in; and
  4. His whip riding was not consistent with his proper whip usage and in the opinion of the Stewards, this amounts to flicking of the whip.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Zaimuddin’s guilty plea, his mitigating factors and related record. App A Zaimuddin was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months with effect from 27 May 2019 and to expire on 26 November 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of the suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (12:15pm).

An inquiry was held into App L De Souza’s ride on HARVEYWALLBANGER. Trainer R Lines advised the Stewards that he considered that the pace would be hectic and as such HARVEYWALLBANGER was to be ridden in midfield. He added that further, the gelding had won only once when leading but under different circumstances. He was of the opinion also that the 1100M of today’s race was shorter than the gelding’s best distance.

App L De Souza stated that he had received considerable pressure from outside runners shortly after the start which took him further back than anticipated. After riding the horse vigourously, it had made good ground but was unable to make up leeway caused by the early interference.

SHOQEET (KC Wong) was slow to begin.

FAALTLESS (App A Suriya) and AUD DOLLAR (HK Cheng) bumped at the 1100M.

Jockey KC Wong was questioned regarding his riding of SHOQEET and stated that the horse had been slow to begin and as its past form was over a distance, it showed no pace when making ground in the straight. He also stated that he was impeded when MR CROWE drifted out near the 200M and had to stop riding.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of SECRET AGENT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at the 300M, SECRET AGENT (Y Aify) shifted out causing PLATINUM LIFE (App J Daniel) to strike its heels and blundered. MR CROWE (S Salee) which was following, was inconvenienced.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Y Aify’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He subsequently was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 20 May 2019 and to expire on 26 May 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of the suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:37pm).

Jockey S Ruzaini was questioned regarding the whip use of WHITE CHIN. At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of WHITE CHIN, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that his whip action had failed to satisfy the Stewards in that several attempts and projections of his whip use had not made contact with WHITE CHIN.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Jockey S Ruzaini was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 20 May 2019 and to expire on 19 June 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of the suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (7:12pm).

Acting on the veterinary advice that BLACK DIAMOND was found to be lame off fore, it was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 12:45pm. BLACK DIAMOND will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RED EASTERN (C Goon) was slow into stride.

After being slow to begin, MORALES (App A Zaimuddin) was struck on the shoulder by the whip of App A Zaimuddin. App A Zaimuddin was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(i) for hitting his horse forward of the shoulder at the start and again approaching the 1100M.

Jockey C Goon was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount fully to the end of the race.

FLY HIGH was inclined to lay outwards at 275M and again at the 150M, bumping with MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah).

 RACE 2 (R577)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

LIGHTNING HERO (J Low) was slow into stride and shortly after the start, eased when SUPER BUFFALO (C Goon) shifted in.

Running to the 1100M, HAHA BABE (S Salee) threw its head and raced ungenerously. Jockey S Salee was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(b) for using his whip in an excessive manner on HAHA BABE.

ONE O NINE (HK Cheng) travelled wide from the 1100M until straightening.

A post-race veterinary examination of SCORPION KING (S Ruzaini) revealed that it bled and will now suffer the disability of MRA Rule 92(3) (barred 3 months), and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Trainer C Leck was questioned regarding the change of tactics on LIGHTNING HERO and he stated that when ridden on the pace in its last recent starts, the gelding had stopped badly and a review to its previous starts had suggested that LIGHTNING HERO was better suited by being ridden midfield, and as such he instructed the rider in this manner.

When questioned as to why his horse was ridden in a rearward position, Jockey J Low said that he had been instructed to ride in this manner but also LIGHTNING HERO had not jumped well, was behind the pace in the early stages and held further back than anticipated.

Trainer C Leck was warned of his obligations to advise the Stewards on any change of tactics of all his horses.

At the 1450M, COLD WAR (S Ruzaini) shifted in, crowding BEAUTIFUL ONE (App S Uzair) which tightened NASI LEMAK (App J Daniel).

BEAUTIFUL ONE raced wide from the 700M until straightening.

MERCHANT MARINE (App A Suriya) dropped his whip at about the 500M. App A Suriya was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

RACE 4 (R579)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Trainer WC Lim was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on CATCH ME GREAT (Y Aify).

MASTER JIANGMEN (J Low) was slow to begin.

CHAR SIEW (HK Cheng) and FRANCES (App L De Souza) raced wide in the middle stages.

App A Suriya allowed HYDRANT to drift outwards from the 250M, which CATCH ME GREAT (Y Aify) also drifted outwards. App A Suriya was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount when it shifted.

An objection was lodged by Jockey Y Aify, the rider of CATCH ME GREAT, placed second, against HYDRANT (App A Suriya), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 150M. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

The Stewards inquired into the riding of ELITE ROCKET (App A Zaimuddin). Trainer BT Lim advised that it had been his intention to have the horse ridden off the pace as it had not finished off its races to his satisfaction recently

App A Zaimuddin statated that although ELITE ROCKET had begun well, he had been quickly covered by other runners and the gelding had travelled well but was inclined to get its head in the air when he had pushed it out and the horse drifted out, bumping another runner in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of ELITE ROCKET revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

On considering this matter, the Stewards considered that whilst the horse was ridden contrary to its previous form and a significant veterinary report, as such they took no further action.

 RACE 5 (R580)         CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

This race was rescheduled to start at 2:50pm.

DOUBLE RAINBOW (S Anandan) and SOON SEEKER (App S Uzair) were both slow to begin.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza stated that HUSSONATOR has a history of being reluctant to start and as such he had used his whip to engage the gelding to proceed. Whilst accepting his explanation, the Stewards warned Jockey J De Souza for using his whip excessively.

PANCA DELIMA (R Shafiq) which stopped badly in the straight and was beaten 12 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. When questioned, Jockey R Shafiq advised that the gelding had commenced well and raced keenly in the early stages to a fast pace but when being under pressure on straightening, had failed to respond. He added that when crowded near the 300M, PANCA DELIMA had dropped the bit and lost ground quickly.  A post-race veterinary examination of PANCA DELIMA revealed no significant finding.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of BLACK THORN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that passing the 200M, CONDADO (App L De Souza) shifted in, crowding EATONS GOLD (App CK Khaw). At the same time, BLACK THORN (HK Cheng) was taken outwards to obtain a clear run and caused CONFLIGHT (App WW Cheah) to be steadied. BLACK THORN continued to shift out and forced EATONS GOLD to check on its outside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey HK Cheng’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He subsequently was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 20 May 2019 and to expire on 1 June 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of the suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:32pm).

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of MYSTIC MASTER (App A Zaimuddin) and after taking evidence from the horse’s Trainer and rider respectively, Trainer BT Lim and App A Zaimuddin, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed. SUNDAY, 7 APRIL 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 6), upgraded to “Good” after Race 6.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R424) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

NORMAN (Z Khairil) was slow to begin.

TAKE A BOW (App S Uzair) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 400M, TARZAN (Y Aify) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running. TARZAN laid inwards at about the 200M, and had to be eased and corrected.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TAKE A BOW, Trainer L Moy stated that he had recently increased the intensity of the gelding’s training regime which perhaps had not been beneficial.

RACE 2 (R425) OPEN NOVICE (SW) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

SONNY BILL (HS Gill) was slow to begin. When questioned, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SONNY BILL, stated that he regularly rides the gelding and that it had displayed a similar tendency to jump slowly in the past. The Stewards noted that SONNY BILL had been required to trial after jumping very slowly in Perak on 5 January 2019. Jockey HS Gill added that he tried to motivate SONNY BILL in the early stages and urged him forward which caused the gelding to over-race and therefore be caught wide from the 1000M.

At about the 1400M, READY TO RULE (J De Souza) was shifted inwards, causing PREMIUM RUSH (App S Uzair), which was over-racing, and CASEY (S Ruzaini) to be crowded between READY TO RULE and MR WASHINGTON (App L De Souza). Jockey J De Souza was shown the vision of the incident and was severely warned by the Stewards the he must leave sufficient space for horses on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

Approaching the 1200M, ROMAN WELLS (J Low) which was over-racing, was shifted outwards to avoid running onto the heels of MYSTICAL STAR (Z Khairil).

At about the 400M, ROMAN WELLS was shifted outwards to obtain clear running and then laid inwards under pressure when tiring in the last 200M.

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of OVERSEER, dropped his whip at about the 200M. He was shown the vision of the incident and was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

Jockey Y Aify was warned by the Stewards for using his whip on SMIDDY BYRNE forward of the shoulder at about the 200M.

When questioned over the improved form shown by BLUE EYED BOY (KC Wong), Trainer S Edwards stated that the gelding had been disappointing in his previous start. He stated that he had no firm opinion as the cause of the improvement today but speculated that perhaps the “Yielding” track was in the gelding’s favour today and that he was suited by extremely patient tactics.

RACE 3 (R426) CLASS 4 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

ELITE GOLD (C Goon) jumped outwards and was slow to find its stride.

TRIPLE ONE STAR (App L De Souza) was slow to begin.

MOMENT OF JUSTICE (J Low) was bumped outwards by ELITE GOLD at the jump and brushed with DROUGHT (Z Khairil).

At about the 1200M, MARY KING (Y Aify) rolled inwards causing DROUGHT to be briefly eased.

WE’RE THE WORLD (HK Cheng) laid outwards at about the 500M and negotiated the bend with difficulty. WE’RE THE WORLD commenced to lay inwards from the 400M and was eased in the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of WE’RE THE WORLD revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App CK Khaw, the rider of BRILLIANT DEAL, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that just inside the 400M, he allowed his mount to shift inwards whilst using his whip in his right hand, causing SUN SEEKER (S Anandan) to be checked and CUBAN HEEL (J De Souza) to be slightly inconvenienced.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App CK Khaw’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 April 2019 and to expire on 20 April 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:35pm).

Approaching the 200M, LAUGHING BUFFALO (App S Uzair) laid outwards under pressure.

At about the 200M, MOMENT OF JUSTICE (J Low) laid inwards causing ELITE GOLD and BRILLIANT DEAL to be slightly crowded on his inside.

In the last 100M, BRILLIANT DEAL rolled outwards under pressure.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of MOMENT OF JUSTICE, Trainer M Sukri stated that this was the gelding’s first run under his training, therefore he was unable to offer any confident explanation but added that MOMENT OF JUSTICE may have been suited by the “Yielding” track conditions.

RACE 4 (R427) CLASS 4 – 1800M (LONG COURSE A)

SPECIAL STAKES

CHAR KWAY TEOW (App N Varmah) jumped outwards causing GROUND CONTROL (HS Gill) to be crowded on the inside of MR HOPKINS (S Ruzaini).

JJ STAR (J Low) had to be urged in the early stages to maintain a forward position.

Approaching the 200M, JJ STAR laid inwards causing GROUND CONTROL to be taken slightly inwards onto GREENSTONE (Z Khairil) which was checked when already weakening. After viewing the vision of the incident, the Stewards were unable to attribute blame to any one rider and deemed it a racing incident.

App CK Khaw, the rider of SUNNY, was warned by the Stewards for dropping his whip in the last 100M.

When questioned regarding the different tactics employed on GREENSTONE, Trainer L Moy stated that it was never his or Jockey Z Khairil’s intention to make the running but that GREENSTONE over-raced and pulled his way forward into the lead. Trainer L Moy added that GREENSTONE behaved in similar fashion before when previously tried over an extended distance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App N Varmah, the rider of CHAR KWAY TEOW, in the presence of his Master, Trainer C Leck, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at the 800M, he allowed his mount to roll inwards causing JJ STAR to be eased to avoid CHAR KWAY TEOW’s heels and GROUND CONTROL, which was racing on JJ STAR’s inside and SACRED EMPIRE (O Chavez), which was following GROUND CONTROL, to be eased in turn.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App N Varmah’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 April 2019 and to expire on 14 April 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:40pm).

RACE 5 (R428) METRO A – 1800M (LONG COURSE A)

STAYER STAKES

Trainer S Ellis was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 109(1) for failing to present BROTHER WIND (O Chavez) at the pre-race holding area within the prescribed time.

At about the 400M, BROTHER WIND rolled inwards which caused LA FAMILIA (Y Aify) to be awkwardly placed on the heels of ROYAL EXPLORER (Z Khairil) and to shift inwards for clear running.

SHELLOMADA (HS Gill) laid inwards under pressure between the 200M and the 100M.

At about 100M, SATELLITE PRINCE (S Ruzaini) shifted abruptly outwards causing LISTEN (KC Wong) to be eased in order to avoid his heels.

RACE 6 (R429) 4 YEAR OLD RACE – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

E SUPREME (S Anandan) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped TAUROS (App S Uzair) onto SPARKLE LOT (J De Souza) which was crowded on the inside of BELLA VELOCE.

At the 400M, NICATOR (App CK Khaw) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SPARKLE LOT.

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” after this race.

BACK TO THE TOWERS (S Anandan) was slow to begin. When questioned, Jockey S Anandan stated that BACK TO THE TOWERS sat backwards as the barrier opened. The Stewards reviewed the vision of the jump and accepted Jockey S Anandan’s explanation.

Approaching the 900M, BACK TO THE TOWERS which was racing in restricted room between FIRST DANCE (Y Aify) and RACER KING (S Muniandy), became unbalanced and buffeted with RACER KING when FIRST DANCE was shifted slightly inwards to avoid the heels of EASTER MATE (KC Wong). The Stewards inquired into this incident and having heard the evidence tendered, warned Jockey KC Wong, the rider of EASTER MATE, that he must show greater awareness of runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

At the 800M, EASTER MATE was following D’GREAT VULTURE (CK Khaw) which slowed, causing EASTER MATE to be eased. METALLOCENE (Z Khairil) was forced wide by EASTER MATE in this incident and thereafter raced wide in the middle stages.

At about the 500M, BACK TO THE TOWERS was denied a run on the heels of FIRST DANCE and METALLOCENE.

D’GREAT VULTURE laid inwards under pressure approaching the 200M.

At about the 200M, CONDADO (App WW Cheah) laid slightly outwards.

Trainer M Sukri was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 109(1) for failing to present VOLUMINOUS (Y Aify) and GUNFORHIRE (J De Souza) at the pre-race holding area within the prescribed time.

VOLUMINOUS was unable to be boxed and was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4:31pm. The mare will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

GUNFORHIRE (J De Souza) stood still as the gates opened, was very slowly away and then raced ungenerously. Jockey J De Souza reported that the colt showed little enthusiasm. GUNFORHIRE which was beaten 12 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

EBTIHAAL (S Anandan) jumped awkwardly outwards and caused CONSERVATION (S Muniandy) to be tightened on the inside of GENERAL MARSHALL (HS Gill) which was taken outwards.

GENERAL MARSHALL commenced to over-race approaching the 1000M and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of CONFEAT (O Chavez). Thereafter, GENERAL MARSHALL was positioned at the back of the field and had to be taken wide out to challenge in the straight.

Approaching the 200M, CONFEAT laid inwards under pressure causing SYMPHONY ECLIPSE (S Ruzaini) to be taken inwards and check CONSERVATION.

Approaching the 150M, MISE EN GARDE (Z Khairil) rolled inwards and brushed with NEVERSAYNEVER (App S Uzair) before being corrected.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey O Chavez, the rider of CONFEAT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift in away from the whip when not sufficiently clear of SYMPHONY ECLIPSE causing that horse to be taken inwards and cause interference to CONSERVATION.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey O Chavez’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 8 April 2019 and to expire on 14 April 2019, both dates inclusive. SHOWAR (J Low) jumped outwards causing BIG SUPER (C Goon) to be taken outwards onto WINGED FOOT (KC Wong) which lost its early position as a consequence.

PLACE YOUR BET (App S Uzair) was slow to begin.

Between the 1000M and the 900M, KUTTNER (HK Cheng) displayed a tendency to lay inwards causing Jockey KC Wong, the rider of WINGED FOOT, to ease in order to avoid the heels of KUTTNER.

Approaching the 100M, SWEET LODGE (App WW Cheah) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SHOWAR and had to be shifted abruptly inwards.

Jockey KC Wong, the rider of WINGED FOOT reported that having suffered interference at the 900M, his mount was placed too far back in the field. A post-race veterinary examination of WINGED FOOT revealed that it was lame near fore and exhibiting signs of respiratory distress, and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned about the improved form shown by HARVEYWALLBANGER (App L De Souza), Trainer R Lines stated that the gelding had displayed good early pace previously and that his instructions were to ride a forward race from the inside barrier. He added that HARVEYWALLBANGER was able to lead without coming under serious pressure and benefited from being able to dictate.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 6 APRIL 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding (Races 1 to 4), upgraded to “Good” after Race 4.

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R414) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

LIM’S GREETING (HS Gill) was slow to begin.

At about the 1150M, POLO GAGA (Z Khairil) shifted inwards causing JET ACE (O Chavez) to be eased. Jockey Z Khairil was shown the vision of the incident and warned to take greater care when crossing in front of rivals under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 900M, JET ACE was eased to avoid running onto the heels of POLO GAGA.

Approaching the 200M, TILSWORTH JOSHI (S Muniandy) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SEA HORIZON (App L De Souza) and was forced to shift outwards just inside the 200M for clear running.

At about the 100M, JET ACE was struck twice in quick succession over the nose by the whip of Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of POLO GAGA. After viewing the vision of the incident, the Stewards were unable to attribute blame to any one rider and deemed it a racing incident.

When questioned regarding the different tactics employed on SEA HORIZON, Trainer R Lines stated that the gelding does not normally lead in its races, and he was surprised that he had the speed to do so on this occasion. He added that in his opinion, the race was run at a slow pace. His attention was drawn to the provisions of MRA Rule 117(3) which relates to inconsistent and unreliable running.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of HYDRANT (J Low), Trainer C Leck stated that this was the weakest race the gelding had contested and it had benefitted from a drop in grade on this occasion.

At the 400M, ASHQAR (Y Aify) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SO ON (HS Gill) but was able to obtain a clear passage as SO ON shifted gradually off the rail.

BEIJING STAR (S Ruzaini) laid outwards under pressure from the 300M.

RACE 4 (R417) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SHARON’S STAR (App S Uzair) jumped inwards causing L’KEN (App WW Cheah) to be crowded and carried inwards onto JERAM VILLAGE (Z Khairil) which was also inconvenienced.

MR MOSA (App L De Souza) raced wide in the middle stages.

BLACK THORN (HK Cheng) was outpaced in the middle stages.

Approaching the 300M, ALLIED POWER (O Chavez) laid inwards and brush with MORE POWER (App CK Khaw) which was taken slightly inwards into the path of SHARON’S STAR (App S Uzair), which was following.

Approaching the 200M, SHARON’S STAR was shifted inwards for a run on the inside of EL TORDILLO (HS Gill) and at the 200M, BLACK THORN was switched outwards around SHARON’S STAR which had shifted inwards.

At the 200M, MORE POWER compounded causing L’KEN which was following, to be shifted outwards.

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” after the running of this race.

RACE 5 (R418) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GAZOO (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

SATTAR (S Ruzaini) threw its head up on jumping, and raced ungenerously for the first few strides.

VOLANTE GENERAL (S Anandan) was slow to find its stride.

SILVER POWER (Z Khairil) stepped inwards on jumping.

At the 1100M, SECKILL (C Goon) commenced to lay outwards and raced awkwardly causing SMART MASTER (KC Wong) to be taken slightly outwards and brush with MACHUNG STAR (J Low) which was turned inwards.

When questioned, Jockey J Low, the rider of MACHUNG STAR, reported that having been turned inwards at the 1100M, he lost momentum, forfeited ground and was then caught on the heels of SECKILL which laid persistently outwards. He added that at about the 1000M, Jockey C Goon, the rider of SECKILL, eased his mount in an attempt to correct and due to this, MACHUNG STAR became trapped on his heels and was shuffled back.

At about the 500M, SMART MASTER was disappointed for a run on the heels of SECKILL.

Approaching the 400M, SILVER POWER laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty causing MAREA NEGRO (App A Suriya) to be taken outwards in turn.

From the 300M, MACHUNG STAR laid inwards under pressure.

Approaching the 200M, SECKILL commenced to lay outwards under pressure.

When questioned regarding the improved form shown by SECKILL, Trainer BT Lim stated that the gelding had benefitted from a positive ride from an advantageous inside barrier. The Stewards drew his attention to his responsibilities under MRA Rule 35(8), which requires the Trainer to notify the Stewards if he intends a horse to be ridden in a manner different to its most recent start or starts.

RACE 6 (R419) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

ROCK EAGLE (HK Cheng) which reared in the gates, dislodged and winded his rider, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4:04pm. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again due to his unruliness.

App L De Souza, the rider of RAINBOW FISH, reported that the gelding sat back in the barrier and was slow to begin. He was therefore unable to carry out his riding instructions which were to get a good jump and sit in 4th or 5th position. A post-race veterinary examination of RAINBOW FISH revealed no significant finding.

READY TO DANCE (J De Souza) was slow to find its stride.

HAPPY BABY (C Goon) was outpaced in the early stages.

ELITE GENERAL (HS Gill), which was drawn outside, raced wide throughout. ELITE GENERAL, which was beaten 14 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

RACE 7 (R420) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

This race was rescheduled to start at 4:40pm.

Approaching the 400M, POWERFUL FIGHTER (J De Souza) laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

Approaching the 200M, SUN FORCE (S Anandan) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of ARC CARA (HK Cheng) but in doing so, rolled outwards causing RUSSELL THE CROWE (KC Wong) to be taken outwards onto SPEEDY DEMON (S Muniandy) which in turn became crowded on the inside of JUBILATION (App A Suriya).

All riders returned to scale an average of 1kg overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Uzair, the rider of SOON SEEKER, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He rode with insufficient vigour between the 400M and the 100M when SOON SEEKER was staying on strongly and making up ground.
  2. He unnecessarily restrained SOON SEEKER approaching the 200M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Uzair’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. App S Uzair was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months with effect from Monday, 8 April 2019 and to expire on 7 October 2019, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:25pm).

RACE 8 (R421) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

This race was rescheduled to start at 5:15pm.

MYSTIC MASTER (HS Gill) jumped outwards, causing CONFLIGHT (O Chavez), LUCKY JUSTICE (App CK Khaw) and SACRED GALAXY (KC Wong) to be tightened for room on the inside of GABBAR (S Anandan).

In the first few strides, GABBAR received contact from SACRED GALAXY (KC Wong) on his inside, became unbalanced and laid outwards causing FIRST PRECINCT (S Muniandy) which was following, to be shifted outwards.

FIRST PRECINCT was outpaced in the early stages.

LUCKY JUSTICE (App CK Khaw) laid inwards under pressure at about the 200M.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1 1/2kgs overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 12 (R405) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 31 MARCH 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 6 April 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of I’M A GENIUS. They questioned Jockey HK Cheng and took evidence from Trainer S Hamilton.

Jockey HK Cheng stated that his instructions were to settle the gelding in a mid-to-back position and that having done so, I’M A GENIUS finished the race well, leading him to advise the trainer to try a longer distance next time.

The Stewards warned Jockey HK Cheng that in future he must take opportunities to improve his position when they present themselves, and when making his finishing effort, he must ride in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

AMENDMENT

RACE 4 (R397) AINTREE PARK CHALLENGE CUP – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 31 MARCH 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2019

The attention of all parties was drawn to the provisions of MRA Rule 117(4) which specifies that the jockey’s instructions must come from the Trainer, not the Owner. However, the Stewards accepted that on this occasion the Owner, Navaneethasingham a/l A Ratnasingham, had merely acknowledged the race plan suggested to him by his experienced and successful Jockey. They otherwise accepted the explanations tendered with regard to the running and handling of CONFEAT.

PLACE YOUR BET (App S Uzair) stood still as the gates opened and was slow to begin.

D’GREAT SONG (App CK Khaw) jumped awkwardly inwards and then commenced to lay inwards, forcing the rider to ease and correct. CATCH ME GREAT (Y Aify) was forced to ease in order to avoid the heels of D’GREAT SONG.

MURDOCH (App N Varmah) was shifted inwards after jumping but then commenced to lay inwards despite the rider’s attempt to straighten and brushed with the rail. Thereafter MURDOCH raced ungenerously. MURDOCH, which laid persistently inwards throughout the race, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having difficult racing manners.

At about the 400M, SAM THE MAN (App L De Souza) was denied a run on the heels of LIM’S SINCERE (C Goon) which compounded.

Approaching the 100M, BAHAR (S Ruzaini) shifted outwards under pressure when not clear of SAND BANK (J De Souza) causing SAND BANK to be taken outwards. SAM THE MAN was taken outwards in turn by SAND BANK causing MY GOODNESS to be inconvenienced. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of BAHAR, was shown the vision of this incident and warned that he must take all possible measures to keep his horses straight under similar circumstances in future.

When questioned regarding his vigour in the straight, Jockey J Low, the rider of MY GOODNESS, stated that the gelding laid persistently inwards under pressure and he had to change his riding style in an attempt to keep straight. He added that SAM THE MAN had shifted out towards his mount at about the 100M, causing MY GOODNESS to become slightly unbalanced. He felt that this incident had not affected MY GOODNESS’ placing.

PARAGON STAR (J De Souza) jumped outwards, and brushed with TOTALITY (Y Aify), became unbalanced, and shifted inwards causing PALTROW (M Ganeesh) which had been bumped outwards by IMMORTALITY (J Mallyon) to be checked.

LIM’S BULLET (C Goon) was slow to begin.

TOTALITY (Y Aify) threw its head up approaching the 1100M, in response to him being briefly crowded on his outside.

At about the 1000M, App S Uzair, the rider of HELLO BOSS, which was over-racing , attempted to shift outwards to avoid the heels of DAHEES (O Chavez) but was unable to do so as HAPPY START (App N Varmah) rolled inwards approaching the bend. At this point, App S Uzair was forced to check HELLO BOSS causing PARAGON STAR, which was following, to take evasive action and shift outwards into the path of TOTALITY, which was checked.

App S Uzair, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy, was shown the vision of this incident. The Stewards informed Trainer L Moy that they considered that it was questionable whether HELLO BOSS was an appropriate ride for a relatively inexperienced Apprentice. Trainer L Moy was advised to provide more suitable opportunities for his Apprentice in future.

Approaching the 1000M, TRIGGER MAN (App CK Khaw) was allowed to shift inwards when just barely clear of D’GREAT ERA (J Low), which was eased. App CK Khaw, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, was shown the vision of the incident and warned to show greater awareness and to respect the 2-length standard in similar circumstances in future.

Approaching the 900M, D’GREAT ERA was eased to avoid the heels of TOTALITY, which was checked by PARAGON STAR in the earlier incident at about the 1000M.

Trainer C Leck was called before the Stewards and was shown the vision of App N Varmah’s ride on HAPPY START in this race. He was formally notified by the Stewards that they considered App N Varmah must demonstrate improvement in all aspects of his riding, particularly his ability to save ground and to ride a vigourous finish, failing which they would not recommend that an extension of his licence be granted at the expiry of his current licence on 30 June 2019

THANK YOU BOSS (App S Uzair) dropped his reins approaching the 400M. The Stewards observed that the gelding did not lose any momentum as a consequence.

Between the 400M and the 300M, MAREA NEGRO was disappointed for a clear run on the heels of MOON BABY (J Low) and EL TORDILLO (HS Gill) before being shifted inwards to obtain a clear passage.

At about 200M, PANCA DELIMA (App CK Khaw) commenced to shift outwards under pressure.

At about the 100M, ELITE SILENCER (C Goon) was disappointed for a run on the heels of FUNKADELIC, and was shifted abruptly outwards.

At the 50M, SATELLITE BOY (S Ruzaini) laid outwards under pressure.

The Stewards enquired into an incident at about the 900M in which MR MOSA (App L de Souza) was eased to avoid the heels of DYNAMIC EAGLE (M Ganeesh). After hearing evidence from both riders in the presence of App L de Souza’s Master Trainer, R Lines, and viewing the video evidence which was inconclusive, the Stewards warned Jockey M Ganeesh that he must take greater care to allow space to runners on his inside in similar circumstances in future.

RACE 6 (R389) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Trainer C Leck was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on NOVA RANGER (Y Aify).

Jockey R Woodworth reported after the race that FIRST DANCE anticipated the start and lunged at the gate while it was still closed, causing him to shift backwards and to be slowly away.

BLACK THORN (J Mallyon) jumped awkwardly outwards and despite the rider’s efforts to correct, carried RAJA MAHKOTA (App CK Khaw) outwards. RAJA MAHKOTA then bumped with WE’RE THE WORLD (M Ganeesh) which was placed in restricted room as WOW (S Muniandy) shifted inwards. At this point, RAJA MAHKOTA and WE’RE THE WORLD both became unbalanced, and RAJA MAHKOTA bumped BLACK THORN back inwards. Jockey S Muniandy, the rider of WOW, was shown the vision of this incident and was warned to take greater care when shifting across from a wide draw under similar circumstances in future.

METALLOCENE (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

At about the 300M, WE’RE THE WORLD laid inwards under pressure and had to be corrected to avoid contact with INNIMINYMINEMOW (HS Gill).

Approaching the 200M, BLACK THORN was disappointed for a run on the heels of FIRST DANCE and RAJA MAHKOTA, and shifted abruptly outwards around RAJA MAHKOTA and AWATERE (S Salee) to obtain a clear passage.

At the 100M, CONDADO (KC Wong) was disappointed for a run on the heels of FIRST DANCE and was thereafter trapped behind rivals with no opportunity to improve his position leaving the rider unable to use his full vigour.

HARBOUR APPROACH (Y Aify) reared as the gates opened and was slow to begin.

SUPERSTARDOM (J Low) jumped awkwardly inwards, over-raced in the early stages and raced greenly when in cover.

ELITE GOLD (HS Gill) which was slow to begin, was urged to recover his position at about the 1000M, whereupon Jockey HS Gill was forced to check to avoid the heels of THE LAWMAN (App S Uzair).

At about the 900M, FLYING SHADOW (S Anandan) was eased to avoid the heels of DRAGON KINGDOM (KC Wong), which shifted inwards, and in doing so, FLYING SHADOW rolled slightly inwards and placed HARBOUR APPROACH in restricted room. Jockey KC Wong was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he should take greater care to leave room for runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 300M, FLYING SHADOW laid slightly inwards and brushed with HARBOUR APPROACH.

Trainer BT Lim was questioned about the disappointing performance of ELITE GOLD. He stated that the horse would be better suited by a longer distance than the 1200M of today’s race, and consequently the interference in the early stages which placed ELITE GOLD well-back in the field was significant. He added that the Barrier Practice on 19th March which he had intended to be part of ELITE GOLD’s preparation for this race was unfortunately cancelled.

SOON SEEKER (App S Uzair) was slow to begin.

BRILLIANT STAR (App CK Khaw) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1100M, as the pace slowed, CHAR KWAY TEOW (M Ganeesh) was shifted outwards to avoid the heels of OPTIMUS (App L De Souza) and MR WOLFF (S Muniandy) was eased to avoid the heels of OPTIMUS. At this point, ARC CARA (J Mallyon) was crowded between CHAR KWAY TEOW, which shifted outwards, and VOYAGER. After viewing the video of the incident, the Stewards were unable to attribute blame to any one rider and deemed it a racing incident.

Approaching the 1000M, SOON SEEKER (App S Uzair) was eased to avoid the heels of BRILLIANT STAR (App CK Khaw) and threw its head up in response.

At about the 200M, SOON SEEKER was shifted outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of ARC CARA, but then had to check and shift inwards to avoid the heels of VOYAGER, which laid inwards under pressure.

When questioned, Jockey C Goon stated that ELITE GENERAL hesitated as the gate opened and was then timid when crowded by VOYAGER (KC Wong) to his outside. He explained that the bad jump had made more it more difficult for him to carry out his riding instructions, which were to lead. ELITE GENERAL eventually reached the lead at about the 1000M.

VELLENEX GENERAL (S Ruzaini) shifted outwards under pressure from the 200M.

App L De Souza, the rider of MEGUSTO, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, reported that the pin came off his stirrup leather before the 1000M and for the remainder of the race he had only one iron. The Stewards inspected the equipment which was found to be in serviceable condition. The explanations were noted. The Stewards will commence an investigation and an inquiry will be opened should further information come to light.

Jockey C Goon, the rider of LIM’S GREETING, reported that the bit ring broke, which hampered his ability to steer the gelding. He therefore felt it prudent to ease LIM’S GREETING to the outside on safety grounds. The Stewards examined the broken equipment and were satisfied with his explanation.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 11 (R318) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE A), SUNDAY, 10 MARCH 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 30 March 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the circumstances of Jockey SU Lim being dislodged from MUSANG KING on the way to the starting position.

Jockey SU Lim reported that he was waiting for the Club pony to accompany MUSANG KING to the start but when it failed to arrive, he attempted to proceed to the start unaccompanied. At this point, MUSANG KING bucked and unseated him.

Trainer SY Lim reported that MUSANG KING is quirky but behaves better when alongside other horses. He will ensure that the gelding is mounted in the saddling yard in future and sets off for the start early in order to avoid him becoming stranded with no company.

The Stewards informed Trainer SY Lim that a warning was placed on MUSANG KING for his poor behaviour and if he does not become more tractable, further action may be taken.

RACING STEWARDS’ REPORT – FRIDAY, 29 MARCH 2019

APPEAL BY JOCKEY THANGGARAJANEESH S/O MUNUSAMY (M GANEESH) AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF SIX (6) MONTHS AND FINE OF RM20,000/- FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “WE’RE THE WORLD” IN RACE 5 (R170), CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A) ON WEDNESDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2019 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

The Selangor Turf Club Racing Stewards heard the above appeal on 29 March 2019.

After considering submissions from Jockey M Ganeesh, Trainer SY Lim, and the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards allowed the appeal in part and the suspension of 6 months was reduced to 3 months. Acting under the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), and the evidence tendered by Trainer SY Lim that he would have difficulty in finding a replacement rider for Jockey M Ganeesh’s booked rides on the 30th and 31st March 2019, the Racing Stewards allowed the commencement of the suspension to be deferred until 1st April 2019. It will expire on 30th June 2019, both dates inclusive.

The Racing Stewards directed that the fine of RM20,000/- imposed by the Stipendiary Panel should stand. They ordered the deposit to be refunded.

THURSDAY, 28 MARCH 2019, SLTC

During a routine stable inspection on 28th March 2019, Trainer L Moy’s monthly stable return, which had been submitted on 8th March 2019, was found to contain several errors.

Trainer L Moy admitted that he had not complied with his responsibilities under MRA Rules 33(6) and 33(7), in that he submitted a record of the horses in his stables which was inaccurate. The Stewards noted that he had been warned in March 2018 to improve in this regard. Trainer L Moy was fined RM250/- under the provisions of MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with the aforementioned rules.

TUESDAY, 26 MARCH 2019, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TEST

A post-trial veterinary examination of CALLIXTUS (E98) revealed that it returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 10 MARCH 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R308) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (SHORT COURSE A)

Jockey R Shafiq admitted a breach under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) as read with MRA Rule 107(9) in that he accepted the ride on SOKOR GEDEBE which was allotted to carry 52.5kgs, which is below his stated normal riding weight of 54kgs. However, he did not apply or instruct Trainer M Sukri to apply to the Stewards for overweight to be carried under the provisions of MRA Rule 107(9).

Jockey R Shafiq was fined RM500/-. As the Stewards considered that no other suitable rider was available, he was allowed to ride SOKOR GEDEBE at the weight of 54kgs.

MEGUSTO (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

At about the 1000M, ANAK WARRIOR (J Mallyon) became awkwardly placed on the heels of SMIDDY BYRNE (App S Uzair) causing Jockey J Mallyon to check and shift inside.

At about the 300M, NASI LEMAK (R Rueven) was inclined to lay inwards.

At the 200M, SEMIFREDDO (HS Gill) laid inwards under pressure and briefly crowded HAHA BABE (S Anandan).

Approaching the 100M, RED EMPRESS (Y Aify) was denied a clear run on the heels of PHANTASOS (S Ruzaini) and MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah), and had to be eased and shifted outside to obtain a clear passage.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of VALERIUS, was observed to use his whip forward off the shoulder in the forehand position in the last 100M. The Stewards deemed this to be unnecessary and he was warned that a repetition of such in future may lead to action being taken.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of PHANTASOS (S Ruzaini), Trainer C Leck stated that he had varied the gelding’s training regime to freshen him before this race. He also considered today’s field to be weaker than which PHANTASOS had previously faced.

RAMIFICATIONS (App A Zaimuddin) jumped awkwardly inwards and had to be eased and corrected.

SUPER EIGHT (O Chavez) had to be urged in the early stages.

At about the 900M, LION CITY GOLD (App CK Khaw) rolled inwards on the bend causing ACME (App A Suriya) to be eased in order to avoid his heels.

LOVE GOES AROUND (App N Varmah) raced wide throughout, and laid outwards approaching the 400M. App N Varmah reported that his saddle had slipped backwards, and therefore his ability to control his mount was limited.

Approaching the 400M, ELEGANT DANCER (HS Gill) was disappointed for a run on the heels of LIM’S RANGER (Y Aify).

At about the 200M, RANT AND RAVE (J De Souza) was denied a clear run as the gap between LIM’S RANGER on his inside and SUPER GOOD (SU Lim) on his outside narrowed. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 100M, SEA HORIZON (App L De Souza) was denied a run on the heels of RED SAPPHIRE (App WW Cheah).

RACE 3 (R310) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1300M (SHORT COURSE A)

RUNNING FLAME (R Shafiq) reared slightly on jumping and was then tightened between HYDRANT (S Ruzaini), which jumped outwards, and E SUPREME (S Anandan).

ASIA (App CK Khaw) laid outwards shortly after the jump and had to be corrected.

READY TO RULE (App L De Souza) was slow to begin and had to be urged to recover.

SUN COIN (SU Lim) laid outwards under pressure from the 200M.

Jockey R Shafiq reported that RUNNING FLAME, which suffered interference at the jump, over-raced in the early stages. RUNNING FLAME was also inconvenienced at the 400M by D’GREAT RUN (HK Cheng) which laid outwards.

Jockey R Rueven, the rider of INDOMITABLE SPEED, reported that his horse raced greenly.

When questioned, App L De Souza stated that the gelding, which was wearing Blinkers for the first time, was frightened when he brushed the quarters of ELEGENT (R Shafiq) shortly after the jump, and shied away. He further explained that having got a bad jump, he found himself with no opportunity to improve his position in the early stages and was therefore positioned well-back. He commenced his effort at about the 600M whereupon DETERMINETOSTRIKE responded just fairly and kept on at one pace. He also reported that DETERMINETOSTRIKE laid outwards under pressure, but as this took him towards the outside where a clear run was available, he did not attempt to correct.

MORALES (R Rueven) and D’GREAT WALL (HS Gill) were slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, SEGAR THE BEST (App A Zaimuddin) laid inwards causing TAUROS (Y Aify) to be taken inwards towards DETERMINETOSTRIKE which was crowded.

At about the 400M, MORALES laid inwards and brushed with TAUROS.

At about the 300M, NOVA BATTLE (HK Cheng) shifted outwards in response to SEGAR THE BEST laying outwards towards him and in doing so, NOVA BATTLE brushed with DETERMINETOSTRIKE.

Between the 200M and the 100M, JUBILATION (App A Suriya) shifted outwards under pressure.

App A Suriya who rode his 10th winner on JUBILATION in this race, would only be entitled to claim 3kgs allowance as from Monday, 11 March 2019.

BULLISH LUCK (Y Aify) was bumped inwards by D’GREAT HAWK (App CK Khaw) at the jump, and was slow to begin.

SNOW DANCER (S Anandan) had to be urged in the early stages.

ASHQAR (S Ruzaini) which was drawn outside, raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 300M, D’GREAT HAWK was briefly denied a run on the heels of BULLISH LUCK.

LIM’S GREETING raced wide throughout. When questioned, App A Zaimuddin, the rider of LIM’S GREETING, stated that he would have preferred to go forward in the early stages and thus avoid being trapped wide. However, he was hampered in his efforts to do so as the bit was only in partial contact with the gelding’s mouth. A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S GREETING revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At about the 500M, WILLIAM KING (App A Suriya) was shifted outwards to obtain a clear passage and in doing so, brushed with WINNING STAR (HK Cheng).

REAL MEAN which was following WILLIAM KING, was disappointed for a run at about the 600M.

MACHUNG STAR which was beaten 17 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned about the improved performance of BACK TO THE TOWERS (SU Lim), Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding had suffered interference and been shuffled back during the early stages in his last start, and had then finished off the race disappointingly. He explained that BACK TO THE TOWERS was down in grade today and he considered this race to be significantly weaker.

RACE 8 (R315) CLASS 3 – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

Acting on veterinary advice that RACER KING (S Anandan) had sustained multiple skin lacerations to both of its hind legs (float injury), the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 3:05pm. RACER KING will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

MAJOR TOM (App N Varmah) stood still as the barrier opened and forfeited significant ground. When MAJOR TOM eventually did consent to jump, he shifted abruptly inwards causing the rider to become unbalanced. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again to establish that it is capable in jumping on terms.

STAR INVINCIBLE (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly.

At about the 1400M, D’GREAT VULTURE (App CK Khaw) laid inwards and briefly crowded I AM THE BOSS (App L De Souza). BROTHER WIND (R Rueven) which was following D’GREAT VULTURE, also laid inwards and thereafter commenced to over-race when placed in restricted room by FIRST DANCE (S Muniandy). Jockey S Muniandy was shown the vision of this incident and warned by the Stewards to leave sufficient space to runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 800M and the 700M, LA FAMILIA (R Shafiq) which was over-racing, had to be sharply checked to avoid running onto the heels of I AM THE BOSS as the pace of the race slowed.

At the 500M, OUT OF NOWHERE (Y Aify) was disappointed for a run on the heels of STAR INVINCIBLE and when shifted outwards to obtain a clear passage, brushed with LISTEN (J Mallyon). In doing so, OUT OF NOWHERE became briefly unbalanced and laid outwards between the 500M and the 400M.

When questioned on the tactics employed on LA FAMILIA (R Shafiq) which had led all the way when winning its previous start, Trainer SB Tan stated that in his opinion that today’s race was much stronger being a Class 3 rather than Class 4, and he felt that the gelding would not benefit from being put under pressure in the early stages. He therefore instructed Jockey R Shafiq to obtain a forward-midfield position but not to challenge for the lead. The Stewards noted his explanation but warned him that in future he must comply with his responsibilities under MRA Rule 35(8) which relates to changes of riding tactics and responsibilities of Trainers to notify the Stewards of such.

RACE 9 (R316) CLASS 4 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

GOLD MOSA (App CK Khaw) was slow to find its stride.

MOON BABY (HS Gill) was slow to begin but soon recovered to take a prominent position. MOON BABY over-raced in the early and middle stages and did not settle when established in the lead. At the 100M, MOON BABY commenced to compound, laid outwards and became awkwardly placed on the heels of HERO CHAMPION (J Mallyon), forcing the rider to ease in the concluding stages.

At the 500M, VOLANTE GENERAL (App A Suriya) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running and in doing so, laid outwards, became unbalanced, and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

At the 300M and again at the 250M, VOLANTE GENERAL laid inwards under pressure and brushed with GREENSTONE (Y Aify) which attempted the same run.

BLOOD ROYAL (App L De Souza) laid inwards under pressure between the 200M and the 100M.

At the 50M, HIGH TENSILE (R Rueven) laid outwards under pressure causing HERO CHAMPION to take evasive action, shift outwards and bump VOLANTE GENERAL outwards. GOLD MOSA, which was following VOLANTE GENERAL, had to be checked to avoid its heels. Jockey R Rueven was shown the vision of this incident and warned that he must take greater care to keep straight under similar circumstances in future.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of SACRED EMPIRE, reported that at the 400M he shifted his mount inwards to obtain a run to the inside of MR HOPKINS (S Ruzaini) but shortly afterwards, was forced to check as MR HOPKINS laid inwards and subsequently, from the 250M, was persistently denied clear running as MR HOPKINS shifted outwards in front of him. He stated that due to the interference, he was never able to fully test his mount.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of MR HOPKINS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 300M, he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not clear of SACRED EMPIRE which had to be checked.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 11 March 2019 and to expire on 17 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:15pm).

RACE 10 (R317) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE A)

TAKE A BOW (App S Uzair) was slow to find its stride.

Prior to the race, Trainer C Leck, the trainer of FRENCH VINTAGE (App A Suriya), informed the Stewards that the gelding, which was racing in different gear today with Blinkers instead of Pacifiers, would be ridden forward. FRENCH VINTAGE jumped only fairly, and App A Suriya had to urge his mount to obtain a forward position at the 1000M.

Approaching the 1000M, FRENCH VINTAGE laid outwards, and brushed with CHAIRMAN WIND (R Shafiq), in response to GHOST AFFAIR (HS Gill) on his inside shifting outwards.

At about the 400M, PERFECT RUN (App WW Cheah) was disappointed for a run on the heels of TAIL SPIN (App CK Khaw) before being shifted inwards to obtain clear running.

SCORPION KING (S Ruzaini) laid inwards under pressure approaching the 200M.

The Stewards inquired into the improved performance and the different tactics employed on TAIL SPIN today. Trainer M Sukri explained that he had deliberately given the gelding a break of 8 weeks since its last race. He was confident that TAIL SPIN would race with enthusiasm and therefore instructed App CK Khaw to get the best jump possible and sit wherever his mount was comfortable. In the event, TAIL SPIN was able to lead without being put under serious pressure. The Stewards accepted the explanations tendered but advised Trainer M Sukri that he must comply with MRA Rule 35(8) which relates to changes in riding tactics and the responsibility of Trainers to inform the Stewards of such. They also drew Trainer M Sukri’s attention of the provision of MRA Rule 117(3) regarding “in and out running”, and warned him that TAIL SPIN’s future performances will be monitored.

RACE 11 (R318) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE A)

RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN (J Mallyon) reared on jumping and was slow to begin.

VELLENEX GENERAL (S Ruzaini) jumped inwards causing ELF’S DREAM (App WW Cheah) and ONCE A THIEF (App S Uzair) to be crowded between VELLENEX GENERAL and LIM’S ACTION (App A Zaimuddin), which jumped outwards. ONCE A THIEF lost significant ground as a result. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Approaching the 1000M, VELLENEX GENERAL, which was over-racing, shifted inwards and crowded LIM’S ACTION.

At the 800M, LIM’S ACTION was tightened between PERCIUS on his inside and ELF’S DREAM on his outside, became unbalanced, and shifted abruptly outwards, causing ONCE A THIEF, which was following, to take evasive action. RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN, was eased to avoid contact with ONCE A THIEF’s heels. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

The Stewards inquired into possible interference between ELITE GUSTAVO (App CK Khaw) and PERCIUS (R Rueven); firstly approaching the 250M and secondly, at the 200M.

After reviewing the vision of these incidents and taking evidence from App CK Khaw and Jockey R Rueven, they determined that interference had taken place at the 250M when ELITE GUSTAVO shifted inwards causing PERCIUS, which was following, to change direction. The Stewards warned App CK Khaw, in the presence of his Master Trainer R Lines, that he must take greater care to keep straight under similar circumstances in future. They noted Jockey R Rueven’s evidence that the interference he received at the 200M was caused by VELLENEX GENERAL laying inwards as he shifted outwards in an attempt to obtain a clear run.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of VELLENEX GENERAL, Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding had not been suited by a shorter distance of 1100M on its last start. He added that VELLENEX GENERAL has lost a significant amount of weight since its last start on 25 February 2019 and was 20kgs lighter today. The Stewards observed that VELLENEX GENERAL has never previously won a race when its body weight was greater than 487kgs, and it was 485kgs today. They noted the explanation tendered.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 23 FEBRUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R238) CLASS 5 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

ACME (S Ruzaini) was slow to find its stride.

RED RACKHAM (S Salee) jumped outwards, causing EAGLE SOAR (J De Souza) to be carried outwards and to be tightened on the inside of MUSANG KING (SU Lim).

NASI LEMAK (J Mallyon) was crowded on jumping between SWINGLOWSWEETJACKY (Y Aify) and MUSANG KING.

EAGLE SOAR laid outwards in the middle stages and continued to race wide in the straight. When questioned, Jockey J De Souza stated that after suffering interference at the jump, EAGLE SOAR commenced to over-race and took charge of him around the bend. He added that the gelding laid persistently outwards and was not responsive to any attempts to correct. EAGLE SOAR threw its head up at about the 500M and then continued to lay outwards on straightening. Trainer R Lines was advised that the Stewards placed a warning on EAGLE SOAR to improve its racing manners, failing which action may be taken against the gelding.

Between the 500M and the 400M, ACME was disappointed for a run on the heels of PHANTASOS (C Goon).

At about the 300M, COLD WAR (R Rueven) laid outwards under pressure causing SONG KID (App L De Souza) to be eased off his heels approaching the 200M. Thereafter SONG KID laid inwards and had to be eased and corrected at about the 100M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri into the improved performance of the winner, RED RACKHAM. Trainer M Sukri stated that the gelding had thrived and improved in condition since its last start, 8 weeks previously. He added that today’s race was the weakest that RED RACKHAM had contested.

RACE 2 (R239) CLASS 5 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

GLORY KID (App A Suriya) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 300M, WHAT (App S Uzair) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of SUPER GOOD (J De Souza). At this point, PERCIUS (R Rueven) which was attempting the same run, was disappointed and was thereafter shifted to the outside of WHAT.

ELITE KINGDOM (App A Zaimuddin) had to be angled through a narrow gap between LINING TOGETHER (KC Wong) and the rail at about the 150M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri, the representative of Trainer PS Kumaran, the trainer of POLO GAGA (S Ruzaini) into the disappointing performance of the mare. Trainer M Sukri stated that prior to the race, the connections were concerned that the 1100M distance of today’s race may be insufficient. He added that POLO GAGA had over-raced in the early stages.

RACE 3 (R240) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

ZENZERO (C Goon) was slow to begin.

SAND BANK (R Rueven) jumped inwards. The Stewards observed that at the time of the gates opening, SAND BANK’s head was turned inwards, which Jockey R Rueven made no attempt to correct. The Stewards warned Jockey R Rueven that he must take all reasonable measures to ensure that his mounts jump straight in future.

LOVE GOES AROUND (S Ruzaini) was slow to find its stride and had to be urged to remain in touch in the early stages.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (J De Souza) lost its position, having been slightly crowded by ELF’S DREAM (App WW Cheah) at the jump.

Approaching the 200M, ZOLVED (App L De Souza) was briefly disappointed for a run on the heels of BELIEVE IT OR NOT (KC Wong) which laid outwards.

App L De Souza, the rider of ZOLVED, reported after the race that his saddle slipped backwards during running.

When questioned, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of THAI BAHT, stated that the gelding who had won over a longer distance of 1400M on its last start, was unable to keep up with the early pace today and then laid inwards under pressure in the straight. He therefore did not use his whip until THAI BAHT had clear running directly in front of him at about the 200M, for fear that the gelding would shift further inwards and cause interference.

The Stewards drew the attention of Trainer S Dunderdale to a report from Dr Shri Kanth, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon of SLTC, that SAND BANK’s off hind shoe appeared to be very thin and worn. SAND BANK cast its off hind shoe during the race. Trainer S Dunderdale explained that SAND BANK is a highly strung horse, and was fractious in the pre-race holding yard and repeatedly kicked out at the concrete wall of the holding stall. He added that this may have contributed to the off hind plate being loosened, although he personally checked it before the running of the race.

RACE 4 (R241) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

SCRAT (J Mallyon) and NATION THEATRE (App A Suriya) were both slow to begin.

ONCE A THIEF (App J Daniel) jumped awkwardly outwards and brushed the side of the gate and was slow to find its stride as a consequence.

ABEBE (AM Aizat) was outpaced in the early stages. Jockey AM Aizat, when questioned, stated that ABEBE needs more distance and the gelding has a tendency to become unbalanced under pressure, therefore he felt it prudent to simply keep him up to his work and attempt to keep in touch in the early and middle stages. He explained that on straightening, ABEBE changed his lead leg and ran on strongly despite receiving some interference from ONCE A THIEF at about the 100M.

At about the 500M, SCRAT was denied a run on the heels of SATELLITE GOLDEN (Y Aify) which rolled inwards away from the heels of FLYING SHADOW (SU Lim).

At the 100M, GOOD PEOPLE (J De Souza) laid outwards under pressure causing ONCE A THIEF to be taken outwards onto ABEBE which was inconvenienced.

NATION THEATRE was persistently denied a run in the last 100M and App A Suriya was unable to ride out with his full vigour.

ALIEN (KC Wong) laid outwards under pressure in the last 50M causing the rider to use hands and heels only in an attempt to keep straight. A post-race veterinary examination of ALIEN revealed that it returned broken-winded and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey J Mallyon, the rider of SCRAT, reported that the mare was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SCRAT revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 5 (R242) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SATELLITE BOY (Z Khairil) laid outwards on jumping and brushed with SACRED SURFER (J De Souza).

HAPPY DAYZ (SU Lim) was slow to begin, was soon well behind and outpaced, and was never able to be competitive. Jockey SU Lim reported after the race that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of HAPPY DAYZ revealed no significant finding. The gelding which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

WAR DRAGON (Y Aify) jumped inwards and crowded PRINCE RAVEN (S Ruzaini).

SHELLOMADA (HS Gill) was badly crowded at the jump between CONDADO (App CK Khaw) and FIRST COMMAND (R Rueven). Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SHELLOMADA, reported that apart from the interference, the gelding might have been placed as its finished the race strongly. App CK Khaw, the rider of CONDADO, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, was shown the vision of the incident, and warned that he must take all possible measures to keep his horses straight at the jump and to avoid using his whip which may cause a horse to jump awkwardly.

From the 400M, FIRST COMMAND laid inwards under pressure causing D’GREAT LIGHT (KC Wong), which was following, to be taken inwards and awkwardly placed on the heels of RACER KING (HK Cheng) at about the 300M.

From approaching the 200M, D’GREAT LIGHT was shifted outwards to obtain clear running but was disappointed for a run on the heels of LISTEN (AM Aizat) at the 50M.

From the 100M, CONDADO laid outwards under pressure.

LIM’S CASINO (C Goon) which was beaten 13 ¼ lengths will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of SACRED SURFER (J De Souza), Trainer F Maynard stated that the gelding was racing in a higher class today and had not been suited by becoming involved in a battle for the lead in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SACRED SURFER revealed no significant finding.

Approaching the 1200M, ELITE CONQUEROR (App A Zaimuddin) commenced to over-race in response to the pace slowing, causing App A Zaimuddin to restrain the gelding and Jockey SU Lim, the rider of BACK TO THE TOWERS, which was following, to restrain to avoid the heels of ELITE CONQUEROR.

Having suffered interference before the 200M, ELITE CONQUEROR was shifted outwards to obtain clear running from the 200M.

KING OPERA which was beaten 16 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned regarding the improved run of FIRST PRECINCT (R Shafiq), Trainer S Dunderdale stated that the gelding had benefitted from the fitting of a pacifier today which enabled the horse to relax better in the middle stages and therefore have more energy left for the finish. He added that FIRST PRECINCT had trialled well since his last start 5 weeks previously.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of BRILLIANT DEAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 400M, he allowed his horse to shift outwards when not clear of MAIDANZ BEAUTY, which was badly crowded to the inside of BLOOD ROYAL, which was also taken slightly outwards.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey A Aucharuz’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 February 2019 and to expire on 3 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App L De Souza, the rider of BLOOD ROYAL, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift inwards between the 400M and the 300M without sufficient correction causing interference to BRILLIANT DEAL and causing ELITE CONQUEROR to be awkwardly placed on the heels of BRILLIANT DEAL.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App L De Souza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 February 2019 and to expire on 3 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 7 (R217) CLASS 4 (A) – 1700M (LONG COURSE A)

TRIPLE ONE STAR (App WW Cheah) jumped inwards causing SUNNY (J De Souza) to be crowded between TRIPLE ONE STAR and GHOST EMPEROR (AM Aizat), and lose ground as a consequence. App WW Cheah, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he must exercise greater care to keep his horses straight at the jump.

BLOOD ROYAL (App L De Souza) laid outwards on jumping, causing JJ STAR (HK Cheng) and CONFOUND (HS Gill) to be taken outwards in response and as a result CONFOUND was awkwardly placed on the heels of LA FAMILIA (R Shafiq) in the first few strides.

BACK TO THE TOWERS (SU Lim) raced keenly in the early stages and got its head up at about the 1200M when restrained to follow LA FAMILIA, which took the lead.

Approaching the 1000M, GROUND CONTROL (Y Aify) was eased to avoid the heels of D’GREAT ACHIEVER (KC Wong). GROUND CONTROL was again eased off the heels of D’GREAT ACHIEVER at about the 800M.

JJ STAR raced wide in the middle stages.

Approaching the 400M, D’GREAT ACHIEVER laid outwards causing AUSONE (S Ruzaini) to be angled outwards in order to avoid the heels of D’GREAT ACHIEVER and as a consequence, to be disappointed for a run on the heels of CONFOUND.

BACK TO THE TOWERS laid inwards under pressure from about the 300M.

Jockey Y Aify, the rider of GROUND CONTROL, was observed by a Stipendiary Steward to be shouting out to Jockey KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT ACHIEVER, when their respective mounts returned to the unsaddling area. When questioned, Jockey Y Aify stated that he was upset as he felt that Jockey KC Wong had inconvenienced him during the race. The Stewards warned Jockey Y Aify to control his temper in future and that a recurrence of a similar behavior may lead to a penalty being imposed.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CONFOUND, Trainer R Lines stated that he felt that the gelding has had a busy racing schedule and would benefit from a break. Accordingly, he will send CONFOUND for a spell.

MAJOR TOM (App A Suriya) stood still as the gates opened, was slow to begin and forfeited ground.

At about the 1400M, SACRED GALAXY (KC Wong) shifted inwards causing SATELLITE PRINCE (Z Khairil) to be eased to avoid running onto his heels.

Jockey J Low, the rider of RUM N RAISINS, dropped his whip at about the 500M, RUM N RAISINS finished tailed out and was beaten 18 ¾ lengths. The Stewards observed that the dropped whip made no difference to the running of RUM N RAISINS and warned Jockey J Low that a recurrence may lead to action being taken against him.  RUM N RAISINS will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At about the 200M, OUT OF NOWHERE (App J Daniel) commenced to shift outwards under pressure and at about the 100M, laid outwards towards TIGER BAY (J De Souza) which was taken outwards. At about the 75M, TIGER BAY laid inwards away from a right-handed drive and bumped once with OUT OF NOWHERE.

An objection was lodged by App J Daniel, the rider of OUT OF NOWHERE, placed second against TIGER BAY (J De Souza) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 75M which had affected App J Daniel’s momentum. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

RACE 9 (R219) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

DANZEB (R Shafiq) brushed with RAINBOW FISH (App L De Souza) on jumping.

In the early stages, BROTHER WIND (J De Souza) showed a tendency to over-race and laid inwards and approaching the 1000M, bumped with JERAM VILLAGE (S Ruzaini) which was also racing greenly.

MAINDANZ BEAUTY (App A Suriya) shifted persistently outwards under pressure from the 100M, forcing the rider to ease and correct in order to avoid contact with BROTHER WIND. When questioned, App A Suriya stated that in the last 100M, MAIDANZ BEAUTY commenced to lay outwards when tiring. He felt that at this stage, his mount was only capable of one-pace and he rode with hands and heels only in an attempt to keep his balance and to straighten the mare who was in danger of causing interference.

Trainer C Leck was questioned regarding the improved form shown by MAINDANZ BEAUTY. He explained that the mare is dry-coated and as such will only maintain her best condition inside an air-conditioned stall. He stated that he has recently taken steps to improve the air-conditioning in his stables which seemed to benefit MAINDANZ BEAUTY.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 16 FEBRUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R201) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

ACME (S Ruzaini) jumped outwards and brushed with GOOD VIBRATIONS (J De Souza), which was carried inwards by SUPER JOY (App A Suriya). ACME was then  buffeted by GOOD VIBRATIONS for several strides. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of ACME, was questioned regarding the gelding’s disappointing performance. He stated that he was instructed to take a midfield position but due to the interference at the start, ACME got behind whereupon the gelding commenced to race ungenerously and was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of ACME revealed no significant finding.

MUSANG KING (S Mutaza) was shifted inwards to obtain clear running at the 400M and was thereafter disappointed for a run on the heels of ZOLVED (KC Wong) and ELITE GUSTAVO (AM Aizat) at about the 200M.

MUSANG KING was dislodged after the line. Jockey S Mutaza who was subsequently sent to hospital for further observation, was stood down by the Club Doctor for the remainder of the races today and was exempted from weighing in under the provisions of MRA Rule 121(5).

ASHQAR (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

RAMIFICATIONS (App A Zaimuddin) jumped inwards and brushed with MIROTIC (Y Aify) which in turn brushed with SNOW DANCER (J Low). Thereafter SNOW DANCER lost its position and raced ungenerously in the early stages.

GOOD PEOPLE (J De Souza) showed a limited response to strong pressure in the middle stages and from the 200M, laid outwards slightly causing ASHQAR to be inconvenienced. A post-race veterinary examination of GOOD PEOPLE revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of SNOW DANCER revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of DOMINATE (Z Khairil) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

RACE 3 (R203) CLASS 4 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of TRUMPS UP, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1/2kg over his declared weight.

PANCA DELIMA (R Shafiq) shifted backwards and placed its head one side of the barrier, and was obstinate and intractable when the Barrier Handler attempted to correct. Trainer SB Tan was informed by the Stewards that a warning was placed on PANCA DELIMA due to its barrier manners and a recurrence may result in a test being imposed on the gelding.

NOVA WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) reared slightly as the gates opened and jumped awkwardly inwards, and brushed the left side of the gates. Thereafter NOVA WARRIOR over-raced and was racing fiercely without cover at about the 900M.

SUN FORCE (SU Lim) was slow to begin and was soon well-outpaced. A post-race veterinary examination of SUN FORCE revealed that it was lame off hind and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

PROUD PINOY (J Low) dipped in the first few strides. When questioned, Jockey J Low stated that this incident did not affect his intended racing tactics as his plan was to drop PROUD PINOY in behind other runners and obtain cover. However he was unable to do so due to NOVA WARRIOR over-racing on his inside and was therefore forced to race wide in the middle stages and forfeit ground. A post-race veterinary examination of PROUD PINOY revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

IMMORTALITY (J Mallyon) had to check to avoid the heels of PROUD PINOY at about the 1000M, and was thereafter shifted inside.

At about the 900M, KUTTNER (KC Wong) was over-racing on the heels of SUN FORCE.

Approaching the 800M, SANGKURIANG (J De Souza) was held up for clear running on the heels of D’GREAT SONG (HK Cheng).

Between the 600M and the 450M, ROMAN WELLS was disappointed for a run on the heels of D’GREAT SONG.

Approaching 200M, KUTTNER laid inwards in response to a right-handed drive and thereafter had to shift outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil). Approaching the 100M, LUCKY SIXTYSIX drifted outwards under pressure causing KUTTNER and TRUMPS UP to be taken outwards.

Approaching the 200M, ROMAN WELLS (App A Suriya) commenced to shift outwards under pressure and approaching the 100M, caused IMMORTALITY to be taken outwards and crowded on the inside of PROUD PINOY. App A Suriya was shown the vision of this incident and warned by the Stewards to take greater care to keep straight under similar circumstances in future.

LIGHTNING HERO (C Goon) was slow to begin.

ORIENTAL SPIRIT (J Mallyon) over-raced in the early stages.

Approaching the 1000M, BUKIT SUBANG (App L De Souza) was forced to slightly ease off the heels of WINGED FOOT (KC Wong).

VALERIUS (SU Lim) which raced keenly, got its head up in response to being crossed by AUSSIE EAGLE (AM Aizat), forcing the rider to check. Jockey AM Aizat was questioned about this incident and stated that AUSSIE EAGLE was racing keenly in response to ORIENTAL SPIRIT and VALERIUS over-racing in close proximity to him. The gelding then shifted abruptly inwards with no warning, causing VALERIUS to check. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 300M, GORDON G (HK Cheng) shifted briefly inwards under pressure and brushed with VALERIUS.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of WINGED FOOT (KC Wong), Trainer R Lines stated that the gelding, which normally gets behind due to lack of early speed, had benefitted from the tepid early pace on this occasion which allowed him to be handily placed.

RACE 5 (R205) OPEN MAIDEN – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

ANTHEIA (S Ruzaini) slipped on jumping and veered sharply inwards, causing MR WASHINGTON (AM Aizat) to be taken inwards onto DONT MIND IFIDO (J Low) which became crowded between MR WASHINGTON and PREMIUM RUSH (App J Daniel).

Approaching the 1000M, SATELLITE MASTER (Z Khairil) commenced to over-race in response to being crossed by DONT MIND IFIDO which then slowed in response to PREMIUM RUSH slowing in front.

Approaching the 600M, DONT MIND IFIDO commenced to hang fiercely outwards, barely negotiated the bend, forfeited significant ground and thereafter raced very wide. DONT MIND IFIDO which was beaten 27 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance and difficult racing manners. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that DONT MIND IFIDO returned with a cut on the off hind.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SATELLITE MASTER, Trainer S Edwards stated that in his opinion, the gelding had over-raced to some degree in its previous start over a shorter distance. He therefore instructed Jockey Z Khairil to obtain cover in order to help SATELLITE MASTER settle.

Jockey Z Khairil reported that having obtained cover behind DONT MIND IFIDO, the early pace of the race slowed and the field compacted in the early stages. He therefore found himself trapped on heels with no opportunity to make progress until about the 500M, whereupon SATELLITE MASTER commenced to lay outwards under pressure, and then responded just fairly.

Trainer S Edwards added that the slow pace of the race was against SATELLITE MASTER today, and the fact that the gelding just raced 6 days previously may also have affected its performance. The Stewards noted these explanations.

RACE 6 (R206) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Trainer S Dunderdale was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on ARC CARA (SU Lim).

PARISBAS (Y Aify) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, GOLD POWER (KC Wong) laid outwards briefly causing ARC CARA to be shifted wide.

WILLIAM KING (C Goon) raced wide from the 800M. Jockey C Goon was shown the vision of this section of the race and advised by the Stewards that in future he must take positive measures to obtain an advantageous position and not lose ground by racing wide. In this incident, the Stewards informed him that he could have taken a position directly in front of PARISBAS and therefore avoided being forced wide.

Approaching the 400M, MACHUNG STAR (J Low) laid inwards under pressure causing MOON BABY (HS Gill) to be taken inwards, and GOLD POWER (KC Wong) laid outwards under pressure causing MARY KING (App A Zaimuddin) to be taken outwards onto ARC CARA.

Approaching the 300M, GOLD POWER laid inwards causing BELLA VELOCE (J Mallyon) to be briefly crowded, BELLA VELOCE then obtained clear running, as GOLD POWER subsequently rolled outwards.

Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of MR WOLFF, which was unplaced, weighed in at 1.1kgs lighter than his allotted weight. Shortly afterwards, it was discovered by a Stipendiary Steward that the lead bag had not been in his possession when he weighed in. It was found nearby on the floor, where it had been inadvertently removed with the number cloth. The weight of the lead bag was sufficient to make up the difference within the accepted level of tolerance as specified in MRA Rule 121(2) and as such MR WOLFF was deemed to have carried correct weight.

RACE 7 (R207) METRO A – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

HIGH COUNCIL (J Low) was soon outpaced and never competitive. Jockey J Low reported that the gelding was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of HIGH COUNCIL revealed no significant finding. The gelding, which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Approaching the 1000M, LUCKY JUSTICE (AM Aizat) shied away from SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (KC Wong) causing AWATERE (S Salee) to be crowded on the inside.

Approaching the 600M, SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (KC Wong) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SUPER MARIO (SU Lim).

At about the 100M, DUKE OF NORMANDY (App S Rosmizan) was forced to shift outwards for clear running in response to being crossed by PANDA BOMB (App A Suriya) which laid inwards under pressure. The Stewards reviewed the vision of the incident and concluded that PANDA BOMB was clear at the time of the crossing, and no interference had occurred.

A post-race veterinary examination of AWATERE revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned as to the improved performance shown by PANDA BOMB today, Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding performs best when he obtains a prominent position. In its last start, in a stronger race, PANDA BOMB jumped awkwardly and suffered interference in the early stages which placed him at a disadvantage.

RACE 8 (R208) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Trainer SB Tan was warned for failing to ensure that the deworming status of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini) was updated.

PLAYBOY SOON (App S Uzair) brushed with FLYING WINNER (R Shafiq) on jumping.

APOLLO (App A Suriya) was slow to begin. App A Suriya reported that his saddle slipped backwards on jumping.

At about the 1000M, GREENSTONE (Z Khairil) commenced to over-race and when restrained to avoid the heels of HERO CHAMPION (J Low), laid outwards and bumped APOLLO outwards.

At about the 300M, HERO CHAMPION (J Low) commenced to shift inwards under pressure, causing FLYING WINNER, SEGAR THE BEST (App A Zaimuddin) and PLAYBOY SOON on his inside to be crowded at about the 200M. Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of GREENSTONE, which was racing in the gap between SEGAR THE BEST and PLAYBOY SOON at the 300M, reported to the Stewards that he had anticipated the gap narrowing as horses from the outside were taken inwards, and therefore as a precautionary measure, had changed direction and shifted outwards approaching the 250M.

At about the 200M, APOLLO was disappointed for a run on the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini), which compounded, and then when shifted inside to obtain clear running, was briefly crowded by ARECIBO (App L De Souza).

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider of HERO CHAMPION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 300M, he allowed his mount to shift persistently inwards under pressure causing FLYING WINNER to be crowded on his inside, and SEGAR THE BEST and PLAYBOY SOON to be seriously unbalanced and tightened to the inside of FLYING WINNER at about the 200M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) Malaysian race days with effect from 18 February 2019 and to expire on 16 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5pm).

ENCOSTA ZONE (Z Khairil) was slow to begin.

MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, TILSWORTH MALI (SU Lim) ducked abruptly outwards and bumped FRANCES (App L De Souza).

NATION THEATRE (App A Suriya) over-raced from the 1000M to the 600M.

WINTERFELL (KC Wong) showed no response to strong pressure from the 600M and commenced to lay inwards from the 400M. A post-race veterinary examination of WINTERFELL revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of KISS ME (AM Aizat) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and was lame off fore. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 10 (R210) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

STREET CHAMP (App A Suriya) was slow to find its stride, and had to be urged to obtain a forward position in the early stages.

At about the 1100M, RED SAPPHIRE (App WW Cheah) was eased to avoid the heels of EMPEROR WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) and ducked inwards, causing LIM’S ACTION (HS Gill) to be badly crowded on his inside. At the same time, COLONEL LINCOLN (S Salee) was eased to avoid the heels of SEMIFREDDO (AM Aizat) which rolled inwards. This caused a chain reaction which led to SMIDDY BYRNE (App J Daniel) being awkwardly placed on the heels of COLONEL LINCOLN and ORION (App L De Souza) being awkwardly placed on the heels of SMIDDY BYRNE whilst also being crowded by LIM’S ACTION to his outside. Jockey J Mallyon, the rider of RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN, had to take evasive action to avoid the heels of ORION causing his mount to lose ground.

At about the 400M, LIM’S ACTION was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of SEMIFREDDO, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear, causing COLONEL LINCOLN to ease and the horses following COLONEL LINCOLN to be awkwardly placed.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 February 2019 and to expire on 3 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:15pm).

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 10 (R192) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A), BRIGHT FUTURE STAKES, SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

A post-race veterinary examination of SUCCESSION (HS Gill) revealed no significant finding. SUCCESSION will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. The gelding was impounded.

RACE 9 (R191) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), GREAT WEALTH STAKES, SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 15 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of CHAR KWAY TEOW in the above race. They took evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer C Leck, the rider and trainer of CHAR KWAY TEOW. Also present to give evidence were the Starter, Assistant Starter and Barrier Attendant Khangharam Choudhary.

Trainer C Leck stated that he had instructed M Ganeesh to ride CHAR KWAY TEOW wherever comfortable, but above all not to rush the gelding in the early stages. He added that CHAR KWAY TEOW had displayed difficult barrier manners in two recent Barrier Practices and demonstrated a tendency to rear up. As such, Jockey M Ganeesh, who had ridden him in both practices, requested for the gelding to be attended to prevent a recurrence. Having reviewed the vision of the start, both Trainer C Leck and Jockey M Ganeesh stated that CHAR KWAY TEOW was responsible for his own slow jump in that the gelding shifted backwards just before the gate opened. They added that although Khangharam Choudhary had released his grip on the bridle slightly too late after the gate had opened, this had no material effect.

After reviewing the vision of the whole race after the jump, and hearing further evidence, Jockey M Ganeesh was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride CHAR KWAY TEOW to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were:

i)      Between about the 850M and the 650M, he made insufficient effort to improve his position when a clear opportunity was available to do so by progressing into the gap between DROUGHT on the outside and SOON SEEKER on the inside.

ii)     From just before the 400M to just before the 200M, he used his whip in a manner different to his normal style of riding a finish and which appeared to be less effective, in that several of his attempted strikes made little or no contact.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s riding record, his mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month. This suspension will commence on 18 February 2019, to be served consecutively following the completion of his suspension from Monday, 11 February 2019 until Sunday, 17 February 2019, both dates inclusive (2 Malaysian race days).

An application to defer the commencement of the suspension under the terms of MRA Rule 48(5) was refused. Jockey M Ganeesh was advised of his Right of Appeal against both the suspension imposed and the refusal to defer its commencement.

Jockey M Ganeesh subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal against the refusal to defer the commencement of his suspension, on the grounds that he had provisionally accepted mounts for the Selangor Turf Club race day on Saturday, 23 February 2019. A list of seven (7) potential mounts was provided to the Racing Stewards who will deliberate on his appeal.

INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING A REPORT FROM SELANGOR TURF CLUB (SLTC) MEDICAL STAFF IN RELATION TO TWO (2) HORSES TRAINED BY TRAINER S SIVA ON TUESDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2019 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB

The Stewards, on 16 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into a report from a member of the SLTC Medical Staff that he had observed two horses under the training of Trainer S Siva returning from the training track at approximately 6:08am on Tuesday, 12 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, over 20 minutes before the training track was officially open.

Trainer S Siva admitted that ALIEN and BUKIT SUBANG had used the Sand Ring before it was officially open, but stated that his staff had assumed this not to be the case as the floodlights were already operational, and the gate was open and unguarded.

The Stewards undertook to review security procedures at the training tracks. They also reminded Trainer S Siva of his responsibility to ensure that his staff comply with all Club Regulations.
