It was a match-up of stablemates who have both won four races since crossing the causeway to join trainer Lawson Moy in the 4Racing South Africa Stakes at Sungai Besi here today.

After winning half of his eight starts in the country thus far, Jerlyn Seow’s mount LIM’S BETTERREADY started favourite in the Class 4 – 1100m sprint.

But LIM’S UNIQUE also came into the race in superb form after two wins and a second in three runs in the new season and was partnered by apprentice Fikri Ismail.

TERMS OF REFERENCE led on settling down. He was briefly headed by ARION SUCCESS midway through the race but regained the advantage making the turn into the straight.

ARION SUCCESS, OLYMPIA, LIM’S UNQUE and LIM’S BETTERREADY were almost in a line behind ARION SUCCESS.

LIM’S UNIQUE collared the leader on his outside at the 200m while LIM’S BETTERREADY took a run on their inside.

LIM’S UNIQUE shot to the front soon after and held off the challenge of LIM’S BETTERREADY in the run to the finish to win by three quarters of a length.

“My horse was well drawn (barrier 1) and my instructions were to settle well up with the pace,” said Fikri. “He gave me plenty in the run home.”

“LIM’S UNIQUE appreciated the yielding track better and he was better off at the weight with a 3kg claim,” said Moy.

“Both riders did their best riding to instructions.

“LIM’S UNIQUE beats expectations and keeps finding more in his races.”

LIM’S UNIQUE won three times in 34 runs in Singapore and has been ridden exclusively by Fikri in 21 starts in Malaysia.
