App PH Seow (PACIFIC VICTORY) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding her riding instructions in this race particularly with regards to this horse leading. In this regard, she explained that she had not anticipated that she would lead in this race, however, upon jumping, she had observed that her mount had the chance to go forward easily and accordingly, she decided to cease this opportunity.

Trainer J Ong appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding instructions on PACIFIC VICTORY in this race. In this regard, he stated that he had not anticipated any position for this horse in the running and had merely advised App PH Seow to jump and place the horse wherever it was comfortable. When questioned regarding what in his mind would be the various scenarios of these instructions from best to worst, Trainer J Ong could offer the Panel no explanation. Nevertheless, after considering the circumstances of the race, the Panel accepted App PH Seow’s explanation, however, drew Trainer J Ong’s attention to past infractions regarding unclear instructions and cautioned him regarding the issuance of instructions in races.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App M Ekdihar, the rider of TRUE LOVE, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, SY Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to POPEYETHESAILORMAN and MALAKAI at approximately the 250M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App M Ekdihar’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. In the concluding stages, LUCKY WARRIOR had to ease and JO’S LEGEND had to ease when awkwardly placed on the inside of RELEASE THE SPIRIT which was hanging in in the straight and shifted in away from the whip.

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by App Clyde Leck (JO’S LEGEND), the rider of the fourth placed horse against the third placed horse, RELEASE THE SPIRIT (App S Shazmin) on the grounds of interference and intimidation at about the concluding stages.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board was satisfied that for the above incident, JO’S LEGEND would have finished ahead of RELEASE THE SPIRIT, therefore it upheld the objection and amended the Judge’s result to read:

1st – STORM PEGASUS (AK Lim)

2nd – JOYEE GO (AL Da Silva)

3rd – JO’S LEGEND (App Clyde Leck)

4th – RELEASE THE SPIRIT (App S Shazmin)

App S Shazmin and Jockey AK Lim were both examined by the Club Doctor who stood them down from their riding engagement(s) for the remainder of the races today.

He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Malaysian race day with effect from 23 December 2024 and to expire on 28 December 2024, both dates inclusive. CHIEF OF ARMY

(KC Tham)

Slow into stride. Shifted out in the concluding stages.

Leaving the 800M, THUNDERSTORM had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the inside of NIMBUS COURAGE and PACIFIC DELIGHT.

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by the Mr. L Moy, the Trainer of the second placed horse THUNDERSTORM against the winner PACIFIC DELIGHT, on the grounds of interference at approximately the 800M.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, THUNDERSTORM would have finished ahead of PACIFIC DELIGHT, therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge’s result to stand.

The Stewards, today, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of DIAZ. Evidence was taken from Jockey Z Khairil and Trainer NM Selvan, the rider and trainer of DIAZ respectively.

After reviewing the films of the incident and considering the evidence tendered, Jockey Z Khairil was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that despite his mount obtaining an advantage in the field from about the 900M to the 750M, he unreasonably restrained his mount despite having the opportunity to hold in his position on the rail, which restraint ultimately resulting in DIAZ becoming awkwardly placed, stumbling, having to ease and lose a significant distance in the running.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Z Khairil’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 9 December 2024 and to expire on 8 March 2025, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM10,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards, on Tuesday, 12 November 2024 at SLTC, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of BINTANG SIXTY-ONE. Evidence was taken from Jockey SU Lim and Trainer C Leck, the rider and trainer of BINTANG SIXTY-ONE respectively.

The Stewards reviewed the films of the incident and considered the evidence tendered. Jockey SU Lim was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that on 26 October 2024 in Race 5 run at the Selangor Turf Club, he failed to ride BINTANG SIXTY-ONE to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that his riding in this race was lacking in vigour and determination and passive, with the manner of his riding amounting to not only an unjustified variation of his normal standard of riding but was of a standard which was below expectation of a rider in such a position.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of 2 months with immediate effect from 18 November 2024 and to expire on 17 January 2025, both dates inclusive, to be served consecutively with any other penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Jockey SU Lim subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Panel of Stewards considered the application for a stay which was granted. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

ALWAYS INNOCENT

(App A Nazir)

Vet inspection: Lame off fore – 1000M/Vet (2 weeks embargo)

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of the second placed horse, SURFING CLOUD, against the winner, RED DRAGONFLY (CK Khaw) on the grounds of interference and intimidation at approximately the 200M mark.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered the distance between the runners at the finish (3.25 lengths) and that at the point of the interference, RED DRAGONFLY which had run on from behind SURFING CLOUD, had already raced passed SURFING CLOUD by an extending 0.5 length.

Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, SURFING CLOUD would have finished ahead of RED DRAGONFLY, therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge’s result to stand. Jockey R Shafiq was fined RM2000/- under MRA Rule 122(3) for lodging an objection being deemed by the Stewards to be frivolous.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey CK Khaw, the rider of RED DRAGONFLY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding RED DRAGONFLY, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to SURFING CLOUD at approximately the 200M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey CK Khaw’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Malaysian race day, to be deferred, with effect from 18 November 2024 and to expire on 24 November 2024, both dates inclusive. He was fined RM1,500/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App K Pavinthran, the rider of PERFECT BRANDZ, in the presence of B Trainer Logan Lek, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(6) for failing to ride to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that he failed to ride PERFECT BRANDZ to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards, thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining second placing.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App K Pavinthran’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months, to be deferred, with effect from 18 November 2024 and to expire on 17 January 2025, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
