Volcanic General does it again.
Last year’s Tunku Gold Cup winner Volcanic General was successful in defending the title in the Stewards’ Room in Race 9 at Selangor Turf Club last Sunday.
The six-year-old grey by Magnus was quick off the mark at the start of the race and after a tough duel in the straight with Mr Nevermind, eventually finished second to that rival.
However jockey S Ruzaini (Volcanic General) raised an objection against jockey SU Lim (Mr Nevermind ) for interference approaching 100m from home and the Stewards awarded the race in favour of Ruzaini.
Jockey SU Lim was duly suspended for two race days for careless riding.
Volcanic General is seen with the chance to win the second leg of the ever popular Triple Crown Series – The Selangor Gold Cup over 1600m in May.
Ipoh based trainer KF Wong’s Relau Star showed his prowess to win the Sungei Besi Autoworld Cup in Race 6 under young Australian jockey Jordan Mallyon.
The three-year-old by Captain Sonador was in touch with the early leaders and made a determined bid in the final stretch to win with plenty in hand.
Relau Star looks very promising sprinter and should be racing in better company soon.
Lim’s Casino and Russell The Crowe who finished second and third respectively should soon get another chance to greet the judges.
