GENERAL REPORT(S)

RACE 2 (R0686) CLASS 5(B) -1200m(lc), GLENGETTIE HANDICAP,

SUNDAY, 14TH JULY 2024, PERAK JULY MEETING 2024

The Panel of Stewards today (21st July 2024) concluded their Inquiry into the running and

handling of USA CAPTAIN (AM Aizat) in the above race.  Further evidence was taken from Jockey AM Aizat and Trainer K Coetzee, the rider and trainer of USA CAPTAIN respectively.  After taking into consideration all evidence, Jockey AM Aizat was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride USA CAPTAIN to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The particulars of the charge are as follows:-

  • He failed to make sufficient effort to jump USA CAPTAIN with the field, resulting in it being slow into stride;

  • He steadied his mount on several occasions for no apparent reason between the 800M-mark and the 500M-mark and he thereby failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards;

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the facts of this case, Jockey AM Aizat’s points of mitigation and his riding record.   Jockey AM Aizat was suspended from riding in races for a period of four (4) months with effect from 21st July 2024 and to expire on 20th November 2024, both days inclusive. In addition, he was fined a sum of RM20,000/- (Malaysian Ringgit Twenty Thousand).  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (11.55 am).

Jockey AM Aizat subsequently lodged a Notice of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence against the 4 months’ suspension and fine of RM20,000/- imposed under MRA Rule 44(10).  His application for a Stay of Sentence was GRANTED and the appeal proper will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 1 (MRA 0172)   CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M

Trainer B Ng was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to confirm with Jockey S Salee before declaring him on MERRY BELL.

The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MERRY BELL at 2.08 pm as there was no suitable rider available.

TWINKLE STAR (AM Aizat) brushed the inside gate on jumping and was slow to begin.

PENANG GENERAL (R Narendran) was slow into stride.

PENANG MAN (App N Shahronnizam) was hanging out in the latter stages and finished the race wide.

App SN Shiva, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, K Coetzee, was questioned as to why he switched out for a run at about the 400M-mark when there appeared to be room for him on the inside.  He explained that he had been instructed to shift his horse to the outside at that stage of the race for his horse to obtain a run.  This was confirmed by Trainer K Coetzee.  The explanation was noted.

RACE 2 (MRA 0173)   CLASS 5 (A) – 1100M

SUNNY STAR (R Narendran) was slow into stride.

A post-race veterinary examination of BOSSKU (AM Aizat) revealed no obvious abnormality.  An Inquiry into the running and handling of BOSSKU will be held at 2.00pm  on Monday, 26th February 2024 at the Perak Turf Club.

Trainer K Coetzee was questioned with regards to the improved performance of JAPAN CAPTAIN (App SN Shiva) today.  He had no tangible explanation to offer except that JAPAN CAPTAIN was racing over its preferred distance, coupled with the good draw and the going.  This, in his opinion, accounted for the improved performance.  Trainer K Coetzee’s explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding      “in-and-out” running (MRA Rule 117(3)).
