PACIFIC SOLDIER

(App Clyde Leck)

*(See Report)

Jockey S Salee (SHENG WARRIOR) was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 107(10) in that he was unable to make the carded weight. The Stewards granted permission for Jockey KC Low to replace Jockey S Salee as the rider of SHENG WARRIOR.

App Clyde Leck appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his tactics on PACIFIC SOLDIER. In this regard, he explained that after his mount jumped well and showed good early speed, he elected to use this advantage and use obtain a forward position. He stated that it was not his intention to lead, however, this was a product of his quick beginning. He further explained that moving through the 1200M when he attempted to slow the speed, JING JIN (L De Souza) had raced alongside him which had resulted in PACIFIC SOLDIER taking a hold of the bit and him being able to restrain. This, in his opinion, had contributed to the fast early pace to his mount. The Panel noted the explanation of App Clyde Leck.

The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey AL Da Silva, however, warned him against the practice of looking around in races.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection as it could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, OUR SECRET WEAPON would not have finished ahead of FROM THE NAVY.

App PH Seow (PACIFIC VICTORY) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding her riding instructions in this race particularly with regards to this horse leading. In this regard, she explained that she had not anticipated that she would lead in this race, however, upon jumping, she had observed that her mount had the chance to go forward easily and accordingly, she decided to cease this opportunity.

Trainer J Ong appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding instructions on PACIFIC VICTORY in this race. In this regard, he stated that he had not anticipated any position for this horse in the running and had merely advised App PH Seow to jump and place the horse wherever it was comfortable. When questioned regarding what in his mind would be the various scenarios of these instructions from best to worst, Trainer J Ong could offer the Panel no explanation. Nevertheless, after considering the circumstances of the race, the Panel accepted App PH Seow’s explanation, however, drew Trainer J Ong’s attention to past infractions regarding unclear instructions and cautioned him regarding the issuance of instructions in races.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App M Ekdihar, the rider of TRUE LOVE, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, SY Lim, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to POPEYETHESAILORMAN and MALAKAI at approximately the 250M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App M Ekdihar’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 30 December 2024 and to expire on 5 January 2024, both dates inclusive. CHIEF OF ARMY

(KC Tham)

Slow into stride. Shifted out in the concluding stages.

Leaving the 800M, THUNDERSTORM had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the inside of NIMBUS COURAGE and PACIFIC DELIGHT.

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by the Mr. L Moy, the Trainer of the second placed horse THUNDERSTORM against the winner PACIFIC DELIGHT, on the grounds of interference at approximately the 800M.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, THUNDERSTORM would have finished ahead of PACIFIC DELIGHT, therefore it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge’s result to stand.

The Stewards, today, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of DIAZ. Evidence was taken from Jockey Z Khairil and Trainer NM Selvan, the rider and trainer of DIAZ respectively.

After reviewing the films of the incident and considering the evidence tendered, Jockey Z Khairil was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that despite his mount obtaining an advantage in the field from about the 900M to the 750M, he unreasonably restrained his mount despite having the opportunity to hold in his position on the rail, which restraint ultimately resulting in DIAZ becoming awkwardly placed, stumbling, having to ease and lose a significant distance in the running.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Z Khairil’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months with effect from 9 December 2024 and to expire on 8 March 2025, both dates inclusive. He was also fined RM10,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey AK Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Malaysian race day, with effect from 9 December 2024 and to expire on 14 December 2024, both dates inclusive.
