STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 23 FEBRUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R238) CLASS 5 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

ACME (S Ruzaini) was slow to find its stride.

RED RACKHAM (S Salee) jumped outwards, causing EAGLE SOAR (J De Souza) to be carried outwards and to be tightened on the inside of MUSANG KING (SU Lim).

NASI LEMAK (J Mallyon) was crowded on jumping between SWINGLOWSWEETJACKY (Y Aify) and MUSANG KING.

EAGLE SOAR laid outwards in the middle stages and continued to race wide in the straight. When questioned, Jockey J De Souza stated that after suffering interference at the jump, EAGLE SOAR commenced to over-race and took charge of him around the bend. He added that the gelding laid persistently outwards and was not responsive to any attempts to correct. EAGLE SOAR threw its head up at about the 500M and then continued to lay outwards on straightening. Trainer R Lines was advised that the Stewards placed a warning on EAGLE SOAR to improve its racing manners, failing which action may be taken against the gelding.

Between the 500M and the 400M, ACME was disappointed for a run on the heels of PHANTASOS (C Goon).

At about the 300M, COLD WAR (R Rueven) laid outwards under pressure causing SONG KID (App L De Souza) to be eased off his heels approaching the 200M. Thereafter SONG KID laid inwards and had to be eased and corrected at about the 100M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri into the improved performance of the winner, RED RACKHAM. Trainer M Sukri stated that the gelding had thrived and improved in condition since its last start, 8 weeks previously. He added that today’s race was the weakest that RED RACKHAM had contested.

RACE 2 (R239) CLASS 5 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

GLORY KID (App A Suriya) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 300M, WHAT (App S Uzair) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of SUPER GOOD (J De Souza). At this point, PERCIUS (R Rueven) which was attempting the same run, was disappointed and was thereafter shifted to the outside of WHAT.

ELITE KINGDOM (App A Zaimuddin) had to be angled through a narrow gap between LINING TOGETHER (KC Wong) and the rail at about the 150M.

The Stewards questioned Trainer M Sukri, the representative of Trainer PS Kumaran, the trainer of POLO GAGA (S Ruzaini) into the disappointing performance of the mare. Trainer M Sukri stated that prior to the race, the connections were concerned that the 1100M distance of today’s race may be insufficient. He added that POLO GAGA had over-raced in the early stages.

RACE 3 (R240) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

ZENZERO (C Goon) was slow to begin.

SAND BANK (R Rueven) jumped inwards. The Stewards observed that at the time of the gates opening, SAND BANK’s head was turned inwards, which Jockey R Rueven made no attempt to correct. The Stewards warned Jockey R Rueven that he must take all reasonable measures to ensure that his mounts jump straight in future.

LOVE GOES AROUND (S Ruzaini) was slow to find its stride and had to be urged to remain in touch in the early stages.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (J De Souza) lost its position, having been slightly crowded by ELF’S DREAM (App WW Cheah) at the jump.

Approaching the 200M, ZOLVED (App L De Souza) was briefly disappointed for a run on the heels of BELIEVE IT OR NOT (KC Wong) which laid outwards.

App L De Souza, the rider of ZOLVED, reported after the race that his saddle slipped backwards during running.

When questioned, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of THAI BAHT, stated that the gelding who had won over a longer distance of 1400M on its last start, was unable to keep up with the early pace today and then laid inwards under pressure in the straight. He therefore did not use his whip until THAI BAHT had clear running directly in front of him at about the 200M, for fear that the gelding would shift further inwards and cause interference.

The Stewards drew the attention of Trainer S Dunderdale to a report from Dr Shri Kanth, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon of SLTC, that SAND BANK’s off hind shoe appeared to be very thin and worn. SAND BANK cast its off hind shoe during the race. Trainer S Dunderdale explained that SAND BANK is a highly strung horse, and was fractious in the pre-race holding yard and repeatedly kicked out at the concrete wall of the holding stall. He added that this may have contributed to the off hind plate being loosened, although he personally checked it before the running of the race.

RACE 4 (R241) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE A)

SCRAT (J Mallyon) and NATION THEATRE (App A Suriya) were both slow to begin.

ONCE A THIEF (App J Daniel) jumped awkwardly outwards and brushed the side of the gate and was slow to find its stride as a consequence.

ABEBE (AM Aizat) was outpaced in the early stages. Jockey AM Aizat, when questioned, stated that ABEBE needs more distance and the gelding has a tendency to become unbalanced under pressure, therefore he felt it prudent to simply keep him up to his work and attempt to keep in touch in the early and middle stages. He explained that on straightening, ABEBE changed his lead leg and ran on strongly despite receiving some interference from ONCE A THIEF at about the 100M.

At about the 500M, SCRAT was denied a run on the heels of SATELLITE GOLDEN (Y Aify) which rolled inwards away from the heels of FLYING SHADOW (SU Lim).

At the 100M, GOOD PEOPLE (J De Souza) laid outwards under pressure causing ONCE A THIEF to be taken outwards onto ABEBE which was inconvenienced.

NATION THEATRE was persistently denied a run in the last 100M and App A Suriya was unable to ride out with his full vigour.

ALIEN (KC Wong) laid outwards under pressure in the last 50M causing the rider to use hands and heels only in an attempt to keep straight. A post-race veterinary examination of ALIEN revealed that it returned broken-winded and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey J Mallyon, the rider of SCRAT, reported that the mare was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of SCRAT revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 5 (R242) CLASS 3 – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SATELLITE BOY (Z Khairil) laid outwards on jumping and brushed with SACRED SURFER (J De Souza).

HAPPY DAYZ (SU Lim) was slow to begin, was soon well behind and outpaced, and was never able to be competitive. Jockey SU Lim reported after the race that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of HAPPY DAYZ revealed no significant finding. The gelding which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

WAR DRAGON (Y Aify) jumped inwards and crowded PRINCE RAVEN (S Ruzaini).

SHELLOMADA (HS Gill) was badly crowded at the jump between CONDADO (App CK Khaw) and FIRST COMMAND (R Rueven). Jockey HS Gill, the rider of SHELLOMADA, reported that apart from the interference, the gelding might have been placed as its finished the race strongly. App CK Khaw, the rider of CONDADO, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, was shown the vision of the incident, and warned that he must take all possible measures to keep his horses straight at the jump and to avoid using his whip which may cause a horse to jump awkwardly.

From the 400M, FIRST COMMAND laid inwards under pressure causing D’GREAT LIGHT (KC Wong), which was following, to be taken inwards and awkwardly placed on the heels of RACER KING (HK Cheng) at about the 300M.

From approaching the 200M, D’GREAT LIGHT was shifted outwards to obtain clear running but was disappointed for a run on the heels of LISTEN (AM Aizat) at the 50M.

From the 100M, CONDADO laid outwards under pressure.

LIM’S CASINO (C Goon) which was beaten 13 ¼ lengths will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of SACRED SURFER (J De Souza), Trainer F Maynard stated that the gelding was racing in a higher class today and had not been suited by becoming involved in a battle for the lead in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SACRED SURFER revealed no significant finding.

BRILLIANT DEAL (A Aucharuz) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1200M, ELITE CONQUEROR (App A Zaimuddin) commenced to over-race in response to the pace slowing, causing App A Zaimuddin to restrain the gelding and Jockey SU Lim, the rider of BACK TO THE TOWERS, which was following, to restrain to avoid the heels of ELITE CONQUEROR.

Having suffered interference before the 200M, ELITE CONQUEROR was shifted outwards to obtain clear running from the 200M.

KING OPERA which was beaten 16 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned regarding the improved run of FIRST PRECINCT (R Shafiq), Trainer S Dunderdale stated that the gelding had benefitted from the fitting of a pacifier today which enabled the horse to relax better in the middle stages and therefore have more energy left for the finish. He added that FIRST PRECINCT had trialled well since his last start 5 weeks previously.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of BRILLIANT DEAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 400M, he allowed his horse to shift outwards when not clear of MAIDANZ BEAUTY, which was badly crowded to the inside of BLOOD ROYAL, which was also taken slightly outwards.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey A Aucharuz’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 February 2019 and to expire on 3 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App L De Souza, the rider of BLOOD ROYAL, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his horse to shift inwards between the 400M and the 300M without sufficient correction causing interference to BRILLIANT DEAL and causing ELITE CONQUEROR to be awkwardly placed on the heels of BRILLIANT DEAL.

RACE 8 (R218) CLASS 3 – 1700M (LONG COURSE A)

MAJOR TOM (App A Suriya) stood still as the gates opened, was slow to begin and forfeited ground.

At about the 1400M, SACRED GALAXY (KC Wong) shifted inwards causing SATELLITE PRINCE (Z Khairil) to be eased to avoid running onto his heels.

Jockey J Low, the rider of RUM N RAISINS, dropped his whip at about the 500M, RUM N RAISINS finished tailed out and was beaten 18 ¾ lengths. The Stewards observed that the dropped whip made no difference to the running of RUM N RAISINS and warned Jockey J Low that a recurrence may lead to action being taken against him.  RUM N RAISINS will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At about the 200M, OUT OF NOWHERE (App J Daniel) commenced to shift outwards under pressure and at about the 100M, laid outwards towards TIGER BAY (J De Souza) which was taken outwards. At about the 75M, TIGER BAY laid inwards away from a right-handed drive and bumped once with OUT OF NOWHERE.

An objection was lodged by App J Daniel, the rider of OUT OF NOWHERE, placed second against TIGER BAY (J De Souza) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 75M which had affected App J Daniel’s momentum. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

RACE 9 (R219) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

DANZEB (R Shafiq) brushed with RAINBOW FISH (App L De Souza) on jumping.

In the early stages, BROTHER WIND (J De Souza) showed a tendency to over-race and laid inwards and approaching the 1000M, bumped with JERAM VILLAGE (S Ruzaini) which was also racing greenly.

MAINDANZ BEAUTY (App A Suriya) shifted persistently outwards under pressure from the 100M, forcing the rider to ease and correct in order to avoid contact with BROTHER WIND. When questioned, App A Suriya stated that in the last 100M, MAIDANZ BEAUTY commenced to lay outwards when tiring. He felt that at this stage, his mount was only capable of one-pace and he rode with hands and heels only in an attempt to keep his balance and to straighten the mare who was in danger of causing interference.

Trainer C Leck was questioned regarding the improved form shown by MAINDANZ BEAUTY. He explained that the mare is dry-coated and as such will only maintain her best condition inside an air-conditioned stall. He stated that he has recently taken steps to improve the air-conditioning in his stables which seemed to benefit MAINDANZ BEAUTY.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 16 FEBRUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R201) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

ACME (S Ruzaini) jumped outwards and brushed with GOOD VIBRATIONS (J De Souza), which was carried inwards by SUPER JOY (App A Suriya). ACME was then  buffeted by GOOD VIBRATIONS for several strides. Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of ACME, was questioned regarding the gelding’s disappointing performance. He stated that he was instructed to take a midfield position but due to the interference at the start, ACME got behind whereupon the gelding commenced to race ungenerously and was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of ACME revealed no significant finding.

MUSANG KING (S Mutaza) was shifted inwards to obtain clear running at the 400M and was thereafter disappointed for a run on the heels of ZOLVED (KC Wong) and ELITE GUSTAVO (AM Aizat) at about the 200M.

MUSANG KING was dislodged after the line. Jockey S Mutaza who was subsequently sent to hospital for further observation, was stood down by the Club Doctor for the remainder of the races today and was exempted from weighing in under the provisions of MRA Rule 121(5).

ASHQAR (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

RAMIFICATIONS (App A Zaimuddin) jumped inwards and brushed with MIROTIC (Y Aify) which in turn brushed with SNOW DANCER (J Low). Thereafter SNOW DANCER lost its position and raced ungenerously in the early stages.

GOOD PEOPLE (J De Souza) showed a limited response to strong pressure in the middle stages and from the 200M, laid outwards slightly causing ASHQAR to be inconvenienced. A post-race veterinary examination of GOOD PEOPLE revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of SNOW DANCER revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of DOMINATE (Z Khairil) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of TRUMPS UP, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1/2kg over his declared weight.

PANCA DELIMA (R Shafiq) shifted backwards and placed its head one side of the barrier, and was obstinate and intractable when the Barrier Handler attempted to correct. Trainer SB Tan was informed by the Stewards that a warning was placed on PANCA DELIMA due to its barrier manners and a recurrence may result in a test being imposed on the gelding.

NOVA WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) reared slightly as the gates opened and jumped awkwardly inwards, and brushed the left side of the gates. Thereafter NOVA WARRIOR over-raced and was racing fiercely without cover at about the 900M.

SUN FORCE (SU Lim) was slow to begin and was soon well-outpaced. A post-race veterinary examination of SUN FORCE revealed that it was lame off hind and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

PROUD PINOY (J Low) dipped in the first few strides. When questioned, Jockey J Low stated that this incident did not affect his intended racing tactics as his plan was to drop PROUD PINOY in behind other runners and obtain cover. However he was unable to do so due to NOVA WARRIOR over-racing on his inside and was therefore forced to race wide in the middle stages and forfeit ground. A post-race veterinary examination of PROUD PINOY revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

IMMORTALITY (J Mallyon) had to check to avoid the heels of PROUD PINOY at about the 1000M, and was thereafter shifted inside.

At about the 900M, KUTTNER (KC Wong) was over-racing on the heels of SUN FORCE.

Approaching the 800M, SANGKURIANG (J De Souza) was held up for clear running on the heels of D’GREAT SONG (HK Cheng).

Between the 600M and the 450M, ROMAN WELLS was disappointed for a run on the heels of D’GREAT SONG.

Approaching 200M, KUTTNER laid inwards in response to a right-handed drive and thereafter had to shift outwards to obtain clear running on the outside of LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil). Approaching the 100M, LUCKY SIXTYSIX drifted outwards under pressure causing KUTTNER and TRUMPS UP to be taken outwards.

Approaching the 200M, ROMAN WELLS (App A Suriya) commenced to shift outwards under pressure and approaching the 100M, caused IMMORTALITY to be taken outwards and crowded on the inside of PROUD PINOY. App A Suriya was shown the vision of this incident and warned by the Stewards to take greater care to keep straight under similar circumstances in future.

LIGHTNING HERO (C Goon) was slow to begin.

ORIENTAL SPIRIT (J Mallyon) over-raced in the early stages.

Approaching the 1000M, BUKIT SUBANG (App L De Souza) was forced to slightly ease off the heels of WINGED FOOT (KC Wong).

VALERIUS (SU Lim) which raced keenly, got its head up in response to being crossed by AUSSIE EAGLE (AM Aizat), forcing the rider to check. Jockey AM Aizat was questioned about this incident and stated that AUSSIE EAGLE was racing keenly in response to ORIENTAL SPIRIT and VALERIUS over-racing in close proximity to him. The gelding then shifted abruptly inwards with no warning, causing VALERIUS to check. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

At about the 300M, GORDON G (HK Cheng) shifted briefly inwards under pressure and brushed with VALERIUS.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of WINGED FOOT (KC Wong), Trainer R Lines stated that the gelding, which normally gets behind due to lack of early speed, had benefitted from the tepid early pace on this occasion which allowed him to be handily placed.

RACE 5 (R205) OPEN MAIDEN – 1600M (LONG COURSE A)

ANTHEIA (S Ruzaini) slipped on jumping and veered sharply inwards, causing MR WASHINGTON (AM Aizat) to be taken inwards onto DONT MIND IFIDO (J Low) which became crowded between MR WASHINGTON and PREMIUM RUSH (App J Daniel).

Approaching the 1000M, SATELLITE MASTER (Z Khairil) commenced to over-race in response to being crossed by DONT MIND IFIDO which then slowed in response to PREMIUM RUSH slowing in front.

Approaching the 600M, DONT MIND IFIDO commenced to hang fiercely outwards, barely negotiated the bend, forfeited significant ground and thereafter raced very wide. DONT MIND IFIDO which was beaten 27 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance and difficult racing manners. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that DONT MIND IFIDO returned with a cut on the off hind.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SATELLITE MASTER, Trainer S Edwards stated that in his opinion, the gelding had over-raced to some degree in its previous start over a shorter distance. He therefore instructed Jockey Z Khairil to obtain cover in order to help SATELLITE MASTER settle.

Jockey Z Khairil reported that having obtained cover behind DONT MIND IFIDO, the early pace of the race slowed and the field compacted in the early stages. He therefore found himself trapped on heels with no opportunity to make progress until about the 500M, whereupon SATELLITE MASTER commenced to lay outwards under pressure, and then responded just fairly.

Trainer S Edwards added that the slow pace of the race was against SATELLITE MASTER today, and the fact that the gelding just raced 6 days previously may also have affected its performance. The Stewards noted these explanations.

Trainer S Dunderdale was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on ARC CARA (SU Lim).

PARISBAS (Y Aify) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, GOLD POWER (KC Wong) laid outwards briefly causing ARC CARA to be shifted wide.

WILLIAM KING (C Goon) raced wide from the 800M. Jockey C Goon was shown the vision of this section of the race and advised by the Stewards that in future he must take positive measures to obtain an advantageous position and not lose ground by racing wide. In this incident, the Stewards informed him that he could have taken a position directly in front of PARISBAS and therefore avoided being forced wide.

Approaching the 400M, MACHUNG STAR (J Low) laid inwards under pressure causing MOON BABY (HS Gill) to be taken inwards, and GOLD POWER (KC Wong) laid outwards under pressure causing MARY KING (App A Zaimuddin) to be taken outwards onto ARC CARA.

Approaching the 300M, GOLD POWER laid inwards causing BELLA VELOCE (J Mallyon) to be briefly crowded, BELLA VELOCE then obtained clear running, as GOLD POWER subsequently rolled outwards.

Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of MR WOLFF, which was unplaced, weighed in at 1.1kgs lighter than his allotted weight. Shortly afterwards, it was discovered by a Stipendiary Steward that the lead bag had not been in his possession when he weighed in. It was found nearby on the floor, where it had been inadvertently removed with the number cloth. The weight of the lead bag was sufficient to make up the difference within the accepted level of tolerance as specified in MRA Rule 121(2) and as such MR WOLFF was deemed to have carried correct weight.

RACE 7 (R207) METRO A – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

HIGH COUNCIL (J Low) was soon outpaced and never competitive. Jockey J Low reported that the gelding was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of HIGH COUNCIL revealed no significant finding. The gelding, which was distanced, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Approaching the 1000M, LUCKY JUSTICE (AM Aizat) shied away from SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (KC Wong) causing AWATERE (S Salee) to be crowded on the inside.

Approaching the 600M, SKYDANCE ECLIPSE (KC Wong) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SUPER MARIO (SU Lim).

At about the 100M, DUKE OF NORMANDY (App S Rosmizan) was forced to shift outwards for clear running in response to being crossed by PANDA BOMB (App A Suriya) which laid inwards under pressure. The Stewards reviewed the vision of the incident and concluded that PANDA BOMB was clear at the time of the crossing, and no interference had occurred.

A post-race veterinary examination of AWATERE revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

When questioned as to the improved performance shown by PANDA BOMB today, Trainer C Leck stated that the gelding performs best when he obtains a prominent position. In its last start, in a stronger race, PANDA BOMB jumped awkwardly and suffered interference in the early stages which placed him at a disadvantage.

Trainer SB Tan was warned for failing to ensure that the deworming status of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini) was updated.

PLAYBOY SOON (App S Uzair) brushed with FLYING WINNER (R Shafiq) on jumping.

APOLLO (App A Suriya) was slow to begin. App A Suriya reported that his saddle slipped backwards on jumping.

At about the 1000M, GREENSTONE (Z Khairil) commenced to over-race and when restrained to avoid the heels of HERO CHAMPION (J Low), laid outwards and bumped APOLLO outwards.

At about the 300M, HERO CHAMPION (J Low) commenced to shift inwards under pressure, causing FLYING WINNER, SEGAR THE BEST (App A Zaimuddin) and PLAYBOY SOON on his inside to be crowded at about the 200M. Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of GREENSTONE, which was racing in the gap between SEGAR THE BEST and PLAYBOY SOON at the 300M, reported to the Stewards that he had anticipated the gap narrowing as horses from the outside were taken inwards, and therefore as a precautionary measure, had changed direction and shifted outwards approaching the 250M.

At about the 200M, APOLLO was disappointed for a run on the heels of COMMODORE LINCOLN (S Ruzaini), which compounded, and then when shifted inside to obtain clear running, was briefly crowded by ARECIBO (App L De Souza).

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider of HERO CHAMPION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 300M, he allowed his mount to shift persistently inwards under pressure causing FLYING WINNER to be crowded on his inside, and SEGAR THE BEST and PLAYBOY SOON to be seriously unbalanced and tightened to the inside of FLYING WINNER at about the 200M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) Malaysian race days with effect from 18 February 2019 and to expire on 16 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5pm).

MAGICAL TALENT (App WW Cheah) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, TILSWORTH MALI (SU Lim) ducked abruptly outwards and bumped FRANCES (App L De Souza).

NATION THEATRE (App A Suriya) over-raced from the 1000M to the 600M.

WINTERFELL (KC Wong) showed no response to strong pressure from the 600M and commenced to lay inwards from the 400M. A post-race veterinary examination of WINTERFELL revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of KISS ME (AM Aizat) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and was lame off fore. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 10 (R210) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

STREET CHAMP (App A Suriya) was slow to find its stride, and had to be urged to obtain a forward position in the early stages.

At about the 1100M, RED SAPPHIRE (App WW Cheah) was eased to avoid the heels of EMPEROR WARRIOR (S Ruzaini) and ducked inwards, causing LIM’S ACTION (HS Gill) to be badly crowded on his inside. At the same time, COLONEL LINCOLN (S Salee) was eased to avoid the heels of SEMIFREDDO (AM Aizat) which rolled inwards. This caused a chain reaction which led to SMIDDY BYRNE (App J Daniel) being awkwardly placed on the heels of COLONEL LINCOLN and ORION (App L De Souza) being awkwardly placed on the heels of SMIDDY BYRNE whilst also being crowded by LIM’S ACTION to his outside. Jockey J Mallyon, the rider of RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN, had to take evasive action to avoid the heels of ORION causing his mount to lose ground.

At about the 400M, LIM’S ACTION was shifted outwards to obtain clear running.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of SEMIFREDDO, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear, causing COLONEL LINCOLN to ease and the horses following COLONEL LINCOLN to be awkwardly placed.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 25 February 2019 and to expire on 3 March 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6:15pm).

RACE 10 (R192) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE A), BRIGHT FUTURE STAKES, SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

A post-race veterinary examination of SUCCESSION (HS Gill) revealed no significant finding. SUCCESSION will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance. The gelding was impounded.

RACE 9 (R191) CLASS 4 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A), GREAT WEALTH STAKES, SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 15 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of CHAR KWAY TEOW in the above race. They took evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer C Leck, the rider and trainer of CHAR KWAY TEOW. Also present to give evidence were the Starter, Assistant Starter and Barrier Attendant Khangharam Choudhary.

Trainer C Leck stated that he had instructed M Ganeesh to ride CHAR KWAY TEOW wherever comfortable, but above all not to rush the gelding in the early stages. He added that CHAR KWAY TEOW had displayed difficult barrier manners in two recent Barrier Practices and demonstrated a tendency to rear up. As such, Jockey M Ganeesh, who had ridden him in both practices, requested for the gelding to be attended to prevent a recurrence. Having reviewed the vision of the start, both Trainer C Leck and Jockey M Ganeesh stated that CHAR KWAY TEOW was responsible for his own slow jump in that the gelding shifted backwards just before the gate opened. They added that although Khangharam Choudhary had released his grip on the bridle slightly too late after the gate had opened, this had no material effect.

After reviewing the vision of the whole race after the jump, and hearing further evidence, Jockey M Ganeesh was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride CHAR KWAY TEOW to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were:

i)      Between about the 850M and the 650M, he made insufficient effort to improve his position when a clear opportunity was available to do so by progressing into the gap between DROUGHT on the outside and SOON SEEKER on the inside.

ii)     From just before the 400M to just before the 200M, he used his whip in a manner different to his normal style of riding a finish and which appeared to be less effective, in that several of his attempted strikes made little or no contact.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s riding record, his mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month. This suspension will commence on 18 February 2019, to be served consecutively following the completion of his suspension from Monday, 11 February 2019 until Sunday, 17 February 2019, both dates inclusive (2 Malaysian race days).

An application to defer the commencement of the suspension under the terms of MRA Rule 48(5) was refused. Jockey M Ganeesh was advised of his Right of Appeal against both the suspension imposed and the refusal to defer its commencement.

Jockey M Ganeesh subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal against the refusal to defer the commencement of his suspension, on the grounds that he had provisionally accepted mounts for the Selangor Turf Club race day on Saturday, 23 February 2019. A list of seven (7) potential mounts was provided to the Racing Stewards who will deliberate on his appeal.

INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING A REPORT FROM SELANGOR TURF CLUB (SLTC) MEDICAL STAFF IN RELATION TO TWO (2) HORSES TRAINED BY TRAINER S SIVA ON TUESDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2019 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB

The Stewards, on 16 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into a report from a member of the SLTC Medical Staff that he had observed two horses under the training of Trainer S Siva returning from the training track at approximately 6:08am on Tuesday, 12 February 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, over 20 minutes before the training track was officially open.

Trainer S Siva admitted that ALIEN and BUKIT SUBANG had used the Sand Ring before it was officially open, but stated that his staff had assumed this not to be the case as the floodlights were already operational, and the gate was open and unguarded.

The Stewards undertook to review security procedures at the training tracks. They also reminded Trainer S Siva of his responsibility to ensure that his staff comply with all Club Regulations.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R183) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

CHINESE NEW YEAR STAKES

SMIDDY BYRNE (App S Uzair) which was slowly away and behind, was shifted wide to make progress from approaching the 500M but thereafter laid out, and raced very wide approaching the 400M.

LIKA TIGER (AK Lim) over-raced without cover in the early stages. Jockey AK Lim reported after the race that his horse was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of LIKA TIGER revealed no significant finding. LIKA TIGER which was beaten 18 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Trainer S Siva into the improved performance of MR EPIC (R Rueven). He stated that in his opinion, MR EPIC preferred to race in his home-base and was carrying a light weight today. He added that he had not specifically instructed Jockey R Rueven to take the lead but told him to sit where the gelding was comfortable and he was able to take the lead easily as there was a lack of competition to do so.

LUCKY STAR STAKES

CHAIMAN WIND (AM Aizat) was slow to begin.

GOLDHILL PRINCESS (J De Souza) was slow to find its stride.

SATELLITE GOLDEN (S Ruzaini) over-raced in the early stages and as a consequence, took the lead approaching the 800M contrary to the riding instructions given. Thereafter SATELLITE GOLDEN laid outwards at about the 600M and in doing so, caused BLIXEM (J Low) and AMAZING (App S Uzair) to be taken wide.

AMAZING (App S Uzair) which was taken wide between the 600M and the 400M, continued to lay outwards in the straight and finished wide out.

SCRAT (M Ganeesh) laid inwards under pressure approaching the 200M.

When questioned about the performance of SATELLITE GOLDEN, Jockey S Ruzaini stated that the gelding appeared to have a nervous temperament, became excitable, and was impossible to control in the race itself. He added that he will encourage the Trainer to try different gear in future.

RACE 3 (R185) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

  HAPPINESS AND PEACE STAKES

This race was rescheduled to start at 2:20pm.

GOOD DEAL (M Ganeesh) was slow to begin. Bearing in mind that GOOD DEAL was slow to find its stride on its 2 previous starts on 6 January 2019 and 19 January 2019, and prior to that, stood still as the barrier opened on 6 December 2018, GOOD DEAL will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again, to demonstrate that he is able to jump on terms.

In the early stages, LIM’S SINCERE (HS Gill) was briefly crowded between D’GREAT EMINENCE (KC Wong) on the inside and VOYAGER (SU Lim) on the outside.

SATTAR (S Ruzaini) which got its head up on jumping, commenced to over-race at the 1000M and had to be restrained to avoid running onto the heels of D’GREAT EMINENCE.

DANZEB (O Chavez) raced wide in the middle stages.

At about the 600M, UNSURPASSED (HK Cheng) had to be eased to avoid the heels of D’GREAT EMINENCE.

Approaching the 500M, ELTORDILLO (App A Zaimuddin) had to be eased to avoid the heels of MORE POWER (J De Souza).

VOYAGER (SU Lim), which was outpaced in the middle stages, commenced to rally at the 400M and was denied clear running between the 300M and the 200M, and had to be switched repeatedly outwards and shifted abruptly across the heels of MORE POWER (J De Souza) in order to obtain a clear passage approaching the 100M.

After the race, the Stewards interviewed Trainer SY Lim as to why the winner, EL TORDILLO had been taken into the enclosure for post-race winning photographs prior to the weigh-in. Trainer SY Lim explained that the member of staff who led the horse in became over excited. The Stewards reminded Trainer SY Lim that it is his responsibility to ensure that the weigh-in is not unnecessarily delayed, and to ensure that his staff are aware of the correct procedure, failing which, action may be taken against him.

RACE 4 (R186) OPEN NOVICE (SW) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SAFAR GEMILANG CUP 2

This race was rescheduled to start at 2:50pm.

Approaching the 1100M, CONFEAT (O Chavez) laid abruptly inwards causing WAR DRAGON (Y Aify) which shied away from CONFEAT and crowded READY TO FORCE (J De Souza), SWIFT EMBRACE (App A Zaimuddin) and SATELLITE MASTER (Z Khairil). After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Jockey C Goon, the rider of AMERICA TYCOON, reported that his horse raced greenly.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey O Chavez, the rider of CONFEAT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 200M, he shifted inwards when not clear of READY TO FORCE (J De Souza) causing Jockey J De Souza to ease and shift outwards for clear running.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey O Chavez’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 11 February 2019 and to expire on 17 February 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:15pm).

RACE 6 (R188) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

SAFAR247 ASIA PACIFIC CUP

This race was rescheduled to start at 4pm.

Prior to the running of this race, Trainer F Maynard, the trainer of D’GREAT RUN (KC Wong) informed the Stewards that the gelding would be ridden well-back in the field on this occasion. In the early stages D’GREAT RUN raced keenly when restrained.

L’KEN (C Goon) was slow to begin.

PREMIUM RUSH (I Saifudin) was slow to begin, and had to be urged to recover its position in the early stages. At about the 1100M, PREMIUM RUSH was steadied to avoid the heels of PACIFIC PEARL (J Low).

Approaching the 1200M, ELITE ROCKET (App A Zaimuddin) laid inwards causing GENERAL MARSHALL (HS Gill) to be crowded on his inside, whereupon GENERAL MARSHALL commenced to over-race and got its head up in response to being restrained.

Approaching the 400M, SUPREME SUPREME (SU Lim) laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty, causing PACIFIC PEARL, which was following, to be carried wide and JEFFREY (J Mallyon) and L’KEN, which were following PACIFIC PEARL, to be taken wide out.

Approaching the 150M, PACIFIC PEARL shifted abruptly inwards in response to the rider changing his whip to the right hand. PACIFIC PEARL was eased and corrected at about the 100M.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1kg overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

When questioned as to the front running tactics employed on ELITE ROCKET (App A Zaimuddin) which dead-heated for second placing, Trainer BT Lim stated that he had instructed the rider to sit wherever comfortable. ELITE ROCKET had raced well-back in the field in its previous start but Trainer BT Lim explained that in his opinion, the gelding which is still a maiden, does not really have an established racing pattern. He added that the longer distance and lower class of today’s race had enabled ELITE ROCKET to race more prominently without coming under undue pressure. The Stewards accepted his explanation.

RACE 7 (R189) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

SAFAR247 STAKES

This race was rescheduled to start at 4:35pm.

Acting on veterinary advice that MR PAULANDRE (Z Khairil) was caught up in the gate whilst being loaded and had sustained laceration over the left stifle and flank, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 4:40pm. MR PAULANDRE will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

ELITE CONQUEROR (App A Zaimuddin) stood still as the gates opened and was very slow to begin. App A Zaimuddin stated that ELITE CONQUEROR was installed for a long time before the start was effected and had lost concentration. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again to demonstrate that it is capable of jumping on terms. A post-race veterinary examination of ELITE CONQUEROR revealed no significant finding.

Approaching the 200M, MR HOPKINS (S Ruzaini) was disappointed for a run on the heels of ELITE CONQUEROR and had to be shifted outwards to obtain a clear passage.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1kg overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of BRILLIANT DEAL, reported to the Stewards post-race that his instructions were to take a handy position but he felt that the early pace was slow, and it would be advantageous to take the lead, which he did at the 800M.

Jockey KC Wong, the rider of RAINBOW FISH, reported that his horse stumbled in the first few strides. After reviewing the vision of the incident, the Stewards established that the stumble had not affected RAINBOW FISH’s momentum to a significant degree.

ENCOSTA ZONE (HK Cheng) was slow to begin.

GASSUR (S Ruzaini) jumped outwards and bumped NINETYSEVENEMPEROR (SU Lim) outwards.

GASSUR over-raced in the early stages and as a consequence, the rider was unable to obtain cover behind NINETYSEVENEMPEROR, and was forced to race wide in the middle stages and forfeited ground.

Approaching the 400M, TRIPLE ONE STAR (App WW Cheah) was disappointed for a run on the heels of WINNING TANGO (M Ganeesh).

NINETYSEVENEMPEROR which finished last, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of LA FAMILIA, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of LA FAMILIA revealed no significant finding.

GREAT WEALTH STAKES

This race was rescheduled to start at 5:40pm.

SOON SEEKER (I Saifudin) was slow to find its stride.

CASEY (S Ruzaini) which drew a wide barrier, raced wide throughout.

OPTIMUS (KC Wong) laid inwards under pressure from the 200M.

An inquiry was commenced into the running and handling of CHAR KWAY TEOW. The Stewards took initial evidence from Jockey M Ganeesh and Trainer BT Lim, the representative for Trainer C Leck, the Trainer of CHAR KWAY TEOW. The Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed. A post-race veterinary examination of CHAR KWAY TEOW revealed no significant finding.

Trainer S Edwards was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DROUGHT (Z Khairil). He explained that in his opinion, the rain-affected track would not have suited the gelding and added that DROUGHT is light-framed and as such may have struggled to carry top weight of 59kgs in today’s race. BRIGHT FUTURE STAKES

This race was rescheduled to start at 6:05pm.

BLUE EYED BOY (J Mallyon) stood still briefly as the gates opened and forfeited ground.

REAL MEAN (J De Souza) jumped slowly and awkwardly inwards and got behind in the early stages as a consequence.

At about the 500M, M SEVEN (S Ruzaini) shifted slightly outwards causing SWIFT (SU Lim) which was following, to be briefly inconvenienced.

Approaching 400M, D’GREAT SWIFT (KC Wong) shifted inwards under a right-hand drive causing STREET OF LONDON (Z Khairil) to be eased in order to avoid the heels of D’GREAT SWIFT. Jockey KC Wong was warned to take greater care to keep his horses straight under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 400M, TOP TURF (HK Cheng) shifted abruptly inwards.

Trainer R Lines was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of D’GREAT SWIFT (KC Wong). He added that D’GREAT SWIFT is a particularly small horse and that prior to the race, he had suggested to the owner that it might be best to engage a claiming rider as D’GREAT SWIFT was allocated top weight of 59kgs. However, the owner preferred to engage Jockey KC Wong who does not claim. Trainer R Lines was of the opinion that the weight carried may have contributed to the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT SWIFT revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S MASTER (App A Zaimuddin) revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

AMENDMENT

RACE 8 (R096) CLASS 3 – 1600M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 20 JANUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2019

Jockey J Mallyon was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1/2kg over on MR PAULANDRE.

ADDENDUM

RACE 5 (R170) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), WISH COME TRUE STAKES, WEDNESDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

At the conclusion of an inquiry, the Stewards charged Jockey M Ganeesh who was found guilty under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Jockey M Ganeesh subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was allowed. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 1 (R166) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A), BEST OF LUCK STAKES, WEDNESDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

The Stewards inquired into the running and handling of BLACK DIAMOND. They took evidence from Trainer R Lines and Jockey J De Souza, the trainer and rider of BLACK DIAMOND respectively.

Trainer R Lines stated that BLACK DIAMOND had raced twice since being transferred to him and was disappointing on both occasions. He added that the gelding seems to be much better in trackwork that his performances in races indicate and he was unsure how he should be ridden to the best advantage. He therefore instructed Jockey J De Souza to ride with patience in the hope that BLACK DIAMOND would finish strongly.

Jockey J De Souza stated that he focused on relaxing BLACK DIAMOND in the first half of the race, and then shifted out approaching the 600M to close on the leaders. When asked why he did not display greater vigour at that point of the race, he replied that he was attempting to carry out his riding instructions. He added that BLACK DIAMOND finished the race well.

Having heard the evidence tendered and reviewed the vision of the race, the Stewards warned Jockey J De Souza that he must always be seen to ride in a positive manner and demonstrate urgency when appropriate, failing which, action may be taken against him in future.

RACE 1 (R166) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (SHORT COURSE A), BEST OF LUCK STAKES, WEDNESDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

An inquiry was held into the running and handling of I’M A GENIUS (Z Khairil) in the above race. The Stewards took evidence from Jockey Z Khairil and Trainer S Hamilton, the rider and trainer of I’M A GENIUS respectively.

Jockey Z Khairil stated that he had been instructed to sit where the gelding was comfortable but had received a slight check from MUSANG KING (M Ganeesh) at the 1000M and lost his position. He added that I’M A GENIUS’ response in the concluding stages was no more than fair.

Trainer S Hamilton explained that I’M A GENIUS, who had not raced for 5 weeks, may have been short of peak condition.

Having reviewed the vision of the race in conjunction with this evidence, the Stewards accepted the explanations tendered.

RACE 2 (R167) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), ABUNDANCE OF JOY STAKES, WEDNESDAY, 6 FEBRUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB FEBRUARY MEETING 2019

The Stewards inquired into the possible interference in the straight and took evidence from App WW Cheah, the rider of DRAGON WALK, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines who is also the trainer of DRAGON WALK.

The Stewards found that App WW Cheah had allowed DRAGON WALK to shift inwards when not clear of SEMIFREDDO (SU Lim) approaching the 300M and again at the 200M, causing SEMIFREDDO minor inconvenience on both occasions. They severely cautioned App WW Cheah about the poor standard of awareness he displayed in this incident and warned him to improve in this regard under similar circumstances in future.

RACE 2 (R167) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

ABUNDANCE OF JOY STAKES

Acting on veterinary advice that LIM’S RANGER (C Goon) had sustained a cut to its near hind quarters (float injury), the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 2:05pm. The mare will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

PEACH BOWL was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon at the request of Jockey R Shafiq at the start and was passed fit to race.

GOOD VIBRATIONS (App L De Souza) was carried outwards by D’GREAT ELEGANCE (KC Wong) which jumped outwards and as a consequence, GOOD VIBRATIONS brushed with SUPER GOOD (J De Souza).

POLO GAGA (S Ruzaini) was slow to find its stride and had to be strongly urged to obtain a midfield position.

JET ACE (O Chavez) which was drawn outside, raced wide throughout.

At the 1100M, SUPER GOOD laid inwards causing GOOD VIBRATIONS to be crowded between SUPER GOOD and D’GREAT ELEGANCE. Thereafter GOOD VIBRATIONS was outpaced and forfeited ground.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of SEMIFREDDO, reported post-race that he had been crowded against the rail approaching the 300M and again at about the 200M by DRAGON WALK (App WW Cheah) which laid inwards. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

From the 200M, LINING TOGETHER (M Ganeesh) laid outwards under pressure.

OVER FLOWING TREASURES STAKES

JABBAR (O Chavez) was slow to begin, and thereafter laid inwards under pressure between the 400M and the 200M.

Approaching the 1100M, HANGMAN (KC Wong) was crowded by LIM’S SENSATION (HS Gill) which shifted inwards in response to being crowded by MACHUNG STAR (J Low). Jockey J Low, the rider of MACHUNG STAR, was shown the vision of the incident and warned by the Stewards to allow sufficient room for horses on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 600M, SEGAR THE BEST (App A Zaimuddin) was eased to avoid the heels of HANGMAN. Thereafter SEGAR THE BEST was disappointed for clear running on the heels of LUCKY SIXTYSIX (Z Khairil) between the 550M and the 400M, and was forced to switch wide out to obtain clear running at the 300M.

App A Zaimuddin, the rider of SEGAR THE BEST, which was denied a run, was reminded of his responsibilities under MRA Rule 44(11) to report to the Stipendiary Stewards as soon as possible after riding in a race should he become aware of anything that may have affected the performance or the chances of his horse in the race.

Post-race veterinary examinations of POWERFUL FIGHTER (J De Souza) and JABBAR revealed that the geldings returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S SENSATION revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

CHAMPAGNE ROSE (App L De Souza) was very slow to begin and jumped away awkwardly.

ABEBE (M Ganeesh) was slow to begin.

JUST DUIT (S Muniandy) showed no pace in the early stages despite being urged. Jockey S Muniandy reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of JUST DUIT revealed that the gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At about the 400M, RANT AND RAVE (J Low) shifted sharply inwards to obtain a run on the inside of D’GREAT WALK (KC Wong).

From the 200M, SAND BANK (R Rueven) shifted gradually outwards under pressure.

Post-race veterinary examinations of D’GREAT WALK and BELIEVE IT OR NOT (SU Lim) revealed that the geldings returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will each be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 5 (R170) CLASS 4 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

WISH COME TRUE STAKES

WE’RE THE WORLD (M Ganeesh) jumped inwards and brushed with D’GREAT ERA (HK Cheng) which jumped outwards.

LIM’S KEYWAY (HS Gill) threw its head up on jumping and was slow to begin as a consequence.

KUTTNER (KC Wong) was slow to find its stride.

Approaching the 1000M, PLAYBOY SOON (App S Uzair) was crowded between LIM’S KEYWAY which laid outwards and KUTTNER which laid inwards. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

KUTTNER shifted inwards under pressure approaching the 200M, forcing Jockey KC Wong to ease and correct, and again shifted inwards under pressure approaching the 100M.

Prior to this race, Trainer SY Lim was questioned by the Stewards about his riding instructions to Jockey M Ganeesh for WE’RE THE WORLD, which won its last start but has demonstrated a variable racing pattern depending on the distance of the race. In the presence of Jockey M Ganeesh, he stated that he wished him to sit where the gelding was comfortable, but hoped that WE’RE THE WORLD would demonstrate sufficient speed to take a forward position.

In the race, WE’RE THE WORLD was positioned in rear until the straight. An inquiry was held into the running and handling of WE’RE THE WORLD. At the conclusion of the inquiry, the Stewards charged Jockey M Ganeesh under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were:

 1.      After brushing with D’GREAT ERA shortly after the jump, he chose to restrain WE’RE THE WORLD when he could have attempted to follow D’GREAT ERA and improve into midfield in the early stages.

2.       Approaching the 600M, he opted for an ambitious and unlikely inside run when he could have eased back less than one length and attempted to develop a run to the outside of BURN NOTICE (Y Aify).

3.       After switching outside for clear running which he obtained at about the 300m, he rode with insufficient vigour between the 300M and the 200M.

4.       When WE’RE THE WORLD commenced to shift inwards at about the 100M, his efforts to correct and straighten while riding a vigorous finish were not of the expected standard.

5.       From about the 100M, he took too long to pull his whip through to the left hand and was therefore unable to use it in the concluding stages.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s poor record pertaining to charges laid under MRA Rule 44(10), his mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months with effect from 11 February 2019 and to expire on 10 August 2019, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with his suspension in Race 7 today. He was also fined RM20,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

FIRST DANCE (R Shafiq) jumped outwards and brushed with WOW (App S Uzair).

At about the 1000M, SHOQEET (O Chavez) was crowded by AWATERE (J Low) to his outside and lost ground.

At about the 400M, D’GREAT DANGER (R Rueven) was briefly disappointed for a run on the heels of PROBABLY (Z Khairil) which compounded.

GADAWON (S Ruzaini) which drew a wide barrier, raced wide throughout. GADAWON which was beaten 23 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Between the 400M and the 200M, BACH’S AIR (S Salee) laid inwards under pressure.

A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT DANGER revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Trainer R Lines, the trainer of the winner, METIER STAR, was questioned regarding the improved performance in today’s race. He stated that METIER STAR had received interference shortly after the start last time out. He added that the gelding seems to go better for a strong rider and as such the switch to a more experienced apprentice had assisted. He further explained that METIER STAR had struggled to act on the track as his previous start, which was officially “Good” but he considered it to be loose on top.

GOOD HEALTH STAKES

THREE LIONS (App A Zaimuddin) was slow to find its stride.

SUPER EIGHT (O Chavez) had to be urged in the early stages.

At about the 200M, CHAR SIEW (M Ganeesh) commenced to lay outwards under pressure causing SUPER EIGHT which was following, to be taken outwards in response and denied his rightful running.

An objection was lodged by Jockey O Chavez, the rider of SUPER EIGHT, placed third, against CHAR SIEW (M Ganeesh), placed second, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 150M mark. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of CHAR SIEW, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that at about the 150M, he allowed his mount to shift outwards without adequate corrective measures, when not sufficiently clear of SUPER EIGHT.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Ganeesh’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 11 February 2019 and to expire on 17 February 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

A post-race veterinary examination of THREE LIONS revealed no significant finding. The gelding which was beaten 30 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

AMENDED

RACE 3 (R082) CLASS 5 (A) – 1500M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 19 JANUARY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 31 January 2019 (Thursday) at the Selangor Turf Club, enquired into the running and handling of BIG PARIS and took evidence from Jockey HS Gill and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of BIG PARIS respectively.

Trainer SY Lim stated that BIG PARIS, which is a maiden, tends to perform best when ridden handy. The gelding has also raced well when allowed to lead, but it is not essential that it does so.

Jockey HS Gill stated that BIG PARIS was never travelling with any fluency, and carried his head awkwardly under pressure in the middle stages. He added that BIG PARIS responded just fairly in the straight and was one-paced. The Stewards observed that in the last 400M, Jockey HS Gill appeared to ride in a manner different to his usual style. He seemed not to be in rhythm with his mount and was upright in the saddle, in comparison to his riding in Races 2 and 9 on the same day.

Jockey HS Gill explained that BIG PARIS laid outwards in the last 400M and therefore he kept a tight grip of the left rein and shifted his weight inwards in response. This may have caused him to appear more upright than usual, and he admitted that he found it difficult to keep rhythm with the gelding whose response was, in any case, limited. He had reported to a Stipendiary Steward immediately after the race that BIG PARIS was not striding out well, but failed to mention the fact that it also laid outwards.

Having heard this evidence and viewed the vision of the race, the Stewards accepted Jockey HS Gill’s explanation but warned him that, in future, he must take care to comply with his responsibilities under MRA Rule 44(11) to report to the Stipendiary Stewards anything that may have affected the performance of his horse in the race.

TIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2019

SUNDAY, 20 JANUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R089) CLASS 5 (A) – 1500M (LONG COURSE B)

REAL MEAN (J De Souza) jumped awkwardly inwards and was slow to begin.

Jockey C Goon, the rider of BIG BUS, was unable to obtain cover in the early stages and as a consequence, the gelding over-raced.

At about the 500M, SANDY MIGHT (App WW Cheah) laid outwards on the bend causing HAHA BABE (R Rueven) to be inconvenienced.

Between the 400M and the 250M, D’GREAT ACHIEVER (App CK Khaw) was disappointed for a run on the heels of SANDY MIGHT and was shifted outwards to obtain clear running approaching the 200M.

Approaching the 200M, SWINGLOWSWEETJACKY (App A Zaimuddin) was held up for clear running and at about the 100M, was inconvenienced by HAHA BABE dropping back.

Between the 150M and the 50M, M SEVEN (AK Lim) was briefly denied a clear run on the heels of ARLO (S Ruzaini) and subsequently raced in a narrow gap between ARLO and the rail.

RACE 2 (R090) CLASS 5 (A) – 1800M (LONG COURSE B)

App A Suriya, the rider of STREET CHAMP, dropped his whip in the concluding stages and finished 2nd, beaten by a short-head. After reviewing the head-on vision of the incident, the Stewards were satisfied that the whip drop was accidental. However, they imposed a fine of RM1000/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).

RED EMPRESS (HS Gill) which was beaten 18 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned Trainer WC Lim into the disappointing performance of POLO MASTER (S Ruzaini) which was beaten 18 1/4 lengths.  Trainer WC Lim stated that he had no explanation, and a post-race veterinary examination of POLO MASTER revealed no significant finding. As POLO MASTER was a last-start winner, Trainer WC Lim’s attention was drawn to the provisions of MRA Rule 117(3) regarding in and out running. POLO MASTER which was beaten 18 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

An inquiry was commenced into the running and handling of D’GREAT SWIFT (App CK Khaw). Evidence was taken from Mr TP Tang, the Owner of D’GREAT SWIFT and also the part owner (50%) of JJ STAR, which won the race. Mr Woon Chiun Wey, the Racing Manager of D’Great Stable, attended to assist with translation and to give his own observations.

Mr TP Tang stated that he expected both D’GREAT SWIFT and JJ STAR to perform well, and accordingly supported both horses in equal amounts. He stated that he was satisfied with the ride given to D’GREAT SWIFT.

Mr Woon Chiun Wey stated that he believe that the slow pace of the race had disadvantaged D’GREAT SWIFT. The inquiry will be continued at a date to be fixed in order to take evidence from App CK Khaw and Trainer R Lines.

RACE 3 (R091) CLASS 4 (A) – 1500M (LONG COURSE B)

Trainer SB Tan was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission for Jockey M Ganeesh to ride 1kg over on BRILLIANT DEAL in Race 3 (R091) on 20 January 2019 (Sunday) at the Selangor Turf Club.

PARISBAS (App A Zaimuddin) jumped outwards and brushed with GROUND CONTROL (S Mutaza).

FIRST PRECINCT (J De Souza) showed no pace in the early stages despite being urged.

Approaching the 200M, GASSUR (S Ruzaini) was shifted outwards to obtain clear running, laid outwards and brushed with BRILLIANT DEAL (O Chavez).

RACE 4 (R092) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

Trainer HS Lim was fined RM1000/- as the passport of GOLDEN TYCOON (S Ruzaini) was not available for inspection. As such GOLDEN TYCOON was not permitted to race under MRA Regulation 10.1(c) and was scratched by the Stewards.

LIGHTNING HERO (C Goon) was slow to find its stride.

ZOLVED (M Ganeesh) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 900M, SUN COIN (S Anandan) shifted inwards causing DETERMINETOSTRIKE (App L De Souza) to clip the heels of SUN COIN and to dip.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Anandan, the rider of SUN COIN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 900M, he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DETERMINETOSTRIKE.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Anandan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, good riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 21 January 2019 and to expire on 2 February 2019, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Between the 400M and the 300M, DETERMINETOSTRIKE was held up for clear running when attempting to find a narrow gap between SUPREME SUPREME (HS Gill) to the inside and BEAUTIFUL ONE (S Muniandy) to the outside.

At about the 300M, SUPREME SUPREME shifted abruptly outwards causing DETERMINETOSTRIKE to be crowded and unbalanced, to lay inwards and to lose ground. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Approaching 100M, SUPERWISE (J De Souza) laid inwards in response to SUN COIN shifting inwards towards her and in doing so, SUPERWISE caused CONFEAT (O Chavez) to be briefly crowded against the rail.

THESE STREETS (R Rueven) which was fractious in the barrier, jumped awkwardly outwards and then bounded outwards and lost considerable ground. When questioned, Jockey R Rueven explained that when THESE STREETS became fractious, the barrier attendant took hold of the bridle for fear that the gelding would plunge. In doing so, he accidentally loosened the bridle leaving Jockey R Rueven with limited control in the early stages. THESE STREETS, which returned lame near fore, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

TILSWORTH FREDDIE (C Goon) showed no pace despite being urged.

CAPTAIN JAZZ (App CK Khaw) raced wide and laid outwards throughout. The gelding which returned lame off fore, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey S Anandan reported that LIM’S SHOWCASE laid outwards at about the 500M and negotiated the bend with difficulty. The gelding which returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Jockey A Aucharuz was declared to ride HIP HIP HOORAY but was unable to do so for medical reasons. Trainer SY Lim made an application to the Stewards for Jockey S Mutaza, a 1kg claiming Jockey, to be substituted as HIP HIP HOORAY has a history of unruly behaviour and Jockey S Mutaza is familiar with the gelding’s temperament. The Stewards acceded to this request.

PANDA BOMB (S Ruzaini) laid inwards on jumping, bumped with SATELLITE BOY (Z Khairil), threw its head up and lost ground. When questioned, Jockey S Ruzaini reported that PANDA BOMB, after being crowded on jumping, just travelled fairly in the race and that his response to pressure was also no more than fair.

At about the 1000M, D’GREAT LIGHT (J Low) laid inwards causing PANDA BOMB to be eased to avoid his heels.

CONDADO (R Rueven) came under pressure from the middle stages. Jockey R Rueven reported that the gelding was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of CONDADO revealed no significant finding.

Between the 500M and the 400M, SHOWBOY (O Chavez) was disappointed for a run on the heels of TAFFETAS (J De Souza). SHOWBOY was angled outwards for clear running between the 400M and the 250M.

Approaching the 400M, D’GREAT LIGHT was denied clear running on the heels of HIP HIP HOORAY (S Mutaza), which weakened. D’GREAT LIGHT had to be shifted abruptly outwards at the 400M and thereafter raced wide out.

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2019

SATURDAY, 19 JANUARY 2019

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R080) CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

Jockey Y Aify was declared to ride VELLENEX GENERAL but was unable to do so for medical reasons. An application was made for 1kg claiming Jockey AK Lim to be substituted. The Stewards acceded to this request, noting that AK Lim is considered to be a leading rider despite still claiming a 1kg allowance.

Approaching the 1100M, SEMIFREDDO (S Mutaza) was crowded on the inside of VELLENEX GENERAL (AK Lim) which was crowded to the inside of NOVA POWER (S Ruzaini) and LIM’S CHARGE (App A Zaimuddin). App A Zaimuddin, in the presence of his Master, Trainer BT Lim, was shown the vision of the incident and severely warned that he must allow sufficient space to runners on his inside under similar circumstances in future.

Approaching the 500M, SUPER JOY (App A Suriya) was forced to race wide in order to make progress and thereafter continued to lay outwards and finished wide out.

MONTE CARLO (R Rueven) laid inwards under pressure from the 200M. Jockey R Rueven reported that his horse was not striding out to his satisfaction. A post-race veterinary examination of MONTE CARLO revealed that it was lame near fore and exhibiting signs of respiratory distress, and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines regarding the different tactics employed on ENDURANCE (App L De Souza) which led until the closing stages. Trainer R Lines explained that he had instructed App L De Souza to obtain a handy position but that no other rider attempted to take the lead and therefore App L De Souza found himself in front.  Trainer R Lines also stated that in his opinion, the easy lead had contributed to the improved performance from ENDURANCE.

RACE 2 (R081) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

ORIENTAL SPIRIT (J Mallyon) jumped outwards causing NOVA SPIRIT (S Ruzaini) which was slow to begin, to be carried outwards and to brush with WINTERFELL (App L De Souza).

NOVA SPIRIT was slow to find its stride and had to be strongly urged to obtain a midfield position.

Approaching the 1000M, TAKE A BOW (App S Uzair) shied away from ZENZERO (App A Suriya) on his outside and as a result, became awkwardly placed on the heels of WINTERFELL. As a consequence, App S Uzair was forced to check and ZENZERO lost ground.

Approaching the 400M, TAKE A BOW was disappointed for a run on the heels of WINTEFELL and was switched wide to obtain clear running. Thereafter TAKE A BOW commenced to lay outwards, in response to which App S Uzair used his whip down the shoulder in the forehand to straighten his mount. App S Uzair, in the presence of his Master, Trainer L Moy, was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he may only use his whip in such a manner in an emergency situation and should attempt to straighten his mount using his reins.

From the 400M to the 200M, NOVA SPIRIT laid persistently outwards and caused WINTERFELL which was challenging on NOVA SPIRIT’s outside, to be taken outwards.

SABIK which was beaten 19 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Jockey Y Aify was declared to ride TARZAN but was unable to do so for medical reasons. An application was made for 1kg claiming Jockey AK Lim to be substituted. The Stewards acceded to this request, noting that AK Lim is considered to be a leading rider despite still claiming a 1kg allowance.

ENCOSTA ZONE (J Mallyon) and APOLLO (App N Varmah) were both slow to begin.

From the 300M, D’GREAT EFFORT (J Low) commenced to lay inwards causing the rider to ease approaching the 200M to avoid running onto the heels of GHOST EMPEROR (App A Zaimuddin). Just inside the 100M, Jockey J Low was forced to ease when DUNE SAGA (R Rueven) shifted abruptly outwards into his path.

DYNAMIC EAGLE which was beaten 17 ¾  lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

Jockey R Rueven, the rider of DUNE SAGA, reported that his horse was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of DUNE SAGA revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Stewards questioned Trainer S Siva regarding the improved performance of the winner, I AM THE BOSS (HK Cheng). Trainer S Siva stated that in his opinion, the horse had improved in condition after his last start 13 days ago and benefitted from the longer distance of this race, which was 1500M as opposed to 1300M previously. He added that after reviewing I AM THE BOSS’ previous start, in which the gelding got back in the field and suffered some bumping and crowding, he instructed the jockey to ride positively to avoid such problems today. Jockey HK Cheng who rode his 151st winner on I AM THE BOSS in this race, would not be entitled to claim any allowance as from Monday, 21 January 2019.

After the running of Race 4, Jockeys J Low and Z Khairil were called before the Stewards to explain why they apparently rode with lack of initiative and allowed their mounts to be positioned well off the speed in the middle stages.

Jockey J Low stated that in his opinion, D’GREAT EFFORT was unable to close on the leaders at this point of the race. The Stewards observed that he had not made a substantial effort to do so and he was warned to ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

Jockey Z Khairil stated that SOON SEEKER is a dour stayer which would ideally be suited by further than the 1500M of today’s race and in his opinion, the horse would not have benefitted from being closer to the pace.

The Stewards noted that Jockey Z Khairil had been warned on previous occasions to take opportunities to develop his position when they present themselves. As such he too was warned to ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

GOOD DEAL (S Mutaza) was slow to find its stride.

JUBILATION (S Ruzaini) and MY GOODNESS (C Goon) showed no pace in the early and middle stages despite being urged.

At about the 300M, LIM’S SENSATION (HS Gill) shifted slightly outwards causing WINNING STAR (M Ganeesh) to be taken outwards onto the heels of DROUGHT (Z Khairil), which laid inwards. WINNING STAR was then crowded between LIM’S SENSATION and DROUGHT, became unbalanced, and lost ground. ARECIBO, which was following, was forced to switch abruptly outwards to avoid the heels of WINNING STAR.

Trainer S Edwards was questioned about the improved performance of the winner, DROUGHT, which was returning from a three month break. He stated that DROUGHT had displayed a consistently good level of form during his last preparation until his start at Perak on 20th October 2018 where he performed disappointingly with no obvious explanation, after which he decided to give the gelding a break from racing.

Approaching the 1200M, ELITE ROCKET (App A Zaimuddin) was restrained to take a position following UNION JAC (HS Gill) on the inside. Immediately afterwards, ELITE ROCKET commenced to race ungenerously and lost ground.

Between the 500M and the 400M, ELITE ROCKET was held up for a clear run on the heels of SMART MASTER (S Mutaza).

Approaching the 200M, SMART MASTER was disappointed for a run on the heels of IMMORTAL LEGACY (AK Lim) and when shifted outwards to obtain clear running, caused JUST DUIT (S Muniandy) to be taken outwards onto the heels of BOOSTER. At about the 150M, SMART MASTER slipped outwards and bumped with JUST DUIT.

From the 100M, ELITE ROCKET laid outwards under pressure and when racing in close proximity with D’GREAT SUPREME (J Low), App A Zaimuddin accidentally knocked Jockey J Low’s whip from his hand.

MORALES which was beaten 26 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Mutaza, the rider of SMART MASTER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to shift outwards from the 200M without leaving sufficient room for horses which were already on his outside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Mutaza’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Selangor Turf Club race days with effect from 21 January 2019 and to expire on 10 February 2019, both dates inclusive. When questioned by the Stewards, he further reported that ORION seemed to be moving short on his near fore from approximately the 600M. He added that ORION laid inwards approaching the 400M. A post-race veterinary examination of ORION revealed no significant finding.

NOVA GENERAL (App CK Khaw) which was beaten 21 ¼ lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

M SEVEN (S Ruzaini) showed no pace in the early stages.

Approaching the 1000M, DETERMINETOSTRIKE (App L De Souza) shied away from D’GREAT RUN (App CK Khaw), which laid slightly outwards, and in doing so, DETERMINETOSTRIKE bumped I AM THE BOSS (AM Aizat). As a consequence, I AM THE BOSS was awkwardly placed on the heels of LAW BY LAW (HS Gill) for a few strides.

At about the 1000M, I AM THE BOSS was crowded between DETERMINETOSTRIKE on his inside and MISE EN GARDE (J Mallyon) on his outside and lost his position.

LAW BY LAW laid outwards between the 600M and the 500M, and at about the 500M, stepped outwards, brushed with MISE EN GARDE and briefly became unbalanced.

RACE 8 (R026) METRO A – 1700M (LONG COURSE B)

SUNNY (J De Souza) was slow to begin.

LUCKY JUSTICE (A Aucharuz) jumped inwards, causing GOD HELPS ME (App L De Souza) to be carried inwards and STAR INVINCIBLE (S Ruzaini) to be crowded between GOLD HELPS ME and MR PAULANDRE (J Mallyon).

Approaching the 1000M, BIG DALLAS (HS Gill) got its head up in response to the rider attempting to obtain cover between HIGH COUNCIL (App CK Khaw) and as a result, BIG DALLAS was unable to obtain cover and raced wide in the middle stages.

THE JEUNEYMAN (Y Aify) raced wide throughout and returned having cast its near fore plate. The gelding which was beaten 18 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again due to its poor performance and difficult racing manners.

Approaching the 500M, LUCKY JUSTICE laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty causing BIG DALLAS to be eased to avoid his heels.

RACE 9 (R027) CLASS 4 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

SPIN FIRE (M Ganeesh) jumped outwards and SWIFT (S Anandan) jumped inwards causing SOON SEEKER (Z Khairil) to be crowded between them.

LIM’S KEYWAY (App J Daniel) jumped awkwardly inwards and brushed with SWIFT before being corrected.

ELITE GENERAL (HS Gill) showed a tendency to over-race in the early stages and had to be eased on more than one occasion to avoid running onto heels.

Approaching the 1000M, ELITE GENERAL laid inwards when over-racing and under restraint, causing BUKIT SUBANG (KC Wong) to be briefly crowded between ELITE GENERAL and FULL BET.

SWIFT which was beaten 18 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

App J Daniel, the rider of LIM’S KEYWAY, reported that his horse raced greenly.

App CK Khaw, the rider of D’GREAT SONG, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, was shown the vision of the early stages of the race and was warned by the Stewards that he must show greater awareness to other horses and riders when crossing in front in the early stages.

When questioned regarding the performance of FRENCH VINTAGE (App A Suriya), Trainer C Leck stated that due to the outside barrier today, he had instructed App A Suriya to ride conservatively in the early part of the race as the gelding has a history of breathing problems and he did not wish him to come under unnecessary pressure in the early stages. He added that in his opinion, FRENCH VINTAGE’s response in the straight was just fair. A post-race veterinary examination of FRENCH VINTAGE revealed the gelding returned broken-winded and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Stewards noted Trainer C Leck’s explanation and reminded him of his obligation under MRA Rule 35(8) which pertains to the Trainers’ responsibilities to notify the Stewards if he instructs a Jockey to ride any horse under his training in a manner different to its most recent start or starts.

RACE 10 (R028) CLASS 4 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B)

TEH TARIK (M Ganeesh) was slow to begin.

At about the 1100M, LIM’S SENSATION (App J Daniel) laid inwards causing GHOST EMPEROR (AM Aizat) to be crowded on his inside and then when corrected, laid outwards and bumped with GUILTLESS (App CK Khaw) approaching the 1000M.

Approaching the 1000M, GUILTLESS, which was bumped by LIM’S SENSATION, shifted outwards causing NEVERSAYNEVER (A Aucharuz) which was following, to be slightly checked to avoid his heels .

TEH TARIK laid outwards approaching the 500M and when corrected, produced a disappointing response to pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of TEH TARIK which was eased in the concluding stages, revealed that it was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At about the 400M, BIG SUPER (HS Gill) commenced to weaken and lose ground, and shifted inwards in response to the whip causing GUILTLESS to be crowded on the inside of BIG SUPER and to become awkwardly placed on the heels of GHOST EMPEROR. The Stewards showed the vision of the incident to Jockey HS Gill and warned him that he must take corrective measures immediately as soon as his mount shows a tendency to shift away from the whip. However, on this occasion, the Stewards recognized that BIG SUPER shifted in abruptly, having not previously demonstrated any greenness or wayward manners. Jockey HS Gill reported after the race that BIG SUPER was not striding out freely.

STREET CHAMP (App A Suriya) stood still as the gates opened despite being urged. STREET CHAMP will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again to demonstrate that it is capable to jumping on terms.

At the jump, VALERIUS (J Low) was crowded between RED EASTERN (HS Gill) which jumped inwards and JJ STAR (App CK Khaw) which was carried outwards by LIM’S STARDOM (App J Daniel). VALERIUS lost momentum and early position as a result.

In the early stages, EASTERN TOWKAY (AM Aizat) showed a tendency to over-race before being allowed to take the lead approaching the 1000M.

Approaching the 600M, LIM’S STARDOM laid inwards momentarily causing NOVA SPIRIT (S Ruzaini), which was following on LIM’S STARDOM’s inside, to be checked. After reviewing the vision of this incident, it was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of NOVA SPIRIT, reported that the interference suffered by LIM’S STARDOM approaching the 600M had caused the gelding to forfeit momentum at a crucial stage and as such his performance had more merit than the bare result.

RACE 2 (R1549) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

SURVIVAL STAKES

CASPER (R Rueven) was slow to begin.

BULL AND BEAR (M Ganeesh) was slow to find its stride and showed no pace in the early stages despite being urged.

NOVA ACE (J Low) had to be urged in the early and middle stages to stay in touch with the field before making some late progress.

When questioned, Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of JET ACE, stated that his instructions were to take 4th or 5th placing in the early stages, but that after a good jump, he was unable to safely cross in front of TEEN ANGEL (App L De Souza). He therefore restrained JET ACE in order to take a position behind TEEN ANGEL but in doing so, found himself in midfield as other horses crossed in front of him. Jockey A Aucharuz added that he asked JET ACE for an effort from the 600M but the response was just fair. Jockey A Aucharuz also informed the Stewards that JET ACE was not striding out to his satisfaction in the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of JET ACE revealed no significant finding.

RACE 3 (R1550) OPEN MAIDEN – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

FRASER (App L De Souza) was slow to begin.

NADESIKO JAPAN (S Ruzaini) was very slow to begin. The mare will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again in order to demonstrate that she is capable of jumping on terms.

At about the 200M, SLING SHOT (M Ganeesh) shied away from TAUROS (I Saifudin) which was shifted outwards to obtain clear running and in doing so, SLING SHOT caused D’GREAT ELEGANCE (J De Souza) to be slightly shifted outwards.

When questioned, Jockey J Low, the rider of PACIFIC PEARL reported to the Stewards that his instructions were to ride a very patient race as the mare had finished strongly in her previous race last week but Trainer F Maynard felt that she had peaked in her run at the 50M.  Trainer F Maynard confirmed with his instructions, adding that PACIFIC PEARL had performed significantly better in trials when ridden patiently. Jockey J Low stated that he was satisfied with his position well-back in the field in the early and middle stages, which was in accordance with his instructions. He obtained clear running at about the 200M whereupon PACIFIC PEARL commenced to rally and was finishing strongly when tightened for room in the closing stages as TAUROS shifted inwards. A post-race veterinary examination of PACIFIC PEARL revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

ANTHEIA (S Ruzaini) was slow to begin.

DETERMINETOSTRIKE (App L De Souza) over-raced in the early stages, and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of LAW BY LAW at about the 1000M and again approaching the 600M.

Approaching the 200M, ZOLVED (M Ganeesh) commenced to shift inwards under pressure causing D’GREAT MAGIC (App KC Wong) to be tightened between ZOLVED and NORMAN (J Mallyon) which shifted outwards.

RACE 5 (R1552) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (SHORT COURSE A)

The State of Track was upgraded to “Good” prior to the running of this race.

ARLO (S Ruzaini) reared as the barrier opened and was slow to begin.

SNOW DANCER (J Low) was slow to begin and showed no pace in the early and middle stages. When questioned, Jockey J Low stated that SNOW DANCER had raced with little enthusiasm and although he had commenced to rally from the 400M, his effort proved short-lived. A post-race veterinary examination of SNOW DANCER revealed no significant finding.

RED SAPPHIRE (App WW Cheah) laid outwards approaching the 400M and negotiated the bend with difficulty.

Approaching the 400M, D’GREAT SUPREME (App KC Wong) was shifted to the inside of SOON SEEKER (I Saifudin) to obtain clear running, but on straightening, the gap between SOON SEEKER and ELEGENT (S Mutaza) to his inside narrowed causing D’GREAT SUPREME to be disappointed for a run.

HAPPY BUFFALO (App A Zaimuddin) and MR CONNERY (J De Souza) brushed on a couple of occasions approaching the 200M.

HERO CHAMPION (R Rueven) laid outwards under pressure in the last 200M.

WINNING TANGO (S Mutaza) had a tendency to lay outwards in the early stages and again in the concluding stages.

Approaching the 400M, SCRAT (M Ganeesh) shifted inwards under pressure causing MERCHANT MARINE (App A Suriya) to be crowded and to brush with the rail. Jockey M Ganeesh was shown the vision of the incident and warned that he must endeavour to keep straight under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 400M, ARECIBO (J De Souza) laid inwards under pressure causing SEGAR THE BEST (C Goon) on his inside to shy inwards and to be disappointed for a run on the heels of SCRAT.

SCRAT was eased in the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SCRAT revealed no significant finding.

JUBILATION raced in rear throughout. The gelding which was beaten 12 3/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

RACE 7 (R1554) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

Prior to the running of this race, Trainer S Dunderdale advised the Stewards that FIRST DANCE (J De Souza) which was drawn outside, would be ridden back in the field due to the bad barrier. He informed the Stewards post-race that in his opinion, the change in tactics had not benefitted the performance of FIRST DANCE.

On jumping, METIER STAR (App WW Cheah) was buffeted between NOVA FALCON (S Ruzaini) which jumped outwards and FIRST DANCE (J De Souza) which was carried inwards on jumping by THE DODGER (J Low).

THE DODGER which laid inwards on jumping, had to be eased and corrected. THE DODGER subsequently compounded from the 100M. lame A post-race veterinary examination of THE DODGER revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At about the 1300M, HAPPY DAYZ (App A Suriya) commenced to over-race and had to be restrained and shifted outwards to avoid the heels of THE JEUNEYMAN (Y Aify).

Approaching the 800M, METIER STAR had to be eased to avoid the heels of NOVA FALCON.

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of NOVA FALCON, was questioned by the Stewards on why he had chosen to place NOVA FALCON back in the field when the gelding is normally a forward runner. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that as NOVA FALCON was drawn in Barrier 9, and as such his instructions were to obtain cover to avoid being caught wide. To this end, he attempted to restrain his mount to take a position behind CONFLIGHT (S Anandan) on his inside but NOVA FALCON commenced to over-race and as a consequence, he was trapped wide with no cover. Jockey S Ruzaini added that this placed his mount at a considerable disadvantage, in a strong field today.

Approaching the 1000M, VICTORY CAT (J Low) commenced to over-race in response to being crossed by PREMIUM RUSH (A Aucharuz) and drifted outwards when not fully clear of OPTIMUS (AM Aizat) which was forced to check.

PREMIUM RUSH (A Aucharuz) over-raced in the early stages.

Between the 400M and the 200M, VICTORY CAT (J Low) raced erratically, and shifted both inwards and outwards causing STREET OF LONDON (Z Khairil) to his outside and SILK ROUTE (App AK Lim) to his inside to be inconvenienced. Jockey J Low stated that at this stage, VICTORY CAT was tiring causing him to wander.

Approaching the 100M, OPTIMUS laid inwards under pressure causing VICTORY CAT which was following, to be shifted outside to avoid the heels of OPTIMUS and STREET OF LONDON which was following VICTORY CAT, to be taken wide in turn.

App WW Cheah explained that his saddle had slipped and admitted that he had not reported such at scales. He was warned that under similar circumstances in future, he must make reports of anything which may have affected the performance of his horse at the earliest possible opportunity.

At about the 1000M, PUTMONEY TAKEMONEY (App KC Wong) laid outwards causing ABEBE (M Ganeesh) to be taken outwards.

At about the 300M, ABEBE laid inwards causing PUTMONEY TAKEMONEY to be briefly crowded between ABEBE and IDEAL GUIDE.

App KC Wong, the rider of PUTMONEY TAKEMONEY, reported that the saddle on his horse slipped backwards during running.

TRIPLE ONE STAR (App WW Cheah) jumped inwards causing MAREA NEGRO (S Anandan) and SILVER WIND (R Rueven) to be crowded between TRIPLE ONE STAR and ELITE GOLD (C Goon), which jumped outwards.

GOOD DEAL (M Ganeesh) stood still as the barriers opened and forfeited ground. GOOD DEAL, which showed no pace in the early stages, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again to demonstrate that he is capable of jumping on terms.

Between the 500M and the 250M, GASSUR (O Chavez) was persistently denied a run against the inside rail on the heels of NOVA WARRIOR (S Ruzaini).

Between the 400M and the 200M, OUT OF NOWHERE (A Aucharuz) was denied a run, initially on the heels of TRIPLE ONE STAR and subsequently on the heels of NOVA WARRIOR.

When questioned, Jockey O Chavez, the rider of GASSUR, stated that he was happy to track the inside run of NOVA WARRIOR from the 500M. Approaching the 300M, NOVA WARRIOR laid outwards and drifted off the rail which would have afforded him the opportunity to progress but the rider of OUT OF NOWHERE (A Aucharuz) went for the same gap causing him to be further held up in his run.

At about the 400M, RUM N RAISINS (J Low) laid inwards causing BIG LIGHTNING (App A Zaimuddin) which was attempting a run between RUM N RAISINS and SILVER WIND to be checked and shifted outside for clear running. After reviewing the incident, the Stewards were of the opinion that Jockey J Low had taken corrective measures at the earliest opportunity, and furthermore that RUM N RAISINS had shifted inwards in response to having his quarters brushed by BIG LIGHTNING. It was established that no particular rider was to be blamed for this incident and as such the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident.

Jockey S Anandan, the rider of MAREA NEGRO, reported that he dropped his reins briefly at about the 350M but in his opinion, it did not affect the performance of MAREA NEGRO.

This race was rescheduled to start at 6pm due to a thunderstorm.

GET GOING (Z Khairil) broke free from the barrier and ran loose. As the load was in progress, it was paused and some horses were removed from the barriers at the request of the riders. The load was recommenced after GET GOING had been apprehended.  The gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 6:03pm and will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

HIGH TENSILE (S Mutaza) was not able to be boxed and was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 6:09pm. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.

Jockey O Chavez, the rider of DAHEES, reported that his saddle slipped forward at the 800M due to which, he was unable to restrain DAHEES and to ride in accordance to his instructions which were to sit well back in the field. As the pace of the race was slowing at this point, he allowed DAHEES to stride forward and made his challenge earlier than instructed. GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 9 (R1534) METRO A – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY,

9 DECEMBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards showed the vision of the early stages of this race to Jockeys HK Cheng (BROWCOW) and A Aucharuz (HIP HIP HOORAY). While noting that Jockey A Aucharuz should have better anticipated the interference that occurred, the Stewards warned Jockey HK Cheng for allowing BROWCOW to shift outwards, opening a gap for Jockey A Aucharuz, before drifting inwards approaching the bend. He was warned to demonstrate greater awareness and to exert more control over his mounts in similar circumstances in future.

The Stewards warned App A Zaimuddin that he must always be seen to ride with maximum vigour in such circumstances in order to test his mounts to the full. As such, he should not look around to check his position. He was informed that  serious action may be taken against him in similar circumstances in future.

Selangor Meeting – 9 December

STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2018

SUNDAY, 9 DECEMBER 2018

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Panel of Stipendiary Stewards:

Mr Marcus J Weedon (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward), Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward), Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward) & Mr Jarry Chong (Stipendiary Steward).

RACE 1 (R1526)       CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE A)

GOLD COAST CAPTAIN (Y Aify) was slow to find its stride.

Shortly after the start, WINNING STAR (M Ganeesh) shifted inwards causing BEIJING STAR (S Ruzaini) to be taken inwards and brush with GOLD COAST CAPTAIN which was inconvenienced. GOLD COAST CAPTAIN also bumped with SUCCESSION (S Anandan) which laid outwards on jumping. Jockey M Ganeesh, the rider of WINNING STAR, was shown the vision of this incident and warned to show greater awareness to horses to his inside under similar circumstances in future.

At about the 300M, WINNING STAR laid outwards under pressure causing EASTERN TOWKAY (App L De Souza) to be taken outwards into the path of SUCCESSION which was eased to avoid contact with EASTERN TOWKAY’s heels.

At about 200M, MEWTWO (HS Gill) laid slightly inwards under pressure causing SUCCESSION to be tightened between MEWTWO and FEISTY LEO (AM Aizat) and eased to avoid the heels of FEISTY LEO.

Approaching the 100M, BEIJING STAR laid outwards under pressure causing EASTERN TOWKAY, FEISTY LEO, SUCCESSION and BEIJING STAR to be taken slightly outwards in the concluding stages.

LIM’S ACTION which was beaten 22 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

When questioned, Jockey S Anandan, the rider of SUCCESSION, reported that his instructions had been to settle SUCCESSION in midfield as close as possible and to gradually improve his position. However, SUCCESSION was outpaced in the early stages and then unlucky in the straight, having suffered multiple incidents of interference but for which, in Jockey Anandan’s opinion, SUCCESSION would have finished in second place at least. A post-race veterinary examination of SUCCESSION revealed no significant finding.

BRILLIANT STAR (A Aucharuz) was slow to begin.

GOOD BROTHER (AM Aizat) jumped inwards causing SING ENERGY (HS Gill) and BRILLIANT STAR to be taken inwards and HAPPY BUFFALO (App A Zaimuddin) to be restrained in order to avoid the heels of BRILLIANT STAR.

At about the 1100M, MACHUNG STAR laid inwards and brushed with SUPERWISE (S Mutaza) which became excitable as a result and commenced to over-race. EMPIRE BAY (Y Aify) was taken wide when brushed by SUPERWISE as it over-raced.  Jockey S Mutaza, the rider of SUPERWISE, reported that his horse raced greenly.

ANAK WARRIOR (S Anandan) over-raced and laid outwards in the early stages.

App A Zaimuddin, the rider of HAPPY BUFFALO, reported that he was forced to restrain his mount at about the 1000M to avoid running onto heels. HAPPY BUFFALO continued to over-race in the middle stages and was observed to lay outwards under pressure in the straight. Thereafter at about the 200M, HAPPY BUFFALO was eased and shifted sharply outwards to avoid the heels of MACHUNG STAR which raced greenly.

Approaching the 400M, BRILLIANT STAR was disappointed for a run on the heels of SING ENERGY and forced inwards to obtain a clear passage.

From 100M, FRENCH VINTAGE (App A Suriya) laid outwards under pressure causing the rider to put his whip down and correct at about the 50M.

GOOD BROTHER which was beaten 21 1/4 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

TIC TAC TOE (HS Gill) had to be urged to obtain midfield position. A post-race veterinary examination of TIC TAC TOE revealed no significant finding.

SIX EMPIRE (S Mutaza) which was drawn outside, was forced to race wide in an attempt to obtain midfield position.

Between the 600M and the 500M, BAADSHAH (A Aucharuz) was disappointed for a run on the heels of PACIFIC PEARL (Y Aify).

Approaching the 400M, PACIFIC PEARL was shifted outwards to obtain clear running and in doing so, caused BAADSHAH, which was following, to be shifted outwards and to be crowded between PACIFIC PEARL and TIC TAC TOE.

At about the 400M, BAADSHAH again brushed with TIC TAC TOE causing TIC TAC TOE to be pushed slightly outwards.

At about the 100M, PACIFIC PEARL laid inwards under pressure and crossed TILSWORTH JOSHI (J Low) when not fully clear, causing the rider of TILSWORTH JOSHI to ease for 2 strides. On jumping, STAR STRIKE (O Chavez) was crowded between FIRST PRECINCT (J De Souza) and MR PAULANDRE (Z Khairil).

Approaching the 500M, SACRED GALAXY (J Low) commenced to make progress and was then disappointed for a run on the heels of MR PAULANDRE which slowed and had to be abruptly checked.

At about the 400M, MR WOLFF (Y Aify) was angled inwards for a run between MR ARMSTRONG (App KC Wong) and MR SCORSESE (S Ruzaini) but at this point, MR ARMSTRONG shifted slightly inwards causing MR WOLFF to be taken towards MR SCORSESE which was briefly crowded.

When questioned, Jockey HK Cheng , the rider of WINDCHASER, reported that after the jump, he obtained a handy to midfield position as per his instructions but thereafter no opportunity presented itself to shift inside and obtain cover, and he was caught wide in the middle stages. He added that WINDCHASER responded no more than fairly in the straight.

Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of MR PAULANDRE, was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(i) for hitting his horse forward of the shoulder.

Shortly after the jump, D’GREAT TIMING (App KC Wong) was crowded between TIGER BAY (S Ruzaini) and RISING GLORY (HS Gill), and lost its early position as a result.

Between the 1800M and the 1600M, D’GREAT TIMING was shifted to the outside to make rapid progress around all his rivals and to take the lead. D’GREAT TIMING commenced to weaken and lose ground at about the 800M and compounded in the straight. When questioned, App KC Wong, the rider of D’GREAT TIMING, stated that the gelding was slow to begin but commenced to over-race when shifted to the outside to recover his position at the 1800M. Having reached the lead at about the 1500M, D’GREAT TIMING settled better in front before eventually finishing weakly. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT TIMING revealed no significant finding. The gelding which was beaten 27 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

At about 700M, SUNNY (J De Souza) laid in slightly causing SEA WORLD (App WW Cheah) to ease for 2 or 3 strides. MULBLUE SHARK (App P Mogun) was forced to race wide to make progress approaching the 600M and thereafter remained wide.

Approaching the 200M, TIGER BAY laid outwards and brushed with TARZAN (Y Aify).

App A Suriya, the rider of ORDER OF THE SUN, was fined RM500/- under MRA Rule 44(12) for making a celebratory gesture with his whip prior to the winning post.

When questioned, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of RISING GLORY, stated that his instructions were to remain to the inside and not to forfeit ground by racing wide. When RISING GLORY showed no pace immediately after the jump, he elected to switch inside to take a position in the rear of the field and to ride for luck. However, the pace slowed at halfway, causing the field to compact and no opportunity to make progress presented itself at any time in the middle stages. Jockey HS Gill further informed the Stewards that he had been denied a run on the heels of SEA WORLD between the 600M and the 400M and thereafter was forced to switch outwards to obtain clear running, and to ease his horse carefully into the gap between SUNNY and TIGER BAY approaching the 200M, by which time the winner had got away from him. He added that in his opinion, the winner was superior and he would have finished second irrespective of luck in the run.

This race was rescheduled to start at 4:20pm due to a thunderstorm.

Trainer M Sukri was fined RM100/- under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on NINETYSEVENEMPEROR (S Anandan).

SCRAT (M Ganeesh) stood still as the barrier opened and forfeited ground. When questioned, Jockey M Ganeesh reported that SCRAT moved her body in the gate but was not inclined to jump forward despite being urged. He added that in the concluding stages, SCRAT displayed a tendency to lay inwards under a right-handed whip drive, forcing him to ease and correct on 2 or 3 occasions in the concluding stages to avoid the heels of NOVA WARRIOR (S Ruzaini).

BIG BANK (App KC Wong) which was drawn outside, raced wide throughout.

Jockey R Rueven, the rider of TOP TURF, reported that his horse raced green, could not handle the going and was difficult to steer. He added that his goggles had become clogged with mud around the bend and therefore he inadvertently allowed TOP TURF to run wide approaching the 400M as his vision was impaired.

Jockey J De Souza, the rider of POWERFUL FIGHTER, reported that his horse could not handle the going. A post-race veterinary examination of POWERFUL FIGHTER revealed that it was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

TEH TARIK (M Ganeesh) was slow to begin.

BELLA VELOCE (J Mallyon) was slow to begin and then when urged, ran onto the heels of WE’RE THE WORLD (S Mutaza) and had to be checked and shifted inwards.

Approaching the 900M, NOVA RANGER (S Ruzaini) slipped, causing CHIPS (J Low) to ease to avoid its heels.

Jockey S Sandana, the rider of PALTROW, reported that his horse slipped approaching the 900M, and had to be corrected to avoid the heels of TEH TARIK.

At about the 900M, SUPERSTARDOM (O Chavez) laid inwards causing WE’RE THE WORLD to ease briefly to avoid its heels.

Approaching the 400M, TEH TARIK laid outwards and negotiated the bend with difficulty causing RACER KING (S Anandan) which was on his outside, to be taken wider.

Inside the last 200M, WHITE CHIN (R Rueven) laid inwards and brushed with FUNKADELIC (S Salee). Jockey R Rueven asked the Stewards to view the vision of this incident before the correct weight was declared in order to consider an objection against FUNKADELIC. RACE 9 (R1534)       METRO A – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)

This race was rescheduled to start at 5:35pm.

Prior to the running of this race, a delegation of Senior Jockeys voiced their concerns about the safety of the track particularly between the 1000M and the 800M. The Stipendiary Stewards reported these concerns to the Racing Stewards who declared that the situation would be reviewed after the running of this race.

GARIZA (O Chavez) jumped awkwardly outwards and immediately afterwards, commenced to buck repeatedly, and forfeited significant lengths. A post-race veterinary examination of GARIZA revealed that it was exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

At about the 1000M, BROWCOW (HK Cheng) was observed to slow the pace, causing HIP HIP HOORAY (A Aucharuz), which was following, to be checked. THE JEUNEYMAN (Y Aify) which was following HIP HIP HOORAY, was also slightly crowded in this incident. An inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

Directly after the running of this race, an inspection of the track between the 1000M and the 800M was carried out by the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward and the Senior Tracks Executive. They subsequently reported to the Racing Stewards that this area was deemed to be potentially dangerous. Having received this information, the Racing Stewards abandoned the remainder of the races due to safety grounds.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

SUNDAY, 9 DECEMBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2018

SUPER HARD, a course scratching as it had a sore back, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

RACE 5 (R1520) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SATURDAY, 8 DECEMBER 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB DECEMBER MEETING 2018

The Stewards enquired into the running and handling of AUSSIE EAGLE (AM Aizat) in the above race, and took evidence from Jockey AM Aizat and Trainer WC Lim, the rider and trainer of AUSSIE EAGLE respectively.

Trainer WC LIM explained that he gave AUSSIE EAGLE only an outsider’s chance due to the wide barrier and had instructed Jockey AM Aizat to obtain a midfield position with cover and not to race wide around the bend.

Jockey AM Aizat stated that AUSSIE EAGLE was fractious in the barrier due to the long hold and the misbehavior of other horses causing it to become nervous. He explained that the gelding jumped awkwardly outwards, at which point he had taken a tight grip on the reins to correct his mount. He then restrained AUSSIE EAGLE at about the 1100M again for fear that he would run onto the heels of ROGER (Z Khairil).

Thereafter he attempted to obtain cover on AUSSIE EAGLE but found it difficult due to GOOD PEOPLE (J Low) wandering in front of him. Finally, when asked for his effort, the gelding responded just fairly

The Stewards warned Jockey AM Aizat that in future he must ride in a manner that leaves no room for query, that he must always do his best to assure a good jump from all his mounts, and should always demonstrate a genuine intent to comply with his riding instructions.

GENERAL REPORT – PRTC
