The Selangor Turf Club hosted an exciting day of racing on Sunday, 9th March, featuring 11 action-packed races. There were multiple doubles and even a treble amongst the trainer and jockey ranks throughout the day. Among the standouts were jockeys WW Cheah and Al Da Silva, each securing two winners, while trainer J Ong made a significant mark with a treble.
Among the notable jockey performances, WW Cheah secured a double, with well-executed rides aboard Release The Spirit, who showed an impressive turn of foot from the R Lines yard, and Single Warrior in the next race. Similarly, Al Da Silva struck early with his two wins on the day in consecutive races aboard Outfit in race 2 and Dragon Cavallo in race 3 in a close finish with no more than a neck between first and third.
Trainer N Selvan enjoyed a fantastic day, bagging two wins with Single Warrior and Big Max in the lucky last on his local debut fighting off the late challengers. Meanwhile, J Ong stole the show with a brilliant treble which included all of Outfit in race 2; Cheval Pegasus in race 6 and Pacific Warrior in race 7.
The day’s action also brought some landmark moments, with Handsome Joyful setting a new track record over 1020m on track 2. In the first race, the impressive Handsome Joyful, ridden by XC Liang for trainer CW Choi, stormed to victory with a new record time of 58.27 seconds.

Meanwhile, C Henrique marked his first win of the season in Malaysia aboard Hurricane, trained by S Dunderdale. With front running tactics, Hurricane led the field from the outset but did switch positions with Italian Revolution continuously around the turn. Turning for home he found a kick at the top of the straight and wasn’t for the catching when winning by over 4 lengths. S John also celebrated his first win for the season aboard Eternal Romance from the R Lim stable who won by a similar margin in race 9.
The day at Selangor Turf Club offered plenty of excitement as the countdown to the first G1 for the year at the Selangor Turf Club is just under a week away until the Equine Sanctuary Tunku Gold Cup which should attract the best sprinters in the country for a stake of RM300,000. Make sure to be at the races this Sunday the 16th of March to witness all the action.
