STEWARDS’ REPORT

SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022

SATURDAY, 15 JANUARY 2022

STATE OF TRACK: Good

Course A (Rail @ 4M Entire Course)

Panel of Stewards:

Dato’ Rick Loh Lap Sang (Racing Committee Member) – Chairman

Mr Mahendran a/l Ponniah (Racing Committee Member)

Mr Fin Powrie (Chief Stipendiary Steward)

Mr Thanaraja Kasinathan (Stipendiary Steward)

Mr Nigel Chong (Stipendiary Steward)

Veterinary Surgeons:

Dr Shri Kanth (Chief Veterinary Surgeon) & Dr James Yu.

RACE 1 (R075)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1250M (LONG COURSE)

Acting on veterinary advice that BUKIT SUBANG (MM Firdaus) was lame, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 12:42pm.  It was subsequently ascertained that BUKIT SUBANG had shifted its near fore plate.

After being loaded, UNION JAC (App M Ekdihar) was unruly, broke through the front gates and was restrained after approximately 30M. UNION JAC was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start. However, the front gate of UNION JAC Stall 7 was damaged and unable to be repaired expeditiously. As such, the Panel of Stewards under the provisions of MRA Rule 12(2)(a), directed that UNION JACK be placed in the available Stall 12. Whilst conscious of the provisions of MRA Rule 113(6), the Stewards made the ruling to expedite the matter as all other horses were loaded.

AIR POWER (L De Souza) had to steady running to the 750M when crowded slightly on the inside of TOOBIGTOOFAIL (SU Lim).

Jockey C Goon (SPIN FIRE) was warned related to the use of his whip which in the opinion of the Stewards, bordered on excessive.

A post-race veterinary examination of AIR POWER revealed that it returned with exertional heat illness and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

BOOM ALMIGHTY (App WW Cheah) which was standing awkwardly in the stalls, threw its head and subsequently lost ground when the start was effected.

PLATOON (L De Souza) travelled wide throughout. When questioned, Jockey L De Souza stated that from his outside barrier, he was unable to secure a position behind the lead where he wished to be and PLATOON had pulled extremely hard in the early stages.

Near the 700M, EMPEROR WARRIOR (SU Lim) steadied momentarily when TAIL SPIN (App R Nuqman) rolled in.

App A Suriya advised that JUST DUIT was unable to go with the early pace and as a consequence, was in a rearward position. JUST DUIT will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT LOVE (J De Souza) revealed no significant finding.

TAIL SPIN returned having cast its off hind plate.

App AB Riduan (BLACK IS POWER) was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip at approximately the 400M.

RACE 3 (R077)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE)

HAVANA (MM Firdaus) which refused to enter the stalls, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:46pm. In light of the gelding’s poor history, it will be required to pass 2 Starting Stall tests before being declared to race again. Jockey MM Firdaus was reprimanded for his conduct and manner in which he handled HAVANA at the start.

MAZANZE (C Goon) was slow into stride.

Running to the 1000M, MR PAULANDRE (KP Lim) pulled hard, had to be restrained when striding onto the heels of THE ICEMAN (App A Suriya).

Near the 350M, ATTENTION (J Daniel) shifted in, causing MAZANZE which was racing erratically, to be steadied. Thereafter ATTENTION had to be steadied off the heels of SHA NA NA (App S Uzair).

TARZAN (App M Lukman) drifted out in the straight.

When questioned as to the reason he was so far back, Jockey J Daniel advised that ATTENTION had been slow to begin and had been off the bit in the early pace when it was urged to attain a midfield position. He had then elected to allow ATTENTION to settle into the race and it finished the race off well. He was of the opinion that the gelding was better suited by being ridden quietly in the early stages.

Jockey C Goon was questioned regarding his riding of MAZANZE in the straight. He advised that he was instructed to secure cover and not to be trapped wide from the wide barrier position, and also due to the long course, to allow MAZANZE to work into the race. He considered that although jumping well, MAZANZE had not shown any early pace although he had continually niggled at the gelding in an endeavour to maintain its mid-rear position. He advised that he had been impeded somewhat when ATTENTION had shifted in near the 300M and had steadied outwards to secure a run.

RACE 6 (R080)         OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

An objection was lodged by Jockey J De Souza (FLAMING PHOENIX), placed second, against UPTOWN GIRL (App S Uzair) being declared the winner, alleging interference at about the 100M. The Panel of Stewards dismissed the objection.

Running to the 1000M, THE SWAN (J Daniel) steadied from the heels of READY TO GOOD LUCK (App S Sia).

BIG DRAGON (App R Nuqman), MENTAL (App N Varmah) and GREATEST ALL TIME (KC Tham) raced wide in the middle stages.

Near the 250M, UPTOWN GIRL commenced to lay inwards causing GREATEST ALL TIME to check near the 200M and then UPTOWN GIRL crowded FLAMING PHOENIX with that filly restraining from the heels of UPTOWN GIRL near the 25M. On inquiry, App S Uzair, the rider of UPTOWN GIRL, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer L Moy, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in at this stage.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Uzair’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 24 January 2022 and to expire on 2 February 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

ROYALTY’S WISH (App K Pavinthran) which finished last, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having poor performance.

When questioned as to the reason ROTI KAYA had been ridden in a rearward position, App AB Riduan stated that the gelding did not react when the start was effected and subsequently lost ground, and then despite his urging, showed no early speed. A post-race veterinary examination of ROTI KAYA revealed that it returned with swelling over the off fore tendon. The gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (scan) test before being declared to race again.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 12 (R012) CLASS 4 (B) – 1250M (SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 1 JANUARY 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022

The Stewards, on 12 January 2022 (Wednesday), questioned Trainer HY Cheng and App AB Riduan relating to the performance of VAIN TYCOON in the above race.

The Stewards reported at that time that VAIN TYCOON was fractious in the stalls, kicking out and when jumping awkwardly, had struck App AB Riduan’s right leg on the outside gate, thereafter he was transported to hospital for observation.

A subsequent medical examination of App AB Riduan revealed a soft tissue injury to the outside of the right ankle with limited range of motion due to pain, and was subsequently given 5-day medical leave.

App AB Riduan stated that in the race, after striking his ankle, he had been unable to position VAIN TYCOON and thus travelled wide until straightening, and although attempting to ride the gelding out in the straight, he had done so by standing in only the left stirrup iron due to the pain in his other leg and had thus become unbalanced on several occasions.

In light of VAIN TYCOON’s barrier manner, the gelding had undergone a Barrier Practice on 11 January 2022 to the satisfactory of the Stewards. App AB Riduan was required to demonstrate his fitness and suitability to ride before being permitted to ride in a race, which he passed on Thursday, 13 January 2022.

RACE 8 (R008) CLASS 3 – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 1 JANUARY 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022

The Stewards, on 5 January 2022 (Wednesday), inquired into Jockey AK Lim’s riding of ROCKET PEGASUS in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey AK Lim and Trainer R Lines, the rider and trainer of ROCKET PEGASUS respectively.

After considering the evidence and also reviewing the performance of ROCKET PEGASUS, the Stewards found Jockey AK Lim guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that in the opinion of the Stewards, his riding of ROCKET PEGASUS over the final 250M, was inconsistent with his previous riding style and his left arm action, did not assist the gelding.

The Stewards took into consideration Jockey AK Lim’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) months, to be deferred, with effect from 10 January 2022 and to expire on 9 March 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 5 (R005) CLASS 5 (A) – 1500M (LONG COURSE), SATURDAY, 1 JANUARY 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022

Jockey C Goon (BELIEVER) was reprimanded for using his whip in an excessive manner.

AMENDMENT

RACE 7 (R007) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 1 JANUARY 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2022

WISHUPONASTAR shifted in passing the 100M causing TALENTED to check and brush with RINGS OF FIRE (Y Aify). On inquiry, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of WISHUPONASTAR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) for shifting out at this stage.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey HS Gill’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 10 January 2022 and to expire on 22 January 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Jockey CK Khaw (D’GREAT SWIFT) dropped his whip prior to the finish when struck by the whip of App K Pavinthran (SMART WARRIOR).

App Clyde Leck and Trainer C Leck were questioned regarding the reason why ALL WHITE was ridden in a rearward position. Trainer C Leck advised that the mare was agitated and sweating badly pre-race. Although he had instructed ALL WHITE to be ridden in a forward position, the mare had been sitting back when the start was effected and was slow to begin. App Clyde Leck added that as a result, he was unable to secure a forward position although urging the mare throughout and in the straight, ALL WHITE had run on only moderately. Trainer C Leck stated that he will monitor ALL WHITE and report back to the Stewards.

SPORTS TOTO 5D STAKES

At the start, GENERAL QIN (MM Firdaus) shifted in, crowding THUNDERGOD (App AB Riduan) which lost ground.

Running to the 900M, ACROBAT (App WW Cheah) raced fiercely.

After racing wide in the middle stages, GENERAL QIN was inclined to lay inwards in the straight.

Near the 200M, THUNDERGOD (App AB Riduan) baulked badly and lost ground. App AB Riduan explained that although not tightened by MIEJ (AK Lim) on his outside, THUNDERGOD had taken fright and mistrode at this stage. App AB Riduan was reminded of his obligations to report any incident that occurs during a race.

RACE 4 (R984)         CLASS 4 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

SPORTS TOTO 4D ZODIAC STAKES

Acting on veterinary advice that D’GREAT RICH was lame near hind, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.  The mare will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

GODFATHERS (App AB Riduan) dwelt when the start was effected, losing considerable ground. In light of this, Trainer HY Cheng was advised that GODFATHERS will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again.

GODFATHERS raced fiercely near the 1000M and threw its head.

The Stewards questioned Jockey HK Cheng with regards to his riding of TOPMOST. He stated that TOPMOST had not begun quickly and although he had been instructed to lead, the gelding was reluctant to proceed forward after the tardy start. He had then been caught wide and when attempting to come in near the 1000M, he had stayed wide, not wishing to pressure CHONKY POTATO (App Clyde Leck) on his inside. Whilst accepting his explanation, the Stewards advised Jockey HK Cheng that he must endeavour to secure a more reasonable position in future.

Acting on veterinary advice that LIM’S TORPEDO had sustained a laceration to the left commissure of the mouth, the gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:30pm.  The gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination before being entered to race again.

BIG G (App M Ekdihar) which was difficult to be loaded, will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again.

SHA NA NA (App N Varmah) was slow into stride and trailed the field in the early stages.

BIG G returned having cast its near fore plate.

The Stewards questioned App Clyde Leck and Trainer C Leck as to the reason why STAY SOUND was ridden in a rearward position. Trainer C Leck advised that he had instructed for the gelding to be ridden midfield, however, he believed that STAY SOUND was caught flat-footed when other horses passed him and he ended up with a wall of horses in front. He was of the opinion that although STAY SOUND was impeded slightly on straightening, this had denied him running a place as the horse had run on well. App Clyde Leck agreed that the field had crossed quickly in front of him and he was further back than desired, although he had worked to obtain a good position on straightening, he had been impeded shortly after.

This race was run in rain.

MURDOCH (App Clyde Leck) was slow into stride.

LADY BLA BLA (App N Varmah) and CAPONE (HS Gill) raced wide in the middle stages.

When blocked for a clear run on straightening, LEADING CELLIST (App A Suriya) shifted out, bumping the hind-quarters of TWENTY-SIXTWELVE (J Daniel). LEADING CELLIST was then blocked and shifted in. This caused ATLANTIC ARROW (S Ruzaini) to be checked near the 250M.

On inquiry, App A Suriya, the rider of LEADING CELLIST, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, C Leck, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in at this stage.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Suriya’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days with effect from 6 December 2021 and to expire on 18 December 2021, both dates inclusive. RACE 1 (R969)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1250M (LONG COURSE)

Shortly after the start, I’M COMING (App AB Riduan) veered inwards, crowding BOOM ALMIGHTY (App S Sia) which in turn caused KUBERA’S CHIEF (App R Nuqman) to throw its head when being steadied. App AB Riduan was reprimanded for shifting in at this stage.

Approaching the 950M, KUBERA’S CHIEF raced fiercely and hung outwards onto the heels of FRIDAY (C Goon).

Near the 650M, FRIDAY raced erratically and collapsed. A post-race veterinary examination of FRIDAY revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again. Jockey C Goon was examined by the Club Doctor who subsequently stood him down from his riding engagement for his remainder ride today.

BANGALORE (App Clyde Leck) raced wide throughout.

A post-mortem examination of I’M COMING which collapsed and expired after the race, will be conducted.

Jockey J Low (JOCKEY KING) was fined RM500/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for weighing out without his stirrup irons. Trainer HY Cheng’s representative was warned that he must ensure all saddles presented are fully mounted.

LUCKY JUSTICE (J Daniel) veered outwards on jumping, bumping JOCKEY KING (J Low), causing it to lose ground.

READY TO SMILE (App WW Cheah) threw its head at the start. The Stewards inquired into App WW Cheah’s riding of READY TO SMILE. Trainer R Lines advised that he instructed that READY TO SMILE be ridden in a midfield position although the mare had raced on the pace but in a substantially weaker field at its previous start.

App WW Cheah stated that the mare had thrown its head badly when fly-jumping at the start and although attaining a midfield position, had continued to throw its head until the 800M. He had kept his hands down in an effort to have the mare settled in what he believed was a reasonable midfield position.

When questioned regarding his riding style in the straight, he stated that he had taken permission from his Employing Trainer, Mr R Lines to try a different style as he had been practicing an English style of riding. Mr R Lines agreed with this and advised that he was of the opinion that at no stage was App WW Cheah restraining READY TO SMILE and that whilst the style in this race was not consistent with his other riding, that he believed he had ridden the mare so as to be fully tested. A subsequent veterinary examination of READY TO SMILE at the stables ascertained that the mare had a sharp process to the pre-molar and first molar on the lower right hand side.

After a protracted inquiry, the Stewards gave App WW Cheah the benefit of the doubt but issued a warning that he must ensure that he rides in a manner that demonstrates that every mount is fully tested irrespective of the circumstances.

Trainer R Lines was advised that he must secure a veterinary certificate READY TO SMILE for of suitability before being declared to race again.

GUNFORHIRE (Y Aify) was ridden wide throughout.

FLASH ONE (J De Souza) drifted out over the concluding 75M and brushed with TRAFALGAR (S Ruzaini) near the 50M.

LUCKY JUSTICE returned having cast its off fore plate.

RACE 5 (R973)         OPEN MAIDEN – 1400M (LONG COURSE)

INVICTUS WARRIOR (HS Gill) was slow into stride and raced wide in the middle stages.

OISIN EXPRESS (L De Souza) veered inwards on jumping, bumping LION KING (J Low) in onto FLAMING PHOENIX which lost considerable ground.

AIR BOSS (S Ruzaini) raced wide throughout.

App A Suriya (WHITE RABBIT) dropped his near side rein near the 300M. This was referred to the Head of Apprentice School for remedial action.

LION KING laid inwards onto INVICTUS WARRIOR near the 250M.

The Stewards questioned Jockey MM Firdaus (FLAMING PHOENIX) related to his riding of FLAMING PHOENIX. It was confirmed that FLAMING PHOENIX had been bumped heavily at the start. Although Jockey MM Firdaus had wished to ride the filly midfield, it had been in a rearward position and reluctant to pick up and in the straight, he had raced greenly. When making significant ground in the straight, he had to restrain FLAMING PHOENIX when running onto the heels of the tiring INVICTUS WARRIOR. Whilst accepting his reasoning, the Stewards advised Jockey MM Firdaus that he is expected show significant initiative and vigour in every race. Considering that FLAMING PHOENIX did not show any pace in the race, the gelding will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of KALA GHODA (J Shankar) revealed that it returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

MR HOPKINS shifted out, bumping TELLER at the 150M.

GALILEO’S APPROACH (J Daniel) and MAGNOLIA BLVD (S Ruzaini) brushed on several occasions over the final 100M.

The Stewards questioned Jockey Y Aify regarding his riding of LONELY BOY in the straight. He advised that he had been impeded when attempting a run in the straight and explained his riding action in that he was attempting to pick-up the gelding as it was not responding as he wished. The Stewards reprimanded Jockey Y Aify that he is expected to ride in a manner so as to fully test his mounts.

ME NO MARSH MELLOW (R Rueven) bounded in the air at the start, losing ground.

Shortly after the start, DOCTOR GINGER was tightened and shifted in, causing BAADSHAH (J Shankar) to be squeezed and lose ground.

DOCTOR GINGER was ridden wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the riding of KONG FU PANDA (J Low), Jockey J Low advised that he had been instructed to sit the gelding 4th , 5th and he tried to relax KONG FU PANDA, however, he raced in 3rd position in a keen manner and in the straight, had been one-paced.

Trainer KC Tiang advised that he had instructed that the gelding be ridden in 4th , 5th as in its previous start, it had weakened when ridden forward. He had instructed KONG FU PANDA to be ridden in a more relaxed fashion given the long course but this has not eventuated as the gelding had raced fiercely. Trainer KC Tiang advised he would instruct for KONG FU PANDA to be ridden in a forward position where it would be comfortable.

The Stewards inquired into Jockey S Ruzaini’s riding of LITTLE MASTER. He advised that he had been instructed to ride LITTLE MASTER in a mid-to-back position as it was considered to be too short for the gelding. He had achieved this positioning and had ridden LITTLE MASTER vigourously in the straight, however, believed the gelding was awkwardly with its head action and was inclined to hang out over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding his whip action, he explained that he had alternated backhand and a forehand usage and maintained that each “hit” was indeed making contact.

Whilst accepting the manner in which LITTLE MASTER was ridden in the early stages given its prior record, the Stewards advised Jockey S Ruzaini that he must put every horse in a position and ride it in a manner so as to fully test its potential.

BERLINETTA (S Ruzaini) veered outwards at the start, inconveniencing RIDE A WHITE HORSE (App S Uzair).

JARL (App R Nuqman) raced wide in the middle stages.

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini as to the reason he had not led on BERLINETTA. Trainer KP Hoy stated that it was the gelding’s first time over the 1800M in Malaysia. Although BERLINETTA led at its previous start, he had instructed, to give BERLINETTA an opportunity to run out the 1800M, that it be ridden off the pace.

Jockey S Ruzaini advised that the raced developed quickly with early speed from the 2 leaders but he had been unable to secure cover as several runners had pushed up on his inside. He had steadily made ground and was close to the leading pair on straightening, he had put BERLINETTA under pressure in the straight but the gelding had failed to respond and it lost considerable ground. He was of the opinion that BERLINETTA was not suited to distances greater than 1600M. In considering this, the Stewards warned Jockey S Ruzaini that he must ride every horse in a positive manner. Trainer KP Hoy was instructed that given his statement, that he should restrict BERLINETTA’s starts to shorter distance races.

RACE 1 (R838) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M (LONG COURSE), SATURDAY, 30 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

The Stewards, on 2 November 2021, concluded an inquiry into an interference to KING OF GLORY (App R Nuqman) shortly after the start and evidence was taken from Jockey J Daniel, the rider of ASIAN JET.

Jockey J Daniel (ASIAN JET) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in at this stage. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Daniel’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 1 November 2021 and to expire on 7 November 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

TUESDAY, 2 NOVEMBER 2021, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL

The Stewards, on 3 November 2021, questioned Jockey J Shankar as to his riding of WANTED PAYOUT in Trial 13 (over 400M) at SLTC on Tuesday, 2 November 2021.

It was established that WANTED PAYOUT had a tendency to hang in and Jockey J Shankar had shifted in bumping FIRST PRECINCT (Pre App T Ammar) and then shifted in, crossing that gelding.

Whilst accepting Jockey J Shankar’s reasoning, the Stewards reprimanded him for failing to afford another runner sufficient room throughout the trial.

RACE 1 (R788)         CLASS 5 (B) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

On jumping, ASIAN JET (J Daniel) veered inwards and bumped MOOGATE GOLD (App WW Cheah) heavily which was tightened by SPARKLE LOT (MM Firdaus) which shifted out. Jockey J Daniel was warned the he must afford runners on his inside sufficient room.

From its wide barrier, TRINITY FLYING (HS Gill) raced wide in the early stages.

The saddle on MOONGATE GOLD slipped backwards mid-race.

Trainer HY Cheng was questioned as to the reason that SHOW ROYALE (App AB Riduan) had led as opposed to its previous start. He stated that the gelding was stepping up to 1300M from the 1100M when he had instructed that the horse to be ridden where it was comfortable on the pace. However, SHOW ROYALE had jumped only moderately and able only to race in midfield. He instructed the same today and App AB Riduan was able to easily lead from its inside barrier. Trainer HY Cheng was advised that he is expected to ensure that SHOW ROYALE would be ridden in consistent fashion in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of NEWTON (S Zulfikri) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SATELLITE GENIUS (Y Aify) revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of ASIAN JET revealed no significant finding.

COMMODORE LINCOLN (Y Aify) was slow into stride.

NORTHERN KNIGHT (SU Lim) shifted out sharply and tightened TWENTYSIXTWELVE (J Daniel) which caused FIVE HUNDRED (C Goon) to check. FIVE HUNDRED was then ridden in a rearward position.

At a conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of NORTHERN KNIGHT,  pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted out at this stage. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Selangor Turf Club race days with effect from 18 October 2021 and to expire on 30 October 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Running to the turn near the 1000M, UNLIMITED STAR (App WW Cheah) shied outwards quickly, inconveniencing ATTENTION (HS Gill) which then carried LUCK MAK MAK (L De Souza) wide. UNLIMITED STAR then raced erratically in the straight. Trainer R Lines was advised to take remedial action with the gelding.

NORTHERN KNIGHT was inclined to lay inwards in the straight.

RACE 3 (R790)         CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE)

PEARL DANCER (C Goon) raced wide in the middle stages.

Trainer C Leck was questioned as to the reason STAY SOUND (placed third) had led by a considerable margin as opposed to its rearward performance on 2 October 2021. He stated that he was mystified as to how STAY SOUND had led so easily as he believed the gelding would have displayed a considerable different attitude than its previous starts in order to be able to race prominently. He could only offer a suggestion that STAY SOUND was fresh, given that he had confined the gelding work with swimming since its previous start. Whilst accepting that STAY SOUND had not been ridden vigourously from the start nor mid-race, the Stewards advised Trainer C Leck that it was expected that STAY SOUND to be ridden in a similar fashion, leading or handy, in its future starts.

UNION JAC (App R Nuqman) was slow into stride.

D’GREAT STRIKE (KC Wong) was inclined to lay inwards in the straight.

App AB Riduan (LET’S COME ON BABY) reported that from a wide barrier, LET’S COME ON BABY did not relish the shifting nature of the track.

The saddle on ULURU (L De Souza) slipped backwards on straightening.

A post-race veterinary examination of UNION JAC revealed that it returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

From its wide barrier, ASIAN TIGER (App AB Riduan) raced wide throughout.

MAGNUM FORCE (App WW Cheah) shifted inwards near the 300M at the same time as ICHIKA BACHIKA (App S Uzair) shifted out with those geldings bumping. ICHIKA BACHIKA then drifted out under whip riding. App WW Cheah and App S Uzair were both warned that they must stop using their whips when they shift ground.

LEGENDARY ERA (J De Souza) drifted out over the concluding 75M.

Post-race veterinary examinations of FIRST PRECINCT (J Shankar) and ASIAN TIGER revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of KING’S ORDER (SU Lim) revealed that the gelding bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Near the 950M, UPSTART (App K Pavinthran) which was trailing the field, shifted in quickly and veered away from the running rail, becoming unbalanced. App K Pavinthran lost his off side stirrup iron and also became unbalanced, trailing the field by a considerable margin. In light of the gelding’s actions, Trainer C Leck was advised that UPSTART will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

Near the 1000M, MAGIC SEVENTY TWO (App R Nuqman) which was racing wide, veered outwards away from the heels of ATLANTIC ARROW (S Ruzaini) and continued to race wide until into the straight.

At the 850M, BANG BANG (App A Suriya) steadied when crossed by LUCKY TIGER (App AB Riduan) and shifted in. This caused PROPLAYER (SU Lim) to be restrained. On inquiry, App AB Riduan was reprimanded for failing to afford sufficient room when crossing.

App A Suriya (BANG BANG) was fined the sum of RM500/- under MRA Rule 44(12) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

App K Pavinthran was examined by the Club Doctor who subsequently stood him down from his riding engagement for his remainder ride.

UPSTART returned having cast its near fore plate.

At the 1000M, ELITE WATERGHOST (App R Nuqman) and BLOOD ROYAL (CK Khaw) bumped with BLOOD ROYAL becoming unbalanced.

TOP S (HS Gill) raced wide throughout. Jockey HS Gill advised that he had been trapped wide from his wide barrier draw and near the 400M, TOP S had dipped. He had then eased the gelding as it was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of TOP S revealed no significant finding.

At the 650M, PERFECT BRANDZ steadied off the heels of LIM’S PERSHING.

Jockey M Ganeesh (CHINESE TEA) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Panel of Stewards considered the application for a stay which was not granted. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the disqualification of eighteen (18) months and fine of RM50,000/- will be held at a date to be fixed.

FRIDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2021, SLTC TRACKWORK

RACE 9 (R764) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

The Stewards, on 15 October 2021 (Friday), inquired into Jockey S Zulfikri’s riding of AUSSIE EAGLE in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey S Zulfikri and Trainer S Siva, the rider and trainer of AUSSIE EAGLE respectively.

After considering the evidence and also reviewing the performance of AUSSIE EAGLE when winning on 26 September 2021, the Stewards found Jockey S Zulfikri guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that:

  1. He had unduly restrained AUSSIE EAGLE at the start although instructed to be in a handy-to-mid position;
  2. He remained behind SUPER BB (AK Lim) from the 450M until into the straight although presented with opportunities to improve his positon;
  3. His whip action and its veracity in the straight were inconsistent in affording AUSSIE EAGLE the best chance to improve.

The Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Zulfikri’s recent riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months, to be deferred, with effect from 18 October 2021 and to expire on 17 January 2022, both dates inclusive. He was also fined the sum of RM20,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

RACE 10 (R765) CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

At the conclusion of an inquiry today (17 October 2021), Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of D’GREAT SONG, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in near the 800M causing KUBERA’S CHIEF (App R Nuqman) to check.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Ruzaini’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Selangor Turf Club race days with effect from 18 October 2021 and to expire on 30 October 2021, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards, on 17 October 2021, concluded an inquiry into Jockey S Ruzaini’s ride on LIM’S TORPEDO. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that he had been instructed to ride in rear position consistent with its previous start although the gelding was drawn on the inside.

On jumping, he had been bumped by MERCURIAL TURN (J De Souza). He had then been behind that gelding and was unable to improve until straightening. When attempting a run on straightening, he had been marginally blocked when BAOYE CHAMPION (App AB Riduan) had drifted in and although he had placed LIM’S TORPEDO thereafter under significant pressure with the whip, the gelding had failed to past a horse in the straight. His explanations were noted.
