Valerie Pegasus is in top shape
Mar 13, 2025
Trainer Selvan has got last-start victor tight and taut for another strike at Sungai Besi
That last win on March1 was something to savour. If anything, it was a powerful statement of intent.

Sure, it was his fifth time in the winner’s enclosure. But, one could say, Valerie Pegasus has more where those came from.
The Shamexpress five-year-old gets into the action in Race 5, a Class 4B (1,100m) in Kuala Lumpur on March 16 and, right now, it appears he is ready for anything that his rivals can throw at him.
On a quiet morning at Sungai Besi with hardly any blistering gallops, Valerie Pegasus came out for a good stretch, reeling off the last 600m in a modest 40.2sec.
On the strength of that easy gallop, his trainer Nick Selvan would be confident Valerie Pegasus can put together arace-to-race double.
At that last win in a Class 5A race over 1,150m, Valerie Pegasus was never in doubt once Aify Yahaya drove him to the front.
Valerie Pegasus would eventually beat the fast-finishing Thunderstorm by1¼ lengths. It was a polished performance and a promotion to Class 4 should not be cause for worry.
Flashback to Nov 19, 2023. Valerie Pegasus walloped a Class 5 field over 1,200m. Rested a month and promoted to Class 4, he made it a race-to-race double on Christmas Eve of 2023. He did it once. He can do it again.
Selvan could also be looking for a good showing from Trigger Pegasus. However, as of now, he is the second reserve in that very-competitive Supreme (B) 1,200m contest which is Race 8 on the day.
In preparation for what he hopeswould be a spot in the starting line-up, Selvan sent Trigger Pegasus for some serious work and the Deep Field six-year-old pulled it off, running the 600m in 38.9sec. It was one of the fastest of the morning on March 12.

Formerly with Donna Logan at Kranji where he scored five of his six career victories as Trident, Trigger Pegasushas been finding it difficult gettinga seventh win after that sixth on Aug 25, 2024.
But keep him on your radar. He is slowly but surely getting there and that elusive next win could come soonerrather than later.
Then there was Dancing Tycoon. He too was sent out by Selvan for a spot of work and he would have hardly raised a sweat when running the 600m in 40.2sec.
He will see action in the fourth event on March 16 and he could start off as one of the fancied runners in that 1,100m sprint for Class 4B runners.

Since coming over as a two-time winner from Selvan’s former boss Stephen Gray’s Kranji stable in mid-2024, Dancing Tycoon has won three races, with the last one on Feb 9 when he beat The Wonderbolt by a neck.
The Written Tycoon seven-year-old is in good order and that hit-out on March 12 would have knocked out all the rough edges from that last-start third behind Super Posh.
Another one who is nearingthe top of his game is Tangesh.
From Charles Leck’s yard, he was sent out for a spot of cantering and he came through that exercise in good shape.

A handsome-looking chestnut, Tangesh has been winless since June 23, 2024.
That day, when taking on a Class 4A field over the 1,400m, he came home from a spot off the lead to overhaul the front runner, Graphjet Express in the closing stages to win by three parts of a length.
He had Ruzaini Supien in the saddle while Graphjet Express had the services of Bernardo Pinheiro.
Tangesh has been off the boil recently but he did win a trial on Feb 18 in 1min1.96sec.
Going on that hit-out, coupled with that bit ofwork on the morning of March 12, Tangeshshould be ready to toss in a good showing in Race 3 on March 16.
