In the early stages, MIGHTY PHOENIX (R Rueven) raced fiercely.

HAPPY START (R Shafiq) raced wide in the early stages. When questioned regarding this, Jockey R Shafiq stated that he believed that there were horses on his inside and was fearful that the pace may slacken if he attempted to take a position within the field. BRINGER OF WAR (App CK Khaw) shifted inwards at the start at the same time as HIGH COUNCIL (App A Suriya) shifted outwards resulting in D’GREAT BOSS (R Shafiq), THANK YOU BOSS (App S Uzair) and TURF PRINCESS (AK Lim) being tightened.

Approaching the 700M, SATTAR eased off the heels of CHINO DINERO (App M Lukman) which in turn caused AUSONE (KC Wong) which was racing between SATTAR and LIMITLESS STOUT, to be eased.

BRINGER OF WAR lay outwards from the 275M and carried TURF PRINCESS outwards with LIMITLESS STOUT (J Daniel) having to be restrained from that mare’s heels at about the 125M. On inquiry, App CK Khaw (BRINGER OF WAR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii).

App K Pavinthran advised that he had been instructed to ride the gelding in a mid-to-forward position and then from its wide barrier, he pushed GLAMOROUS from the start, however, the gelding had commenced to race strongly and he found himself leading by a considerable margin. He continued to attempt to restrain GLAMOROUS but the gelding persisted in racing fiercely.                                     WA TAB WELCOMES SELANGOR RACES

An objection was lodged by Jockey R Rueven, the rider of BEIJING STAR, placed second, against SUPER BB (AK Lim) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 125M. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards overruled the objection and the result stood.

RAINBOW FISH (App CK Khaw) raced wide in the middle stages.

SUPER BB drifted out when Jockey AK Lim continued to use his whip over the 200M, carrying BEIJING STAR outwards over the final strides. On inquiry, Jockey AK Lim pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he continued to ride SUPER BB aggressively with the whip and failed to straighten that gelding when it shifted over the concluding 150M.

In assessing a penalty, the Stewards considered this incident at the lower level of carelessness as it did not include any significant interference to any other runner, and imposed a suspension of one (1) day with effect from 19 October 2020 and to expire on 24 October 2020, both dates inclusive. RACE 6 (R786) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2020, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2020

The Stewards, on 6 October 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into Jockey J Daniel’s riding of UPTOWN GIRL in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey J Daniel and Trainer MW Teh, the rider and trainer of UPTOWN GIRL respectively.

Jockey J Daniel stated that he had been instructed to ride the mare in a mid-to-back position and as it was having its first race start to attempt to find an uninterrupted passage. He had to ease behind PROVE IT (J Low) near the 800M, and when UPTOWN GIRL had commenced to make ground in the straight, he had been impeded when PEARL DANCER (App N Varmah) shifted outwards in front of him and he had elected to take UPTOWN GIRL to the outside of CAUSE TO FLY (R Rueven). He was of the opinion that UPTOWN GIRL resented to the use of the whip as it was inclined to swish its tail.

Trainer MW Teh confirmed the instructions and was of the opinion that UPTOWN GIRL’s lack in exposure after having trialled unimpressively. Further, he stated that on returning to stables, UPTOWN GIRL was ascertained to have a mild bow to its fore tendon which had been confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon.

In accepting this evidence, the Stewards advised Trainer MW Teh that he was obliged to report any matter which may have affected the performance of his horses under the provisions of MRA Rule 35(7), also that UPTOWN GIRL will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

No prohibited substances were detected.

RACE 5 (R785) CLASS 3 – 1300M (LONG COURSE), TAB STAKES, SATURDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2020, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2020

The Stewards, on 9 October 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into Jockey SU Lim’s riding of LIM’S PERSHING.  Evidence was taken from Jockey SU Lim and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and trainer of LIM’S PERSHING respectively.

After considering the evidence, Jockey SU Lim was charged under MRA Rule 44 (10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He failed to ride LIM’S PERSHING with any vigour after straightening (long course) until the 375M.

  2. At approximately the 275M, he stopped riding and stood up on the gelding for approximately six (6) or seven (7) strides.

Jockey SU Lim pleaded not guilty to the charge and asked that the matter be adjourned to allow for him to call further veterinary evidence. The inquiry was adjourned to a later date.

RACE 9 (R789) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2020, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2020

The Stewards, on 9 October 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into Jockey J Low’s riding of WASHINGTON and the manner in which he had ridden the gelding out in the straight.  Evidence was taken from Jockey J Low and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and trainer of WASHINGTON respectively.

Trainer S Dunderdale advised the Stewards that WASHINGTON always travelled very strongly, however when pushed, tended not to respond and improved only in a moderate fashion. He had thus instructed Jockey J Low to ride WASHINGTON in a forward position and to ensure that he saved the gelding for a late run.

Jockey J Low agreed with the instructions and advised that WASHINGTON travelled very strongly after straightening and he had ridden quietly, holding the gelding together in hope of achieving the desired result. He had then ridden out to the post to his ability but WASHINGTON had raced only moderately compared to how it was travelling on straightening.

In accepting this evidence, the Stewards advised Trainer S Dunderdale that he should inform the Stewards of any aspect of his horses racing which may have an effect on their performances, and opportunity given that he also trained the horse which led in the race, D’ GREAT STRIKE (App L De Souza).

Jockey J Low was reminded of his obligations to ride in a positive and competitive manner at all times.

RACE 8 (R788) CLASS 4 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY STAKES, SATURDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2020, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2020

The Stewards, on 9 October 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into the reason for ICHIKA BACHIKA losing considerable ground at the start.  Evidence was taken from Jockey J Low and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and trainer of ICHIKA BACHIKA respectively.

After considering the evidence, Jockey J Low was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that ICHIKA BACHIKA was not given a chance to jump properly from the start. The Stewards were not persuaded that SOUTHERN DRAGON (S Ruzaini) from Stall 2 had crossed ICHIKA BACHIKA so as to impede the gelding in any way.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that Jockey J Low had previously been suspended twice under MRA Rule 44(10) but considered this incident at the lower range of culpability. Jockey J Low was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) weeks with effect from 12 October 2020 and to expire on 22 November 2020, both dates inclusive.

FRIDAY, 9 OCTOBER 2020, SLTC

Syce Md Kajol (S.522), an employee of Trainer S Dunderdale, was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to wear a face mask whilst performing his duties associated with his stables.

RACE 5 (R785) CLASS 3 – 1300M (LONG COURSE), TAB STAKES, SATURDAY, 3 OCTOBER 2020, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2020

The Stewards, on 16 October 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into Jockey SU Lim’s ride on LIM’S PERSHING, and further evidence was taken from Jockey SU Lim. Evidence was also taken from four (4) members of the SLTC Veterinary Department and further evidence was taken from LIM’S PERSHING’s Trainer, S Dunderdale.

After considering all the evidence, Jockey SU Lim was found guilty under MRA Rule 44 (10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being:

  1. He failed to ride LIM’S PERSHING with any vigour after straightening (long course) until the 375M.

  2. At approximately the 275M, he stopped riding and stood up on the gelding for approximately six (6) or seven (7) strides.

Jockey SU Lim was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months with effect from 19 October 2020 and to expire on 18 December 2020, both dates inclusive.

On inquiry, Jockey AK Lim (TRINITY ROYAL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that shortly after the start, he shifted in, bumping ZILFIKAR which in turn crowded BANGALORE (App A Suriya) which steadied and shifted in causing FIRST SUCCESS (J Shankar) to check.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey AK Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days with effect from 21 September 2020 and to expire on 3 October 2020, both dates inclusive, to be served concurrently with any other penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 7 (R666)         OPEN MAIDEN – 1400M (LONG COURSE)

A Stewards’ objection was lodged under the provisions of MRA Rule 124(3) to consider interference to dead-heater for 3rd placing, GLOBAL ARMY (S Ruzaini) against the equal dead-heater, UNSHADOWED GENERAL (App A Suriya) related to interference at about the 150M. The Racing Stewards upheld the objection and amended the placing to:

1st – OSCAR ECLIPSE (KC Wong)

2nd – ISFAHAN (Y Aify)

3rd – GLOBAL ARMY (S Ruzaini)

4th – UNSHADOWED GENERAL (App A Suriya)

SENA SIXTYNINE (HS Gill) and STAY SOUND (App K Pavinthran) were slow to begin.

Passing the 150M, UNSHADOWED GENERAL bore out quickly and shunted GLOBAL ARMY outwards. ISFAHAN which was following, was inconvenienced. Shortly after this, GLOBAL ARMY tended to lay inwards and after passing the winning post, brushed UNSHADOWED GENERAL. On inquiry, App A Suriya, the rider of UNSHADOWED GENERAL, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, C Leck, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted out, bumping heavily with GLOBAL ARMY near the 150M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Suriya’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 7 September 2020 and to expire on 13 September 2020, both dates inclusive. GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

INQUIRY INTO REPORTS RELATING TO PRE AND POST-RACE BLOOD SAMPLES CODED “215393” AND “29605” RESPECTIVELY, WHICH WERE TAKEN FROM THE HORSE “LIM’S SWIFT” WHICH WAS WITHDRAWN FROM RACE 10 (R491) ON SUNDAY, 2 AUGUST 2020 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST SPECIAL MEETING 2020, AND THE SAMPLE WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN “CAFFEINE”.

The Stewards, on 3 September 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club, inquired into the analyst’s reports that pre-race and post-race samples taken from LIM’S SWIFT (H148) when presented to race in the above race contained “caffeine”.

Evidence was taken from the trainer of LIM’S SWIFT, Trainer BT Lim, SLTC Chief Veterinary Surgeon, Dr Shri Kanth and Usains Biomics Chief Analyst, Dr Chan Sue Hay. Analytical reports were also considered related to random feedstuff aliquots taken from Trainer BT Lim’s stables which were found to contain caffeine and its metabolite theobromine.

Trainer BT Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA 134(6) with having accepted LIM’S SWIFT to race in Race 10 on Sunday, 2 August 2020 at the Selangor Turf Club August Special Meeting 2020, the pre and impound samples having had detected in them “caffeine”.

In assessing a penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that they were satisfied the detection was a result of contamination and that LIM’S SWIFT had been withdrawn before racing. Taking into consideration Trainer BT Lim’s plea of guilty and prior record, the Stewards imposed a fine of RM4000/-. Trainer BT Lim was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:20pm).

After taking evidence from Trainer MW Teh and Track Rider Fandi Bin Ahmad, the Stewards were satisfied that a mistake had been made by Track Rider Fandi when entering the main grass on LISTEN, whilst only walking.

Trainer MW Teh was advised that he should, at all times, supervise and give proper directions to all his staff.

TUESDAY, 18 AUGUST 2020, SLTC TRACKWORK
