RACE 1 (R788)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

On jumping, ASIAN JET (J Daniel) veered inwards and bumped MOOGATE GOLD (App WW Cheah) heavily which was tightened by SPARKLE LOT (MM Firdaus) which shifted out. Jockey J Daniel was warned the he must afford runners on his inside sufficient room.

From its wide barrier, TRINITY FLYING (HS Gill) raced wide in the early stages.

The saddle on MOONGATE GOLD slipped backwards mid-race.

Trainer HY Cheng was questioned as to the reason that SHOW ROYALE (App AB Riduan) had led as opposed to its previous start. He stated that the gelding was stepping up to 1300M from the 1100M when he had instructed that the horse to be ridden where it was comfortable on the pace. However, SHOW ROYALE had jumped only moderately and able only to race in midfield. He instructed the same today and App AB Riduan was able to easily lead from its inside barrier. Trainer HY Cheng was advised that he is expected to ensure that SHOW ROYALE would be ridden in consistent fashion in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of NEWTON (S Zulfikri) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SATELLITE GENIUS (Y Aify) revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of ASIAN JET revealed no significant finding.

TRINITY FLYING returned having cast its off hind plate.

COMMODORE LINCOLN (Y Aify) was slow into stride.

NORTHERN KNIGHT (SU Lim) shifted out sharply and tightened TWENTYSIXTWELVE (J Daniel) which caused FIVE HUNDRED (C Goon) to check. FIVE HUNDRED was then ridden in a rearward position.

At a conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of NORTHERN KNIGHT,  pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted out at this stage. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Selangor Turf Club race days with effect from 18 October 2021 and to expire on 30 October 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Running to the turn near the 1000M, UNLIMITED STAR (App WW Cheah) shied outwards quickly, inconveniencing ATTENTION (HS Gill) which then carried LUCK MAK MAK (L De Souza) wide. UNLIMITED STAR then raced erratically in the straight. Trainer R Lines was advised to take remedial action with the gelding.

NORTHERN KNIGHT was inclined to lay inwards in the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of LUCK MAK MAK revealed no significant finding.

RACE 3 (R790)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

PEARL DANCER (C Goon) raced wide in the middle stages.

Trainer C Leck was questioned as to the reason STAY SOUND (placed third) had led by a considerable margin as opposed to its rearward performance on 2 October 2021. He stated that he was mystified as to how STAY SOUND had led so easily as he believed the gelding would have displayed a considerable different attitude than its previous starts in order to be able to race prominently. He could only offer a suggestion that STAY SOUND was fresh, given that he had confined the gelding work with swimming since its previous start. Whilst accepting that STAY SOUND had not been ridden vigourously from the start nor mid-race, the Stewards advised Trainer C Leck that it was expected that STAY SOUND to be ridden in a similar fashion, leading or handy, in its future starts.

UNION JAC (App R Nuqman) was slow into stride.

D’GREAT STRIKE (KC Wong) was inclined to lay inwards in the straight.

App AB Riduan (LET’S COME ON BABY) reported that from a wide barrier, LET’S COME ON BABY did not relish the shifting nature of the track.

The saddle on ULURU (L De Souza) slipped backwards on straightening.

A post-race veterinary examination of UNION JAC revealed that it returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

MAGNUM FORCE (App WW Cheah) shifted inwards near the 300M at the same time as ICHIKA BACHIKA (App S Uzair) shifted out with those geldings bumping. ICHIKA BACHIKA then drifted out under whip riding. App WW Cheah and App S Uzair were both warned that they must stop using their whips when they shift ground.

LEGENDARY ERA (J De Souza) drifted out over the concluding 75M.

Post-race veterinary examinations of FIRST PRECINCT (J Shankar) and ASIAN TIGER revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of KING’S ORDER (SU Lim) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Near the 950M, UPSTART (App K Pavinthran) which was trailing the field, shifted in quickly and veered away from the running rail, becoming unbalanced. App K Pavinthran lost his off side stirrup iron and also became unbalanced, trailing the field by a considerable margin. In light of the gelding’s actions, Trainer C Leck was advised that UPSTART will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Near the 1000M, MAGIC SEVENTY TWO (App R Nuqman) which was racing wide, veered outwards away from the heels of ATLANTIC ARROW (S Ruzaini) and continued to race wide until into the straight.

At the 850M, BANG BANG (App A Suriya) steadied when crossed by LUCKY TIGER (App AB Riduan) and shifted in. This caused PROPLAYER (SU Lim) to be restrained. On inquiry, App AB Riduan was reprimanded for failing to afford sufficient room when crossing.

App A Suriya (BANG BANG) was fined the sum of RM500/- under MRA Rule 44(12) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

App K Pavinthran was examined by the Club Doctor who subsequently stood him down from his riding engagement for his remainder ride.

At the 1000M, ELITE WATERGHOST (App R Nuqman) and BLOOD ROYAL (CK Khaw) bumped with BLOOD ROYAL becoming unbalanced.

TOP S (HS Gill) raced wide throughout. Jockey HS Gill advised that he had been trapped wide from his wide barrier draw and near the 400M, TOP S had dipped. He had then eased the gelding as it was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of TOP S revealed no significant finding.

At the 650M, PERFECT BRANDZ steadied off the heels of LIM’S PERSHING.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 6 (R761) CLASS 3 – 1300M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

Jockey M Ganeesh (CHINESE TEA) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Panel of Stewards considered the application for a stay which was not granted. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the disqualification of eighteen (18) months and fine of RM50,000/- will be held at a date to be fixed.

FRIDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2021, SLTC TRACKWORK

Trainer HY Cheng was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for presenting GOLDEN CRAFTSMAN with an incorrect training saddle cloth number for the above trackwork.

RACE 9 (R764) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

The Stewards, on 15 October 2021 (Friday), inquired into Jockey S Zulfikri’s riding of AUSSIE EAGLE in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey S Zulfikri and Trainer S Siva, the rider and trainer of AUSSIE EAGLE respectively.

After considering the evidence and also reviewing the performance of AUSSIE EAGLE when winning on 26 September 2021, the Stewards found Jockey S Zulfikri guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that:

  1. He had unduly restrained AUSSIE EAGLE at the start although instructed to be in a handy-to-mid position;
  2. He remained behind SUPER BB (AK Lim) from the 450M until into the straight although presented with opportunities to improve his positon;
  3. His whip action and its veracity in the straight were inconsistent in affording AUSSIE EAGLE the best chance to improve.

The Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Zulfikri’s recent riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months, to be deferred, with effect from 18 October 2021 and to expire on 17 January 2022, both dates inclusive. He was also fined the sum of RM20,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 10 (R765) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

At the conclusion of an inquiry today (17 October 2021), Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of D’GREAT SONG, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in near the 800M causing KUBERA’S CHIEF (App R Nuqman) to check.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Selangor Turf Club race days with effect from 18 October 2021 and to expire on 30 October 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 9 (R764) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

The Stewards, on 17 October 2021, concluded an inquiry into Jockey S Ruzaini’s ride on LIM’S TORPEDO. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that he had been instructed to ride in rear position consistent with its previous start although the gelding was drawn on the inside.

On jumping, he had been bumped by MERCURIAL TURN (J De Souza). He had then been behind that gelding and was unable to improve until straightening. When attempting a run on straightening, he had been marginally blocked when BAOYE CHAMPION (App AB Riduan) had drifted in and although he had placed LIM’S TORPEDO thereafter under significant pressure with the whip, the gelding had failed to past a horse in the straight. His explanations were noted.

RACE 3 (R758)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M (LONG COURSE)

CONDADO (L De Souza) shifted in at the start, crowding FIVE HUNDRED (KC Tham) onto O’REILLY BAY (Y Aify).

FOREVER AND EVER (AK Lim) was ridden across quickly from its outside barrier and caused D’GREAT ACHIEVER (App S Sia) to shift in, which in turn caused FIVE HUNDRED (KC Tham) to bump with ALL WHITE (App Clyde Leck). At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey AK Lim, the rider of FOREVER AND EVER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii). In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey AK Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 11 October 2021 and to expire on 17 October 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

ALL WHITE became unbalanced near the 1100M.

In the early stages, CONDADO which was racing fiercely, was taken wide and then laid in considerably in the straight.

UPTOWN GIRL (J Shankar) which was making ground in the straight, had to be steadied at the 75M when laying in slightly.

A post-race veterinary examination of FOREVER AND EVER revealed that the mare bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that UPTOWN GIRL returned with a cut on the right commissure of the mouth. The mare will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Acting on veterinary advice that COME AND TAKE ALL (R Rueven) was lame off fore, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 2pm. COME AND TAKE ALL will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

STAR INVINCIBLE (App AB Riduan) which had cast its off fore plate at the start, was replated, checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

GOOD NEWS (KC Wong) veered outwards at the start, bumping CHER (S Ruzaini).

CHER was blocked for a clear run behind GOOD NEWS over the concluding 200M and had to be restrained. GOOD NEWS then shifted out at the same time as EL TORDILLO (SU Lim) shifting in onto ELITE REMARKABLE (HS Gill) which had to be checked at about the 75M.

Jockey HS Gill (ELITE REMARKABLE) dropped his whip at about the 400M. He was warned that a repetition of dropping the whip in future may lead to a penalty being imposed.

Jockey KC Wong (GOOD NEWS) and Jockey L De Souza (TRIPLE ONE STAR) were questioned as to why they had allowed the three early leaders to advance in front of their mounts between the 1200M and the 900M. Jockey KC Wong stated that he had pushed GOOD NEWS from the start but the gelding had showed no early pace and further it was burdened by top weight of 59kgs. Jockey L De Souza stated that he believed that the leaders had gone too quickly and he was content to make progress alongside GOOD NEWS. Whilst accepting these explanations, the Stewards reminded Jockeys KC Wong and L De Souza that they were expected to ride positively at all stages throughout the race so as to maximize their mounts’ chances.

EL TORDILLO returned having cast its off fore plate.

VETRI (App AB Riduan) was slow into stride.

IT’S GOT IT ALL (Y Aify) commenced to lay outwards from the 600M taking the turn into the straight wide and drifted out, finishing on the outside fence. In light of this, Trainer KC Tiang was advised that IT’S GOT IT ALL will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

KONG FU PANDA (MM Firdaus) was inclined to lay inwards in the straight and when struck with the whip, shifted in and laid in on top of MISE EN GARDE (S Ruzaini) which bumped heavily with the tiring ITOLDYOUSO (J Shankar). Jockey MM Firdaus was reprimanded for using his whip when his horse had an inclination to lay inwards. Trainer KC Tiang was advised to take remedial measures to straighten KONG FU PANDA.

When questioned regarding the reason as to why VETRI was so far back, Trainer HY Cheng stated that he had instructed for the gelding to be ridden midfield with cover. App AB Riduan explained that he was tightened considerably on jumping when SAHABA (KC Wong) shifted in and he found himself in a rearward position and was unable to improve until straightening.

After jumping slowly, WILDFIRE (HK Cheng) was crowded between FLYING SHADOW (SU Lim) and MAJOR GREEN (R Rueven) and had to be restrained.  WILDFIRE then threw its head significantly and was taken wide. Jockey HK Cheng, when questioned, confirmed that he wished to be racing in a prominent position close to the pace but after being crowded, WILDFIRE reacted violently with its head and he had been forced to take the gelding wider on the track.

Following the running of this race, Jockey HK Cheng was examined by the Club Doctor who subsequently stood him down from his riding engagement for the remainder of the race today. NAUGHTY KID raced wide in the middle stages.

At the 1000M, D’GREAT JOURNEY (AK Lim) misstrode and became unbalanced.

The Stewards inquired into the running and handling of MR G (Jockey A Zaimuddin). Evidence was taken from Jockey A Zaimuddin and Trainer S Dunderdale, the rider and trainer of MR G respectively. At the conclusion of the inquiry, Jockey A Zaimuddin, the rider of MR G, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. He travelled wide between the 900M and the 600M when there was no need to do so; and
  2. He showed a lack of vigour in his riding in the straight.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey A Zaimuddin’s plea of guilty, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months, to be deferred, with effect from 11 October 2021 and to expire on 10 December 2021, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 8 (R733)         SUPREME A – 1100M (SHORT COURSE)

In the early stages, XENA (J Low) raced fiercely.

Jockey S Ruzaini (VOLCANIC GENERAL) was fined the sum of RM500/- under MRA Rule 44(12) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

A post-race veterinary examination of SHOWBOY (Y Aify) revealed that it returned with laryngeal hemiplegia (grade 3) and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

The Stewards inquired into the manner in which App AB Riduan rode CONSTANT JUSTICE. Trainer HY Cheng stated that he had instructed CONSTANT JUSTICE be ridden forward but not lead, however, App AB Riduan was unable to restrain CONSTANT JUSTICE. The Stewards questioned App AB Riduan as to why he had looked on his inside on 3 occasions at the 800M, 600M and the 475M when travelling on the outside of the leader, VOLCANIC GENERAL (S Ruzaini). He stated that he was concerned as he heard some “calling” from behind and that he did not want to interfere with any other runner. When questioned as to the reason he had shifted out on straightening, he stated that he had been instructed to take CONSTANT JUSTICE to the middle of the track in the straight as it resented any horses around it and any kickback. Trainer HY Cheng confirmed these instructions and reasoning.

The Stewards heard evidence from Jockey S Ruzaini (VOLCANIC GENERAL) and Jockey J Low (XENA). Jockey J Low advised that it was him that called at the 475M but only to encourage XENA. He agreed that it was fortuitous that CONSTANT JUSTICE had shifted out at this stage, as it had afforded XENA an uninterrupted passage.

In considering this matter in totality, the Stewards warned App AB Riduan that he must ride each race individually and with a view in maximizing his horse’s chances, further he ought not to be concerned in other runners’ preferred passage. Further, Trainer HY Cheng was advised that when he had multiple runners, he must instruct that each horse is ridden independently so as to maximize its chances.

HIGH COUNCIL (App N Varmah) raced wide in the middle stages.

LIM’S PERSHING (App AB Riduan) raced wide throughout, taking the turn into the straight wide.

BURKAAN was blocked for a run near the 250M and had to be steadied when GOD HELPS ME (S Ruzaini) drifted out passing the 150M. Jockey S Ruzaini was advised that he must keep his mounts straight.

When questioned, Jockey J De Souza (SORBETA) advised that when crossed at the start by HANDSOME BENZ (HS Gill), he had eased SORBETA but the gelding had thrown its head and was reluctant to stride out resulting in him being at the tail of the field. He also advised that in his opinion, the 1100M was too short for SORBETA. Jockey HS Gill (HANDSOME BENZ) was warned that he must afford horses on his inside sufficient room at the start.

A post-race veterinary examination of LINCOLN MOONLIGHT (J Low) revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Passing the 100M, TRINITY ROYAL (SU Lim) became uncoordinated and after passing the winning post, collapsed. Jockey SU Lim who was dislodged from the gelding, was examined by the Club Doctor who stood him down from his riding engagements for the remainder of the races today. A post-race veterinary examination of TRINITY ROYAL revealed that the gelding bled. The gelding will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3), and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test and 1000M/vet (from the Starting Stall) test before being declared to race again.

RACE 5 (R721)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

WATERMELON (MM Firdaus) raced wide throughout.

The Stewards inquired into App A Suriya’s riding of STAY SOUND. Trainer C Leck advised that STAY SOUND was a 6-year-old, 11 start Maiden and he had instructed that it would be ridden patiently as the gelding had a poor action, and was adversely affected when STAY SOUND was ridden vigourously in the early stages. Further, he had instructed App A Suriya to gradually make ground in the straight as he had not wished STAY SOUND to become unbalanced.

App A Suriya concurred with these instructions and advised that running to the first turn, he had been in a rearward position and surrounded by runners, he had allowed STAY SOUND to become balanced in the straight and had ridden it vigourously when it had run on only moderately.

Trainer C Leck tendered evidence of significant stable support. The Stewards accepted the explanations, however, advised Trainer C Leck that he must inform the Stewards if there was an intention to change the manner in which STAY SOUND was ridden in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of TRINITY LAD (A Zaimuddin) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

PEARL DANCER (S Ruzaini) raced wide on straightening.

RED SYMPHONY (CK Khaw) was ridden wide in the middle stages and was impeded near the 200M when GASSUR (Y Aify) shifted out. The Stewards inquired into Jockey CK Khaw’s ride on RED SYMPHONY. He stated that it was his first ride on the gelding and that he had been instructed to ride midfield, however, had been unable to secure a position close to the fence as MERCURIAL TURN (J De Souza) had kicked up on his inside and he was trapped wide until straightening. He had then tried to secure a passage in the straight before riding RED SYMPHONY vigourously. The Stewards warned Jockey CK Khaw that he must ensure that he rides all his horses in a manner which is positive and to ensure they are be fully tested.

Acting on veterinary advice that MAIDANZ BEAUTY (App Clyde Leck) had sustained multiple lacerations to the near hind at the pre-race holding yard, the mare was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 12:25pm. MAINDANZ BEAUTY will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Running to the 1000M, GLENAFTON (J Low) had to be steadied off the heels of FOREVER AND EVER (AK Lim) when that horse eased when crossed by ATTENTION (S Ruzaini).

In the run to the 1000M, SAND BANK (J De Souza) threw its head when being steadied.

Near the 300M, COMMODORE LINCOLN (Y Aify) shifted out with GLENAFTON shifting outwards from it and inconvenienced THE ICEMAN (App A Suriya).

The Stewards inquired into Jockey J Low’s riding of GLENAFTON. At the conclusion of the inquiry, Jockey J Low, the rider of GLENAFTON, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that after taking a good jump, he failed to put any pressure onto GLENAFTON in an endeavour to have it race in a midfield position.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, to be deferred, with effect from 4 October 2021 and to expire on 3 November 2021, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of his suspension. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Near the 250M, the tiring SMART RACER (App Clyde Leck) rolled in causing UNION JAC (App R Nuqman) to be restrained.

The Stewards inquired into the riding of App Clyde Leck (SMART RACER) and App R Nuqman (UNION JAC) as to the reason that they had both led by a considerable margin in the early part of the race.

After taking evidence from App Clyde Leck, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, C Leck who is also the Trainer of SMART RACER, and App R Nuqman, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, BT Lim, and also Trainer SY Lim, the trainer of UNION JAC, the Stewards were satisfied that App Clyde Leck, although had been instructed to lead, was unable to restrain SMART RACER and take a sit. Further that whilst App R Nuqman had been instructed to ride UNION JAC in a midfield position, the gelding had raced too fiercely and he was reluctant to restrain it, as it had a light mouth and he feared that UNION JAC would throw its head. As such, the Stewards warned both App Clyde Leck and App R Nuqman that they must endeavour to make a greater effort to restrain their mounts and ride more diligently in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of UNION JAC revealed no significant finding.

Due to the present Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 restrictions and under the powers of MRA Rule 146(1) & 149(1)(c)&(d), the SLTC Racing Stewards made the following orders:

  1. That the Appeal of Jockey C Goon (ATTENTION) be deferred until it is able to be conducted in person at SLTC.
  2. That the current Stay of Sentence issued on 7 April 2021 be rescinded.

Trainer HY Cheng stated that he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance, however, advised that BEIJING STAR had not eaten up well since its last work on Tuesday. He had no concern regarding the horse’s suitability for today’s race but believed that the horse may benefit from an ease in his work load. INQUIRY INTO A REPORT CONCERNING URINE SAMPLE CODED “J-4211” WHICH WAS TAKEN ON 18 APRIL 2021 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB, WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN MITRAGYNINE

The Stewards conducted an inquiry on Thursday, 20 May 2021 by Zoom connection, into the Analyst’s Report that Sample Coded “J-4211” which was taken on 18 April 2021 at the Selangor Turf Club, was found to contain mitragynine. Evidence was taken from Apprentice Jockey AB Riduan, from whom the sample was taken and his Employing Trainer, HY Cheng.

Apprentice AB Riduan was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) with having supplied a sample at the Selangor Turf Club on 18 April 2021 which upon analysis, was found to contain the prohibited, mitragynine.

In considering a penalty, the Stewards took into account; Apprentice AB Riduan’s personal circumstances, the penalties imposed on two riders recently at SLTC for similar offences and that Apprentice AB Riduan had been stood down from races, trials and trackwork since 24 April 2021, as such Apprentice A B Riduan was suspended from riding in races from 20 May 2021 until midnight 23 June 2021.

WITHDRAWAL OF APPEAL BY JOCKEY WONG KAM CHONG (KC WONG) AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF ONE (1) MONTH FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “BERLINETTA” IN RACE 3 (R323), CLASS 5 (A) – 1500M (LONG COURSE) ON SUNDAY, 18 APRIL 2021 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2021

The Stewards concluded their inquiries into the reasons for: STRAP MARKS in Race 8 and DESIRE SKY in Race 9 being late withdrawals on Sunday, 25 April 2021.

Trainer R Lines advised that his stable staff numbers and composition had been severely curtailed and changed due to a considerable number of personnel being isolated because of Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He had taken it upon himself not to attend the races.

With his non-attendance and reduced staff, this had resulted in a lack of personnel who would normally check all race day preparation details. He further advised of several personal issues that had compounded the problem of both horses not being presented to race.

In considering the elements of the case, the Stewards were satisfied that the unique circumstances due to Covid-19 SOP lockdown, had brought about the error and took no further action.

WITHDRAWAL OF APPEAL BY JOCKEY CALVIN GOON (C GOON) AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF SIX (6) WEEKS FOR CONTRAVENTION OF MRA RULE 44(10) IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING OF RACEHORSE “SPIN FIRE” IN RACE 11 (R183) ON SUNDAY, 14 MARCH 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB MARCH MEETING 2021
