Trainer Johnny Lim’s Director (No. 4)kept up to his form to break the ice in the Class 3 event over 1200m in Race 5 at Selangor Turf Club last Saturday. The five-year-old by Smart Missile with Apprentice A. Zaimuddin on board, was in midfield spot most of the way and switched on the outside to sweep past the early runners to pip odds on favourite Nova Falcon at the shadows of the Winning Post. Judging from the run, Director should develop into a potential miller and bears watching beyond 1200m.
Charles Leck trained Back To The Towers should develop into a potential stayer after a nail-biting victory in Race 8. The five-year-old by Artie Schiller with Jockey S Anandan astride was in close touch with the early leaders and railed on strongly in the run home to beat fast finishing D’Great Effort at the post.
Jockey S Mutaza and Apprentice WW Cheah took the racing honours at Selangor Turf Club last Saturday. S Mutaza who was on the sideline for a lengthy period, made a comeback to the race riding ranks, the previous week with a second on Dynamic Eagle. Having a full card of nine rides this last weekend, the 35-year-old rider made no mistakes this time around to showed his uncanny riding skills riding by a double with Aud Dollar in Race 6 and Roc That in Race 9
The limelight of the day was Apprentice WW Cheah who has been finishing on board from many rides tasted his first career win in Race 3 riding Richard Lines trained Perfect Run. The 18-year-old Apprentice, attached to trainer Richard Lines would have rode his first win in the opening event with Golden Dragon, however, was beaten at the post by Frank Maynard’s Snow Dancer (Jackson Low).
