SPIN FIRE (S Sandana) raced wide from the 700M until entering the straight.

Post-race veterinary examinations of FLAMING FIREHEART (C Goon), NOTHING TO LOSE and JUST NAME IT (SU Lim) revealed no obvious abnormality.

After taking initial evidence from Trainer Peter Lee, the trainer of CLASSIC KING and App CK Khaw, the rider of CLASSIC KING in the presence of his master, Trainer R Lines, the Panel of Stewards will open an Inquiry into the riding of CLASSIC KING will be held at a date to be fixed.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Jockey C Goon and Trainer J Tan, the rider and the trainer of FLAMING FIREHEART as to the gelding’s poor performance today. Trainer J Tan explained that his instructions were to settle midfield. Jockey C Goon explained that in the early stages, he was caught wide on the gelding and rather than to come back and lose ground, he elected to go forward and let the gelding stride. He further stated that on straightening when placed under pressure, FLAMING FIREHEART failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the finish.

Trainer J Tan explained that he considered that FLAMING FIREHEART ran its best race in Penang and may not be a good traveller. He also stated that the gelding was racing in a stronger race today. He could offer no further explanations. The Panel of Stewards noted his explanations. He was advised to report back to the Panel of Stewards, if he detects any abnormality with the gelding when it returns to the stable. He was reminded of his obligations under MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and out running.

PERAK JULY (PERAK GOLD VASE) MEETING, 2ND DAY, SUNDAY, 2nd JULY 2017

On Wednesday, 5th July 2017, Trainer A Scott advised the Panel of Stewards that LISTEN had returned to the stables at Selangor Turf Club with swelling around its near side lower flank, an injury that the horse suffered in the race. The Perak Turf Club Veterinary Surgeon confirmed that he had observed the swelling after the race. The Panel of Stewards noted Trainer A Scott’s report and LISTEN will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Jockey Y Aify, the rider of LISTEN in the above race today, Saturday, 8th July 2017. Jockey Y Aify stated that his instructions were to be midfield and that LISTEN traveled well and on entering the straight, was taken wider when CAPTAIN JAZZ (J Low) shifted out. Jockey Y Aify further stated that due to LISTEN’s tendency to lay in in the straight, he elected not to race wide and shifted in. At the 250M and the 100M, he had to stop riding and straighten LISTEN as it laid in.

Jockey Y Aify further stated that LISTEN finished the race off well and is better-suited over longer distance. The Panel of Stewards noted his explanations and advised him that in future, he is to ride all his mounts in a manner to leave no room for query.
