He also advised that he had subsequently used his whip near the 800M but it was not until in the straight that SHOW HAND had raced competitively.

The Stewards questioned Jockeys HS Gill (MONDAY) and KP Lim (BIG G) relating to contact made over the final 200M. Jockey HS Gill stated that he had been crowded from his outside after having made initial contact with BIG G and when cramped for room when using his whip, he believed that BIG G was attempting to savage his horse. As such, he had extended his right arm and fended the gelding off. Although accepting this explanation, the Stewards reminded Jockey HS Gill of his obligation and entitlement related to not interfering with any other runner.

The Stewards inquired into Jockey KP Lim’s riding of BIG G in this race. Evidence was taken from Jockey KP Lim and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of BIG G respectively.

The Stewards considered the evidence tendered and also reviewed the films of BIG G. Jockey KP Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that the manner in which he failed to exercise any vigour and failed to pull his horse out when in contact with MONDAY (HS Gill) over the final 150M.

The Stewards took into consideration Jockey KP Lim’s guilty plea, riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. Further, the Stewards considered that the contact made and maintained by MONDAY having shifted out, was a mitigating circumstance. Subsequently, he was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 29 August 2022 and to expire on 28 November 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (7:02pm).

6 GOLDEN SPRINT(App WW Cheah) Ridden wide throughout from its outside draw. Returned cast off fore plate.
8 RUNNING SPIRIT(KP Lim) Crowded shortly after the start, losing considerable ground.

Jockey S Ruzaini (GOLDEN KING) explained that although instructed to ride in a handy position, he had been severely crowded at the start and had thus been worse than midfield. On straightening, the gelding had kept the bit on one side and had shifted out. Given that it was his first ride on the gelding, it had taken him by surprise and though attempting to straighten, he had been unsuccessful.

Trainer HY Cheng stated that GOLDEN KING was having its initial start in Malaysia and suggested that it was best suited by staying type races. He also stated that he put Blinkers/Pacifiers as the gelding trialed somewhat greenly. In light of this, Trainer HY Cheng was advised that GOLDEN KING will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test (3 weeks embargo) before being declared to race again.

However today, although instructed to ride a forward race, the gelding had shown no early pace and he pushed it, ridden vigourously from the start, he was of the opinion that the gelding had not appreciated racing week-to-week.

Trainer KC Tiang stated that he was disappointed in the manner in which STAR BULLET was ridden wide and highlighted that the gelding had finished only 7 lengths from the winner. However, given the nature of this performance, he undertook that he would not start STAR BULLET for 3 weeks.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 4 (R751) CLASS 4 (A) – 1500M (A LONG COURSE), SATURDAY, 25 JUNE 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2022

The Stewards, on Wednesday, 29 June 2022, concluded an inquiry into the fall of Jockey J Daniel from KENG MAK MAK at the 800M in the above race.

Jockey J Daniel confirmed that KENG MAK MAK was racing alone and unimpeded when flattering badly resulting in him being dislodged. AFALONHRO (App WW Cheah) which was following, collided with KENG MAK MAK and fell.

The Stewards attributed the incident to KENG MAK MAK breaking down at this point. The gelding was subsequently euthanized.

RACE 10 (R747) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (C4 LONG COURSE), SUNDAY, 19 JUNE 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2022

The Stewards, on Tuesday, 28 June 2022, inquired into Jockey KC Wong being dislodged from I LOVE YOU in the above race. Evidence was taken from Jockey KC Wong (I LOVE YOU) and App S Sia (MOONGATE FIVE), in the presence of his Employing Trainer, R Lines.

App S Sia, the rider of MOONGATE FIVE, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted out slightly across the heels of FOREVER AND EVER (App I Fikri) near the 800M and this move caused I LOVE YOU to clip his heels and blundered, thereby dislodging Jockey KC Wong.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Sia’s guilty plea, his current record and also the fact that the level of culpability was at the lower end despite the causative effect of a rider being dislodged. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) Malaysian race days with effect from 11 July 2022 and to expire on 24 July 2022, both dates inclusive, to be served cumulatively with any other penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

FOLLOW-UP(S) – SATURDAY, 25 JUNE 2022

RACE 8 – FA FA STAR

Trainer S Deva Raj advised that FA FA STAR (8th) returned to the stables having pulled up well and was disappointed with the run. He further stated that he would have the gelding fully vetted and it was his intention to continue with FA FA STAR’s training regime.

FOLLOW-UP(S) – SUNDAY, 26 JUNE 2022

RACE 3 – JULIUS CAESAR

Trainer KF Coetzee reported that on returning to his stables, he considered JULIUS CAESAR (10th) had felt the effect of the firm track. Further that the gelding had won on a “Yielding” track at its previous start and on the straight course. It was his intention to monitor JULIUS CAESAR’s status and advise any issues, but JULIUS CAESAR would not start for at least three (3) weeks.

RACE 12 – THE JEWELLER

Trainer KF Coetzee reported that on returning to stables, THE JEWELLER had sustained an injury to its right eye. He advised that the injury would be treated and resolved before THE JEWELLER race again.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

RACE 9 (R756) SUPREME A – 1250M (A SHORT COURSE), SATURDAY, 25 JUNE 2022, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JUNE MEETING 2022

When questioned, Jockey R Woodworth (AWESOME STORM) stated that he had been instructed to go forward and to take a sit unless able to get a soft lead. He believed he had crossed easily from his wide barrier, although having to work in some regard to obtain the lead. Further that on straightening, although travelling well, as soon as he asked AWESOME STORM for an effort, the gelding failed to respond but only faded in the last 75M.

Trainer S Dunderdale confirmed these instructions, however, was of the opinion that AWESOME STORM had been asked to work too hard in being asked to lead and he considered that this had taken a toll on the gelding in the straight. He advised that AWESOME STORM had pulled up well and that the gelding would not start for three (3) weeks.

When questioned as to the reason HAKUNA MATATA had led, Trainer BT Lim advised that he had instructed that the gelding be ridden wherever comfortable and did not foresee it being in a leading division, given that this was his first start over the 1600M.  However, given the slow nature of the pace, he was dissatisfied in the manner which App A Suriya had ridden the gelding.

App A Suriya concurred with these instructions and stated that he had wished to ride in a mid-race position, however, HAKUNA MATATA had simply rolled forward into a lead position easily and he had been content to sit outside the leader. The Stewards accepted their explanations.
