STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

(Course A – True Position)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr James Yu.

RACE 1 (R1477) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

LADY LIBERTY (J De Souza) was slow into stride.

READY TO STRIKE (App L De Souza) jumped awkwardly with its face striking the outside gate and missed the start by a considerable margin. App L De Souza advised that the mare had been standing awkwardly and had veered out when the gates opened. Trainer R Lines confirmed that he had previously experienced trouble at the start with READY TO STRIKE, and considered the heavy blow to the gate at the start had considerably affected the mare’s performance.  READY TO STRIKE will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again.

In the early stages, EMPEROR WARRIOR (App CK Khaw) raced fiercely.

MUSANG KING (S Anandan) raced wide throughout.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of FLY HIGH, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of FLY HIGH revealed no significant finding.

RACE 2 (R1478) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

After being slow into stride, SUNNY (App CK Khaw) raced wide in the early stages.

Near the 400M, WHAT (App P Deneskumar) shifted out with NOVA PHOENIX (Y Aify) veering outwards quickly to avoid its heels and this caused M SEVEN (AK Lim) having to be restrained outwards. On inquiry, whilst the Stewards consider that App P Deneskumar had been careless in his failure to restrain WHAT when in shifted, given his good recent record and current application to his apprenticeship, the Stewards issue a severe warning for this incident and advised that a repetition would lead to a suspension.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S GREETING (App R Nuqman) revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey AK Lim was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(b) for using his whip in an excessive manner on M SEVEN.

TARZAN (Y Aify) was slow into stride. Jockey Y Aify reported that the barrier handler had been holding TARZAN when the start was effected.

In the early stages, DONT MIND IFIDO (AK Lim) raced fiercely.

Near the 1000M, RAKAMA (J De Souza) and RAINBOW FISH (App CK Khaw) were racing tightly with RAINBOW FISH having to be eventually checked. On inquiry, it was established that RAKAMA was inclined to lay inwards when its hind-quarters contacted RAINBOW FISH. Jockey J De Souza pulled the mare’s head outwards but the pressure of RAINBOW FISH had continued. In assessing this incident, the Stewards believed that Jockey J De Souza had made sufficient effort not to crowd the horse on his inside.

RAKAMA was taken outwards when blocked for a run near the 250M.

Jockey S Muniandy (TOM YAM) reported that the mare raced greenly throughout.

METALLOCENE (S Muniandy) was slow to begin.

When struck with the whip, LISTEN (S Anandan) shifted in near the 275M.

App L De Souza, the rider of D’GREAT SWIFT, reported that the gelding was unable to show early pace with the shorter distance than its previous start.

Jockey Y Aify, the rider of BAADSHAH, was fined RM1000/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip at about the 200M.

Jockey R Shafiq was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ prior permission to ride 5kgs overweight on WIRA SAKTI.

WIRA SAKTI shifted in at the start, crowding RUN THE DAY (App AR Aiman) and NUMBER ONE SON (S Muniandy) at the same time as SASA LADY (AK Lim) shifting out marginally. Jockey R Shafiq was warned to afford runners on his inside sufficient room.

SASA LADY raced wide in the middle stages.

WIRA SAKTI which was racing erratically, had to be steadied off the heels of RUN THE DAY near the 350M and again eased when NUMBER ONE SON rolled out at the 200M.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that RUN THE DAY returned having cast its near hind plate.

The Stewards inquired into the reason App L De Souza (D’GREAT JOURNEY) weighed in approximately 300 grams below the weight he weighed out at. The Stewards were unable to ascertain any reason but subsequently reprimanded App L De Souza for this infraction and advised him that he must ensure that his horses carry the correct weight at all times.

TERMS OF REFERENCE (S Salee) and TILSWORTH FREDDIE (App A Suriya) was slow into stride.

In the early stages, MR HANKS (J Low) was carried outwards by TRINITY GRACE (SU Lim) and obliged to race wide.  On inquiry, it was established that TRINITY GRACE was pulled very fiercely, and Jockey SU Lim had taken preventive measures to avoid the heels of BAHAR and shifted out at that stage. The Stewards warned Jockey SU Lim to exercise greater caution.

When questioned as to the reason RACE FOR FAME was so far back, Jockey R Shafiq advised that the gelding had not begun as quickly as the horses on his inside, and he was beaten for early pace. After going approximately 100M, RACE FOR FAME was crowded for room and he found himself further back than desired. Although he had ridden RACE FOR FAME vigourously in the straight, the gelding failed to respond. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that RACE FOR FAME (R Shafiq) returned with a cut on the off hind leg.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the apparent improved performance of FIRST PRECINCT (J De Souza) as opposed to its unraced run on 9 November 2019 at SLTC.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB NOVEMBER SPECIAL MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 9 NOVEMBER 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding

(Course B)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr James Yu & Dr Edwards Samuel.

RACE 1 (R1404) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

GHOST BAY (HS Gill) was slow to begin.

On straightening, SCORPION KING and MUSANG KING bumped.

Jockey Y Aify (EMPEROR WARRIOR) was questioned as to the reasons he had ridden EMPEROR WARRIOR wide in a leading position throughout the race. He advised that it had been his intention to ride off the pace but when crossing, believed there were horses inside of him when he had heard several calls. He could offer no explanation as to why, after clearing MUSANG KING (S Anandan) near the 900M, he had not moved closer to the leader, SCORPION KING (AK Lim), and had stayed approximately 4 horses wide until straightening.

In considering Jockey Y Aify’s riding, the Stewards believed that they could not substantiate a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) but severely reprimanded Jockey Y Aify as they were of the opinion that his ride was unsatisfactory.

Jockey S Ruzaini, when questioned regarding his riding of SATELLITE GENIUS, advised that after jumping awkwardly, SATELLITE GENIUS had been reluctant to stride on the soft track. Further, the gelding was inclined to over-race in its previous races, but today SATELLITE GENIUS relaxed in a mid to rearward position. After straightening, he pushed the gelding out and it had tended to lay outwards in the straight.

When questioned, Trainer S Edwards advised the Stewards that he wished SATELLITE GENIUS to be ridden in a midfield position, and was not unhappy that the gelding was more rearward given that it was in touch with the field. The Stewards adjourned this inquiry at a date to be fixed.

SEGAR THE BEST (App R Nuqman) commenced to race fiercely and struck the running rail at about the 1050M with App R Nuqman having trouble controlling the gelding. Trainer BT Lim was advised to engage a stronger rider for SEGAR THE BEST in future.

MOON BABY was obliged to race wide in the middle stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT ACHIEVER revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

ENCOSTA ZONE (Z Khairil) was slow to begin, and was inclined to lay inwards in the straight.

SILVER POWER (App CK Khaw) was inclined to lay outwards in the straight and near the 225M, bumped the hind-quarters of RADICAL FORCE. When questioned as to why he had led on SILVER POWER by a significant margin, App CK Khaw explained that he had been instructed to go forward and attempt to lead but SILVER POWER commenced to over-race and he had subsequently let the gelding stride.

DAHEES (S Muniandy) raced wide on straightening. Jockey S Muniandy (DAHEES) was questioned as to why DAHEES was so far back in the early stages. He stated that although beginning well enough, DAHEES had been impeded shortly after the start and then when following SHANGHAI NIGHTS (AK Lim), had again been blocked. He had taken DAHEES wide in mid race as he was of the opinion that the gelding resented the state of the track.

When questioned regarding his ride on ENCOSTA ZONE, Jockey Z Khairil stated that the mare was reluctant to stride out in the early stages, and that today’s distance was considerably shorter than the mare’s optimum.

RACE 6 (R1409) CLASS 4 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

HARVEYWALLBANGER (R Shafiq) bounded in the air at the start, losing considerable ground.

On jumping, LIGHTNING KING (AK Lim) shifted in at the same time as SUN SEEKER (SU Lim) shifted out, squeezing ELITE SILENCER (App R Nuqman)  which lost ground.

Approaching the 1000M, HARVEYWALLBANGER commenced to race fiercely and shifted out at the same time as PREMIUM RUSH (App S Uzair) shifted in slightly. This caused FIRST DANCE (J De Souza) to be steadied. App S Uzair was reminded of his obligations to afford runners sufficient galloping room. PREMIUM RUSH then drifted wide in the straight.

When questioned, Jockey O Chavez (CONFEAT) advised that CONFEAT was at no stage comfortable with the state of the track, and he had attempted to get the gelding to change legs in the straight but the gelding was a spent force by the 300M.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of SUN SEEKER, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip at about the 400M.

RACE 7 (R1410) COMBINED CLASSES 1&2 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

Trainer C Leck was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he  wrongly declared the riders of NOVA STRIKE and NOVA SWISS.

AFFLECK (R Rueven) was inclined to over-race in the early stages.

HIGH COUNCIL (App A Suriya) and NOVA STRIKE (S Ruzaini) were slow into stride.

When questioned regarding his ride on AFFLECK, Jockey R Rueven advised that although the gelding was travelling well in the early stages, he had allowed AFFLECK to stride to the lead as he believed the pace was true. He had been marginally crowded on straightening when STICK SEEKER (App S Uzair) rolled in but was of the opinion that AFFLECK was not suited by the “yielding” nature of the track, and had faded in the straight.

Trainer S Ellis stated that in his opinion, AFFLECK had raced in an uncharacteristic fashion and although he considered that the gelding was not suited by the track today, he was of the opinion that AFFLECK raced considerably below its ability.

RACE 8 (R1410) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B)

SATTAR (R Shafiq) bounded in the air at the start. When questioned, Jockey R Shafiq (SATTAR) stated that the gelding was agitated in the stalls and on jumping awkwardly, it then commenced to be pulled fiercely and he had been reluctant to take a run on the inside horse near the 1000M. Trainer AB Abdullah was advised that SATTAR will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

Jockey KC Wong (PANCA DELIMA) stated that he had been instructed to ride in second or third positon but had to push PANCA DELIMA to go forward with the gelding hanging outwards near the 1000M, finishing wide on the track. He believed that PALTROW (S Anandan) may have broken down and had not ridden it out in the straight.

Jockey KC Wong reported that PANCA DELIMA was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of PANCA DELIMA revealed no significant finding. Trainer AB Abdullah was advised that PANCA DELIMA will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

The Stewards warned App WW Cheah (DESIRE SKY) for looking back prior to the finish.

LUCKY MASTER (App R Nuqman) fly-jumped, losing ground, and steadied near the 1100M.

GIGANTE DEL ANDRE (App AR Aiman) raced wide in the middle stages.

MEWTWO (C Goon) and STREET CHAMP (App A Suriya) were slow into stride.

Due to the delay, ELF’S DREAM (App WW Cheah) dwelt and jumped awkwardly, losing considerable ground.

RACE 1 (R1267)       CLASS 5 (B) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

MACHO MAN raced fiercely running to the first turn.

Near the 50M, the flap of the whip of Jockey Z Khairil (ANAK WARRIOR) came off. Shortly after, Jockey Z Khairil chose to discard his whip as he considered the defective whip was interrupting his riding rhythm.

Prior to the following race, the whips of all riders on the day were examined for Race 2.

EASTER MATE (App WW Cheah) was ridden wide in the middle stages.

Trainer L Moy was questioned as to why NEW SENSATION (App S Uzair) led as opposed to its previous starts. He advised that he had instructed that NEW SENSATION to be ridden prominently last start with Blinkers on for the first time, however from its wide barrier, NEW SENSATION had been unable to secure a forward position. He was of the opinion that NEW SENSATION had been able to lead today primarily due to his inside stall, having secured the lead easily.

MR CONNERY (J De Souza) was blocked for a clear run passing the 150M.

When questioned regarding his ride on TAUROS in the straight, Jockey R Shafiq advised that TAUROS was a “pick-up” ride and in his opinion, the gelding was resentful of racing in Blinkers. Although riding the gelding positively in the straight, TAUROS had an inclination to hang inwards and he had thus attempted to encourage the gelding by picking it up.

At the 1200M, Jockey S Ruzaini (STAR INVINCIBLE) was struck in the face by a clod of dirt, breaking his goggles. He was subsequently examined by the Club Doctor who stood him down from his riding engagements for the remainder of the races today.

Approaching the 1000M, I AM THE BOSS (App CK Khaw) blundered and shifted out severely, inconveniencing PLACE YOUR BET. I AM THE BOSS then shifted in, crowding HELLO BOSS (R Shafiq) in onto STAR INVINCIBLE. On inquiry, it was established that MAYBE (App P Deneskumar) steadied when the pace slowed and this caused I AM THE BOSS to be shifted out and initiate this incident. No rider could be held individually responsible in this matter.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey KC Wong, the rider of YES BOSSY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding YES BOSSY at the 400M, he caused JUBILATION (App N Varmah) to be restrained.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey KC Wong’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 14 October 2019 and to expire on 27 October 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:35pm).

Passing the 250M, IMMORTALITY (S Anandan) rolled in, bumping SMART MASTER (SU Lim).

Passing the 200M, BUKIT SUBANG (App S Zulfikri) crowded YES BOSSY. On inquiry, App S Zulfikri was reprimanded for failing to straighten BUKIT SUBANG at this stage.

When questioned as to why POWERFUL FIGHTER (App WW Cheah) led, Trainer R Lines advised that he could not identify a natural leader in the race and had instructed that POWERFUL FIGHTER be ridden prominently. He was satisfied that App WW Cheah had taken initiative when the pace was slow by leading, without using any energy.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Yielding

(Course A – True Position)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr James Yu.

RACE 1 (R1235) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GLORIA MARIS (S Ruzaini) bounded in the air at the start, losing ground. When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that the mare had been fractious in proceeding to the start attempting to buck, and after fly-jumping, he believed that GLORIA MARIS had again attempted to buck. In the straight, although making some ground, he felt that the mare was resentful of racing, throwing its head and racing erratically. In light of this, Trainer SY Lim was advised that GLORIA MARIS will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the starting stall tests) before being declared to race again.

At the 625M, ANDRE (App WW Cheah) eased off the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Muniandy).

MACHUNG STAR (KC Wong) laid inwards over the final 200M.

D’GREAT SONG (KC Wong) hung inwards on jumping, bumping FIGHTING WARRIOR (J Low).

BIG SUPER (S Anandan) and L’KEN (App R Nuqman) bumped at the start.

In the early stages, MAJOR GREEN (S Muniandy) raced wide. Jockey S Muniandy was questioned as to why he sat three (3) deep on the pace. He stated that he had been instructed to lead but had been unable to do so, and was reluctant to restrain MAJOR GREEN to attempt to take cover. In assessing his riding, the Stewards advised Jockey S Muniandy that in their opinion, he had erred in persisting in his attempt to lead.

IPOH DASH (C Goon) lost ground when steadying on the inside of BORN A FIGHTER (HS Gill) passing the 600M. When questioned, Jockey C Goon advised that IPOH DASH had a history of racing reluctantly but after jumping well, he had settled the gelding but it had been uncomfortable racing on the inside rail at the first turn, and it checked on its own accord near the 600M. He had thus recommended that the gelding be raced in head-gear in future.

L’KEN was blocked when attempting a run on the inside of BIG SUPER near the 300M.

FIGHTING WARRIOR laid outwards over the final stages.

Jockey KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT SONG, reported that the saddle on his horse slipped backwards at the 1000M.

Near the 800M, RUSSELL THE CROWE (App CK Khaw) which was racing fiercely when crossed by FUNKADELIC (AK Lim) shifted out, thereby carrying SUPREME STAR (Y Aify) wide. App CK Khaw was advised that in similar circumstances in future, he should make greater attempt to restrain his mount.

NOVA FALCON raced fiercely in the early stages.

Near the 1600M, VAIN TYCOON (App CK Khaw) which was pulling hard, shifted out quickly causing OUT OF NOWHERE to be restrained. App CK Khaw, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, R Lines, was advised that a repetition of this form of riding would lead to suspension.

Passing the 900M, PREMIUM STARS (B Pinheiro) which was racing fiercely, shifted out causing NOVA FALCON to be restrained.

An inquiry was opened into Jockey Y Aify’s riding of OUT OF NOWHERE in the straight, and was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

RACE 6 (R1240) METRO A – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TROPHY

SHOWBOY (R Woodworth) veered inwards markedly at the start, crowding TIME ODYSSEY (App S Rosmizan) onto GOD HELPS ME (AK Lim) with AFFLECK (B Pinheiro) being bumped. Trainer AB Abdullah was advised to rectify the gelding’s manners.

SHOWBOY raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 400M, EL TORDILLO (S Anandan) which was making ground quickly, had to be steadied when D’GREAT CONQUEROR (J De Souza) rolled out.  AFFLECK rolled out at the 250M and brushed TANNHAUSER. TANNHAUSER (App CK Khaw) and SHOWBOY then bumped on several occasions over the final 200M.

When questioned, Jockey S Anandan reported that EL TORDILLO was unable to match the early pace given the rising class and when starting to make ground in the straight, had been impeded for a clear run.

AWATERE (App CK Khaw) steadied when HELLO BOSS (B Pinheiro) rolled in at the 650M.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of HIGH COUNCIL (App A Suriya), Trainer C Leck advised that his confidence level of the gelding had reasoned when it was considered that the track was in a “yielding” state, and although he had instructed App A Suriya to ride HIGH COUNCIL in a mid, settled position, he was happy with the boy’s initiative in allowing HIGH COUNCIL to settle from its wide barrier.

At the 1600M, SING EXPRESS (HS Gill) rolled in with FIRST SUCCESS (R Shafiq) blundering from its heels. Whilst accepting this, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey HS Gill for failing to afford sufficient galloping room.

On straightening, FIRST SUCCESS steadied when TARZAN (Y Aify) rolled in and was then inclined to race erratically in the straight.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of SHANGHAI NIGHTS, reported that at the 1400M, his horse jumped a patch.

The Stewards opened an inquiry into the tactics and the riding of all runners in this race with the exception of the winner, SING EXPRESS (HS Gill), and adjourned it at a date to be fixed.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 8 SEPTEMBER 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

(Course A: +4M)

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr James Yu.

RACE 1 (R1133) CLASS 5(B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

SATELLITE GENIUS (S Ruzaini) jumped awkwardly, striking the hind quarters of IMMORTAL LEGACY (App M Lukman), losing ground.

SMIDDY BYRNE (KC Wong) which was sitting back when the start was effected, lost ground. SMIDDY BYRNE was then obliged to race wide throughout.

Passing the 1250M, SATELLITE GENIUS shifted in, causing SUPER EIGHT (O Chavez) to be steadied.

Near the 350M, SUPER EIGHT stumbled for no apparent reason. Jockey O Chavez explained that SUPER EIGHT was reluctant throughout the race, and was inclined to shy from the kick back.

When questioned, Trainer WC Lim (IMMORTAL LEGACY) advised that after studying the race, he believed IMMORTAL LEGACY could race in a prominent position although having drawn the outside barrier. He had instructed App M Lukman to ride for pace but was surprised that he had led so easily. Whilst accepting that App M Lukman had ridden IMMORTAL LEGACY diligently to secure the lead, the Stewards suggested to Trainer WC Lim that he educate App M Lukman with regards to the pace and tempo he applies in races.

SHENBAO (R Shafiq) which was reluctant to be loaded into the barrier, will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of BIG BUS, reported that he lost his near side stirrup iron at the start but regained it shortly thereafter.

Due to the delay, NOVA DASHING (KC Wong) and BLUE EYED BOY (K Eirwan) missed the start by a considerable margin.

SMOOTHLY (S Ruzaini) raced wide throughout.

GREENSTONE (J Low) veered outwards from the 750M, crashing through the outside running rail at the 575M, dislodging its rider. GREENSTONE was determined to have expired. Near the 1000M, COMMODORE LINCOLN struck the heels of EXCALIBUR (R Shafiq) and blundered, dislodging Jockey B Pinheiro. GOLD POWER (J Low) and NORMAN which were following, were inconvenienced. Jockey B Pinheiro was subsequently taken to hospital for further observation. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

COMMODORE LINCOLN (B Pinheiro) and ELF’S DREAM (J De Souza) both raced wide in the middle stages.

When leading, SEGAR THE BEST (App R Nuqman) threw its head and raced fiercely.

The Stewards inquired into Jockey R Shafiq’s riding of EXCALIBUR, in particular his whip use in the straight. Trainer S Ellis advised that when EXCALIBUR ran second in mid-July, Jockey R Shafiq had advised him that the gelding was inclined to resent being struck with the whip, as such he had instructed at subsequent starts (including this one), that the riders use the whip sparingly on EXCALIBUR.

In accepting this, the Stewards advised Trainer S Ellis and Jockey R Shafiq that there was an expectancy that a horse to be ridden in a consistent manner and made a notation that EXCALIBUR would be ridden in future with a moderate whip use.

STAR INVINCIBLE (Y Aify) raced wide in the middle stages.

D’GREAT TIMING (J Low) threw its head shortly after the start. When questioned, Jockey J Low said that it had been his intention, after being instructed to ride the gelding in a rearward position, from a very wide barrier, he had steadied D’GREAT TIMING in an endeavour to come across behind the field, however, the gelding had overreacted and threw its head.

Near the 275M, MOZART ECLIPSE (O Chavez) shifted out off the heels of CALVADOS (KC Wong) and in doing so, made contact with MAYBE (J De Souza). MOZART ECLIPSE was then inclined to lay out from the 175M to the 50M. Jockey O Chavez was reprimanded for shifting out at this stage. Jockey KC Wong was warned that he must keep his mount straight in future.

When questioned, Jockey KC Wong, the rider of CALVADOS, stated that the gelding had pulled hard throughout and he had been left sitting on the outside of the leader, THAI BAHT (S Anandan) and although he had wished to be half-a-length behind THAI BAHT from the 750M, he had been exposed when racing in front of that gelding. Jockey KC Wong was advised that he must make a more positive effort to ride diligently in future.

LONE PACER (App N Varmah) which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

SACRED SURFER (App M Akmazani) brushed the running rail near the 1050M.

D’GREAT VULTURE (App L De Souza) raced wide from the 1000M until straightening.

Passing the 300M, HIGH COUNCIL shifted in abruptly, inconveniencing ARROGATE ACHIEVER. App A Suriya (HIGH COUNCIL) was warned that he must straighten his mount when they shift.

OUT OF NOWHERE (Y Aify) veered inwards over the final 50M.

Near the 125M, SACRED SURFER had to be checked on the inside of DAZZLING SPEED (J Low), and when taken outwards, inconvenienced BAHAR.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider of DAZZLING SPEED, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that when he rode DAZZLING SPEED, he permitted his mount to shift inwards in the final 125M causing SACRED SURFER to be restrained.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 16 September 2019 and to expire on 22 September 2019, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:35pm).

Approaching the finish, SECKILL (App R Nuqman) had to steady inwards to avoid the heels of FANTASTIC ECLIPSE (J Low).

When questioned, Jockey R Shafiq stated that CALL IT had shorten stride at the first turn and then in the straight, dropped his head. He subsequent eased the gelding down.  Trainer S Dunderdale advised that he could offer no explanation other than he considered the gelding might require further distance as it had been training well but highlighted that CALL IT was having its first start in KL. CALL IT which was beaten 20 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

RACE 1 (R1106) CLASS 5 (B)– 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

Approaching the 700M, SUPER GOOD (J Low) checked. On inquiry, it was established that BEIJING STAR (Y Aify) on the outside was holding SUPER GOOD tight at the same time as ALAN (KC Wong) rolled out. In assessing this incident, the Stewards warned both Jockeys Y Aify and KC Wong to exercise the utmost care.

At the 300M, SIX EMPIRE (HS Gill) laid out under pressure.

BALBOA (App CK Khaw) was slow to begin.

In the middle stages, DEE MAJULAH (J De Souza) was forced to race wide.

MR WOLFF (Y Aify) was inclined to hang inwards from the 250M, crowding KING COBRA (AK Lim) near the 75M.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of DEE MAJULAH, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of DEE MAJULAH revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 4 (R1109) CLASS 5 (A)– 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

GHOST BAY (K Eirwan) had to be resaddled at the start when it was ascertained that its girth was too long. Trainer BT Lim was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 35(1) for negligent in saddling GHOST BAY.

AUDACIOUS (B Pinheiro) veered inwards at the start, crowding SATELLITE GOLDEN (S Ruzaini) which in turn contacted D’GREAT ERA (J De Souza) tightening TAKE A BOW (Y Aify) and MAJOR GREEN (S Anandan).

App L De Souza, the rider of I AM MIDAS, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. of A post-race veterinary examination of I AM MIDAS revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockeys J De Souza and KC Wong, the riders of D’GREAT ERA and BORN A FIGHTER respectively, were questioned as to why they had sat approximately five (5) lengths behind the leading division mid-race.

Jockey J De Souza advised that at no stage was D’GREAT ERA striding well and that although wishing to be running midfield, had found himself further back with the mare fading badly. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT ERA revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey KC Wong, when questioned, advised that he had wished to be running midfield but had to push BORN A FIGHTER from shortly after the start with the gelding being unable to match what he considered was a fast early pace.

Whilst accepting these explanations, the Stewards reminded Jockeys J De Souza and KC Wong that they were expected to ensure their mounts were ridden in a positive manner at all stages.

Jockey K Eirwan (GHOST BAY) was questioned as to why he had taken so long to put GHOST BAY under pressure in the straight. He advised that he had limited race riding exposure recently, and believed he had exerted effort on GHOST BAY on straightening.

RACE 5 (R1110) CLASS 4 (A)– 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)

TWENTYSIXTWELVE (App CK Khaw) jumped with its head in the air, losing ground.

RACE 6 (R1111) COMBINED CLASS 1 & 2 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

WHIRLWIND was slow to begin. When questioned regarding this, Jockey B Pinheiro stated that in its previous start, WHIRLWIND had commenced slowly and he had pushed the gelding vigorously. WHIRLWIND had then commenced to pull very hard and he had difficulty controlling the gelding. As such, he had decided to allow WHIRLWIND to jump at its own accord without pushing it in order to have the gelding settle into stride.

Between the 1000M and the 900M, TANNHAUSER (App CK Khaw) and SHOWBOY (S Ruzaini) bumped on several occasions.

When blocked near the 200M, BUENOS AIRES (KC Wong) shifted out, bumping the hind-quarters of TANNHAUSER. Shortly after this incident, SHOWBOY shifted in causing TANNHAUSER to be restrained. On inquiry, it was established that although SHOWBOY had shifted in at this stage, this incident was compounded by the bump to TANNHAUSER by BUENOS AIRES. However, the Stewards reprimanded Jockey S Ruzaini relating to his interference in this incident.

Jockey B Pinheiro (WHIRLWIND) dropped his whip at the 250M. He was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 4 (R1071) CLASS 4 (A) – 1800M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 1 September 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of Jockey S Salee (THAI BAHT). Further evidence was taken from Jockey S Salee and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of THAI BAHT respectively.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of THAI BAHT, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards whilst riding THAI BAHT in the straight in the above race. The particulars of the charge were that his riding of THAI BAHT in the straight with the whip failed to satisfy the Stewards for the particular reason that several whip actions failed to make contact.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Salee’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Jockey S Salee was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from 2 September 2019 and to expire on 1 October 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (12pm).

RACE 8 (R1075) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 27 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the whip use of Jockey S Anandan, the rider of E SUPREME.

After considering the evidence tendered, Jockey S Anandan was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(ii) for continuing to use his whip when E SUPREME was considerably out of contention.

RACE 1 (R1068) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 24 AUGUST 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 27 August 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, continued the inquiry into the apparent improved performance of MUSANG KING (AK Lim) in the above race. Evidence was taken from Trainer SY Lim, the trainer of MUSANG KING.

Trainer SY Lim advised that he had instructed that MUSANG KING be ridden in both races to be handy. At its previous start, the gelding had been tightened slightly at the start and was unable to take up a prominent position. He was of the opinion that this race was considerably weaker and that there appeared to be little pace in the race. Further that MUSANG KING was advantaged by having Jockey AK Lim ride as opposed to App WK Lee. He had also freshened the gelding in his work. Their explanations were noted.

RACE 6 (R836) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 6 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

Jockey SU Lim (SUPER MARIO) who lodged an appeal against his suspension of one (1) month under MRA Rule 44(10), applied to withdraw his appeal. After consideration, his application was acceded to and his deposit was forfeited. His suspension commenced on 26 August 2019 and to expire on 25 September 2019, both dates inclusive.

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon), Dr James Yu & Dr Edwards Samuel.

RACE 1 (R1068) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

RED SAPPHIRE (App L De Souza) and GLORY KID (App A Suriya) were both slow into stride.

NASI LEMAK (S Salee) was slow to begin.

TALISMAN (Y Aify) was obliged to race wide from the 1000M.

In the early stages, EMPEROR WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) raced fiercely.

Near the 500M, POLO GAGA (B Pinheiro) commenced to lay out, bumping MUSANG KING (AK Lim) near the 350M. POLO GAGA continued to shift outwards brushing MUSANG KING. Jockey B Pinheiro was warned that he must straighten his mount when they shift inwards in future.

RED SAPPPHIRE was impeded when attempting a marginal run on the inside of READY TO STRIKE (KC Wong) at the 250M and then bumped with READY TO STRIKE at the 50M.

A post-race veterinary examination of ELITE GUSTAVO (App CK Khaw) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned, Jockey S Salee stated that NASI LEMAK was sitting back on the stalls and he appealed to the Starter. NASI LEMAK had then laid outwards for several strides after jumping. NASI LEMAK will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having performed poorly.

An inquiry into the improved performance of MUSANG KING (AK Lim) will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 2 (R1069) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

Acting on veterinary advice that YES BOSSY (Y Aify) had sustained multiple injuries to its both hind legs, the gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

After jumping awkwardly, UNION JAC (HS Gill) raced wide in the early stages.

ELF’S DREAM (J De Souza) jumped with its head in the air and was then tightened, and after being blocked in the straight, was carried wide when CHAMPION FACE (App CK Khaw) shifted out. App CK Khaw was warned that he must straighten more quickly in future.

At the 800M, CHAMPION FACE rolled in causing D’GREAT WALL (AK Lim) to be steadied.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of ELF’S DREAM, stated that he had been forced to race further back than he wished after jumping awkwardly and crowded at the start. He also explained that although in a rearward position on straightening, he was impeded when carried wide in the straight.

In the early stages, SMART MASTER (SU Lim) was obliged to race wide.

SCORPION KING (AK Lim) raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 500M, BORN A FIGHTER steadied when GREENSTONE (J Low) which had clipped the heels of SEGAR THE BEST, rolled in

BORN A FIGHTER was blocked for a clear run from the 450M to the 300M, and again over the final 75M.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of ARLO, Jockey S Ruzaini advised that the gelding had raced uncompetitively from the beginning, and was off the bit early in the race. He also stated that over the final 250M, ARLO had commenced to shorten stride.

When questioned, Trainer C Leck stated that ARLO had considerable history of leg problems having had many starts, and he believed that at its previous winning start, the gelding had been advantaged by the “yielding” state of track, and that it had not performed well on “good” surface. The Stewards informed him to report back to the Stewards if there is anything amiss with the gelding during the week. A post-race veterinary examination of ARLO revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of SONG KID (App CK Khaw) revealed no significant finding.

He advised that today, he instructed that I AM THE  BOSS be ridden in handy position, however, App CK Khaw advised that had been left in front when nothing else wished to lead.
