REVIEW REPORT:

RACE 5 (R1256) CLASS 4 – 1400m(lc) – ROSE OF SHARON HANDICAP

1ST DAY, SATURDAY, 7TH OCTOBER 2017, PERAK OCTOBER MEETING 2017

The Panel of Stewards concluded the inquiry into the improved performance of KUANTAN HILL and further evidences were taken from Trainer S Cook, App M Sathiaa, Jockey F Yap, who rode KUANTAN HILL on 3rd September 2017 at PRTC and also from Jockey TM Wan, who rode the gelding on 24th September at PNTC.

Both Jockeys F Yap and TM Wan confirmed that their instructions were to be three-quarters back and let the horse settle to finish the race off.  The Panel of Stewards reviewed both videos of the 3rd September 2017 and 24th September 2017 and were satisfied with the explanations tendered by both riders.  App M Sathiaa explained that on 7th October 2017, KUANTAN HILL dipped on several occasions in the straight and as a consequence, he was unable to ride the gelding out in his normal manner.  His explanation was noted.

Trainer S Cook explained that the instructions for the horse have never been changed with the main reasons he could contribute to its improved performance was the significant drop from Class 3 to Class 4 of the race on 7th October 2017.  Trainer S Cook was advised that the horses would be expected to be consistent in all running and his attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running. GENERAL REPORT – PRTC

RACE 3 (R1073)  CLASS 4 – 1400M(lc) – BERUAS MUSEUM HANDICAP

PERAK AUGUST/SEPTEMBER MEETING, SATURDAY, 26th AUGUST 2017

The Panel of Stewards have acceded to an application from App AK Lim to withdraw his appeal against the two days suspension under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) for careless riding on ADMEISTER in the above race.

The Panel of Stewards determined that App AK Lim’s suspension will commence with effect from Monday, 9th October 2017 and to expire on Sunday, 15th October 2017, both dates inclusive.  His deposit for the appeal is refunded.

GENERAL REPORT – SLTC

RACE 5 (R1169) METRO A – 1700M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2017, SELANGOR TURF CLUB SEPTEMBER MEETING 2017

The Stewards, on 3 October 2017 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry opened on 17 September 2017 into the running and handling of TRUSON which raced in last place until the home straight where it made modest late ground. Further evidence was taken from Jockey F Yap and Trainer S Cook, the rider and Trainer of TRUSON respectively. Jockey F Yap was assisted by Trainer WC Lim as an interpreter at this inquiry.  Jockey Lou Ho was also called as a witness as he was previously TRUSON’s regular rider.

Trainer S Cook stated that TRUSON has a habit of over-racing and he therefore instructed Jockey F Yap to get the gelding settled with cover before making his effort in the straight.

Jockey F Yap stated that he was able to get TRUSON settled in last place early despite the gelding throwing his head up in response to being restrained. He further stated that the bit was not in full contact with TRUSON’s mount and that he feared that the gelding would run wide if asked to improve his position. For this reason, he felt unable to take an opportunity to improve on the inside at the 1200M or to make ground on the outside between the 1000M and the 700M resulting in TRUSON getting further back than ideal.

After considering the evidence tendered and reviewing the films, the Stewards decided not to lay a charge under the Rules of Racing. However, the Stewards warned Jockey F Yap that in future he would be expected to ride throughout the race in such a manner so as to leave no room for query regarding his commitment to ensuring that his mounts were well positioned.

PRETTY ABLE (D Chong) shifted out on jumping away and brushed CROWN TREASURE (M Yusri) which in turn, brushed THE PROFESSIONAL (App S Saddam).

The saddle on THE PROFESSIONAL slipped backwards during the running.
