TOM’S LIGHTNING has struck again to make it three wins from three starts in Malaysia.

The Shamexpress gelding landed in the country with a modest record of two wins and two placings in 12 runs at three and four in New Zealand but has caught the imagination of racegoers with every outing.

He was backed down to RM6 odds-on when making his debut in a Class 4A sprint over 1020m on the Sungai Besi No. 2 track last July 13. He led all the way.

Promoted a class, the five-year-old was again the odds-on choice in the Safar247 Apac Stakes (Class 3 – 1100m) three weeks ago and he again showed his rivals a clean pair of heels.

TOM’S LIGHTNING was backed as if he could not lose in the Langkawi Sky Bridge Stakes (Class 3 – 1200m) at Sungai Besi here today and he did not disappoint.

TOM’S LIGHTNING quickly took command on settling down and jockey Harmeet Singh Gill had him on a tight hold till well into the straight. With just a couple of cracks of the whip, the gelding kept up a bright gallop to win by one and three quarters lengths.

TITAN PEGASUS and DABBLE chased him all the way to finish second and third respectively.

“Good win today considering he is carrying 59kg,” said trainer Charles Leck.

“I plan to give him a big test in open company next start. He will have to keep improving, and hopefully winning a few more (races).”

“He keeps improving and is a up-and-coming horse for the feature races,” said Gill. “It’s easy for him down in Class 3 at the moment. We will see how how goes in the upper classes.”
