GENERAL REPORT(S)

RACE 2 (R0686) CLASS 5(B) -1200m(lc), GLENGETTIE HANDICAP,

SUNDAY, 14TH JULY 2024, PERAK JULY MEETING 2024

The Panel of Stewards today (21st July 2024) concluded their Inquiry into the running and

handling of USA CAPTAIN (AM Aizat) in the above race.  Further evidence was taken from Jockey AM Aizat and Trainer K Coetzee, the rider and trainer of USA CAPTAIN respectively.  After taking into consideration all evidence, Jockey AM Aizat was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride USA CAPTAIN to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The particulars of the charge are as follows:-

  • He failed to make sufficient effort to jump USA CAPTAIN with the field, resulting in it being slow into stride;

  • He steadied his mount on several occasions for no apparent reason between the 800M-mark and the 500M-mark and he thereby failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards;

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey AM Aizat’s points of mitigation and his riding record.   Jockey AM Aizat was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months with effect from 21st July 2024 and to expire on 20th November 2024, both days inclusive. In addition, he was fined a sum of RM20,000/- (Malaysian Ringgit Twenty Thousand).  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (11.55 am).

Jockey AM Aizat subsequently lodged a Notice of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence against the 4 months’ suspension and fine of RM20,000/- imposed under MRA Rule 44(10).  His application for a Stay of Sentence was GRANTED and the appeal proper will be held at a date to be fixed.

MAIDANZ BEAUTY (S Ruzaini) stumbled on jumping.

At approximately the 1100M-mark, MERCURIAL TURN (WW Cheah) became crowded and had to check when VETRI (HK Cheng) rolled inwards.  At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey HK Cheng pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) and was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days with effect from Sunday 31st December 2023 and to expire on Sunday, 7th January 2024, both days inclusive.  He was informed of his Right of Appeal (2.35 pm).

At about the 700M-mark, MERCURIAL TURN was crowded when racing tight on the inside of LUCKY STAR (App H Haikal).

FIRST SUCCESS (App H Haikal) was pulling hard and difficult to settle in the early stages.

Jockey How Yang, the rider of JEFFREY, reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noise.  A post-race veterinary examination of JEFFREY revealed that the gelding returned broken-winded and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of RISE OF THE LEGEND (App R Nuqman) and MAINSTREAM (S Ruzaini) revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey How Yang, the rider of JEFFREY, was questioned with regards to his ride at approximately the 800M-mark.  The only explanation he was able to offer was that he had attempted to shift his horse outwards for a number of strides for a run.  The Stewards were not entirely satisfied with his explanation and he was warned to ensure that in future, he rides all his mount out in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

Prior to the ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Jockey R Narendran, the rider of HELLO MONDAY, placed 5th, against PENANG GENERAL (AM Aizat), being declared the 2nd place getter, on the grounds of alleged interference at the latter stages.   After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

RACE 8  (MRA 1383) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400M

D’GREAT RISE which was down 22kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

The Stewards permitted Jockey AM Aizat to replace Jockey J Daniel as the rider of CHAR SIEW when the latter was certified unwell.

The Stewards permitted Jockey K Eirwan to replace Jockey S Zulfikri as the rider of MGR ROCKET.

This race was re-scheduled to start 5 minutes later at 5.20pm. and was run in steady rain.

MISS MICHELLE (HK Cheng) was difficult to load and became fractious, injuring Jockey HK Cheng who was then medically stood down by the Club Medical Officer.  MISS MICHELLE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 5.25pm and will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

At approximately the 800M-mark, LUCK HAPPY (App SN Shiva) steadied when racing tight on the inside of LEEDSTHEWAY (App R Nuqman).

PENANG MAN (App N Sharonnizam) was obliged to race wide on the turn.

At about the 50M-mark, LUCK HAPPY was inconvenienced when CHAR SIEW rolled in.

Jockey WW Cheah, the rider of D’GREAT RISE, reported that he felt something was amiss with his mount as it was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT RISE revealed no obvious abnormality.

All riders returned 1 kg over due to the inclement weather.
